One part "The Devil Wears Prada," two parts "Men in Black," a sprinkle of Hallmark holiday movie sweetness, and a whole lot of heat.
Meet Olivia, a savvy personal shopper with a knack for avoiding commitment and a dreaded annual party to dodge. Her mother’s swanky New Year’s Eve bash is as unavoidable as her parents’ questions about her personal life.
Enter Ruune, a charming alien prince with a reputation for loving and leaving across the galaxy. His arrival in New York could cause issues for the Valorian’s new treaty with Earth, especially if he starts breaking hearts.
Their solution? A fake relationship to shock Olivia's judgmental mother and keep Ruune out of intergalactic trouble. But as they navigate carriage rides, dirty charades, and the glittering world of New York's elite, will their pretend romance turn into something real?
Can Olivia let down her guard and trust an alien with her heart? Will Ruune finally find a reason to stop running? And what happens when their charade is over?
With meddling drag queens, designer dog wardrobes, and plenty of rom-com holiday fun, New Year's with an Alien is a heartwarming alien romance that proves love truly is universal. Book 2 in the Holidays with an Alien sci-fi from com series!
I love sexy aliens and independent heroines. I grew up on Star Trek: Next Generation and Star Wars (and I adore them equally). My favorite superhero is Thor (with Aquaman a close second because, well, Jason Momoa), my favorite dessert is key lime pie (okay, fine, all pie), and I still lament the loss of Firefly.
I live in North Carolina in the US and have one husband, two teenagers, and two neurotic cats. I sometimes wish I could teleport to a holographic space station like the one in my tribute brides series (or maybe vacation at the oasis with the sand planet barbarians). :-) When I'm not writing, I love to paddleboard, dive, travel, and read obsessively!
When Ruune and Liv agree to fake date each other, it sets the stage for the coziest and sweetest romance! Between cozy surprises and smoldering looks, I loved the deep connection that developed between them. Add in a dash of hot spice, some rule breaking kisses and a pinch longing for each other and it makes for one New Years Eve Romance that you won't want to miss! While I loved the connection between Ruune and Liv, I also loved that Caroline and Griff were in this book too! Liv and Caroline's drag queen friends were also such a hoot! Between their games and their names, I loved how much fun Carl and his friends brought to this book.Overall, this was such a fun, quick read! I can't wait for the next book!
I want to thank Tana Stone for the opportunity to read this ARC. My thoughts and opinions are my own in this review.
This was my final read for 2025 and what a way to end the year! 🎉🥳. It was sweet, funny, spicy and short enough to devour in a day. I’ll most definitely be reading more by this author
💙 “You are the most amazing female I've ever encountered in all my travels across the galaxy.” ~~~ Olivia is awesome! She’s a confident, fun and sassy woman and a wonderful friend. Even more, Olivia is kind, compassionate, supportive and quite the savvy personal shopper. And she’s a woman who doesn’t intend to settle down and just wants to have fun. Olivia is a wonderful woman and I loved her so, so much!
Ruune is a member of the Valorian royal family. He’s confident, flirtatious and quite the charmer. He’s not a male who’s on the lookout for a mate and all he wants is to sample the females of the universe. Yup, Ruune is quite the player. But this Valorian playboy is also considerate, understanding and sweet. Mr. Tall, Blue and Gorgeous in a spectacular male and I adored everything about him!
I absolutely loved everything that happened between Olivia and Ruune! Ruune travels to Earth to spend time with his cousin where he meets his mate’s best friend - Olivia. Neither of the two wants a relationship but Olivia needs a plus one for her nagging mother’s New Year’s party. And the solution is simple - they agree to fake-date with no strings attached. But soon, things got more real than either of them expected. I adored Olivia and Ruune together! Their chemistry was fantastic right from the start and they fit so well together. And their banters and teasing were so fun! Even more, the more they got to know each other, the more they discovered how similar they were. And I loved how supportive and understanding they were with each other. Furthermore, those two were definitely not rule followers and amongst cozy activities, stolen kisses, sweet longing and a dash of smoking-hot passion, their connection deepened more and more. Olivia and Ruune were truly wonderful and perfect for each other and I couldn’t get enough of either of them!
Overall, the story is another fun, cozy, festive and naughty addition to the series.
Olivia is a smart, savvy, sexy, flirtatious, personal shopper who has no interest in settling down and just wants to date men and have fun. She also has parent problems. Olivia is Caroline's best friend and caroline fell in love with prince Griff from valoria. Along comes Prince Ruune Griff's cousin to visit him on earth and sample many of the delightful females around since he has no interest in settling down and just wants to play and enjoy variety. Olivia needs a fake boyfriend in order to deal with the problem parents so Ruune offers to help her out by being her fake boyfriend, however as time passes he starts to see that feisty, sweet, fun loving Olivia has more depth to her than previously thought and he's starting to really enjoy being in her company and spending time with her. Olivia also starts to see a different side of Ruune not just the player and develops feelings for him but both think the other still wants a fake relationship. New Years Eve after attending her parents party their attraction boils over. The Next day Ruune and Griff are called back to Valoria so Ruune Griff and Caroline head back to their home leaving Olivia behind still thinking each other doesn't want commitment. I loved seeing former characters in this book esp the Drag Queens who definitely give the book that boost of fun, quirkiness and pizzazz. Excellent plot development with richly detailed characters. The author had an excellent grasp of all the emotions this scenario between main characters would go thru and kept it quite realistic and believable. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it. I received an arc copy and this is my honest voluntary review.
Grif’s favorite galaxy charmer cousin comes to visit him on earth, when he sees Caroline’s bestie Olivia. They agree to fake dating to get their families off their backs, I’m sure all their heat had nothing to do with it, winks. Olivia wants some ground rules for their fake dating. So, Ruune comes to discuss their fake dating ground rules with a horse and carriage ride. Gotta love fake dating…am I right? And those rules Olivia wanted…rules really are made to be broken. I definitely want to hang out with the queens on game night…I mean twister and dirty charades…with hunky alien guys….I am totally in. Let me check my calendar, oh look at that, I’m free tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day…totally open, so like I said…I am totally in.
What happens when a couple of rule breakers get together? Yeah, a whole lotta heat…because they are breaking all the fake dating rules…and I was totally there for it. Such a cute, funny, and charming read with lots of heat. We get to see Griff and Caroline again. And when Griff gave him advice and brought up this little scene from his book, "And females do not appreciate being carried around on the ice like a sack of grain.”, I laughed so hard…still so funny…and great advice too. HEA, which leads into the next book that I can’t wait to read. I adore this series.
New Year’s with an Alien by Tana Stone is a fun, light-hearted sci-fi romance that leans fully into charm, chemistry, and low-stress escapism.
This story follows on from Christmas with an Alien and centres on Ruune, Griff’s royal cousin, who can’t quite believe the furore over Griff mating with a human. Curious (and rather sceptical), he travels to Earth to see what all the fuss is about, only to promptly fall straight into it himself. Our FMC, Olivia, Caroline’s best friend: is confident, warm, and completely irresistible to the self-proclaimed Valorian bachelor who never intended to fall for an anyone, let alone a human.
What begins as a fake relationship, designed to help Olivia navigate her overbearing socialite mother and prevent Ruune from causing an interplanetary diplomatic incident, quickly turns into something far more real. Watching Ruune unravel as he’s steadily charmed by Olivia is a real delight.
My View: This is a sweet, fluffy read with plenty of banter, heart, and that signature Tana Stone warmth. It’s loosely connected to the Tribute Brides of the Drexian Warriors universe and works perfectly well as a standalone. That said, reading Christmas with an Alien first does help set the scene and adds extra enjoyment through familiar faces and recurring characters. Overall, New Year’s with an Alien is a cosy, feel-good romance with just enough sci-fi flair, perfect if you’re in the mood for something fun, romantic, and effortlessly enjoyable.
New Year’s with an Alien book two finds Ruune the cousin of Griff from the first book, on Earth for a visit and to hook up with human females until his cousin warns him about starting any galactic incidents between Earth and their planet Valoria by doing so. After meeting Caroline soon to be the new Valorian queen and his brother’s mate, Ruune is introduced to her bestie Olivia who just happens to need a date to her mother’s New Years Eve gathering to avoid any match making attempts, and since Ruune needs to stay out of liaison trouble with Earth girls, they strike up a fake dating deal, and the rest is going to be history. For two people dead set against any long term commitment relationships Cupid is going to be working overtime in this humorous, sweet, wonderfully engaging story. I loved the writing and well crafted characters who provided a healthy dose of alien/human feel good romance, friendships, family, and entertainment. Oh boy and am I looking forward to a future story featuring Pippa and Dex!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
New Year’s with an Alien was such a fun way to end the year. This is only my second alien romance, and I’m officially hooked. I absolutely love when alien MMCs don’t fully understand human customs or phrases, and Ruune was endlessly charming in that way. His confusion mixed with confidence was genuinely adorable.
It was adorable watching Olivia and Ruune completely fail at keeping their "fake relationship" fake. Their chemistry was easy and playful, and the dual POV made it really enjoyable to see both of them catching feelings while convinced the other didn’t want anything serious. That misunderstanding added just the right amount of tension without getting too frustrating.
The New York setting and holiday atmosphere gave strong rom-com energy. The drag queen found family was a standout for me. They added humor, warmth, and heart.
There’s a small bit of open-door spice that fits the vibes without taking over the story. Overall, this was cute, spicy, and genuinely entertaining, and I’m very excited to continue this series.
This story contains two of my favorites things - a smexy blue alien and a fake relationship - and the execution was perfect. It had the perfect balance of humor, heartwarming love, real life issues, world building, missteps, deep emotions, and spice. Reading this story made my romantic heart swoony happy. Olivia is a human woman who works as a personal shopper. She has no desire to settle down and is happy bucking her parent’s expectations of catching a wealthy husband to take care of her. Ruune is a blue skinned alien charmer. He is from the planet Valoria and of royal blood. Valorians have recently allied with the Drexians and earth. Griff, his favorite cousin, is newly engaged to a human. Ruune comes to earth to sample the earth females and visit Griff and his fiancée, Caroline. Olivia is Caroline’s best friend. There is instant attraction and chemistry when Olivia and Ruune meet but neither one is interested in pursuing it. They do agree to a fake relationship to avoid Ruune causing issues for his cousin and to appease Olivia’s mother. Of course, the line between fake and real gets blurry almost immediately. To get to their HEA they’ll have to be honest with themselves and each other, unpack some baggage and take a leap of faith. Like all books by this author, this well written story was hard to put down and included engaging dialogue, three dimensional characters, good world building, and a captivating storyline. If you have not read Griff and Caroline’s story in Christmas with an Alien, do yourself a favor and read that one next. 4.5 stars.
I just love it when a story comes together. The excitement and suspense, the intrigue and romance. This story has it all. You'll be hooked from start to finish. Page after page your are drawn in to a new hypnotic life
Ruune and Liv may come from different worlds but their lives could not be more parallel. What starts out a ruse turns into so much more. The deeper the deception the deeper the denial.
This series is becoming one of my favorites and even though this is the second book. I think I like it more than the first one.
The drag queens are undeniably an asset to this story. Granted we didn't have a big blue alien dressing up as one in this story, but they have an unusual banter amongst them that is quirky non the less.
A beautiful romantic love story set at the most wonderful time of year.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story about Olivia, and Ruune who is a member of the Valorian royal family. We got to know Caroline, who is Olivia‘s best friend, in the first story and how she met Prince Griff who is the next in line for the throne, Ruune is his cousin, but still a prince. When Ruune meets Olivia, he is attracted to her, Olivia has an overbearing mother who always insist that Olivia marry somebody who is rich so she doesn’t have to work and when these two come up with a story where they are fake girlfriend and boyfriend they didn’t realise that they’re feelings would quickly turn and it would become a reality. There is a happy ending, but there’s an awful lot in between and at the end is the introduction to the next story.
I was given an advanced copy of this book to read and I am reviewing with my honest and fair opinion.
I read book 1 in this series, so when this installment hit, I grabbed it. It was perfect timing since it's the Christmas holiday season, and I spy New Year's around the corner. For me, it brought some fun and laughter to my holiday reading.
I loved Griff and Caroline from book 1, which is where we were introduced to Olivia. Getting to know her better was wonderful. Being about to meet Ruune and share in their whirl wind romance (real or fake) was a treat. After all, the charming characters really made the story so moving.
What I valued was the friendships and mutual respect amongst everyone. Despite different species, values, cultures, etc., there was acceptance. A person was just a person. Love was just love.
I recommend this book (and series). It appears to be set up for a possible third, maybe? If so, I'm all in!
Fluffy, sweet,sci-fy rom-com. Nothing groundbreaking in this one just a short and sweet love story about a rebel rich girl from an upper east side family and a big blue prince from another planet who has a giant vibrator in his pants. They do the fake dating thing to “keep him out of trouble” and shut her parents up but end up falling in love over the two week period of the story. We have a bit of miscommunication due to the fake dating deal and well, interplanetary culture barriers but in the end he can’t live with out her and comes back for her with a big public show of sincerity. 3.5⭐️ I liked it well enough good pallet cleaner but again nothing groundbreaking. 1🌶️ everything builds up to the one scene, then the book is over 2 chapters later. Short and sweet. Hallmark with aliens hunks.
Olivia, a human female, and Ruune, a Valorian prince, are both players and well-suited to act as a couple to keep Earth’s social media from running amuck with scandalous stories. Olivia’s best friend, Caroline, is engaged to Griff, the heir apparent to the Valorian throne (see Christmas With an Alien) Griff and Ruune are cousins.
Olivia and Ruune fall in love despite their best intentions but are forced apart when he and Griff are summoned to return home. He realizes that Olivia is the one for him and hurries back to Earth. It seems that his guard and Olivia’s new co-worker may become the next couple.
The drag queen troop add humor to this story, which overall isn’t much different than earlier ones.
Tana Stone’s New Year’s with an Alien takes us back to meet cutes between independent human women and the big blue male aliens they fall in love with. We’re back in NYC just after Christmas with Olivia helping clean up dinner with the motley crew of hilarious drag queens. She dreads her overbearing mother’s New Year’s Eve party. Then Ruune of the blue variety of hunky aliens shows up to visit his cousin the Prince and his soon to be wife, Olivia’s best friend. They decide that they will be fake boy/girl friends to fool her obnoxious mother. No relationship required. He’s there to meet and mate lots of human females. She needs someone to get her mom off her back. What could go wrong? They fall in love, of course!
Olivia is a serial first dater. She never gets serious and never wants to have a loveless marriage like her rich parents.
Ruune is a playboy who also never gets serious. He is curious about Earth as and their women, so he pops in to visit his cousin who has just found his mate in a human who just happens to be Olivia's best friend.
Olivia has to attend her mother's annual New Year's Eve Party and dreads it. She and Ruune make a deal to fake date and everything blows up from there.
I rooted for this couple all the way through the book. I liked the two related holiday books. I was hoping to see more of the Valorians and hope to see Pippa featured in a book.
Thankfully, none of the cover art reflected the awesome story that was in both the first and second books of this series. While, yes, there is definitely an element of Hallmark movies in these stories there is none of the over done sweetness of the movies. This is the story of two love phobic souls, Ruune and Olivia, and their discovery that love really can exist between two people who’ve been hurt and disappointed. I’m not going to give a re-cap of the story since I think most re-caps are terrible spoilers but will say that this was a relatively short and lighthearted good story that should be read in sequence. Like all of Tana Stone’s books it is highly entertaining, out loud chuckling funny and, in this case, a mildly sweet read.
What a great story. Ruune visits Earth not only to meet up with his cousin, Griff, but also to meet some human women! He meets one, Olivia who is more than his match and isn’t wanting any meaningful relationship, so they decide to embark on a fake romance. However, he soon realises that perhaps he needs to revisit his wandering ways as he begins to develop feelings for Olivia and it isn’t too long before she realises that perhaps there is something akin to real affection in their relationship. A super well written story that just flows so fantastically well. Loved it.
I received an ARC from Tana and I’m happy to provide a review.
This was an enjoyable cute alien romance story that's about Olivia who's a personal shopper and Caroline's bestie and Ruune who comes to earth to visit his cousin Griff and his fiancée while looking forward to dating human women. Griff warns him about starting any galactic incidents between Earth and their planet Valoria and Olivia's mother is pressuring her to marry. So, when Olivia's mothers New Years Eve party comes up and Olivia needs a date, they come up with a plan, fake dating. What occurs is a delightful entertaining story that I'd enjoyed reading. The characters were wonderful, and their chemistry sizzled in this copy I'd received and volunteer to read and review.
I looooved it! Ruune..Olivia...perfect! I'm suffering a book hangover. I loved everything about this book. The characters are so good, so real. The story is over the top good! I adored the Queens. I loved getting to visit with Caroline and Griff again. Ruune comes to Earth to visit his cousin Griff..and to have a little fun with earth women with no strings. Olivia doesn't want strings either but a little fun sounds good to her. Ruune agrees to help Olivia with a little problem and there the fun of watching them fall hard for each other begins. 5 stars or maybe supernova's!
New Year's with An Alien is the second book in the Holidays with an Alien. It's a continuation from the first book. However it can be read as a standalone since this features Ruune, Griff's visiting Valorian cousin and Olivia, best friend to Caroline. I absolutely loved the fast paced fake dating, smoldering tension and chemistry between two rule breakers. If you are a fan of rom-coms and sci-fi romances, this book is definitely for you. I couldn't put the book down. I can't wait to read the next book in the series. I highly recommend this book.
This was a fun, sweet romp. Both MCs constantly battling their attraction to the other while verbally reminding each other that it was all fake was very endearing; they both wanted more but were afraid of saying anything.
This book takes place pretty much immediately following the first. but it works well as a standalone filling in the gaps as needed. While this book didn't have quite as many odd turns of phrase as book 1, it still had plenty of fun play on words and other English foibles. All-in-all, this was a quick, fun read perfect for the holidays.
-Found Family -Fake Dating -Xmas Theme -Drag Queen Squad -Alien/Human
A fast-paced alien Christmas romance that was a fun fake dating trope. Ruune and Liv need to keep others out of their dating lives, so they agree to fake date each other. They're not looking for love, but once they start seeing each other, there's nothing fake about their feelings.
A cute, light and steamy read with funny moments.
I was given a free copy of this book and I'm voluntarily leaving an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Ruune come to Earth to visit his cousin Griff and his human mate Caroline and sample the delights of Earth women. His cousin soon puts him straight. He cannot cause a diplomatic incidents by seducing human women. Olivia, Caroline's best friend needs a date for New Year to keep her mother of her back. Problem solved and fake relationship between them. New problem how to keep in fake. This is a fun Christmas read. Loved the story.
4.5 // ARC // This was an absolutely darling alien romance! It essentially picks up where Christmas With An Alien (book 1) left off but with a new couple. You do not need to read book 1 to enjoy this one. This installment was precious in a different way from book 1. Where CWAA leaned on amusing antics to drive the story this one is more character driven with sweet moments of emotional intimacy between the mains who are both out to enjoy life minus romantic attachments. Or are they?
This is such a cute new year's eve story. Ruune is a Valorian playboy prince who has come visit his cousin on Earth. His cousin is engaged to an Earth woman named Caroline. Her best friend Olivia agrees to a pretend relationship with Ruune to prevent from doing something stupid. In return, Ruune agrees to be her boyfriend for her family's New Year's Eve party. Let's just say great things happen when rule breakers get together. Read this entertaining story.
I loved the party with the stuck up socialites. Olivia sure did make the uptight rich front feel uncomfortable. I also loved the queen twister, it made me laugh out loud. Oh and incorporating the Drexions was fun! Can't wait to read Pippa and Dex's story!
Olivia meets an alien prince named Runne and the sparks fly. They both have expectations forced on them by family so they agree that they will be in a fake relationship but that turns into more for them. Then Ruune has to go back to Valoria. Both know they fell in love but are afraid to say it to each other. This story has humor, adventure and steamy romance with a happy ending.
