She was trapped in a marriage, not expecting that his touch would set her free… Lady Katherine de Beaumont knows her family is just a pawn in King Edward’s ruthless game against the Scots. But being promised to the Highlander who murdered her father? It’s outrageous!
Katherine would rather rot in a cell than marry the brute—until a mission she can’t refuse forces her into his arms.
Domhnall MacLeod has no patience for orders, especially when they involve marrying a certain sharp-tongued madwoman. But as Katherine worms her way past his defenses, Domhnall realizes he’s in danger of revealing what he’s sworn to keep hidden.
His ancestral magical powers…
With every kiss, the dagger Katherine’s been saving for Domhnall’s back grows heavier. But if she doesn’t follow through with her revenge… her brother will.
She swore she’d never belong to him—but fate had other plans…
Kenna Kendrick is an American based author of Historical Scottish Romance living in Austin Texas with her husband and three children. Her, more than 25-year-old, experience as an English Teacher has brought her close to the literary world, growing her love for fictional stories.
Her love for literature was also strong because of her father John, who used to write crime-stories. While she tried following on her father's footsteps, a trip to Scotland sealed the deal, as she fell in love with the Celtic myths and the bleak Highlands.

First of all, the covers of this series were... eye catching!!! 😉 An interconnected saga by different authors, where each part individually has the story of the 5 MacLeod brothers and sisters in the Highlands. There is also a touch of magic, since each sibling had been endowed with a special gift at birth.
I enjoyed Katherine and Domhnall’s story a lot. Well written, likeable characters, strong bonds among the siblings, nice world build up.
Despite the extremely fine cover I just couldn’t read any further. It’s a Scottish historical and the author has plastered written Scottish dialect way to heavily throughout the book, or at least as far as I got, to the point it was a struggle to read. I don’t really like having to wade through.
“I have wished so many times that I could go back and dae it differently. If only I had been closer to me faither. If only I had kent what was going tae happen.”
That’s only a very small example of what I mean. There could very well be a good story in there but it was becoming too exhausting to search it out.
What is with this blatant false advertising lately? This is the second historical book that I pick up this year that has fantasy/fantastical elements in it. If I wanted to read that, I would search for it.
Otherwise, the writing was good. I did find the story boring, and I didn't particularly like the characters, and I couldn't relate to them, so I guess that was the reason. I am interested in reading Kai's story, but maybe at some other point in life.
Laird Domhnall is ordered by the King of England to wed an English noble, Katherine de Beaumont to ensure peace between Scotland and England. Neither of them want the marriage. They both have negative ideas of what to expect from the other. Both were wrong. However, Katherine is being forced by her brother to provide information he needs to destroy Domhnall and his clan. But Domhnall and Katherine begin to grow close despite their differences. Will that closeness be enough in the end? I enjoyed the story and especially the relationship between the 5 siblings. For about a third of the book I could not like Katherine. She was terribly irritating.
This is book 1 of a new series written by 5 excellent Authors and follows the Clan family of MacLeod siblings this first one is the Laird Domhnall’s story. It’s the story of a forced marriage between two long time enemies, a Lady from England and a Laird of Scotland each blames the other and their country for the death of their parents. Ordered by the King of England to unite the two nations and stop the war Lady Katherine Beaumont travels from England with her brother to be wed to Laird Domhnall MacLeod. Her brother though has other plans, the extent of which is unbeknownst to Katherine! This book has it all, Lies, deception, betrayal, honour, danger, and Love! The plot is excellent and keeps you glued to its pages you wont want to put it down. It is an excellent start to the series and one you don’t want to miss!! I look forward to reading the rest of this series!! Cherie
This was an exciting story in the Scottish Highland genre. It was well written, with two families, one from England and the other from the Scottish Highlands. Other readers have given great reviews, and I agree with them!!! Thanks, Ms. Kendrick, for a wonderful story!!! I am looking forward to the other 4 Scottish books in the series!
This is the story of an English lady being forced by her brother who is a Lord and a Scottish Laird being forced to marry by the King of England. Will they create an alliance or will their family be destroyed by this marriage. There are many twist and turns in this story.
Wonderful story full of interesting characters. I really liked the gifts that each sibling was given and how they all worked together to keep their family safe. The love story was full of ups and downs with a happily ever after in the end.
This book is totally different from the norm. This whole story if filled with so much passion and love and unusual gifts. Its one of the best books I have ever read. A must read!
Kenna did it again. Another great story and I love she has taken some characters and gave them added abilities. Which makes me happy to continue with all the following books. You need to get book 1 and you won’t be disappointed.
From beginning to end very enjoyable, inter actions between characters seemed to floe easily, but real teams to make someone cringe, there was several unanswered questions
