Second Verse is a strangers-to-lovers MM Romance packed with angst and steam.
Tai
My life is every man's fantasy... surrounded by my brothers, creating the music we love, with more fame than we ever could've dreamed. We made it to the big leagues, and our international tour is only months away. As cringeworthy as it feels to say it, we are officially rock stars. Fans swarm us on the streets, paparazzi follow our moves, digging into every little detail of our private lives. Except...
I don't have a private life. I'm single. Not happy. Unsatisfied.
And the real kicker? No one realizes. They don't see past these walls I've built around myself, or through the mask that I've donned my entire life. No one knows. No one sees... until him.
What's supposed to be a quick getaway for a cousin's wedding turns into more when a chance encounter brings Mr. Tall, Dark, and Stacked into my life. He's happy, and sweet, and completely chaotic. Oh, and did I mention he's straight?
Connor
Listen, I'm pretty much a mess. I'm loud, and a little clunky, and my mouth moves faster than my brain, which puts me into some awkward predicaments from time to time. And then I'm shoved into a room with this small, elegant man, with a soft smile and a gentle touch, and everything changes.
He's running from something, that much is undeniable.
His quiet confidence makes my go brain fuzzy, and after a lifetime of being in charge, I only want to do what he asks. I want to please... and I want to hand over the reins and submit. For the first time in my life, I'm questioning a whole lot of things I've never questioned before... feeling a lot of things I've never felt. It's dangerous and exhilarating, but it's only temporary. We're only together for the week, so what's the worst that can happen?
It's not like I'm going to fall in love with the man...
G. Eilsel started writing under this pen name in early 2024, publishing works in two genres she loves: eccentric novellas and MM romance.
Her writing puts a focus on sarcasm, snarky humor, sometimes horrible puns, and steamy scenes that'll make your momma blush. Expect heavy spice, in any sort of variety you're looking for-sweet, emotional, depraved, or downright questionable.
Some of her books are one-handed reads with minimal plot, others are more intricate stories that weave themselves through her brain and demand to be put on paper. Angsty and emotional, light and giggle-inducing, and everything in between can be found between the covers of her books.
She doesn't take herself too seriously, throwing pieces of her humor and quirky personality in her writing. If she can't live up to her title of a One-Handed author, then maybe she can at least make you smile.
So lucky to be able to ARC read this! Such a wonderful end to the series and just like the author, I think these boys might be my favorite! I laughed, I cried, I gasped, it was a wild ride but I loved every minute!
This was my first book from G. Eilsel and it definitely won’t be my last (actually, I´ll start the first book in this series of the other band members right away). I’ve read this book in two days and stayed up way longer then I should have because I couldn´t put it down (and I didn´t want to either).
It took me on an incredible ride and I absolutely enjoyed each and every second of it which is really rare.
Tai and Connor immediately hit it of after being introduced as roommates for the wedding resort and spend all their time together with fun little activities and sweet moments. I really loved reading about their time there. They were tender, sweet and respectful with each other and in the way they talked about each other both at the beginning and after they met again. It felt like they‘ve known each other forever and clicked effortlessly. They just fit.
I won´t repeat the struggles Tai und Connor have that are already mentioned in the book overview. But they play a big part in the way both act and react. But they helped each other with the respective struggle they have. I also won’t write more about the content about anything that happend after their time at the resort to avoid spoilers and if you can, I would recommend you go in blind. I loved the plot twist!
And if I hadn´t already realized that I liked the author (both the writing style and the ideas for stories) after the first part of the book (the resort part), I would have know it straight after THIS scene with Tai. I had the thought „what if…“ and then thought „no, that would be way too crazy“ and guess what? It happend.
Second Verse combines some of my favorite tropes in such a good way: 🏖 Meeting at a resort for a wedding 🎹 Sharing a room 🏖 Second Chance 🎹 Rock star 🏖 Forced Proximity 🎹 xxx (would be a spoiler so I won’t mention it but if you read it you‘ll know what I mean)
After devouring First Verse and Chorus, I eagerly awaited the third book in G. Eilsel's Get Your Rocks Off series. The love story I didn't realize I needed. Tai and Connor feel the spark immediately upon meeting. Some may not believe in a reality where a deep emotional connection can forge so strongly and so quickly. But I do. And I saw so much of myself in these characters that I find myself reading this book again to revisit the story, the characters, and specific scenes. If you are looking for a spicy love story between to characters who connect immediately but need to work hard to make a relationship happen, this is the book for you. Note: I highly recommend reading the first two books in the series first, though, you don't have to. But why wouldn't you?! :)
Mild spoilers below, mostly in the form of my favorite early quotes from the main characters...
Tai "If this extraordinary life leaves me wanting more, then what the fuck is ever going to make me happy?" Tai lives a life that anyone would dream of but finds himself dissatisfied and feeling guilty about it. He longs for someone to know the real him, not the "cool" demeanor so many people see. He finds himself with a much-needed break from his fifth wheel status among his best friends and bandmates when he attends a cousin's wedding. He is ready for hot sun, sandy beaches, fruity drinks. What he doesn't see coming is a surprise roommate in the form of an enormous sexy man who is wearing a bigfoot shirt, needs a haircut, and "holy fucking himbo."
Connor "'This is going to hurt,' I say, voicing my thoughts. 'When we have to leave, this will tear me apart.'" When Connor is told he is staying with the bride-to-be's cousin, he doesn't anticipate the immediate attraction or the quick bond that he forms with Tai. He wants to know more, connect more, build more. But Tai has rules: no job talk, complete honesty, no secrets, and no judgements. Tai and Connor quickly form a connection neither wants to break. But when Tai makes it clear it can't last beyond their week together, Connor leaves before his heart breaks completely.
Apart, both experience sadness and heartbreak over their loss, and a miscommunication makes things even worse. When they unexpectedly find themselves together again, can they work past the hurt and find the connection they once had?
What a freaking incredible way to end this series! I didn't think anyone could top my love for Eric and Dmitri, but Tai was such a beautiful broken boy and Connor was just literal perfection. Connor loved so big, so easily, and watching him break down Tai's walls was so freaking beautiful. The way he worked through his new sexuality was mature and sweet, no drama or angst.
There was something really special about the way he loved. Everyone in his life got his full heart. His old friend from college, Dante and Theo, even his ex-wife. That's how you know that someone really has a heart that's worth it.
And the way he was with Tai... They were perfect together. I'm having such a hangover right now, knowing that this was the last of the series, but the way it was wrapped up so well.
Oh, and without any spoilers... I nearly screamed in the middle of this book. Well done, ma'am. Well done.
Wow! I’ve read so many books that most of the time I kinda know where the story is story. I love books that take my theories and blow them out of the water! That is what I love about this authors writing style. Every-time I think I know where she’s going, she makes a U-turn in a different direction! This book floored me with a surprise that I really didn’t see coming! And can I say that Chapter 13 just encapsulates my thoughts beautifully and succinctly!! I read it so quickly as I couldn’t put it down but I am going to have to go back for at least another two rereads just to ensure I absorb everything!! This series is going into my forever pile! Can’t wait to see what else this wonderful writer comes out with!!!
I ate this book up! I was so honored to get to ARC read this one for G, especially after reading the first two. These characters... their personalities and how they shine through the pages, their pasts and struggles, their triumphs, the way they support each other, ugh! I felt every emotion throughout this book and cried both happy and sad tears.
I can't recommend this book enough! You can *technically* read it as a standalone, however I highly recommend reading the series in order so you can truly appreciate each of the characters as much as possible.
*I did receive this book in advance to read and review for the author, however my review and opinions are my own.
Did it rip my heart apart, stitch it back together, then rip it apart again? Also, yes.
Am I going to recommend it to you? Absofxckinglutely
While I absolutely adore this one, there are a few questions to what felt like important moments that don’t get answered so it still has flaws but it’s an easy 4.5 ⭐️
Just make sure you have tissues..like ~allll~ the tissues.
This book was everything! I absolutely love this series and the crazy guys in them. Getting to learn more about Tai and really get to know him on a deeper level was so real. The book made me laugh, cry, and laugh some more. It gave me some twists I wasn’t expecting and kept me on my toes. Conner is so freaking sweet and him with Tai is perfection.
Tai is the most beautiful broken boy. I loved seeing him grow as a character because wow the depth. Connor is super sweet and a total teddy bear. I loved them together. I do think reading the first two would have made me love this even more but even without their back stories I loved it. I definitely have to go back and read them because I love Theo.
Holy mother of good boys. This is the third and final installment in the Get Your Rocks Off series and it was everything I hoped and more. Tai was the perfect broken boy + Connor was the big teddy bear he needed. There were moments I had to stop and reread some of these spicy scenes because gooddddd lord they are 🔥🔥🔥.
I love this book so much!! Tai & Conner were everything! I keep getting caught off guard at the emotions I’ve been going through during this series! This book was probably the most emotional for me! However there was a full on giggle sessions during double dares! *PINK EYE*
I loved it so much and I love them! Going to miss the whole group so much!
I absolutely loved this series. I felt like the writing got progressively better each book. The angst, spice, and pacing were great, however, I do wish there had been a little more time with then together. I would have also liked additional daddy/boy action. But the ending to the series was perfect. 🥰
Loved this entire series!! This book wrapped everything up beautifully. Ugh sweet baby Tai and Connor are so perfect together. I love their dynamic and how they support and ground each other. Definitely a must read.
Another 5 star read!! This entire series is amazing and gets better with each book. The third book is truly magical. It brought me joy, heartache, laughter and love. I cannot recommend this trilogy enough. Definitely one of my top reads of the year.
This story... About 20% in I stopped doing life things. I found myself all in. I didn't stop until the end. I love this author's writing style. The banter, the spiciness, the snuggles. Tai is such a great character. I'm pretty sure I fell in love with him. But the twist?! I kind of saw a coming but then the second twist occurred and that one had me yell WHAAATTTT?! That's all you're going to get from me. It's a great book. Read it. I'm going to go buy it because it must be part of my library.
This book was so much more than i expected. I immediately fell in love with the characters and was rooting for them. The writing is so good and the spicy scenes were amazing. 🥰
