From a small town in Southern, MS and finished my first book, Forgiven Love. It is the first book in the Phoenix Inc. Series. I'm a mother, author, and reviewer. I'm addicted to books, anything to do with Star Wars, Marvel, DC, coffee, sweet tea, chocolate, and mint chocolate-chip ice cream.
I love him, I hate him, I love him! Just wow! The emotions I felt toward Hunter Archer were up and down throughout his story with Jo. I can't imagine what he must have been going through. Hunter went through so many emotions; emotions that you hope to never have to face. Hunter lost everything in his life all at one time and was absolutely overwhelmed by his feelings. But Hunter did the one thing that he shouldn't have-he ran! Hunter left everything and everyone he ever knew and loved because he didn't know how to handle his pain. Jocelyn Montgomery loved Hunter with all her being. When Jo finally decides to give herself completely to Hunter, it is the most beautiful night of her life. When tragedy hits, everything changes. Hunter closes his self off to everyone around him, even Jo. Jo doesn't know what to think or how to help Hunter. Then Hunter leaves. Jo is left trying to hold herself together and leans on all of her friends to help get her through. Jo is a fighter. New life, new company and all her family and friends. Jo is not the same sweet little girl that Hunter left behind. Jo is a strong and independent woman that knows how to handle her business. When Hunter walks back into her life, everything gets turned upside down. Hunter and Jo both realize that although so much has changed, some things never change! Will Hunter and Jo be able to repair the damage from the past? Will Hunter be able to accept Jo and everything new in her life; in their life? Their story will make you laugh, make you cry, make you hate, and then make you love. There is also a fair share of "sit-on-the-edge-of-your-seat" thrilling mystery and excitement. What Jo's company, Phoenix Inc., does is a thrilling roller-coaster ride of excitement and mystery! The human heart is an amazing organ and it adapts as necessary....but it can also betray you. That darn heart can make you feel love when your brain is telling you not to! But the heart always knows!
**I was gifted a copy of this book for an honest review**
I liked the premise of this story. I felt it had a good storyline and good characters. I think this author is on the right track as far as creating a story. She just needs to improve her execution, which is something that will happen with more experience. My biggest criticisms are language, consistency, and editing. The writing itself was a bit elementary, which isn't uncommon with debut authors because it results from a lack of writing experience. I definitely think we will see improvement with this as Ms. Maddox continues to publish. Also, there were a few inconsistencies; though, the book was not riddled with them as some tend to be, and they could easily be addressed by utilizing an outline and more thorough beta readers. There were definitely some editing issues, but I was still able to read the book in its entirety and understand what I was reading.
If you can overlook some of the mechanics issues, this is definitely a good story. I recommend it to romance readers who can see past the errors to the underlying story. Because that part was a job well done.
A seriously AMAZEBALLS debut! B. Maddox has hit the literary world with a major splash!
