Found this one as a freebie for my Kindle, so I wasn't really expecting much.
Which was probably a good thing...
It was a decent introduction to something new, but my arms didn't wildly flap around in the air while I was reading it.
I sort of like the idea that there's going to be some timey-wimey stuff going on in DC, and I really like the idea of Terry McGinnis making his way into mainstream titles.
At least, that's where I think this is headed.
However, this concept could crash and burn in such a spectacular fashion, that I found myself peeking at it like an armed bomb.
On one hand YAY! , but on the other hand...
Didn't Marvel already do something like this with the X-men?
I'm not judging, I swear!
It just kind of seems like a bad time for DC to pull this one out of it's hat.

Maybe this will turn into something awesome, but I'm not going to do my normal fangirl squeal for this particular event just yet.

It’s taken them long enough but DC finally saw Days of Future Past and decided “yoink - we’ll take that!” and came up with their own dystopian future superhero comic: Future’s End. But DC’s, ahem, “original” thinking didn’t stop there. After the 80s they stopped in the 90s to nab the awesome Star Trek villains, the Borg, to stuff into their series as their baddies. So that’s the series: 35 years in the future, all of the superheroes have been assimilated into Brother Eye’s robot toy collection just because.

The only one who can do anything is of course Batman but Bruce is old and events conspire to send Terry McGinnis, aka Batman Beyond, from the future back to the past, to stop Brother Eye from being created. Yeah, Batman has a time machine - because he’s Batman!!

Future’s End #0 is hot, loud trash - but it does hold the attention, purely because of the surprises it’s constantly hurling at the reader. Here’s Frankenstein - with Black Canary’s FACE STITCHED TO HIS TORSO!! And for some reason her powers still work?! Here’s spider Borg Superman! And maybe the biggest surprise of all - Flash has an awful-looking old man BEARD!

I wonder though if any of what we see in this issue means anything because Terry travels back in time before any of these things comes to pass. That’s what I mean by loud and trashy, it’s an issue that desperately wants the reader to care what’s happening through overloading each page with bizarre action and characters.

Future’s End #0 is a cascade of strange imagery with barely any story but it’s oddly interesting for that alone. And if there’s one character I’d love to read more about, it’s Batman Beyond, so I’m interested in this series if only to read more of Terry’s adventures. It’s an ok primer for the series but even by superhero comics standards it feels a bit much.

This book sure has one unwieldy title. I'll refer to this and subsequent issues as "Future's End" for brevity and convenience.

This book has everything and served its purpose well which was to promote and encourage old and new readers to pick up the new weekly series. It looks as good as the original 52 series way back in pre-new 52 DC. This one has some top-notch creative talent attached to it.

What's not to love about this free comicbook? It introduces Batman Beyond into the new 52 current continuity and it's pretty assured that ti will have some Wildstorm presence with Grifter front and center.

If you didn't get this during this year's Free Comic Book Day, it's on Comixology for free.

I don't know what I was getting myself into when I chose this from the Free Comic Book Day pile in Fully Booked ATC. It was a DC New 52 title with the Justice League so that was comforting, although I have an aversion towards anything that has something to do with Batman Beyond-related storylines because I really can't stand Terry that much. But I'm giving this title a chance only because the premise is ludicrous and interesting to see unfold.

Basically, the superheroes get turned into cyborgs hell-bent on turning everyone into a servant of the elusive 'Brother Eye' and it's up to Terry to time-travel back to the past before bad things occur. The issue ends with a cliffhanger, understandably, where Terry ended up in the wrong timeline because it shouldn't be that easy for him to warn everybody of the catastrophe that's about to take place in the future. So I'm definitely intrigued for the run of Futures End. I'm always up for a good crossover event in the DC universe even if the central character apparently for now is someone I don't have any fondness for.

So I'm really gonna keep track of any developments for this.

RECOMMENDED: 8/10

Well, that was certainly not what I expected when I picked up this comic with Batman Beyond on the cover. But it certainly is one hell of a way to kick off a new series -- albeit a dark, post-apocalyptic/dystopian future DC superhero series. For a counter-point, here is a really good article on why this comic is exactly the wrong thing for DC to give out on Free Comic Book Day, which begins:
So DC’s Free Comic Book Day title this year is 20 pages of superheroes getting killed. That’s not a joke. That’s actually what they’re putting out as an enticement for readers who are going into comic book stores, looking to find out more about these characters at a time when superheroes are the most popular thing in the world, is a full-color comic promoting their new crossover, where characters are just murdered and mutilated for twenty solid pages.

YES!!!

This is exactly what I needed after reading the disappointing Vol 1 of Dark Knight.
Terry McGinnis is teaming up with Bruce Wayne to go back in time and stop Brother Eye, who (or which) seems to be turning every super hero into a robot giant bug.
I will definitely be following this run. Can't wait for it!!

This book jumps around a lot.To the past, present, and future so sometimes its hard to keep up with where your at.However i suggest you stay with it.A very complex story is being told. The cast of characters is immense.I really enjoyed every part that had to do with Frankenstein.Dont want to give anything away but basically the DC universe is being wiped out and its a real mystery as to who is responsible and why. This was a real fun read.Cant wait for volume two.

Amazing

Simply enthralling. What drive such titular characters to such extremes? What is the aftermath? How did it all go down? I must read on and find out!

Taking a lot of the obscure DC characters and throwing a post-apocalyptic spin on the “Evil Justice League” trope. I’m also a sucker for stories involving Batman Beyond.

My personal theory holds true: good artists get slightly better with collaboration, but great artists get much worse with collaboration. Brian Azzarello is a great writer.

Future's End sets up a plot where robots from the future are destroying the world's superheroes, so a young superhero is sent back in time to save the future... sound familiar?

Future's End is DC's rip-off of Marvel's X-Men storyline "Days of Future Past" (which has been adapted into a film) right from the start, and it's also extremely similar to Marvel's more recent miniseries Age of Ultron. The artwork is great but the lousy writing, forced mystery and shamelessly derivative plot make this a pretty bland comic which isn't worth anybody's time.

Sets the stage well enough for the story and it looks like there will be some interesting challenges in the books to come. One problem is that this story has sort of been done before and done well. This isn't an original idea and its the basic plot for all the terminator movies. Plus Marvel just did this time travel thing recently and they did it well with the X-Men Days of Future Past. Bruce Wayne's Batman isn't the main character in this story however I am sure he will enter at some point to present another obstacle for Terry...

I have no plans to type out a long review on my phone, especially one that includes all four writers and equal amount of artists.
This was a freebie read (duh), one that was quick and fun. I'm not a big fan anyone being Batman except Bruce but Terry has grown on me through the years. I thought it was fun to see both of them suited up and working together.
The art is pretty decent, all dark and gritty with random pops of color that draw the eye. Detailing is good.
I'm not rushing out to buy issue 1 of this but I might check out a collected volume or two later on down the road.

I don't know much about these characters, or this particular story line, but it seemed..... familiar. Like, bits and pieces similar to Marvel stories. But the artwork was great, and this was interesting enough. I doubt I'll read more from this series, though, unless I'm just bored.

Action!

Not sure what exactly is going on or why, but there was a whole lot of action. I'm sure the next issue will be more informative.

Uh, you have my attention, post-apocalyptic DC comic. I will be glad to read on and hope for a world without a nightmarish mechanized Wonder Woman.
