The ancient past, villainous revelations, and an all-too-familiar evil await the teenagers with attitude as the final fate of a friend hangs in the balance, all while Rita Repulsa — now styling herself as Mistress Vile — prepares a special offering for Dark Specter. Can the Morphin Grid withstand the seemingly unstoppable onslaught from the Rangers’ oldest enemy and her new allies? Between a plan that just might provide a fighting chance for our heroes, Lord Zedd gaining unexpected new powers, and the shocking reveal of The Vessel’s true identity, this new era of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers reaches a critical point that fans shouldn’t dare miss out on! Ushering in a new era of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, fan favorite writer Melissa Flores (The Dead Lucky) is joined by an incredible lineup of artists including Simona Di Gianfelice, Kath Lobo, and Marco Renna, in this prestige, deluxe hardcover collection of the Mighty Morphin Power Recharged saga in its entirety for the first time, along with a brand new short story! Collects Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #101-110, Power Rangers The Coinless #1, Power Rangers HyperForce #1.
Melissa Florres joins as the new writer and immediately starts bringing back most of the major characters and plot points from the series, all to set up the grand finale. I question whether the series needed to end, but I suppose I’d rather it end on a high note, and all this intriguing set up certainly leads me to think it will.
The art continues to be more consistent than the average Marvel run.
If you think the Death Ranger story was rushed and explained poorly, well don’t expect anything better here. New writer takes the book back under one title and therefore one main artist, that is an improvement but really it’s too little too late.
The Lord Z arc is confusing at best and just boring at worst. We get no real explanation of how he copied the morphing tech or made a unique suit for himself? We get no reason for his constant changing loyalties either.
A certain fight just cuts off, it suddenly cuts to the opponent meeting someone else with nothing really explaining what just happened.
These stories feel like they are on fast forward as far as main plot is concerned but yet find all the time in the world for strange drawn out character moments or just characters generally being needlessly emotional for long periods. Even with the one shots thrown in, this book feels short, and lacking the gravity I expected. (Both Death Ranger and Z Ranger just feel lacking)
I look forward to seeing how this all wraps up in the last book(as a fan, I was really excited about the greater zordon story) but honestly I don’t think it will be any better paced or explored sadly.
This was easily, in my opinion of course, the best Deluxe of Power Rangers yet by a wide margin. The stakes are high, and everything is coming together. I am so unbelievably excited to see how it all ends in the final Darkest Hour Deluxe!
