About the author

David B. Smith enjoys writing Christian romance novels based in his childhood mission home of Bangkok, Thailand. His Rachel Marie series is ten colorful books all happening at the fictional Bangkok Christian School. His father was the former child star Darwood Kaye, who acted with Spanky, Alfalfa, Buckwheat, and Darla Hood in the Our Gang comedy series. David's book, "Finding Waldo," tells the fascinating story of how a budding actor instead became a hospital chaplain in Asia.

David credits his work on two monthly kids' newsletters, Planet Earth and Bodywise, with helping him discover a knack for creative, zany approaches to finding reader hooks for students. "We spent more time concocting puns and jokes than actually writing the features," he confesses. He then moved into authoring TV/radio scripts for a Christian audience. In his role of creating daily broadcast sermonettes, David co-authored such volumes as "Your Biggest Decision Ever," "Popcorn, the Pearly Gates, and Salvation," "Rising Above Anger," "Time of Terror, Time of Healing," "The Music Wars," and "Rock-Solid Living in a Run-Amok World." He also authored the successful teen sports series, "Bucky Stone Adventures," with cumulative sales of 60,000. You can download all ten Kindle volumes for just ninety-nine cents each.

A fan of time-travel and films like "Back to the Future," he penned a trilogy where the lead character hurtles back to major historical events like the sinking of Titanic, the Lincoln assassination, the Columbine shooting, and 9/11. "The Time Portal," parts I, II, and III are brimming with action and a growing understanding of how God interacts with humanity regarding tragedies.

After a second stint teaching math at San Bernardino Valley College, David retired in 2024. He and Lisa have two daughters, both schoolteachers, and four grandchildren. David occasionally plays the keyboard or bass guitar for kid programs. He otherwise spends leisure time recording audiobook versions of his novels and going for long walks.

"Love in a Distant Land" is his debut story in the ten-book series of Christian romance adventures, performed as an audiobook by Tonya Foster Yancey. He and his brother Dan have also released "Once Saved Almost Always Saved.”

Even given that the book is several years out of date, there are many interesting points within it. I must confess to being slightly irritated by the fact that the whole question of someone to handle transfers between Peter and Paul is not given much scrutiny. The pioneering work of the economics of politics has great value here.

Aside from that this is a cautionary tale of the state as the worm Ourobos where it's appetite grows such that it consumes itself

Worth a read.
