Couldn't Finish
Couldn't Finish
first off, I couldn't get with the language among the women. every other word was a cuss word or "ghetto-speak". Second, for the purposes of a romance novel, how could an extremely racist and bigoted person full of so much hatred and general mistrust of others be a neurological pediatrician?? I suppose there are some, but for a novel it just didn't match up. And it turned me off.
the conversations were simply confusing and the heroine irritating. I tried!

Dr. Black's Patient is book two in the curvy goddess series and my favorite book so far. The relationships between the characters are so real you feel like you know all of them. They are funny, loving, confused, all the things we all experience everyday. With a twist of romance and glamour

Dr. Black’s Patient, by Leila Lacey, is the second book in her “Curvy Goddess” interracial, contemporary romance series. This story begins with Dr. Nya Black, a pediatric neurosurgeon, being paged by the hospital’s emergency room staff to attend to a patient by the name of Sal Barbatelli. Apparently, she and Sal had crossed paths in the preceding book, and despite his interest in dating her, she dislikes him immensely, mainly because he is white. You see, Nya makes it her business to hate white people because of an incident that happened to her family in the past. And all she sees in Sal is that he’s the typical white man. On the other hand, he doesn’t care that she’s black and not at all like the type of woman he’d romanced in the past, curves and all.
Nya and Sal have a lot of things in common, from their mutual, close relationships with the cast of secondary characters like Vixen, Daniel, Phoenix, Camille, Gavin, Nick and Randy to their love of high-performance motorcycles to their care and concern for Nya’s critically-ill patient, Parker. But it stuck in my craw that Nya’s overriding objection to getting involved with Sal was that he was white.
With her ever-present, bigotry against white people, Nya Black is not a likable character and it is hard to understand what Sal sees in her, much less love about her. One minute she’s sophisticated and professional, the next she’s flying off the handle and threatening violence. Equally distasteful is the crude, gutter-snap language the presumably well-educated women use with each other. The jumpy dialogue even makes it hard to keep track of which character is speaking at any given moment.
Another mark against Dr. Black’s Patient is its lack of sufficient editing, thereby allowing for the existence of poor punctuation, formatting and grammar. The story simply did not flow seamlessly. As a result, the end of the story is abrupt and unrealistically simplistic.

I... I don't even know where to start.
Five percent in and I was done. There were quite a few things I found to be problematic in the short portion that I've read, but it was enough to turn me off from the rest of the book. Aside from the fact that he used his connections/privilege to get into a wing of the hospital so she could treat him even though she had no intentions of ever seeing him again after the wedding (I call that stalking);
Aside from the fact that he's been sending her everything but the kitchen sink all because he's not sure if he wants to get in her pants or wants something more;
Aside from the fact that she's a complete professional yet threatened to cut him stem to sternum for getting on her nerves;
Aside from all of that, she gave him a sedative and ordered a DRE for him. Generally, whenever someone drugs you and has a hand in something being shoved in your ass against your will, that's called rape.
I really need to stop trusting the reviews on here because I'm pretty sure anybody who gave this book 4 or 5 stars has a sick sense of enjoyment, REALLY low standards of what they expect from any body of work, or is getting paid to rate it as such.

This is my second book by this author and I am so loving her work so far.
This is Salvatore and Nya's story.
Now some folks may call Nya an "angry black woman" in this story but for me, even angry black women, need to be loved. What I love about Sal is that even though Nya tries her hardest to push him away, he does not let her run him off with her black woman attitude or her downright prejudice put him off from pursuing her.
The minor characters are all hilarious and the women are all plus sized and make you laugh out loud with their interactions with each other. I absolutely loved this book and their follow up story in book 3 Nya and Salvatore.
The books were entertaining and romantic and I absolutely loved it. I will be reading all the books this author has on offer because she makes me laugh and gives me the romance too. I highly recommend this book and series.

Great book!!!
l really liked this book. It gave the background on why some women feel the way they do. Then, it went deeper to the underlying problem. This book showed how different dynamics of culture, race, and relationships can play major roles in everyday lives. I would recommend this book to people who struggle with possibly dating outside their race due to issues in their past. This book was a great read. It showed how someone could overcome their fears and maybe find love.

Nya, Nya, Nya.... This chick here honey is too much! I absolutely, positively rock with her. I love that she is a world renowned pediatric neurosurgeon, yet walks around like the star of Walking Tall. This woman does not play. She would just as soon cut you than to look at you, especially if you happen to be white. Oh and please for the love of all thing holy, do not touch her!
The one bad trait she had, that I can't feel her on was her haters for all white people. Though she has her reasons, she was dead wrong. I would never want to see a prejudice doctor, no matter how good she was. As a professional, she gets through the hate for business sake, but don't make a mistake in her personal life. She is ruthless and carries weight in her purse she dubbed Lucy.
When my boy Sal falls all over himself for her, she is not having it. She makes that man pursue her like an addict. She knows his reputation as a love em and leave em kind of guy. Especially since she is a curvy girl and he only dates model thin chicks. Add to the fact that he is white and homeboy doesn't stand a chance with her. Except that he has gorgeous green eyes, a body that was made to lick and sexy tattoos covering it. The man is a looker.
Sal is not a bad dude once you peel back the layers, but Nya is not interested in entertaining the advances of a playboy white man who she distrusts. She puts that poor man through all kinds of changes until he finally bucks up at her and calls her out on her hate for white people.
Eventually, he wears down her resistance enough to get her to agree to a date. Well, the date goes sideways when his boys get involved in a brawl in the restaurant over her friend Phoenix, but that's a whole other story.
I won't ruin the end, but trust me it is good. I love how the cast of characters from the first book of the series are all still prevalent in this book. They are all connected in their circle of friends and it drives the story line. One thing I will say, I was screaming when Nya finally gets to put Jackie in her place! I lived for that scene. On to book 3- more all about Sal and Nya, but this time they go on vacation!

This book has it all; passion, pain, deep love and everything in between. I read Vixen's Curves and knew I had to have more. Leila Lacey delivered in a BIG way! Can't wait for the next one. A MUST READ!!!

Loved it!
some typos, overall it addressed friendship, pain, love, racism and family. The ability to deal with all issues. I would recommend this book and read it again. this is my first book by this author.

Okay this book was just boring to me. I made it to chapter 5 and just could not force myself to read this book. This is just my opinion maybe someone else will enjoy this book however this was not one I enjoyed

It was not horrible but I did not like the main character and there were too many moments in the book that annoyed me.

Very Funny and sad but very good!!
I enjoyed this book. It had a lot going on and I wish I knew how vixen and Daniel met but so far I am glad to have found this series.
