FLIRTING WITH DANGER is Book #3 in Anna Blakely's bestselling Eagle's Nest Securities Series.
This story follows Jason "Lucky" Lucas as he navigates his way through uncharted territory...love. At the heart of his life-altering realization is a woman he doesn't even like. She's cold and stubborn, and they don't have a single thing in common. She's also the most beautiful, most intriguing woman Lucky has ever known.
When the same woman comes to him, of all people, for help...there's only one possible answer he can give. Because like it or not--like her or not--Lucky is a protector at his core. But when this oil-and-water duo is forced into close proximity to keep her safe, their attraction to one another becomes too strong to ignore. And the longer Lucky is around the auburn beauty, the more he realizes she isn't the bane of his existence after all. Instead, she's become his future. But if Lucky and his fellow former SEALs can't stop the people who want her dead, the future he's only just begun to find will be lost to him forever.
And as the story behind his team's sudden disbandment years earlier continues to unfold in the background, he and his men fall deeper into a pit filled with more questions and lies.
Author of the exciting R.I.S.C. Series, Anna Blakely brings you stories of love, action, and edge of your seat suspense. As an avid reader herself, Anna writes what she loves...strong, Alpha heroes and the intelligent, independent heroines they love.
Anna's dream is to create stories her readers will enjoy, and characters they'll fall in love with as much as she has. She believes in true love and Happily Ever After, which is what she will bring to you.
Anna lives in rural Missouri with her husband and children, as well as several rescued animals. When she's not writing, Anna enjoys reading, watching action and horror movies (the scarier the better), and spending time with her amazing family.
Book starts with a scene that I thought was written as a joke. Unfortunately, it’s not. It paints an arrogant, theatrical lawyer gaslighting a jury into thinking they are either stupid or immature if they don’t see the case her way, instead of just on the strength of her case and the evidence that made it an easy one for her to win…no skill required there. But she practically breaks her own arm patting herself on the back throughout her embarrassing performance. It was so cringey and coyly saccharine: this is a murder trial for a serial killer, where bereaved family members are in the courtroom…not a chance to showboat with “perfectly timed” jokes and pauses and transparent condescension. The jokes were SO weak and she seemed more focused on her stage performance than the strength of her case…it was classless and unprofessional. And this sets the stage (pun intended) for our FMC. TBH, she doesn’t get appreciably better during the book.
We have the obligatory TSTL award for our FMC badly in need of protection, but who insists she can take care of herself. And the repeated temper tantrums, when she’s just being helped by people who know so much more than she does. She’s embarrassingly juvenile.
Beyond that there’s next to zero character development for ether lead…they were paper thin characters. The book is only the utterly implausible story (even for a modern romance novel) and a bunch of dialogue and rote attempts to build sexual tension…no background on how either came to be that’s deeper than a sentence or two…just overt sanctimony for the FMC and trying too hard and blatantly to paint an otherwise vapid, whiny, pseudo-humble character as some female justice warrior.
Then there’s the MMC taking the FMC out to a club alone (to “soothe” her immature temper tantrum) while there are people trying to kill her. Brilliant.
I’ll stop there, but my last comment is that the author needs to hire even a basic proofreader. This is the third book in the series and there are so many easy-to-catch errors in every one.
Not original, kinda repetitive... like the author had to meet a word count or ran out of anything of value to add. Never felt any connection between the H and h. Was not worth the time and about bagged it at the 60% but figured I was already that far along so might as well finish.
1.5* I forced myself to finish it. Plots didn’t make sense and I hated the mfc.
Well I did manage to finally finish it. I was going to Dnf at 50% but I thought it would get better, it really didn’t. It’s worse than the second book, with massive plot holes and things that really didn’t make sense. One of the big issues for me was the fact that I hated Ellie. In Cassie’s book we learn of her friend Ellie who represented her, but we never met her. Straight away I knew I wasn’t going to like her. At the beginning of the book Ellie is prosecuting a serial killer and giving her closing arguments to the jury. The way that she arrogantly makes jokes to the jury about the dead women was repulsive. The author tells us about FIVE TIMES about the killer and how he tortured the women. ENOUGH ALREADY! JUST STOP IT! 😡😡😡
When Ellie is in danger Lucky volunteers to stay with her. Ellie likes Lucky but for whatever stupid reason, she pretends she hates him. WHY? Lucky really likes Ellie but everyone including Ellie thinks he’s a player, and he lets them. WHY? Even his team mates think that and I really didn’t like Archer making Lucky promise him that he wouldn’t make a move on Ellie. Of course he does and soon they’re happily having constant s*x. Ellie is still denying her feelings and she constantly lies to her ‘best friend’ Cassie about Lucky. Why are there so many lies being told??? When Cassie is terrified she won’t let the team see, and pretends she’s okay. When she’s injured every time someone asks her if she’s feeling okay she lies and says she’s fine. Cassie is constantly lying about everything and it’s beyond annoying and weird!
There are also a crazy amount of things that aren’t answered. Why was Cassie shot at, at the beginning of the book? There are a few other things that really didn’t make any sense.
Flirting with Danger is the third installment in the Eagle's Nest Securities series and follows Playing with Fire. Jason aka Lucky Lucas has had his eye on his teammates fiancee's best friend from the moment that he met her. The problem is that lawyer Ellie Fischer sees Lucky as a flirt and a player but not much more. She's serious about her career and Lucky doesn't fit in her plans, or at least that's what she keeps telling herself. When a criminal that Ellie prosecuted escapes from prison and Ellie's life is threatened, Eagle's Nest steps in to offer protection and assist her in tracking down the man. Lucky plans to be at her side until things are safe and then maybe she can learn who he really is, not who he pretends to be. This was a fun, quick story. Low angst, some action, a bit of humor and heat. Flirting with Danger was told from dual POV and stands alone however I do recommend reading the previous two books in the series so that you can get to know the other supporting characters.
Lucky finds the playboy persona he has cultivated bites him on the ass when Ellie is in danger. She is the only woman who has ever stirred his soul and he has no idea what to do with that. He is frustrated that none of the guys can see past his fake image to see that Ellie is different, and whilst I can see his frustration, I am also unsure what he thought he was going to gain from cultivating that image in the beginning! But he proves himself to Ellie again and again, showing her the "true" Lucky as he sweeps her off her feet and steals her heart. I like Ellie, she was amazing in Cassie's book and doesn't fail to impress here, but I am also surprised she doesn't realise who the perpetrator is ....even when faced with him! I guessed pretty quickly who it was, there was instantly something about him that made my skin crawl. I loved seeing Lucky's redemption and look forward to Chase's book next, but it is Van's book that I am looking forward to most. I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
Flirting With Danger is one heck 9f a romantic suspense with heavy emphasis on the suspense. There's a serial killer, murder, arson, kidnapping and a crazed stalker. But that's not to say the romance is minimized. It's white hot and spicy. Ellie Fisher and Jason "Lucky" Lucas have spent so much time trying to convince themselves that there's no attraction between the two of them, it's laughable. However, when it becomes necessary for Ellie to have protection Lucky jumps at the chance refusing to take no for an answer. The more time they spend together, the more their walls crumble and they begin something extraordinary. There's still the matter of keeping her safe and just when they let down their guard just a little what they been trying to prevent occurs. Lucky moves heaven and earth to get her home and back in his arms.
Ellie and Jason/Lucky. Ellie was introduced in the last book as Cassie attorney, and now is back as a best friend and maid of honor, who also needs protection as the serial killer she put in jail has escaped…but is the danger actually from him? Lucky has had feelings for Ellie from the get go, but Ellie turned him down as she did not act on things like emotions based off of her background fears. Well as time passed and more danger presented itself and she got to know the real Lucky, not the playboy persona…things and emotions changed. Asher was in a wrong a lot, but from a good place and Donovan might have had the best line and moment regarding appearances. The danger was not a full surprise, but the details were. A fun couple and a good read. Can’t wait for Vans book!
Another fabulously emotional and gripping read from Anna, scary, suspenseful, steamy and full of tense and powerful scenes. Lucky is not all he appears to be and honestly his brothers should have seen through the surface stuff to the heart of the man, if Nat and Cassie could figure it out then those often with him 24/7 weren't quite such good friends, Archer especially. Ellie was strong and awesome at her job but underneath that one case had shaken her to the point of revaluating her career and changing direction a bit, I could quite understand that. A readers dream story it had something of everything in romance and excitement, it had depth and layers, plenty of stuff going on to keep focus and attention and characters to love. Excellent read
This was such a great book and so close to my favourite.
This was about Ellie an attorney and with her life in danger, she is protected by none other than a man she wants to stay away from, Lucky from Eaglesnest.
I did love the friction between Lucky and Ellie all based on attraction and trying to protect their heart. But that connection ex alive and well and surviving the trouble trailing them.
This plot was definitely on point, with loads of action, danger suspense and wonderful team spirit that is always the draw card for these books. The romance a close second.
Flirting with Danger brings readers right back into the action and suspense of the Eagle's Nest Securities saga! Eloise aka Ellie is in danger, and she needs the protection of none other than the Eagle's Nest team. In steps Lucky Lucas. A man who infuriates as well as draws out the passion in Ellie, not that she would ever admit it. But for better or for worse, the former Navy SEAL is there to protect her, and she is going to need all of the help she can get. This book has the perfect amount of intrigue, suspenseful action, and tons of heated romance that readers will not be able to stop turning the pages. I adore anything this author creates, and I cannot to dive into another adventure!
Third instalment of the Eagle's Nest Securities series brings Lucky and Ellie's story. Jason 'Lucky' Lucas ENS resident IT expert comes across as a complete player and flirt, even his closest friends believe as incapable of a relationship, he infuriates lawyer Ellie Fischer equally with his flirting and the attraction that draws her to him. Ellie is absolutely career orientated and has walled up her heart and emotions tight. When a serial killer Ellie sent to jail years ago escapes it's Lucky, the one man she is determined to avoid that becomes her protector. Lucky and Ellie are opposites in many ways but oh so right for each other, he's the laid back fun to her seriousness and like oil and water they are combustable when the heat is turned up. Loved the friction between them and as they grow ever closer Ellie quickly learns that Lucky is nothing like his portrayed persona and she can open up her heart. Plenty of action and suspense as threats to Ellie keep coming, surprises to although I had my suspicions! Lucky is a character that worms his way in and 'Mach Jesus' is truly classic. Enjoyed the book, loved Lucky!
I like military/suspense/romance stories. This is my 1st book of hers because the first two book blurbs & reviews didn't interest me enough. Based on the writing here, I won't read more either.
The more I read, the more annoyed at get at the lust-filled writing. Her apartment is burning down and all she can think about is how scrumptious he looks; can't help thinking he "looked like a rich, most decadent dessert." Chapter 10 and 11 are nothing but heavy-handed, corny, simmering lust (see notes).
She learns somebody died in the apartment fire and all she thinks about is "the memory of his warm, undulating body." Awful writing. DNF at 50%.
I love Lucky and Ellie's story! They are total opposites. He is quick to make a joke and she is serious. They are perfect for each other! They have been through literally, a trial by fire, and they unexpectedly grew closer. This book has everything you could want. Action, suspense, danger and surprises around every corner. You will be on the edge of your seat waiting for what comes next. You've got to get this book! I promise you won't regret it. Sorry, no spoilers. I received this ARC and here is my honest review.
I had problems with the download of this book. Ms Blakely sent out an email about problems in the UK, Australia, and overseas. I am in the US and had problems. When I opened the book there was only 33 pages (3 chapters). Since I preordered the book in January, I could not return at Amazon. I had to call and it probably took 10 to 15 minutes before I got the correct book.
Problems aside, I enjoyed the book. There was a lot of suspense. The main characters, Ellie and Lucky were likeable. So, a good read.
Jason ‘Lucky’ Lucas has been anxious to date team friend and successful lawyer Eloise ‘Ellie’ Fisher from the moment they met but his reputation as a womanizer despite the raging attraction between them. But when a notorious serial killer Ellie helped convict escapes, her life is dangerous everywhere she turns, except when she turns to Lucky and realizes he’s so much more than she thought.
This reader enjoyed but didn’t love this likable outing, despite the telegraphed ending. Rating: 4stars
Conceptually this book is my cup of tea. Badass lawyer heroine with healthy sex appetite, and playboy-like hero that not actually playboy. Not to mention hero fall first.
Execution of the book, not good. Chemistry between Ellie and Lucky, yes. But deep connection that can change even enemy to lover was not there. Plus there's a lot of lawyer-y stuff that I do think it's wrong, and remember: serial killer usually comes to court with handcuff. Oh, and also, we need clarification about these playboy status. Not that playboy but still a playboy, or not a playboy at all? Whatever.
The books keep getting better and better! Love this read with “Lucky “and “the counselor”! They always say there is a fine line between love and hate. When the man Ellie put away 5 years ago escapes prison , her friends freak out and want her protected immediately! When she hesitates to except help Lucky steps in and agrees to be her protector. Grab this amazing book and find out how Jason and Ellie turn dislike to love!!!
Absolutely love this story, Lucky/Jason and Ellie are something else. Enemies turned lover’s, dealing with someone who wanted her dead and someone who wanted her. The Eagle’s Nest Securities team had their hands full trying to find who was trying to kill Ellie. This was an amazing story of danger and love. Each of the characters are amazing and so resilient.
Flirting with Danger was another great book in the Eagle’s Nest Securities series by Anna Blakey and I really enjoyed Lucky and Ellie’s story. These two are complete opposites but they were able to open up to each other and fall in love while Lucky tries to protect her from a serial killer. Things are not always as you expected but I was able to guess the bad guy in this case. Good action and suspense that had me hooked.
S.. sure hits the fan in this story. Unbelievable amazing with what Anna came up with for Lucky‘s Story. An enigma for sure. And lets not forget Ellie, an amazing, bad ass heroine who is wish I would know personally. I loved reading this book. A fun fact finding treasure with lots of surprises, an excellent and exciting story with 5⭐️ factor!
For some reason Lucky really got under my skin ... in a good way. He really resonated with me for some reason. I loved Ellie, she was one awesome character. "Strong." Funny moments throughout the story as well, just when you need them, e.g., 'mach'. Love this Eagle's Nest Securities series.
Lucky has perfected his persona as a player. So well in fact that his own team has no idea it’s all an act. Ellie is so worried that she’ll turn out like her husband hopping mom that she keeps all her dates at arms length. These two are in for an eye opening when her past and his body guarding skills throw them together in close quarters.
Ladies get ready to get your knickers in a twist. This book has it all, romance, intrigue, love and laughter. There is nothing better than a bad boy who is felled by a woman who is truly his equal. Anna Blakely has done it again with her talent in creating a world you never want to leave.
Lucky and Ellie's story is a great new addition to the series. These two realize, once danger forces them into close proximity, that they can't feign hate towards each other anymore....and more shocking for two people determined to avoid relationships...this is love! With tons of danger, action, and the suspense you expect as twists and turns come to light, this story kept me intrigued.
This book had such potential to be good. It started on a high and slowly declined. The ending is a major anti climax. I only give it 2 stars because its not the worst book i have ever read but the author seemed to have started great and its as if she ran out of time or rushed to finish or maybe started running out of ideas.
You will love this Eagle Nest security story, serial killer, fire, secret romance, kidnapping, shoot out dancing, and signature moves... Lucky brings everything full circle. It was so well written. I can't wait for the next installment, "Protecting His Future"
4.5 ⭐️s….whew, grab this action packed, emotional romance and enjoy Lucky and Ellie’s journey from Mr Playboy extraordinaire & Miss sassy, no commitment to will Lucky be able to get to the love of his life in time and OMG I love him. Loved it!
This book was a bit of a slow start for me. But once it got going, the mystery and danger kept the story going. I really enjoyed the characters and their different personalities. And of course the happy ending was great!
Anna has done it again with her witty dialog and heart pounding action. Lucky and Ellie weren't really enemies, but they weren't really friends. But what they ended up being was amazing!!
Lucky and Ellie might be my favourite couple. There were lots of story threads that wove together beautifully. The interactions between all the characters made me feel like I was part of the group. Looking forward to more. This can be read as a stand-alone.
