Ghost Shoes

Rate this book
What happens when you move to the Adirondacks with your five kids? Apparently you marry your neighbor.

Maybe not everyone does that, but not everyone has my overbearing mother, a case manager from the state on their back, and a house that everyone is convinced is haunted.

No one thinks I can make it living in a small town with my five foster kids but I intend to prove I am not a fish out of water in the mountains of New York.

The only easy part? Finn Lowery, my neighbor, is completely on board with this sham of a marriage and joining our chaos crew.

He’s showing up, carving pumpkins and dressing up for Halloween. It’s just a few weeks of sharing a bed and playing house until the state is off my back. But lines blur and I realize I might be falling for my fake husband. Now I’m not sure I’ll make it out of this arrangement with my heart intact.

This book was so adore and perfect for this time of the year. I loved it so much! I always love the fake relationship/ marriage of convenience trope. Ghost Shoes by @gracieyorkromance
4.5 ⭐ / 2🔥🌶

🎃Gracie York does it again with a great little Halloween themed Novella. The only reason its not 5 stars is because I wish we had gotten just a bit more from the story - length wise.

This is my 2nd book by Gracie York and what a fun adventure it was! I am pretty sure I read this in like 5 hours because I couldn’t put it down.

Ivy is a fierce FMC - one would have to be to be Foster mom to 5 kiddos!! She is amazing and just a bit crazy in a good way. Each one of her kiddos is adorable but I absolutely love the character building and personalities of each of the Foster Kids.

Finn is the grumpy guy next door who is supposed to not want kids, only be there for a bit and no longer managing the property Ivy and her brood of fosters has inhabited. But when they are accidentally backed into a corner by the “crazy things kids say” they pretend to be married in hopes to keep their haunted house of misfit ghosts together!

Fun “Old Lady who lived in a shoe” and “ghost stealing shoes” moments. Finn and Ivy find themselves fake married but the more the kids ask for his involvement, Finn finds himself wanting not just them but the family they are pretending to be.. Finn and Ivy find themselves falling, but are they falling for real? All they both want is a functional family and stability for the future… Will they find it? Add this to your TBR and find out for yourself!!!

I highly recommend this book! Thank you @gracieyorkromance for the ARC.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/ 🌶️🌶️🌶️

A fun, cute, quick read by Gracie York! I love this duo’s writing as we always receive witty banter, wonderful romance, and a fun storyline. This one even put a fun twist on the nursery rhyme “The Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe”, this family came to be, but backwards. Foster mom to five kids, finds herself moving them to a small town. Due to a mishap, she needs her neighbors help and he says yes. Now a marriage of convenience is become more than either thought it could be and they find themselves growing more and more into a family.

If you are familiar with the due Gracie York, you will love meeting Finn Lowery. Yep Lowery, as in Declan’s younger brother! He was such a grump in the beginning, but I loved watching him fall in love with Ivy and her five kids. An instant dad, he met every challenge head on.

Ivy has never had much belief spoken into her. Everyone is pretty sure she will fail at fostering. I loved her resilient attitude and the love she had for her kids. She does everything she can to give them the best life possible. Her and Finn are so cute during the day, but so hot during the night! When the kids go to bed, they definitely learn quickly how to have some fun!

Overall a great novella, perfect fall vibes, and a fun story. I could have easily done a full length novel on these two. Getting to know a bit more of their back story, having more swoon worthy moments of Finn stepping up, and of course more spice between Ivy and Finn.

As always, review any author notes before reading.

“Mr. Fall-Hater seemed to develop a taste for pumpkin beer.”

Ivy and her foster kids moved in next door to Finn. When she ran into a problem with the social worker, Finn didn’t hesitate to agree to a marriage of convenience. They instantly fell into a comfortable rhythm with the kids. And now that they’re sharing a bed, it’s also getting harder to ignore this intense attraction between them. This is a temporary arrangement, but it seems her heart didn’t get the memo because whatever she’s feeling doesn’t feel fake at all.

Such a cute fall novella. The kids are hilarious and adorable and I can’t blame Finn at all for falling in love with all of them right away. I love how attentive he was to all the things the kids need individually and Ivy as well.
And Ivy has the biggest heart ever! It takes a lot to be a foster parent and she’s nothing but amazing giving her kids all the love in the world.

Fall in love with this marriage of convenience and single mom romance that will have you wishing for fall and all things pumpkin spice!

Summary:
Everyone thinks Ivy is crazy and can’t make it packing up her five kids and moving to a small town. When a site visit goes wrong with the social worker and now Ivy has to get married to her neighbor Finn he doesn’t hesitate to say yes. The more they spend time together as a family and alone the two begin to feel like their fake marriage might not be so fake after all.

My Thoughts:
This is a quick, cutesy Halloween novella. I laughed and smiled at how cute this was. I adored Ivy and her kids. I loved how her heart was so big and she had so much love to give. I enjoyed watching them all melt Finn’s grumpiness away. It took gun a minute to warm up to everyone but he quickly began to fit in with the family. He was so helpful and always looking for ways to make them better and feel seen and worthy. Laughed and had the best time reading this.

Ghost Shoes by Gracie York

I absolutely adore these nursery rhyme retellings!! A super fun twist on "The Old Woman Who Lives in a Shoe." Jam packed with laughs, love and all the good stuff! Single mom, marriage of convenience with the grumpy neighbor from next door, one bed, mixed a little halloween fun. But still giving you the right about of feels and real life as well! Ivy, a foster mom of 5 kiddos, who finds herself in a fake marriage with grumpy Finn Lowery! (Yes he's Declan's brother!) While these two have a rocky start it was fun watching them find their footing with eachother and with the kids. I loved the way Finn was unsure but embraced the instant dad lifestyle. Especially with the way Kai jumped in and claimed him & his dog!! Watching these two fall in love and embrace the chaos was amazing to watch! If you're looking for a fun, feel good read with fall vibes, this is it! I can't wait to see which nursery rhyme is next, it's always a good time with Gracie York! ❤️

This is a cute fake marriage story that's perfect for cozying up with on a crisp autumn night.

Ivy's move to the country with her five kids gets a little complicated when she somehow finds herself in a fake marriage with her neighbor, Finn. Somehow, he's going along with the sham of a marriage and seems to be embracing the chaos of a house full of kids (and a ghost?). Carving pumpkins, trick-or-treating, helping the kids with their school work, ghost hunting...before long, their fake marriage starts to feel a little too real.

This is a fun story with some laughable moments, but with a few moments that will pull at the heartstrings too. Oh, and I can't forget the touch of mystery...what is happening to everyone's shoes?! It's a slow burn romance, but it gets pretty steamy after the kids go to bed. This is a shorter story, but it doesn't feel rushed, and I enjoyed seeing this unconventional family find their HEA.

This was such a cute read for Fall. A marriage of convenience between Finn & Ivy is only supposed to last long enough to get the social worker off Ivy’s back, and hopefully allow her to adopt her foster kids at the same time. In no way shape or form is he going to fall in love with his fake wife & her hoard of kids. He is the grumpy neighbor who seems to hate fall, noise & fun…but ends up loving all things Pumpkin Spice before it’s all said and done…including his wife!

I think my only real complaint about this is I wish it was longer. I wanted more. Most books end with me loving it but feeling like the story is complete & with this one I just felt like I was missing out on so much. I’m sure that’s a me problem, not an author problem.

If you want a cute fall read with carving pumpkins, lots of jokes, & a “ghost” stealing all sorts of random things, that also just leaves you with all the warm, fuzzy feelings then this is for you!

This was an adorable novella! It was an easy, fast read and so much fun! I loved how this little family came together when they most needed each other. This is a fake relationship/marriage of convenience with a bunch of hilarious foster kids in the mix and it was all so sweet!

Finn is staying at a cabin that he typically rents out while his home in Phoenix is being renovated. Ivy moves in next door into her parents' old rental home, which Finn used to manage. From the moment Ivy and her foster kids enter his life, they bring nothing but chaos, but when a little miscommunication leads to her parents and the case worker thinking they're married, he steps up in a big way.

Finn was amazing with the kids and so caring, and I loved how his dog Diesel took to them all immediately as well.

This was really sweet, fast-paced story with a lot of heart! Thank you to Gracie (Jenni/AJ) for the ARC!

Ghost Shoes

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is the sixth nursery rhyme retelling from the writing team of A. J. Ranney and Jenni Bara. Each is a cute romance with just the right amount of spice.

Ghost Shoes is set in autumn in the Adirondacks and is loaded with Halloween fun - pumpkins, ghosts, and trunk or treat.

Ivy Henderson is a single mom with five foster children. She has recently moved to the Adirondacks. Her neighbor is the grumpy Finn Lowery. They enter into a marriage of convenience to improve Ivy’s chances of adopting her foster children. Will a convenience turn into real romantic feelings?

This was such a cute & spooky read!
When a gorgeous woman & her five kids move in nextdoor, Finn finds himself annoyed by all the chaos while simultaneously feeling like they’re becoming his Family. Especially when he finds himself married to her & moving into the enormous house her kids swear is haunted.
Finn was such a loveable grump & I loved how he was with all of the kids & how he immediately took an interest in each one.
Ivy oh my goodness Ivy was just incredible. Fun, loving & just trying to give her kids the best life possible you can’t not just absolutely love her.
Each of the children had such unique little personalities & watching their relationship with both Finn & Ivy grow into something more meaningful than they ever anticipated just cinched the whole story together for me.
Absolutely loved this cute Halloween Novella!

This book is a perfect read for this time of year. Finn is minding his own business when a woman and her 5 foster kids move in next door. The way he wanted to stay away but couldn’t was adorable and the way his dog kept going over there warmed my heart so much. Ivy house is pure chaos and I loved every minute of it. Books with foster kids really pull at my heart. It reminded me of the show The Foster’s and how there was never a dull moment in their household. As for the romance, it was lacking. Very much insta-love and you really don’t get to see them grow close to each other, it just happens. One minute he’s moving in and the next they’re banging. Normally that would bother me but honestly the 5 kids, the dog and the Ghost made the whole book for me. If you like fun kids and a chaotic household read this novella!

This is such an adorable bite-sized story that is perfect for Halloween. It moves super quickly but packs a punch - grumpy neighbor (Finn) meets single mom (Ivy) who fosters 4 uniquely chaotic kids. He agrees to marry her after some parental intervening and misunderstandings, which ends up helping them both.

There's so much in such a short story: heartwarming bonding (one of the kids calls him “dad”!), crazy kid antics (lots of missing shoes), one-bed moment (and a nice touch of spice), and he falls first for both Ivy & her kids. I love all of the novellas I’ve read by Gracie York (aka jenni bara & aj ranney) and this one is no different - they are a go-to for folks wanting to dip their toes into spicy romance.

Ghost Shoes is the perfect novella for the fall. It's filled with so much Halloween fun between Finn and Ivy. Ivy is a single mom with five foster children. She moves next door to Finn, and he is her grumpy new neighbor. He helps her with her kids, and he winds up agreeing to marry Ivy so that she can start the adoption process for her kids.

As Finn spends more time with Ivy, he starts to see how much fun he can have with her and her kids. He moves in with her, and they have to share a bed together. This is a quick moving story, but it is filled with so much heart and joy. The aspect of the story with the ghost is so cute too.

If you're looking for all of the fall and Halloween vibes, this is the novella for you!

Mix together the fall season, crazy but cute kids, novella, a ghost and you get this little ball of enjoyment.

I have fallen in love with Jenna Bara’s other novels so I didn’t hesitate grabbing onto this one. I wasn’t disappointment. The plot does move quickly but it’s nice to be able to grab a season specific bit size novel knowing it could be finished in a sitting. I’d love to see these characters again as I can only imagine the mischief they will get into, especially the kids. Found family trope at its finest.

I highly recommend checking this one out (maybe even read it in between trick or treaters on Halloween).

Ready for a fast-paced, fun-sized, holiday novella with a twist? The twist could be that it’s not a Christmas holiday tale. But it could also be a cute little turn of events (or three). I adore this Halloween tale chock-full of adorable anticts, steamy situations, and a found family worth falling for.

What I like about it:

A Halloween-centric plot

Fun holiday story

Fast-paced but not shallow on emotions

Wonderful main characters surrounded by a cast of adorable supporting characters you can't help but love

A fun little mystery that's a little on the spooky side

Perfect mix of heat and heart

Standalone that will send you reaching for interconnected novels

A quick, entertaining and enjoyable novella that will have you smiling from ear to ear. Ghost Shoes is a marriage of convenience between Ivy and Finn plus the kiddo that Ivy is a foster mother. Graci York does a wonderful job of delivering a beautifully written story centered around Ivy, a foster mother to four kids, and the chaos they cause, and Finn the neighbour that walks into the chaos and ends up married to Ivy and an instant dad. On top of the chaos, there is a ghost that seems to be haunting Ivy's house.
I recommend picking up Ghost Shoes and enjoy the chaos, ghost and romance that develops along with them.

Thank be you to the author for this ARC! 👻 🎃

Ivy is a single guardian to 5 foster children and moves into a home the kids think is haunted. Finn is only in town for a few weeks with his pup and wants to help Ivy adopt the kids. They enter a marriage of convenience due to one of the kids making up a story in front of their case worker.

While they’re married, they become a family unit and Finn is becoming a part of that too. Check out this short books to find out if Finn stays and if the kids get a permanent home!

Finn was a great guy that fell hard and fast for Ivy and the kiddos and I really enjoyed this Halloween novella.

Though their story didn’t start out great, Finn grew to love the craziness that is Ivy’s life with all of her foster children and one ‘ghost’ that seems to be haunting their lives. Their chemistry was red hot as the story went on.

such a cute story

I fell in love with the characters of this book. Finn definitely got more than he bargained for so much that he left his plans behind. It takes an army to raise kids especially being a foster mom but this fmc could handle it and now with the yummy Finn , she also gets what she needs. The instant chemistry between these two was just yummy . I loved the ghost in this book even though it wasn’t really a ghost but something most of us don’t really care for. The ended was adorable I couldn’t have asked for a better read.

Great short story!

What a fun, happy, chaotic, sweet, and spicy short story!
A grumpy single temporary next-door neighbor with a cute dog, a single foster mom with 5 kids. What could go wrong? Or should I ask what could go right?
I really enjoyed this short story. Gave me fall vibes, kinda grumpy/sunshine, single mom, and swoony neighbor.
