Thy Maker: [Dark Fantasy/Sci-Fi Horror]

Rate this book
A DARK FANTASY EPIC HARDWIRED WITH OCCULT HORROR AND SCIENCE-FICTION

-Praise from Royal Road.com-

“Intriguing concept, well-written in both style and substance while challenging existing ‘granteds’ with what fantasy monsters are. That is so hard, and absolutely so delicious.”

“This is one of the more interesting and unique stories I've read on this site. Things are not quite as they seem; I found the mystery to be fun and the reveal to be even better.”

“Probably one of the best depictions of large scale battle on this website. The feeling of exhaustion and powerlessness is portrayed so well.”

-Grounded and believable medieval battles. Grotesque new visions of familiar fantasy monsters. A bold, dissonant twist that will reboot your perception of the entire story. ‘Thy Maker’ is a dark fantasy adventure hardwired with demonic occult horror and existential science-fiction. For fans of ‘The Witcher’ and ‘Berserk’, or ‘The Twilight Zone’ and ‘Black Mirror’.

//THEY CANNOT DIE, FOR THEY HAVE NEVER LIVED//

The realms of Tritham and Valtheaux have been embroiled in war for nigh on a century, with no signs of peace on the horizon. As the nobles struggle for supremacy, something vile festers beneath the surface of the continent. With wretched black magic at their beck and call, a cult of demon-worshipping witches has vowed to plunge the world into a neverending age of undeath.

Brother Alric is a Knight of Saint Thestus; one of many pious warrior monks sworn to act as enforcers of the Father’s will. As he campaigns against the new demonic cult, Alric is thrust into a secret world of ancient magic, monstrous abominations, and reality-shattering truths that will test his unbreakable faith.

For being someone who isn't a big reader, I can comfortably say that this book kept me from stsrt to finish, leaving me excited and curious about the future of the world that's been created.

This book blends genres of fantasy, sci-fi, horror, and romance beautifully, ensuring that each key aspect of this book is fleshed out and explored within its own self-contained world.

The characters and their dynamics are exciting, jaw dropping, hilarious, and often times relatable, especially with a certain character, and with the character arcs that are explored, u are never left with the original conceived notions on any one single character, causing for really interesting and natrual character developments.

This book draws inspiration from classic tragedies, such as Shakespeare's hamlet, and, like said classics, forces readers to reflect on its critique and exploration of social issues, experiences and perspectives.

The book, in my opinion, does suffer from nit-picky issues such as pacing in certain chapters, but nothing to significantly affect the reading experience.

I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to read a book that blends scifi, fantasy and horror in a unique way that constantly leaves u guessing !

A unique concept with a surprising twist that turns the whole book upside down. It gives an extra level to the overall lore and characters and takes it from your typical monsters in fantasy to something a little more interesting. The characters are all pretty grey, and I liked that the main character wasn’t made to be likeable, especially in the beginning. Halfway through the story also introduces a character that lightens the atmosphere a little, which I think was needed. v

ALSO I LOVE KATHERYN AND I WILL DIE ON THAT HILL.

I will not be accepting any hate or criticism of her, she’s my new favourite. Definitely one of my fave book characters ever. Come for her and I’ll come for you.

Thy Maker follows Alric, a Knight who faces a demonic cult, ancient magic, and a reality-shattering truth. This was a really interesting blend of Sci-Fi and Fantasy and the story had elements that I haven't seen before.

It shines a light on one's perspective of the world and how knowledge can so easily shift how you view your surroundings. An excellent read to go for if you're looking for an engaging Sci-Fi/Fantasy story with some horror elements involved.

A new and interesting take on a scifi fantasy world that will have you hooked for more. There are many fantasy stories out there, which makes it hard to stand out and make the trope your own, but let me tell you, Dylan has been able to create a unique world using new takes on the old fantasy tropes mixed with elements of scifi that has not been done.

Like all world building, it can take you a while to get into the story of this world, but trust me, it will be all worth it, as you encounter twists and turns that will have you not wanting to put that book down.

An interesting element of the book that I enjoyed, is that at times it had me thinking of the human mind and the way humans see religion, and how they treat others from other beliefs, an element not used in many scifi fantasy stories in the modern era.

I cannot say enough good things about Thy Maker. If you are a fan of The Witcher, Twilight Zone and REDACTED FOR SPOILER PURPOSES, Thy Maker is the book for you.
