Rate this book
In this powerful memoir, Pete Shuffle embarks on an honest journey through the deeply personal challenges of fatherhood, self-identity, and the shadows cast by shame. Growing up within the confines of faith and expectation, Peter faced struggles that many can relate to but few openly discuss—shame around identity, religion, infertility, and personal vices in porn, sugar, alcohol and social media.

Drawing on the millennial touchstones that shaped him—superheroes, Pokémon, and the early days of social media—Peter explores how pop culture and digital connections offered both escape and meaning, influencing his path to self-discovery. With unflinching honesty, he reflects on how societal, religious, and personal pressures shaped his journey, revealing the strength it took to redefine his beliefs and find healing.

Through stories that resonate with humor, vulnerability, and resilience, Peter shares the lessons learned along the way and the lasting impact of confronting shame and embracing self-acceptance. This memoir isn’t just a story of challenges overcome; it’s an exploration of how facing one’s fears, reckoning with identity, and embracing personal growth can bring profound transformation. Whether you're on a similar journey or simply seeking inspiration, this book offers a candid, insightful look at how the pursuit of self-love and honesty can change everything.

It’s a memoir like no other I’ve read so far. Lots of bits and pieces that piece together to tell a vulnerable story of overcoming addictions and heartbreak. I think the world would be a better place if it felt safe enough for all men to be vulnerable like this. It has it all-the good, the bad, the ugly, and the most beautiful.
