Palace of the Omega, Vol. 2

Rate this book
The omega prince of a poor nation has been sold off to a wealthy alpha king for political and financial gain, but all is not as it seems.

Ilya, the 13th prince of a small kingdom, was born an unexpected—and very much unwanted—omega whose birth brought shame upon his royal family. As the lowest-ranking member and an omega, he is destined for a political marriage meant to improve his kingdom’s standing.

Unfortunately, Ilia’s new life continues to be tumultuous—his husband has been assassinated, and a civil war has erupted in his new home country. But after eight long years of fighting, an encounter with a mysterious yet familiar young man will change his future forever.

First incursion into omegaverse (this review is for the whole series) and I should say I didn't know what I was expecting, but it was quite mild to what I had thought it would be. The art, like always with this author is stunning, I love her style, but the story needed a bit more depth and character development, it was a bit rushed.
In this world in addition to the biological sexes there're three more genres, alpha, beta and omega. And those can bear children regardless of their biological sex. I liked Ilya, he is a male omega prince that was sold into a marriage to a prince of a foreign country, so his bankrupcy country could gain money from his marriage. I liked he isn't what an omega should be, he doesn't want to be defined by his biology, and he fights it. He was expecting the worst due to how omegas are seen in his birth country , but when he arrived to his new home he is quite surprised about how omegas are seen and treated there.
I was shocked when I met Khalid
I wish the author would have put more attention to the political part of the plot and explained better all the implications and how Ilya and Khalid became the men they were in the second volume. We get very little of that, only some sentences, and it's a pity because the political plot had promise. Overall, I liked this story and I how the romance was solved in the end.

Where Ilya comes from, omegas are mere properties, with no say over their own destiny — so he only expects more of the same when he’s sent to the Hann Kingdom to be the young Emperor Khalid’s omega. But Ilya is forced to act to save not only himself but the people of Hann when Khalid is assassinated by his older brother …

tl;dr

⁜ Suuya is #1
⁜ Ilya is not your average omega (also I love him)
⁜ Khalid is cute
⁜ The plot is generic and so are the villains
⁜ The art is sometimes too anemic to suit the situation it is trying to portray
⁜ The censorship is ABYSMAL

thoughts

SUUYA IS DA REAL MVP SUUYA IS MY NUMBER ONE PICK IN ANY DRAFT

Kevin Durant saying ‘YOU DA REAL MVP’

The scenes where Khalid and Ilya thank her for her support, sacrifice, and unwavering loyalty are two of my favorite scenes and Suuya just bats it straight out of the park with Ilya, asking to be allowed to remain by his side. SHE IS JUST SO GOOD, I LOVE HER SO MUCH, AND I LOVED THAT THERE WAS RECOGNITION OF ALL SHE’S DONE BEHIND THE SCENES AAAAAHH

✧ But ofc can’t forget Targe!! Who’s my good kitty? Who’s the best killer kitty?

✦ I liked that Ilya is not some weak fainting omega swept along in the story without agency, an unfortunately common enough trope in a/b/o stories (especially BL a/b/o stories) where the omegas usually sit pretty waiting for their alphas to save them from a tight spot.

✧ Ilya isn’t some shrinking violet, knowing when and how to make a stand. Consider his parting shot at Zane:

さようなら、ザイン王子
機会があれば後宮の外でまたお会いできるでしょう

Oof. That puts Zane firmly in his place: not the Emperor, and not worthy of entering the harem.

✧ Ilya also has skills for which he becomes respected, because he utilizes it effectively to protect those who gather under him, and he even ends up leading a form of resistance, providing a protected sanctuary for refugees who flee Zane’s tyranny.

✧ I ended up loving Ilya the more I read through the manga. He took steps to protect the citizens of Hann because he wanted to honor Khalid’s memory. The people in Ilya’s sanctuary maybe followed him initially simply because they reminded him of their lost boy-king, but I think they ended up respecting him for the leader he became. MAYBE I’M READING TOO MUCH INTO IT IDK.

✦ Khalid we spend less time with, so Tsuyuhisa must default to a more standard trope for him. Still, we see glimpses of his character: his very survival shows he was beloved by the populace, and at age 10 he was more trusted by the Hann people than his older brother. Also he led a resistance force at 18 — not bad considering that there were much more experienced soldiers/fighters/veterans/military personnel.

✧ Also tiny Khalid in his big robes at 10 was so adorable, ugh. But JUST BECAUSE HE HAS DROOPY EYES DOESN’T MEAN HE’S READY TO BE EMPEROR AT TEN, WHAT THE F. Whatever, they claim he has some kind of ~aura where people are like, “Holy shit, he was born to rule.”

✧ Bro, Khalid tried to hide his identity as Emperor Khalid but still chose to go by the name Khalid. Like how many fucking 18-year-old Khalids did he think were running around having been instructed in combat, military tactics, logistics, and other things emperors are taught? I mean no wonder his men were like uhh... yeah... thanks for your confession ... but we already knew you were the Emperor. Serves him right that Ilya laughed at him!!

✦ Unfortunately the plot which you think is super intrigue turns out to not be. It’s pretty much hand-waved with ~key character Chen betraying the traitor Zane , thus leaving him without power.

✧ The “villains” are also very meh. Zane is just a generic tyrant who for some reason thinks that running the country to the ground is a viable long-term strategy... wait, that IS generally selfish politicians’ strategy.

✧ Chen is supposed to be some kind of ~ambiguous antagonist maybe, but he just ends up as a deus ex machina for both Zane’s rise and his ignominious fall. Chen just makes me think that Tsuyuhisa is thinking of making a spinoff about him. But for some reason Chen never betrays Zane and Ilya, or maybe he tried but got outmaneuvered, who tf knows.

✦ Also: sometimes Tsuyuhisa’s less is less art style makes the story anemic and takes away from scenes. The panels sometimes look like rushed, half-finished, drafts that Tsuyuhisa slapped together and said “fuck it, good enough.”

I feel like the story demanded more ... LAVISH aesthetics and maybe a bit more ostentatious detail, especially if you consider the covers and the color pages. Bruh, even Ilya and Khalid’s long-awaited ~first night together isn’t given the attention it deserves. It had half-hearted and flat shading, and some truly abysmal censorship. Like, whoever did the censorship probably took their cue from the Reagan administration because they practically obliterated the entirety of the scene’s eroticism. Wow.

to end on a good note i just want to remember always this exchange between suuya (my #1, #2, and #5 pick in ANY DRAFT) and ilya

4.5✨

Thanks Edelweiss / SuBLime for the arc

Pointless ending. No baby. No pregnancy. Why make out Omegas so disgusting and vile? The time skip ruined this manga. Eight years have passed. Ilia made no other friends, didn't grow, didn't doubt, nothing, just kept believing without faltering. Dull af.
Khalid (his eyes are so horrible!!) and him reunite and it's as if nothing happened. Like, nothing. Where is the emotions?
I was pretty bored 50% in and done with it. They dont touch, wait for the Kingdom to be taken back in 5 pages.
It's a good start to a story but needed to be longer with alot more details.

Alright I finally completed volume 2 of Palace of the Omega.
I will type up some brief thoughts on this story but later I will type up a longer review with more details.
The romance in this story was rushed and terribly paced.
The 4-5 star reviewers/fans of this manga are liars.
They said Ilia didn't have romantic feelings towards Khalid before he was 18 yrs but that is a lie.
He had been seen to be attracted to the boy before he was of legal age in multiple scenes.
Ilia wasn't able to marry until he was 20 years old yet Khalid was married before he was 14.
The Fumi and Tsuyuhisa duo should have written Ilia and Khalid building a stronger relationship as adults before their first romantic kiss.
Illia kissing Khalid the same day they were reunited is suspicious and even more so after Ilia said to Khalid "you were cuter back then" after having a few flashbacks of Khalid as a child.
The writer knew what she was doing at the time of writing this.
Their sneakiness doesn't work with me.
The situation involving Cheng and Zayn was anticlimactic.
Once again everything is resolved in a few panels and the villain is killed in a pathetic way by some random psycho.
This is the problem with short story fantasy BL/MxM manga involving kingdoms and revenge - they almost always end with rushed solutions and for whatever reason a sex scene or two.
The artwork was okay but it wasn't as good as most other manga series I've read.
The artwork reminds me greatly of World End:Blue Bird artwork - panels that appear to have been rushed instead of carefully drawn, disproportionate anatomy of the characters and jewelry that randomly disappears and reappears in some panels.
This story had a lot of potential.
The quality of writing of the characters could have been improved as well.
One thing the writers did exceptionally well was the character Suya.
It is always a blessing to see female characters in BL who are actually supportive of the main characters instead of the usual psycho yandere/jealous rival and fujoshi types.
I'm glad that newer BL writers are helping the category move away from the stereotypical female archetypes of BL.

It’s an interesting story that I feel could have been fleshed out a lot more. Since it’s only two volumes, it felt a bit rushed. The age gap was still weirding me out when they were talking romantically and eventually sleeping together. They met when the alpha was 10. They were separated for 8 years and then when they were reunited, they had these strong feelings that were formed over a short time 8 years prior. I understand it’s supposed to be the whole destined lovers thing, but having strong feelings for a 10 year old as an adult is strange to me. And now that the alpha is an adult, it’s fine for them to do things, but how they talked just made it sound like an adult was in love with a child who he believed to be dead. Like I said, it’s an interesting story, but it felt too rushed and the age gap just wasn’t doing it for me.

Ah, this is like poetry, it's so beautiful!

Everything about it is crafted so wonderfully and mesmerizingly. The story, the art, the character development... everything is truly amazing.

When I read the synopsis and saw the cover design, I had a feeling I would love this manga, and I was right. But it's a shame it felt so quick and short. I wanted it to be longer so I wouldn't have to say goodbye to Khalid-sama and Ilya-sama so soon.

I usually don't like the ABO genre, but this one is different. Even though Ilya-sama as an omega isn't depicted as physically strong and dominant, I love how the author describes the omega status in the kingdom of Hanu as the god-rated.

But really, Ilya-sama is so beautiful. Everything about the portrayal of Ilya-sama is just perfect.

Thanks to Edelweiss and SuBLime for the DRC!

I did not realize that they story was going to end in two volumes BUT I do feel like the pacing of the second volume was done well. Things did happen fast but not in a sense where I was questioning the plot line.

I'm happy to report that the age gap is kind of addressed in the last volume since 8 years have passed. Both characters are legal now before any funny business occurs. I also found their reunion cute and not too cringey. The tiger is my favorite character and when Ila laid down on him one night, I was infinitely jealous.

Overall I found this to be a cute series that didn't have too many high stakes and a BL where I didn't really have to question my morals. Solid 3.5 for the series.

I must say, the second volume delivered more than I imagined it was capable of; and I’m so glad the wait was worth it.

More characters development, more intense chemistry, and political intrigue and high stakes to overcome.

Surprisingly, even the slow romance conclusion was passionate, loving and yes, uncensored; truly, it was a much awaited delight.

I loved the romance between the two protagonist but my heart goes to Surya, because she’s the one that kept both of these two going and surviving the odds.

To make it cute and short, this is a lovely, fantasy two volumes manga that is original, unique, and incredibly satisfying read from cover to to cover ; and I don’t say that lightly; a must read.

-BL, Omegaverse
-alittle bit of spicy scenes toward the end (about 14 ish pages give or take probably)
-strong minded Omega (which is kinda rare in omegaverses)

Something I did like about this series was that they did a time skip so the ML was older before they progressed with the two's relationship. There is still an age gap but their relationship progressed when their older and not where the ML is a child entering a political marriage.

The art is well done for this series from the characters to the background. There is not a lot overall explaining the political marriage between the two from volume one and with it only being two volumes, the story progresses quickly. Would have liked to see more character development with the ML maybe 🤔

8 years without worry and instant reaction is a bit much in the middle of war, but also makes sense given the reactions in the palace previously, only now Khalid is old enough, he just chooses not to act until he feels he is worthy of his prince consort. These two end up being a force to be reckoned with, though some of their allies may be a little questionable. The time jump at the end is a little confusing though, especially as the pair talking look very similar to Ilya and Khalid, even though they are talking about events long ago leading to the renaming of the harm to the rear palace, or as some called it, the omega's palace, which explains the title of the series nicely.
