DEVILS + HEARTBREAK

Rate this book
What if you had no memory of already falling for the stranger you just met?

When Owen Jameson meets the (very inebriated) woman of his dreams at a Melbourne art-show afterparty, he thinks he's found his Forever. But he wakes up the next day in her hotel room all alone with nothing but blurry memories and a pathetic, aching heart.

Six months later, fate brings them together once more when Owen discovers the enigmatic beauty is a rising star at MERAHPUTIH—the prestigious art gallery his grandmother co-founded in Jakarta, Indonesia.

As Srinaya Matthews immerses herself in curating a major exhibition, she can't ignore the magnetic pull she feels towards Owen, MERAHPUTIH’s legacy director and esteemed benefactor. Despite his claims that they've never met, there's something undeniably familiar about him, and Naya finds herself tempted to break all her professional rules for a chance at love.

But with whispers of her past threatening to tarnish her reputation, and the weight of Owen's titles looming over them, Naya must decide if she's willing to risk everything for a romance with the Golden God of MERAHPUTIH.

I read this in serialised form and never have I been so on the edge of my seat waiting for the next part. Aud Pitch is a wonderful writer, and the way they wove Naya and Owen’s story really drew me in. I felt like I knew the characters intimately, like they were close friends and that made me really invested in their stories. Such a pleasure to see a fat main character so well written, I felt so seen in this book.

The emotions I felt while reading this were really intense, and I was sad when I finished the story - I wanted to stay in this world a little longer and hope there will be more to come. If you want romance, drama and spice, this book has all three - I loved it so much I bought a print copy after reading the digital version.

I didn't want to put this book down. It's extremely well written; funny, sexy, smutty, interesting, light-hearted and serious at the same time. I find the sign of a good book is that I can become so engrossed that time passes without me realising; this is one of those books. I loved the insight into Meraputih and Indonesian culture. Owen and Naya are just *chefs kiss* characters. Written in a relatable way, with all the complex emotions humans can experience. It's got everything. Love, sex, art, emotion, villainy, culture. I heartily recommend Devils and Heartbreak.

This is a first novel for Aud Pitch, and I cannot tell!!

This steamy exploration of heartbreak and connection as part of the human condition is an enjoyable and captivating read.

Characters are the backbone of a good story and Aud builds rich, unique, and complex people, and their conversational writing style creates lovely momentum for the reader.

One of many bonus gem’s in this book for me was learning about a place, culture, and language I didn’t know before, with the majority of the book being set in Jakarta, Indonesia.

This work is worth your time!

"I don't really fit, and I don't know why I keep trying to make myself fit. I keep stopping myself from ruffling feathers, when it happens anyway. All I have to do is walk into a room and feathers are ruffled. If I'm going to ruffle feathers without meaning to, I should probably just enjoy myself.” -NAYA

I love this story. I never really enjoyed reading a third-person POV, but this was written wonderfully. I can’t wait to see more of Aud Pitch’s story and how they introduce and discuss Indonesian culture, art, and scenery. I know it’s going to be a wonderful read when I can immediately imagine myself watching the scenes in my head, like a movie. I usually give books five chapters to pique my interest, but this one was great from the first chapter to the last! It’s my first time reading a book with gender-neutral pronouns, and it turned out to be both informative and respectful. I love that despite her past experiences and being labeled with names, Naya’s integrity and morals stayed intact. She was bullied but able to stand up for herself—and by the way, I was shaking with joy and excitement in chapter 42! As someone who was bullied as a kid, it’s really satisfying to read about how Naya stood up for herself—something I wasn’t able to do. Thank you so much for this wonderful story!

DEVILS+HEARTBREAK is a masterful debut from a fresh voice that bursts with smutty talent. Aud Pitch weaves a story that transcends generic genre tropes, delivering a gripping literary romantic drama that also happens to be smutty. The characters are rich, beautifully developed, and grounded in a realism anyone can identify with, relate to, and jump up and down to root for.

DEVILS+HEARTBREAK is part workplace drama, taking the story into the inner workings of Indonesia’s oldest private art venue. For this particular Aaron Sorkin and West Wing fanboy, the workplace idealism smut was just as satisfying as the literal horny stuff. More importantly -- and again, back to that documentary comparison -- the story paints a compelling picture of a workplace I know nothing about. Aud Pitch’s writing drew me in with welcoming arms, holding my hand and never letting me get lost in dense descriptions or unnecessary detail.

There are twists, surprises, and plenty of sex, but it’s all rooted in real characters struggling through real conflict (as opposed to the fake, contrived, or poorly written kind). And the biggest twist of all: this book is SOOO well-written.

Aud Pitch, like me, is a lover of story telling and a huge inspiration. Not only have they infused magic into my life, but they fill their writing with it as well.

I had absolutely adored this book. Aud weaves so much of themselves throughout this romantic workplace drama set in Indonesia's oldest art venue. This book is seductive and full of surprises but also deeply genuine. Most of all, it is impossible to put down.

If you love your books spicy, relatable, and absolutely enchanting, this is the book for you.

I cannot speak Aud's praises more highly!

If you’re into well developed characters and budding relationships, you’d be interested in reading this book. The author narrates from both of the main characters perspectives. So getting to see how Naya and Owen’s relationship develops from the moment they meet was awesome.
As a plus size woman, I loved reading a book about a stereotypical hot man falling for a plus size woman. And he doesn’t just fall for Naya, he yearns for her.
This book was incredibly refreshing and sexy. I’m excited to read more from Aud Pitch.

What a saucy and fabulous read! I felt like I was transported to Indonesia when reading this and boy was it an amazing reflection of culture written in a modern and captivating way. The links between art, life and romance were fire. It was sexy, soulful and really hard to put down “wink wink” hahah! A perfect holiday read and one to help you get back into your body!
