Puck Off: (Deutsch) (Nessie-Krieger 1)

Rate this book

This was a bit weird. The MFC doesn't meet any of the MCs in person until 115 pages in. Then there are huge chunks that's just her learning what ice hockey is. I know very little about ice hockey and yet I somehow know more than this twit does. She knows nothing. Like doesn't even know how points are scored. Yet in her internal monologue she makes several hockey related metaphors? Her father also owns an ice hockey team yet she has never once skated? Hard to believe he never took his daughter ice skating as a child in remote Inverness 🙄. I had a hard time getting into the story because of things like this. It just felt unrealistic.

We get paggggges of her learning hockey and then literally 1 day of her disassociating while shadowing her father in the actual owner role and they are like yep, you got this but better go brush up on more playbooks to understand that. As if that is going to help business deals?? Nope. Also I don’t think they ever actually sign anything for her new job and to give her ownership? She’s just suddenly the owner? Or partial? Also weird.

She gets to Inverness and knows her father has health problems yet she never has family time with her parents. As far as I can tell she has a good relationship with them. We only ever see her mother once at the pub on her birthday, where they share a sentimental moment implying that they are close. I don’t understand this lack of family ties in the books. If anything, moving home means getting closer to family again. Especially for a medical related move.

Also, love the name Lachlan, but this guy is a man child. Throwing fits when he doesn’t get his way. He disrespects what she’s says and pressures her a lot to get his way. When his best friend finally comes clean to him that he’s been in love with her since high school he is kinda a dick about it, then agrees he was in the wrong only to then be back to a competitive dick the next day. 🙄 get over yourself and put someone else first for one. He is even a jerk to his sister. (Scene spoiler) She knows he’s interested in the MFC so she calls him excited that she’s going to drinks with her and her bestie. She specifically asks him not to come because she needs girlfriends and is lonely. Asshole shows up anyways, with his best friend, and they steal her away from girls night to play darts and then Lachlan comes on very strong and has sex with her that she immediately feels guilty about and regrets because he pushed her professional boundaries. She feels so bad she leaves girls night early. Yep. Dick move.

I’m going to finish the duet and hopefully the next book improves.

IMHO- it was painful to read this book.

I know how many times she went to the loo, how many times she googled "what's ice hockey", but I know nothing about FMC or any of MMCs.
At the beginning of the book she was asked to step up as an owner of the hockey team, because her dad has health issues. How many times she thought about him, about calling and asking how is he? Zero.
When she decided to move asap, and why do I need to read how to check car oil and how to check tires? C'mon.

Ooh, and FMC with her always wet knickers.

Lechlan- oh my, what a jerk.

Pacing was all over the place, really bad. 256 word "fuck" was used in a 336 pages. Where is creativity?

Nope, not gonna continue.

Hockey 🏑
Reverse Harem 💕
Why choose? 🤷‍♀️

Emma’s taking over a hockey team and learning on the job. What they want to teach her is more than the game. Will she find love and can everyone learn to share?

I love hockey romances, throw in some RH and this is such fun.

Book one of two. Available on KU.

This was painful. If you’re into insta love, unrealistic, weak MCs, confusion this is it.

So when the book starts, she’s a social media manager loving her job in London, her dad out of nowhere ask her to take over as the owner and GM of the hockey team they own and yet she know NOTHING about hockey ? Why as an owner you would just throw your daughter into a challenge like that? Being her in and let her prove herself. Why not let her become the social media manager for the team and learn her way around.

And than all 3 players falling in love with her at first sight ?

Lachlan was a complete douchecanoe for going after the girl his bff was pining for since he was a kid.
Kier didn’t have a spine, soooo blend

The only reademing quality was Taran but even so, see a girl online, crushes on her and kisses her within minutes of seeing her ? Really ?

She’s insecure, she’s in over her head.. I don’t get it at all.

Easy enough to read but there was too much detail in places - everything was described in almost a list format. I didn't need to know every step of showering/getting ready or checking a car before going on a long drive.

There was way too much time spent in London before going to Inverness. The FMC doesn't meet any of the men for ages and yet they're all mad about her from looking at her Instagram alone.

They've all just about agreed that they're gonna try it as a foursome and then it ends 🤷‍♀️

Only got to read part one. I’m not buying the book to get part two, since the two parts now is one combined book apparently. Not worth it. I got whiplash from what I read, it was that fast paced with the FMC and her three hunks. I like the hockey trope, but reversed harem is still not my vibe.

I should’ve DNF’d this. The pacing was (sorry) abysmal; the main character didn’t even meet the love interests until 100+ pages in. The characters were one dimensional. The ending was terrible.

Edit: I also totally forgot about the weird way that the FMC described being fat; I got a sneaking suspicion that the author is straight-sized and was attempting to write a fat character. It felt so forced and awkward.

Ya know the saying !”blondes have more fun” well I’m a firm believer now that this loving and fun red head just might be having more fun than any blonde I know.
When a family emergency calls her home she is none the wiser of the men who have been keeping a close eye on her public platform, and no idea of what the future beholds for them.
In the beautiful world of Scotland, three hot hockey players completely devoted to her, and one spot fire red head… this book is determined to draw you in and hold you captive….
Book 2 is a must

With no knowledge about Hockey when Emma's (FMC) father retires she's left with a Hockey team to manage. As well as no idea how to do that? A new start and a new job but an old hometown brought on plenty of complications including hot hockey players. Each of which brought on plenty of steaminess. Phew is hot!! A knockout kick off to this duet with characters that I really liked. Bring on book 2 now.

I so needed this book. I absolutely adore Emma and her BFF Anna ( hint that she is absolutely amazing).
Anyway, Emma needs to take over her dad's hockey team, no biggie, right? Except she doesn't know anything about hockey and doesn't want to move back home.....oh, well, that's what three hot as hades hockey players are for, right? Does it really matter if one is on the biggest rival team? Guess we will find out?
This book was so much fun to read, I couldn’t put it down

A great instalove reverse harem book. The fact that the 3 men who want Emma have never shared before, that one of the men is from a rival team, so not friends with the other two, adds something different to the usual reverse harem book. It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the next book.

it's not good. dnf at 47%/page 149 on kindle. this was one of the many books i got for free, and i can't remember if it was recommended to me on kindle unlimited, or if i got it on the free book day that amazon did a month ago.

the pacing is horrible. for the plot, it makes sense that emma doesn't know much about hockey, but like, did we really need to play it up that way? it just makes the book drag on. she doesn't meet the "love" interests until like, 33% into the book, which is insane. like i'm not asking for anything to be rushed, but that is abysmally slow. the writing isn't terrible, i suppose, but the one smut scene i read just immediately exhausted me, because how did that even happen so fast lol. after that i'm just not interested in reading anything further.

i'm a huge hockey fan, and i get fiction is just fiction, but i really hate the concept of oh a woman gets placed into a position of power in unprecedented territory in a male dominated sphere of sports, and we're going to make her fuck the players she's in charge of managing? miss me with that. like ngl it's books like these with plots like these that make male hockey fans rag on female hockey fans, and women in hockey in general, so hard. i can't get through this book without thinking about the comments and treatment that the seattle kraken's new assistant coach, jessica campbell, has been receiving, especially now that the season is officially underway.

just yikes lol.

Honestly, I should have DNF'ed this book, but for some reason it held my attention like when you drive by a car crash and slow down, unable to look away. I don't even know where to start. This book was all over the place. Emma knows nothing about hockey, despite growing up with it?? That doesn't make sense to me, and suddenly she owns a hockey team. Also, she is painfully unaware of what hockey entails?? Like she doesn't know how to score a goal. I think that's pretty unrealistic since that's pretty common knowledge. Like I'm not a sports person (at all), and even I know that. I will admit it might be a culture difference maybe? I'm not sure. Besides that, two guys fall for her after seeing her instagram?? And that was it. Suddenly, they were falling in love with her after barely spending any time with her. Like she goes on one date with one of the guys. Also, I did not like the ending at all. I understand cliffhangers, but this felt very very abrupt. I flipped the page and was confused about how that could possibly the ending. Additionally, I can't speak with personal experience, but the fat rep in this book was giving weird vibes. I did like the friendship between Anna and Emma. Taran's texts and his banter with Emma was good too. That's about it. I mean the spicy scenes were good I guess, but they almost fell flat because there wasn't much connection between the MMCs and Emma.

I was interested in a why choose hockey book set in the UK with a plus sized FMC, but this book just didn’t hit the mark for me. I felt like the pacing was off for me, and I didn’t get enough character depth to really connect with them. The general premise was fun, but the story needed more detail, more probability or realism, and more personality from the FMC.

I love plus sized FMCs, and appreciate when they are comfortable with themselves. But I didn’t love the portrayal of the FMC explaining it as ‘I love food. I hate exercise. That works for me.’ That didn’t feel particularly genuine and felt off.

The insta love was a bit much for me, from the 2 guys. I loved the idea that the third guy had crushed on her in high school and she hadn’t noticed him. Glad she hadn’t, since he’s 4 years younger and that’s a LOT more problematic in high school ages. He was probably my favorite MMC. The others were just too passionate, solid, intense, and committed after like a day.

Before you read, you should know that this is part 1, not a full story. I didn’t realize that going in. So it ends on a cliffhanger with nothing resolved, and the next book isn’t out yet.

Overall, cute idea and some fun moments, but just wasn’t right for me.

Light Hockey RH

This review is for the duet…the second book was more of a novella as short as it was. While this was a cute concept, I just felt it was lacking substance, maybe it was more like it felt hard to believe. Having said that if you don’t look too deeply and you love those insta love books this might be perfect for you. I had. A hard time believing that her father owned a hockey team/was a former player and she lived there her whole life until as an adult she moved to London, yet she knows absolutely nothing about hockey and never skated. Heck I didn’t want to learn how to change oil or a tire on a car, but did it through osmosis from my dad. Then not one, but three just wish sweep in….now Kier I get, there was history at least for him, but after her history with men she just accepts it all pretty much at face value? I liked the side characters, her dad was odd to me and I couldn’t quite figure out his deal. The FMC was super enjoyable! The men supportive. I think I just wanted more depth, more substance, more story. The multiple POVs as always…amazeballs!

This book was just meh at best. (**SPOILERS**)

The FMC is Scottish and living in London. Her dad has health problems and has asked her to take over owning a pro hockey team back in Scotland.

She starts stalking/scouting the players on insta and follows them. They follow her back.

She gets there, and freaking has s3x with one of the guys at a welcome to town happy hour with the guys sister she met organically earlier in the day. (weird and way too instalust/love).

His roommate then says he's been in love with her since they went to school together. So there's tension there.

Then a guy from a rival team asks her out and they go out on a date and hook up two days after she had bar s3x with the other guy.

Mind you...she's coming in to be the owner of the hockey team, but yet she's just slutting her way through town. It didn't make sense. Then the book ends on a massive cliffhanger, cause I guess it leads right to the next book. Def won't be finishing the series.

When her father retires, Emma finds herself taking ownership of his professional hockey team. Moving from London to her home town, she grabs her bestie and sets off!

Lachlan and Keir are players on the team with the hots for their new owner. While Keir may have known and fancied her since their schoolyard days, why should Emma have to choose? 😜

Enter Taran, superstar of the rival team and we’ve got a real “why choose” on our hands!

It’s been a while since I’ve read a “fish out of water” 🎣 trope and this one had potential. The relationships move at warp speed and this book was all about the 🌶️. Sadly, it felt a bit all over the place and while I was ready to look past some issues the book came to an abrupt end with no resolution.

Some OMG moments:
-rendezvous at the lamb 🐑🔥
-Taran’s texts! 🍆
-The birthday party interlude 🎂

Funny and Romantic!

Absolutely loved this why choose, a perfect mix of romance and comedy that had me dying and needing the next page!

Emma is such an adorable woman that has quite the sense of humor and I love her and Anna's friendship. She started off having a man that does not treat her like the queen she is. I love how some hockey players slide into her DM's and the conversations make me giggle like a school girl.

I cannot wait for book two and this book is a must read that will have your sides in stitches!

Hockey and why choose? Sign me up.

This was a lovely, refreshing little read. My only real complaint is that I have to wait for the next one, lol.

I love it, though.
The story is cute. Usually, when I see a girl inheriting a hockey empire/team, they know a lot about hockey and are fans to some degree. It was kind of refreshing that Emma wasn't in the know about hockey.
I also enjoyed the men. How Taran came in was a bit weird to me at first, but it ended up working out. Lacklan, Kieran, and Taran are all three dream boats.

This made me mad bc why did it take so long for them to get together??? There was like no plot other than her trying to figure out her feelings for everyone and once they finally got together that was it. Nothing happened after that. I also felt a little bad for Keir tbh, he was such a sweetheart. I’m only going to read the 2nd book bc I need closure tbh 😭

Could it have been written better? Yep does it have a few plot holes … also yep

BUT THE INTRIGUE HAS ME HOOKED
The story its self, the characters, the spice, the cliff hanger all magnificent. If you take this book for what it is cute fun entertainment you’ll love it!

If you looking for something more descriptive I’d suggest romantasy ☺️

Instalove reverse harem

A fun book revolving around an FMC who knows nothing about ice hockey falling for three ice hockey players. Throw in the fact that one of the players is for a rival team adds a different spin on the traditional reverse harem book.
