*An advance reader copy was provided to me in exchange for an honest review.*
In true Gia Stevens fashion, this book has amazing banter, witty comebacks and one heck of a surprise waiting for them back in Harbor Highlands. Eve walks right up to a handsome stranger in the middle of a Florida wedding reception, that she’s crashing, and kisses him. What was supposed to make her now ex-boyfriend (and ex-boss) jealous, turns into a not-quite one night stand. No real names are exchanged.
A few days later, Eve has settled back in with her brother, Jake, at his home in Harbor Highlands where she grew up. Since she’s only there to figure out what’s next, Eve agrees to pitch in at Porter’s, Jake’s bar. She’s training with Nora on the floor when the door opens and the stranger from the wedding comes walking in the door. Not only is he confused that she’s there but wonders why she’s wearing one of the bar’s t-shirts.
This is where Eve finds out that the nameless stranger she hooked up with in Florida is Lachlan, Porter’s bartender and her brother’s best friend. Lach is floored to find the smexy, bold, daring woman from just a few nights ago is not only in his place of employment, but is his best friend’s sister.
Nothing can happen between them again with all this weighing against them… or could it? After trying to ignore one another while in the bar and not getting Jake’s suspicions up, Eve and Lach decide to go for it, but keep it on the down-low for now. Of course, everyone else who works in the bar knows there’s something going on.
Their chemistry steams up my glasses… and everything going along just peachy, when Eve’s bad luck catches up with her. She realizes that she’s pregnant and Lach isn’t the daddy. No, that would be her lying, two-time louse of an ex-boss, who she hoped never to have to speak to again. Let’s just say that when Eve tells Lach, he steps right up to support her. Now they really need to tell Jake what’s going on. But in true romcom fashion, Jake catches them, and boy is he angry.
What comes next is a lot of groveling, hard feelings, even tougher decision, the ex-boss/baby daddy who wants more than he deserves and is shameless, and a direction that Eve didn’t see her life going in. But it’s all for the best, right? You’re just going to have to read the book to find out.
This book gave me all the feels and left me wanting more… as Gia Stevens’ books normally do. I love that she set us up for the next book in The Brews and Flings series with a sneak peak with the last chapter being about Nora. She deserves her happily ever after.
