Invincible’s become Earth’s newest protector, working for the Global Defense Agency led by Cecil Stedman. Whether it’s facing off with Doc Seismic or an alien menace, Mark’s been a good soldier... but something’s changed.
Now, Mark Grayson can no longer follow Cecil’s orders unquestioned and finds himself up against the very organization he’s been working for! This won’t be pretty...
Robert Kirkman is an American comic book writer best known for his work on The Walking Dead, Invincible for Image Comics, as well as Ultimate X-Men and Marvel Zombies for Marvel Comics. He has also collaborated with Image Comics co-founder Todd McFarlane on the series Haunt. He is one of the five partners of Image Comics, and the only one of the five who was not one of the original co-founders of that publisher.
Robert Kirkman's first comic books were self-published under his own Funk-o-Tron label. Along with childhood friend Tony Moore, Kirkman created Battle Pope which was published in late 2001. Battle Pope ran for over 2 years along with other Funk-o-Tron published books such as InkPunks and Double Take.
In July of 2002, Robert's first work for another company began, with a 4-part SuperPatriot series for Image, along with Battle Pope backup story artist Cory Walker. Robert's creator-owned projects followed shortly thereafter, including Tech Jacket, Invincible and Walking Dead.
This volume was absolutely epic! Seeing Oliver develop his powers and helping Mark was the highlight of these issues! Love reading these and getting extra tid bits from the Invincible universe that we weren’t able to get on screen. On to Volume 10!
Mark (Invincible) is finding himself becoming alienated from Cecil Steadman and the Global Defense Agency because of Steadman's methods (using talented criminals instead of sending them to jail).
Plus Doc Seismic and more...
The series' creatives do a lovely job of keeping the joyful storytelling that marked the series earlier issues with the increasingly darker tones that they take in twisting their narrative into a deconstruction of some of superhero comics' favorite tropes.
The beginning was a bit boring but towards the end it became brilliant again. Cecil Stedman’s history was revealed, it was interesting, but it was what happened to Invincible – and especially what happened between Invincible and his little brother Oliver, wow that was chilling! Once again, I just hate this site doesn’t allow half stars. This is a 3,5 story for me, but I’ll give 4 because its latter half was impressive.
Picked up another Invincible book yesterday when I went and saw Fantastic Four at the cinema. The story continues and in these issues there’s a few great moments scattered in a good story. It’s a shame I knew what would happen because they release these after the season airs.
