HAP-PEA HALLOWEEN is an overall fun picture book about dressing up for the holiday. Here, the peas are dressed in all sorts of costumes, as it invites the reader to imagine what they would dress up as.
What I loved: This has loads of fun details in how all the Little Green Peas are dressed up for the holidays. There are all sorts of different costumes presented with lots of great Halloween ideas. The pumpkins in the background work well to keep the focus on Halloween. Fans of the series will enjoy this new holiday-themed installment, seeing their favorite characters celebrating.
What left me wanting more: Although the text has rhymes, the rhythm is really off throughout with different phrase lengths on different pages. Although this is a relatively small thing, it trips up the reader and does not roll off the tongue smoothly. Additionally, some of the text can feel a bit hidden, so it can be tough to make sure it is all read, but most readers will find it all on future read-throughs.
Final verdict: HAP-PEA HALLOWEEN is an overall cute picture book about dressing up for Halloween that will work for fans of the series.
Please note that I received an ARC. All opinions are my own.
This picture book provides a social script for the celebration of American holiday Halloween, focusing on dressing up in costume, carving Jack-O'-Lanterns, and trick-or-treating.
Young readers will enjoy exploring the illustrations, which are filled with dozens of little peas engaging in Halloween-related activities.
I could just look at the pictures in this book all day long! The story is cute with all the peas dressed up for Halloween. Look for the little ghost hiding on each page! This rhyming story is full of fun adventures, preparing for the Halloween holiday, and enjoying trick or treat. Illustrations are amazing, colorful, and engaging. Kids will love this book, especially if they have already discovered the series. Highly recommended for Grades K-3.
Summary: Adorable little peas dressed in various Halloween costumes ask what the reader will be for the holiday, giving several suggestions in fun rhyming and rhythmic verses.
Comments: The illustrations were created in Adobe Photoshop.
I always enjoy seeing more of the happy peas' world in this series.
50 peas as a centipede! The crescent moon pea walking on stilts! There's even a pea in a wheelchair! And the ghost pea hiding in the background of almost every page! So much fun creative cuteness abounds! The tiny detailed illustrations are adorable. I love that they're all the actual size of real peas!
Cute rhyming book about Halloween. Would not recommend for Storytime due to small pictures (the peas dressed up in their costumes) that need a closer eye to catch all the details.
