Life is all about the jigsaw, right? Finding the different puzzle pieces to complete your very own picture. A career you love, a house to make a home, a lover to complete you, and keep you warm at night.
Danielle Renton has a life, and she loves it. A recent law school graduate, she’d been floored when her boyfriend, Nate Lewis, enlisted during their sophomore year of college. At the time, she’d been concerned with what that meant for them as a couple, but in the years that followed, they’d learned to adapt to the logistics of an army relationship.
But when life throws her a curve ball, how will she cope? Can she pick up the pieces and make her picture beautiful again? Or does she realize that, sometimes, the pieces can be too broken to fit back together…
NOTE: Letters Home can be read as a standalone, but has a follow-up Coming Home.

This book was heartbreaking and heartwarming all at the same time. I love how Nate thought of Danielle's future and how he planned everything out to make sure she was taken care of and that she would continue to live. This book made me get choked up. It was all so realistic and I'm pretty sure there are a lot of readers that will and can relate to this story. It's well written and pulls at your heart strings.

A coming-of-age story about a young couple, whose lives are torn apart, leaving the heroine left to pick up the pieces.
Danielle’s journey will take us through: -meeting her husband as a teen - dating him through college -marrying him -seeing him off as he joins the military -tragic loss -grieving -going through the motions -finding a new friendship and support -finding a second chance at love
This book made me a blubbering mess a few times. I enjoyed meeting and getting to know Nate, as well as seeing his relationship progress with Danielle. I felt like I grieved with Danielle when she experiences her worst nightmare. And then finally I enjoyed getting to know the new man in her life, Tanner, as they bond and form a friendship that ultimately turns into love and so much more.
Okay so this is a hard story to describe without spoilers but I did just get spoilers about it and love the plotline.
Based on the blurb though, it's about a recent law school graduate who is surprised when her boyfriend enlists during college. They learn to adapt to the logistics of an army relationship but when her worst nightmare comes true, she has to pick up the pieces of her life and try to find happiness again...
PS - I'm told that it's a standalone (HEA) with no triangle, no cheating, and no cliffhanger.

Danielle and Nate are the golden couple. They've been dating since they first met in high school and have 9 years under their belts together. Their relationship has gotten stronger through the years, as Dani makes her way through law school and Nate enlists in the Army and even gets deployed for a few months. They are finally at the point where they are planning their wedding and planning their future together, when Nate is once again being deployed. Unfortunately the Army didn't take their wedding day into account when they decided to ship him out, so rather than waiting for him to return, they have a private ceremony and Dani kisses her husband goodbye, knowing they'll have a big ceremony for their friends and family after he comes back home.
Then tragedy strikes and Dani has to try to piece her life back together in a way that is completely against everything they'd planned.
Enter Tanner. He was a medic in Nate's unit and he and Dani become friends, each one carrying their own grief as they try to heal. They start to rely on each other more and more and begin their own relationship with each other, but the memory of Nate is an obstacle for them. Will they be able to pick up the pieces together or are they both just too broken to move on?
Letters Home is a beautifully written story. Rebecca Brooke did a great job in making me fall in love with both Dani and Nate, even knowing that they were not going to be getting their deserved Happily Ever After. My heart broke for Dani as she struggled to get through her day to day after the knock on the door completely through her life off course and it broke again for Tanner as he started to realize the strength of his feelings for Dani, not knowing if she would be able to ever accept a second chance at happiness. I had tears of joy, and tears of sorrow and then once again tears of uncertainty as I made my way through the book.
It actually started pretty good but then turned sour. And by sour I mean quite disappointing. Nate's probably the only character I liked then came the impending demise. Sigh.
This is a beautiful story of love and loss, it's about learning to be happy again the way you love would want you to be. This is the worst nightmare of every military family but such a beautiful story written brilliantly. I really did enjoy the story that Rebecca told and the characters she created. The letters were amazing and sweet and I'm going to say it again ... Beautiful!! This book in its essence is sweet and lovely, it had an impact I'll remember it for a long time.
Nate was a military man and Danielle a lawyer, high school sweethearts they're in a fairytale kind of love! The kind where you think you'll never love again. Tanner was a medic in Nate's unit, he and Danielle become friends and grow close in their grief. They find solace and companionship in each other. Tanner is lovely and sweet and kind and makes Danielle happy when she never thought she would be again, he makes getting through the day a little easier. I love how she wrote this story and somehow through all the heartache managed to find love and a smile again.
Very well done Rebecca, I can't wait to read more from you!
Dani was in love with her first and only love, Nate, but life is unfair and he dies after they got married. He was a militar. After months of struggling she is better but one day changes everything. A militar friend of her late husband shows with a letter and her life has a new name: Tanner.
How can she falls in love with Tanner if she is in love with Nate? How can her heart be big enough for them both?
This is a story about being able to fall in love again.
I honestly can’t review this book without spoilers. Though, personally, I don’t especially consider it a real spoiler. I guessed the ‘curveball’ before I started the novel, expected it. If you haven’t guessed it, or have and don’t want your suspicions confirmed, please be warned that this review is completely packed with spoilers. Not about the ending, but about the first 30% of the novel. Thanks for reading!
I really loved the writing. I saw and felt everything that the characters were feeling (hope +fear +love +confusion +hopelessness) and that was super important to this book, and these types of books in general. In the end, I personally think this was worth reading, but I wouldn’t go running to fetch myself a hardcover copy real soon.
This is the first book that I have read by Rebecca Brooke. I found it to be fairly well written. It also happens to be the first book, after hundreds that I have read and reviewed, that made me CRY!!! No, I did not ugly cry like a lot of readers describe, but I cried. You need to have a box of kleenex on hand for this one. Maybe I was more emotional with this read because I had just watched Lone Survivor. That movie nearly tore my heart out and I had the same damn feelings with this book.
Letters Home is about Danielle and Nate, who met in high school and fell in love with each other. They supported one another with whatever decisions that they made with their lives. When Nate comes to her one day and says that he has not been happy with going to school and has enlisted in the Army. At first Danielle cannot believe what he has done, but she sucks it up and supports him through it all. With a wedding to plan and a new job, she throws herself into keeping busy. When word of Nate's deployment comes through, they make a hasty decision, to marry early.
When tragedy strikes, will Dani be strong enough to move on? Will her friends and family be able to help her heal? Or will Tanner Marano be the one to bring her back from the heartbreak she is living with? Will Nate be able to show her that her life is worth living even from so far away? That she needs to learn to trust and lean on others again. Or will his letters and the events that he sets in motion crush her even more?
I really enjoyed this story. The characters were believable and well written. I could not put it down. I was drawn in from the first page. I felt that the last 20% or so of the book felt a little rushed and that Dani's character was always thinking the worst of situations, but that is understandable considering what she had been through. He best friend Marissa and her brother Liam, play a large part in her recovery and I loved both of them. The author gives the reader a look into the lives of those that choose to serve our country and protect our freedoms and the strength that they need from friends and family to do that job. But it also touches on the Letters that the soldiers write, to be sent home in the event of tragedy. Other than some minor editing and timeline issue (I edit, so it is hard not to notice these things...lol) I thought Rebecca Brooke did a great job with this book.
This is my 5 star review for Letters Home by Rebecca Brooke for Eskimo Princess Book Reviews!
Letters Home is a military romance about Danielle Renton and her life loving an American Soldier. Danielle is young, beautiful, and determined. She has been in love with her high school sweetheart, Nate, since she was 17. Nate is a wonderful man. He knows Danielle better than she knows herself. Will he be able to take care of Danielle like he always has? When tragedy strikes will Danielle be able to pick up the pieces and move on with her future?
I really loved this book. It was very well written. I would recommend having a box of tissues on hand when you read this one! This book is highly emotional and is worth every laugh, smile, and tear I shed. While reading Danielle, Nate, and Tanner’s story I couldn’t help but feel for each and every character in the story. Marissa, Liam, Colin, and Greg bring so much to the story. They are really great secondary characters that I really, really hope that the author will consider writing a story for each of them as well (hint, hint)!!
Once I started reading Letters Home I didn’t want to stop. I read way into the night. The writing was beautiful and so heartfelt; those letters home sure do know how to rip your heart to shreds. I can’t imagine what Danielle went through but she was a strong woman and things turned out so well for her. I wish there would have been an epilogue though; I really would like to see where the future stands for her and her love!
If you enjoy military romance novels and you aren’t scared of a big ugly cry then I highly recommend this book to you. Heck I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good romance with not only one, but TWO awesome heroes’. Nate and Tanner really are swoon worthy! Thanks Rebecca for sharing Danielle’s journey with us.

The blurb caught my attention. Having a brother in the Air Force and an Ex-BF (and still best friend) in the Navy, I know all about worrying. I know it's very difficult. So I really wanted this book to be a five star reading.
I don't know what happened. The storyline was good. The first chapters were Adorable. Romantic. Very Emotional. I fell in love with Nate immediately.
I believe the writer rushed some parts and that's why it felt unrealistic. Other parts were too long without giving much information. The end could have been way much better. Maybe an Epilogue?
The story needed more. It was good and I liked it, but I wanted to Love it!
Dani had it all, the perfect boyfriend, new job, and a new apartment. Dani and Nate's lives started some years ago as they went through life's journey together. It was perfect, until that day in college when Nate said he had joined the army, but as true love works, they stuck together.
Dani is Nate's world and he hates leaving her but he has been given dates to be deployed. Their world starts to crumble then in true love fashion, they take the next step together but the heartbreak is just around the corner.
Only been married for a short time and with Nate being so far away on a mission, Dani's world falls apart with just one knock on the door. My heart totally broke in half for Dani, I had to stop reading so I could actually continue once the tears stopped! This story shows you how hard it is for an Army wife and how she has to learn to move on and love again.
Enter the very sweet Tanner, he served with Nate and they quickly become friends. Which leads to Tanner bringing Nate's letter home. I liked that Dani and Tanner became friends before anything more, they helped eachother heal. Tanner was carrying guilt from Nate's death and I just wanted to hug the guy.
Their friendship grow into something more, but guilt and regret surface in Dani's heart and head. You could see the struggle she was having with herself and also you could see the pain she was causing sweet Tanner.
I was happy to see them get their happy ever after in this sweet sweet story!
Warning!!! You need tissues and maybe ice-cream to read this book, but in the end the tissues and the extra calories are well worth the read!
Danielle is newly graduated from law school, about to take her bar exam and start at a family law practice. She has a awesome boyfriend(A Soldier) The love of her life. They just moved into a new apartment and life is going well. She has an awesome brother, and great friends too. Everything a girl could ask for and more. Then her life comes crashing down around her. Will Dani be able to pick up the pieces and pull herself up and put herself back together?
This book was is so good. As I warned though, you will definitely need the tissues, but the calories are totally optional! This book takes you on roller coaster ride of emotions, it is happy, sad, angsty, even angry at times. It is kinda schmexy! Just one click it.. You won't regret it!
I love Rebecca's writing. Her first two books are the Forgiven Series Forgiven is book one Redemption is book two These are also both wonderful books, if you haven't read them.. Check them out!!
This book should have a better warning label on it, 'caution you'll need a million boxes of tissues'. This book is different from Rebecca's other books in the sense of the content, I almost stopped reading it and had the urge to throw my kindle against the wall for what had taken place in the book. I'm sure y'all can figure out what goes down from reading the blurb, but honestly I was expecting something totally different than what happened, and when I saw the title I was also expecting the book to be filled with letters back and forth from the characters, but that didn't happen. There were quotes highlighted and notes taken place that I had written but I decided not to use them just in case people didn't get the gist of what happens from the blurb and that would be a spoiler to use my quotes I highlighted.
This is a really brilliant well written story that had me gripped. Grab the tissues as this book will take you on an emotional rollercoster.
Danielle and Nate have been together since they were young. This is their story. The author did a great job of portraying the characters emotions. I'm really finding it hard to write this as I don't want to spoil it for anyone. All I can say is if I had the time I'd go straight to the beginning and read this story again. Yes it's that good.
Reading such a brilliant book I give thanks that I'm fortunate enough to sign up for blog tours. If I hadn't have signed I wouldn't have read such a great story.
This is a book that will hit close to home for all military spouses. I know it did for me. I figured from the beginning that I would cry but I didn't realize just how much. This book was well written and I loved Nate, Dani, and of course Tanner!
The errors in this book drove me insane! All I have to say is Danielle is a lucky bitch. Seriously she gets one hot ass romantic army guy, then another one!
4 stars. Be prepared for the tissues. Danielle and Nate were high school sweethearts. Meeting in there junior year of high school, they became inseparable. First becoming friend's and then a lot more, even through college. Even when Nate decides to change his major and joins the Army, they are right there supporting each other. When Danielle passes the bar exam and gets hired at a law firm, Nate surprises with a surprise party and gives her a note that proposes to her! Accepting life is sometimes perfect. But then sometimes life is cruel. ( bring out the Kleenex) . After being deployed Nate is killed instantly, crushing Danielle's world. Five months after losing the live of her life, Danielle is starting to pick up the pieces when unexpectedly Tanner shows up with his "Just in cape I don't make it" letter. After blowing up on Tanner , Danielle goes to apologize for taking her hurt and anger out on him. Both being a part of Nate's life they form a friendship, but as time goes by Tanner starts feeling more. Realizing that she feels the same she attempts to start anew but feeling that she is cheating on Nate. How does one get past the hurt and pain of losing their spouse to war and pick up the pieces to build a life again with someone in the military?
Given this book for an honest review from Netgalley
This is my first story by Rebecca Brooke I can say she had me crying though parts of the story. I was unsure when I started this story, because it start when they are in school but it end up not being a teen story, I will say she went through a lot in her twenties. It definitely had me thinking about what people go through when they are married to servicemen. I don't like to leave spoilers stop here because I think I did. I will leave you with this it is absolutely emotional heartfelt story.
I love a good second-chance romance, and add in a little military, and you've hooked me. Rebecca Brooke did a wonderful job with Letters Home!
Danielle and Nate have been together since high school. When Nate enlists in the military while they're in college, they are still determined to make things work. They get married shortly before he deploys. Unfortunately, Danielle is left a widow, and struggles to move on. Months later, Tanner, the medic in Nate's unit, shows up to bring her a letter from Nate. This helps them forge a friendship that ends up being more.
I really enjoyed this book. I had never read a book by Rebecca Brooke, and this was a great one to begin with. The writing was done well, and I loved the plot. I will certainly be reading more from her!
I'm giving it 2 stars because I finished it. So many typos, plot holes and mistakes. I honestly should have stopped reading in the beginning when I realized it wasn't connecting with any of the characters. They are all overly emotional one way or another to the point it seems fake for dramatic effect in the book.
This was a very emotional but well done book. I enjoyed the storyline, the emotions it pulled from me, and the ending was adorable. I really enjoyed all the characters and how relateable they were.
I was really excited about this book when I first heard about it because I've read one of the books in this author's other series and loved it, so I was looking forward to reading more from her! This book was hauntingly beautiful! I knew it was going to be an absolute tear jerker before I even picked it up because the synopsis doesn't give too much away, but it gives you enough for you to possibly know what's going to happen in the plot! I have to say that I only glanced over the synopsis before I started reading, so I wasn't too sure what to expect when I started reading! What I got though was amazing and so emotional! The plot of this book was just so beautiful, but it went quite dark at points, and then it gradually started becoming beautiful again! I did expect there to be tears while I read this book, but I have to be honest and say that I was able to hold most of my tears in! I have no idea how I did it because there were some scenes that were so brutal and emotional! Those scenes completely made the plot though! The characters were amazing! Danielle was the main female character and my heart just completely broke for her! I watched her go through some of the most loving and most beautiful moments of her life, and then I watched it all be taken away with a click of my fingers! I then watched her struggle to come to terms with what she had been through and in time she then she gradually started to learn how to move on and cope with what she had been through with the help of someone she least expected! Danielle was such a brilliant character and I connected with her all the way through this book as well! She was so brave and I could completely understand why she reacted the way she did at times! Tanner was the main male character and he had such a soft, gentle approach to his relationship with Danielle! The relationship had to go like that though or else Danielle would cower and run because of how fragile she was! I just adored Tanner and seeing his relationship with Danielle grow was the sweetest thing! I could also see that he would do anything to cause Danielle as little pain as he could and that he had some deep feelings for her! I wasn't expecting this book to be written from both Danielle and Tanner's point of views, but I'm really happy it was! It definitely helped me connect more with both characters and I loved getting to see their feelings for each other grow through both of their eyes! I can completely understand why this book is a standalone! Everything was resolved and it had a good, solid ending! The cover for this book is absolutely stunning! I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it and I think it represents the book beautifully! Big thank you to Rebecca for a copy of Letters Home and to Enticing Journey Book Promotions for having me on the Blog Tour!
Complimentary copy provided by author for an honest review.
Where to start? First off, be warned, you will need a box of Kleenex to get through this book! Don't say I didn't warn you!
I absolutely loved this story of Danielle and Nate is so beautiful and tragic, and Tanner is just OMG Swoonworthy! Danielle and Nate have been high school sweethearts and have been together through so much, her in Law School, Nate deciding to join the Army and surviving deployments and time apart. Just when everything starts to go as planned tragedy strikes, and this is where you will need your Kleenex (or puffs, whatever you prefer).
Danielle's way of coping is shutting people out and throwing everything she has in to work. Just when she finally starts to get out and enjoy life again, Tanner enters with something that throws her again. The emotions that Danielle shows during her encounter with Tanner, let me know that everything will be ok. She's so angry and when reading this part, I was like, I know we will still go through some hard parts in this book, but she is going to be ok.
There were a few times in this story that I wanted to strangle Danielle. I got frustrated with her, but understand why she did and said what she did. I loved the supporting characters in this book as well, Marissa and Liam, her best friend and her brother, were great and made sure she was fine at all times, but at times I feel as if they coddled her, but it's understandable, they didn't want to push her until she was ready. Collin, oh Collin, I loved him! Nate's best friend and a surrogate big brother to Danielle, he pushed her when she needed to be pushed and I loved him for it. Greg, Tanner's roommate, we didn't see a lot of him, but when he did, he always made an impact to the story! And the Chaplain, he helped Danielle and Tanner through so much and as tough as his job was, I really enjoyed his character and the advise he provided the characters in this book.
Letters Home is a very emotional book, and one that you will love. It doesn't have a cliff hanger, it's a stand alone with a HEA! I only wish we would have had a little more of an ending, I felt it ended too soon and I would have loved to see a longer epilogue.
If you're looking for a great read, maybe something that will make you cry, Letters Home is the book for you. Rebecca Brooke gets better and better with each book she writes, and Letters Home is her best yet!
I have kind of a love/hate relationship with military books, sometimes the come off too cliche and don’t read as authentic but sometimes authors get it just right and then I really love them. I was happy to see that this book fell into the good category. I do want to mention that this book is quite heavy. If you are a military wife this book might be a little tough for you to read in places (as an army wife myself, it deals with a subject that can be hard to read for some).
I really liked this book. Danielle is kind of an awesome character, and I think one of the best parts about this book is that you get to experience the whole romance of Nate and Danielle. I actually had a hard time deciding if I was going to be specific with what happens early on in the book, because I almost feel like it’s a spoiler, but then again I don’t think you can review the book without spilling the beans, so hear I am spilling the beans. Danielle and Nate have this great relationship, are totally in love, he enlists and goes to deploy. They get married right before he deploys. The unthinkable happens and he dies.
At this point in the book I was totally heartbroken. The author does such a good job at making the reader really feel what Danielle was going through. It really is such a heartbreaking read. You can’t help but feel for her, and totally understand how she’s in such bad shape. Danielle is lucky though, she has good friends and family who are totally willing to be there for anything and everything she might need, I loved that about them.
Then totally out of left field, Tanner shows up on her doorstep. He served with Nate, and bring a letter back for her from him. It’s of course not an easy thing for Danielle and she explodes on Tanner. But Tanner is just an all around good guy, who has lost his friend, so he takes what Danielle has to give.
Watching Danielle grieve and then start to heal was really fulfilling as a reader. She deserved a happy ending, and I was pulling for her from the beginning. There is really not a bad character in the entire book, they are all really good people who are confronted with a terrible situation and are able to come together and rally around each other.
I really liked this book, and I think anyone who liked military themed romances or new adult books will totally enjoy this book. I highly recommend it.
