this was a strong first volume that fans of my hero academia, chainsaw man (but with a lot less fanservice), and jujustu kaisen will enjoy for the goofy humor, fight scenes, and gore! the art is also super unique and very well detailed.

hachiro, also known as fear no.28 created by the mad scientist frankenstein, loves society and wants to be a part of it, despite being something humans inherently fear. he also totally idolizes the unbelievables, who fight fears to protect humanity.

i’m excited for vol2!

Do you like Frankenstein, Power Rangers, Kaiju, have daddy issues, or have a major sweet tooth?
If you answered yes to more than 3 of these then this is the manga for you!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
Fantastic artwork that’s wonderfully diverse and expressive.
A story that’s very tongue in cheek but with heart and real stakes.
The characters are unique and leave you wanting to know more about each one.
There’s a lot to explore and dive into so I’m very much looking forward to the next volume.

I had a lot of fun with this. Exactly the kind of silliness I need right now.

Series: Tokyo Fears Rhapsody #1
Rating: 5 stars - I loved it!

As soon as I saw the cover for this manga I knew I wanted to read it. I love any kind of monster creature and pair that with an ice cream cone, I was intrigued. This ended up being a fantastic and fun story about Hachiro, a Fear who refuses to scare humans but wants to actually protect them.

This world consists of humans and Fears. The Fears are from Infernia and feed off the fear of humans, so they are considered monsters. Hachiro Futani is not like the other Fears though. He doesn’t want to destroy humans and gain power from their fear. He just wants to live among them and enjoy the comforts they have, like ice cream. When Fears start getting in the way of him enjoying his human life though, he fights back which puts a target on his back. This whole concept of Fears (demons) was fascinating and the illustrations of the fears were fantastic.

I really enjoyed this story. Hachiro was so fun and was a bit of a himbo. He loves sweets and humans so much he fights to protect them. He also is really enamored with the Metro PD special operations unit, The Unbelievables. Basically they are like the power rangers but not very good at their jobs. It was so much fun seeing Hachiro learn about being a human, fangirling over an idol, and trying really hard to make a friend.

Like I said, I loved this. I can’t wait to read the next volume to see what happens next for Hachiro, especially since he still has to deal with Jack the Fiend and his gang. Also, I really liked Dr. Rodolphe Frankenstein and all his people.

Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read a digital copy of this book in exchange for a review. All opinions are my own.

Monsters called "Fears" are running amok and instilling terror into the hearts of mankind. One such Fear named Hachiro is the mightiest of all of them, but after randomly getting a taste of ice cream one day he decides he's going to live in harmony with humans and enjoy what their life has to offer.

This manga is a very good mix of action and silly. Hachiro's personality is fun and the way the Fears are illustrated is quite cool.

Thanks to NetGalley and VIZ Media for the ARC.

Really goofy in a way that I enjoy. I just worry that the gimmick will get old too quickly, especially if the series does nothing else. Too early to tell one way or the other.

Read more graphic novel reviews at The Graphic Library.

Hachiro is a monster sent to the human world in order to terrorize people, but he actually really like ice cream and the Fear-Fighting team, the Unbelievables. He's failing at his job as a Fear, but having fun fan-boying all over his favorite heroes instead. The art hypes up the hilarity of the story and the crazy situations Hachiro puts himself into. The tone is the same as Kaiju no. 8's first volume, and will definitely appeal to fans of that series.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me an advanced copy of this manga in exchange for an honest review!

Tokyo Fears Rhapsody is a manga about a guy named Hachiro who is a monster turned good after experiencing sweets for the first time. He loves humanity and thinks the best of them! But when a guy comes knocking on his door, threatening him and his friends, he must decide between being a Fear, or being a normal Human.

I thought this manga was decent: it was funny, but with a tiny bit of serious parts. I think this manga could have been better with a little more serious, and a little less humorous, as much as I love a good funny manga. If a manga is going to be serious, it should be more serious when it comes to the subject matter, and this manga wanted both things but I do think it fell flat just a bit. However, if this was a anime, I would definitely watch it!

The art was fantastic; I enjoyed how the panels were made and created. I'm sure this manga will eventually be turned into an anime and I think the adventure/action parts will make for a good anime.

Overall, I did give it 3 stars. It was middle of the road for me, but I did like it. I will continue to read it more than likely!

OMG, I am so happy I could finally read this one!
-LOVE Hachiro/Nr. 28, he is a Fear who encountered ice cream and decided to live in the human world. He was such a fun character and I love how he kick Fears asses if he encountered them. I also love seeing him become more and more human.
-Unbelievable, aka 3 idiots aka Hachiro's favourites. I am still not entirely sold on these 3 idiots, OK, Unbelievable 1 at least seems to have some sense.
-Hachiro's family. His dad (Frankenstein, yes, really), the butler (who is so hot), the maids (clones), the head maid (who is hot). It was such a hoot to see the POV of his dad.
-The Fears and their names and designs. They were both hilarious and terrifying. Love it!
-The art!
-Tons of humour!

I need more of this one! Review to come in December/January.

Thank you to NetGalley and VIZ Media for an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Not knowing much about this series, I expected a darker and more serious tone, but I was pleasantly surprised with the shenanigans and potential bonding? Hachiro was created to be a villainous monster, but he just wants to have a fun time and learn about humans in a positive light! I loved the characters and even the Unbelievables, and I am curious to see how Hachiro's relationships with others develop in later volumes.

This really wasn't my thing. Partly because I went in expecting something more serious along the lines of Kaiju No 8 and Jujutsu Kaisen. This was purely focused on comedy and entertainment, and it didn't capture me. The comedy was well done and the dialogues were funny. It just wasn't what I was looking for, at all.

A monster-human hybrid just wants to live on Earth, eat sweets, and make friends. Only his "dad"/creator and other monsters keep getting in his way. This was funny and stupid and amusing. The main character was immature, but I think that's on purpose. I'm interested to see where this goes and if we'll see some character growth.

Laugh out loud fun!

Vibes of Power Rangers, Villain’s Day Off, Chainsaw Man, JJK, Kaiju No. 8, Black Butler, Frankenstein, etc etc. A fantastic piece of parody mashup. It even critiques shojo manga as well — all the menfolk are drop dead gorgeous (honestly I hope there’s a future joke where that’s literal 😂😂).

Delightful. Really looking forward to more!

I loved this ARC. I would be surprised if this wasn't a viral explosion of popularity not unlike JJK or Chainsaw Man.

Funny and energetic and so exquisitely styled, this manga is going places, and I can't wait to follow.

Just opened this manga today and went through the first three chapters. So far, I really like it. It's not exactly original for its plot but it has a ton of potential. I will definitely finish it soon.

This was pretty silly! It's like "Kaiju No. 8", "Go Go Loser Rangers", and "Chainsaw Man" had a silly little baby together. The art was really good and some of the jokes were really funny. I'll probably keep reading it.

Coming off reading the like of fujimoto I didn’t feel a deep connection. With this book. There was some great panels don’t get me wrong but heavy on the comedy side and at points I could feel myself cringing.

For now I’ll have to drop it and maybe pick up at a later date

This was fun. Definitely my vibe. This is the equivalent of being the supposed evil villain character in a video game and just wanting to be the hero, and liking food.

4.5 ⭐️

Felt like a mixture of Kaiju no 8 / Hellava Boss / Monster Squad.

Not bad, I’ll continue to read this series
