This has been some really ginned up melodrama what with the whole Haruki/Hazuki thing and then Sakura deciding that Haruki totally has the feels for Hazuki and just doesn’t want to admit it.

Cue the wheels spinning for a volume. Oh, they are elegantly drawn wheels, as befits the mangaka, but they are wheels in clear rotation nonetheless. Looking over this, nothing changes.

Well, okay, one thing changes. Sakura goes from being a good character to a bit of a nitwit who manages to take every wrong action possible. Whatever she and Haruki had is kind of scraping the barrel by the end of this volume.

And, let’s be clear here, this is all her fault. It is completely and totally a mess because she will not listen to the guy she supposedly likes and keeps pushing him towards a different girl. I’ve accepted some wild swings from Sakisaka-san in the past, but this is just next level dopey.

Hazuki decides to go for it and Iryu also tries to make his play for Sakura, plus what’s his name keeps pursuing the other girl who’s hot for Sakura. Minus Hazuki, I just described the previous one or two volumes.

‘Nobody changes except they get dumber’ is not the way anybody wants this to go. I’m annoyed because I feel like this series started off good, went really great for bit, and is now deeply invested in digging itself a ditch just to pad the length out.

If you can look beyond the foolish rationales, there are some decent moments sprinkled amongst all this moping and problem causing. Iryu’s non-date with Sakura is a reasonable attempt by him to do the right thing and also earn his rival bona fides at the same time.

But, you know, this just isn’t working. I’ll finish the series, I can say that much, but recommending it is a whole other thing. Even amongst traditional shojo this is a lame duck. If you spread even further afield to look at other modern titles like The Dangers In My Heart it’s almost embarrassingly overwrought.

2.5 stars - a very, very generous round up out of respect for the mangaka, but this may very well be the worst series of hers I’ve read. It’s just falling apart as it goes along.*

*No, I changed my mind, this isn’t good and I should say so, no rounding up.

Did everyone just try to gaslight Haruki into thinking he has feelings for Hazuki?! All this unnecessary drama for no reason just popping up at the end of the series???? Whyyyy?!

Tristesse T.T

VERY SPOILERY

(I don't really write reviews, but this was so bad that I wanted to cry)

I can definitely say this is probably her worst volume yet. This was so poorly done. It was frustrating because the beloved main character suddenly became this grating character who avoids everything now. She became the total opposite of what her initial character was. She just lost all of her likability. And I'm not even talking about the "Oh, that's how we're supposed to feel because of the irony" NO. This is just bad.

I'm frustrated because the beginning was superbly done. It was simple, straightforward, likeable. They both liked each other from the BEGINNING. And then turned into an unnecessarily long drama that stemmed from selfishness? Saku suddenly became so dimwitted that she DECIDES emotions on other people now. I wanted to see them paving their way as a couple DURING the relationship, not BEFORE. They literally could have gotten together at the end of the first volume. Did we really have to wait until THE END to see them have their happily ever after?

I was so disappointed because I've read almost all of this esteemed author's works. Some of them fare very well with the long-winded storytelling, but this one was a complete NO. I'm also disappointed with the editor who could've prevented this from becoming as absurd as this.

Not to mention, it feels like regurgitated storytelling, and it's becoming a bad pattern of hers (I'm not saying this shoujo manga should be revolutionary, I'm saying the story could've turned out less frustrating than this, and this is the bad habit of the author)

The author is getting desperate to drag the story out and is creating incredibly dumb reasons to do so. The insecurity the MC has in volumes 7 and 8 are so contrived and demeaning that it actually made me angry. You can't be upset with someone for something you think they might do when you have no basis to believe they'll actually do it. Especially when you ask them to their face, they give you an honest answer, and you tell them they're LYING. And the only reason you think this is because of your imagination. Like, I get that it's supposed to be about the MC's insecurity with herself, but this sort of behavior is so incredibly toxic and damaging.

I feel like the drama is all just self inflicted and a little frustrating. On one hand I understand where Saku is coming from and why she's feeling insecure about the situation, but at the same it feels like she's dragging both boys along and then making herself feel down about it. I feel bad for all the side characters stuck in the awkwardness. And poor Iryu. He's trying his best. I hope he ends up happy :') And while I'm more on Iryu's side, I don't dislike Haruki and I feel bad for him too.

Ugh Saku is getting on my nerves. Why doesn’t she just ask Haruki to sort out his feelings and come back to her when he does? Is it because she actually likes Iryuu instead? This drama is kinda ridiculous. Also I don’t like Hazuki since she asked Saku for help with Haruki even though she kinda knew that Saku liked him and Haruki liked Saku. Gotta wait for the next volume.

what the hell... that's all i can say...
i liked saku and i rooted for her. i found her innocent feelings cute, she is clueless about love and i liked seeing her discover her feeling over time. now i just don't get her. this drama is so pointless it gives me a headache. if this all made some sense and had a point, i wouldn't be so disappointed

The miscommunication is getting a little old at this point. Everyone’s feelings are out in the open, but no one really knows where they stand. Still an enjoyable volume, but I did find myself getting irritated with the MC.

yet again, I am begging Saku to not act like she knows the thoughts of others better than they do themselves. she's almost gaslit Haruki into thinking she's got a point. staaaaph.

if the next volume wasn't the last I'd drop it.
