Born 1986 in the prefecture Aichi, Horikoshi first attracted attention in the second half of 2006 when he entered Shueisha's 72th Tezuka Award for Newcomers with his one shot "Nukegara" and made it to the final six, where he gained himself an "Honorable Mention".
Various short stories in Shueisha's Akamaru JUMP followed over the years until he published his one shot "Oumagadoki Doubutsuen" in issue #2/2010 of Weekly Shounen JUMP.

Kouhei Horikoshi is a graduate of Nagoya University of Arts. He was previously an assistant to TANAKA Yasuki.

the shimura segment at the beginning of this volume was fucking brutal on the heart... but everyone saying 'do you best!' to izuku and then finally his SWEET TEARFUL MOTHER saying 'do your best, izuku!!!' fucking tears in my eyes. what a fucking great call back. it just screams, 'do your best'!

The series’ penultimate volume continues to see Midoriya with all of his might and strength to finally take down Shigaraki while his past is shown with emotion and harsh feels, but Midoriya will have his classmates who despite their injuries will give him the help and support he needs to finally end his battle. “Do your best!”

I honestly don’t know what I can say. This volume hit me hard when I first read it, but every time since then that I read it over again I start crying and that’s a very hard thing for a book to make me do, haha. So with that in mind, I’ve boosted my rating up to a five star because this story deserves it. This near-the-end ending is everything I hoped it would be and more in a lot of ways I can’t give any details on and even if I could I don’t think I’d do them justice.

Deku has grown so much but at his core he’s still the same kid who wanted to be a hero and that shines here so brightly, no matter the darkness thrown at him and his friends. He’s inspired so many, he doesn’t even realize and it’s beautiful.

I feel sorry for Shigaraki—no matter how awful he is, he truly believed in what he was doing and for the final blow to be that cruel was heartbreaking. Yes, he deserved it, but at the same time how different things could have been without All For One. Him I have no sympathy for, but I do have sympathy for his victims.

This volume is amazing, heartfelt, empowering, and inspiring. While I’m going to be so sad when this series ends, I’m also excited and anxious to see how the final chapter closes. Can’t wait for October and in the meantime I’ll probably reread this again and cry some more while also feeling inspired.

No penúltimo volume de Boku No Hero, temos a continuação do aguardado confronto entre Midoriya e Shigaraki, que vai além do embate físico, partindo para uma briga mental, a qual -por conta das individualidades do One for all e all for one - permite que os personagens consigam interagir em um ambiente de "suas cabeças", envolvendo também os sentimentos de cada um.

É dessa maneira que Deku chega nas "profundezas" dos traumas e fragilidades do Shigaraki, conseguindo ver tudo o que o traumatizou e moldou suas ações até hoje.

No entanto, há uma reviravolta mostrando que tudo envolvendo as ações do Shigaraki, suas escolhas e consequências, foram arquitetadas e moldadas para que chegassem onde o all for one gostaria.

Esse plot twist torna ainda mais interessante toda a construção do vilão, mostrando que a discussão envolvendo o que significa ser heroi é mais complexa do que aparenta, pois Deku está tentando salvar uma criança traumatizada que está sofrendo, mesmo que agora, ela seja um vilão com potencial de destruir o mundo.

I have no interest in reading about which of Deku's quirks are being combined to do what at any given time, so this felt a bit dull. The story itself is really good, but I am kind of struggling to get through this right now, which is a shame since it is the second to last volume...

Someone needs to learn how to end a story. This cycle of the heroes failing and becoming more powerful is getting old. This fight has been going on forever. The switches between mindscapes and power scapes and philosophy (Seriously, pick a worldview lane here). Oh, look the entire world is cheering on Deku (again). Also, did we not see some of these characters die?

Oh well. It is not bad. Just one more volume. Can the creator of this mess stick the landing?

- nah it kinda hurts hearing nana tell izuku to give up on tomura. like i understand that the odds seem impossible right now but she out of everyone should want to dig deeper. it's her grandson too

- "i have to ask why he can't let go..of that sad, lonely past of his! all he did was put a lid on it." and izuku is just fighting to break through and understand. and i think that's whats really important here because this is a war on ideology and heroism. and although it's very reckless to take this so far, and even a little stupid, i really admire izuku for not backing down and believing till the end that there was an answer other just killing tomura. and i think he knows deep down too, that tomura's partly right about hero society needing to change. that's why they work so great as narrative foils because arguably they are both right, and its when they start to see that from each other's view and still relent that they cannot back down....i think it's just really good story telling. horikoshi GOAT

"and that look on his face, when he's up against the wall and running himself ragged? it makes you wanna risk it all ro back him up." !!!!!! and showing everyone watching him and cheering him on

- him seeing his dad hit him and still trying to break through to help and nana having to confront her own misgivings in abandoning her son which brought about this whole thing

-and to say it for what it is, afo groomed shigaraki. he stole his quirk factor, bolstered his father's strict ways, giving him the tampered with quirk decay. the seed of hatred and the tragedy that followed all by his hand. and tomura crumbles.
-the spiritual damage taking its toll on tomura's body, the hand covering his mouth. like the imagery is just diabolical at this point. BECAUSE SHIGARAKI TOMURA WAS MEANT TO FLY HE WAS SUPPOSED TO FLY YOU CAN'T DO THIS TO ME RIGHT NOW IT COULD'VE BEEN SO DIFFERENT FOR HIM HE DESERVED SO MUCH MORE
