Leaving behind a life of luxury in order to break free from my father was a decision I had no hesitation in making. The downside? I hadn’t realized what leaving behind my trust fund would actually mean for me. The term struggling college student was an understatement when I looked at how my life was currently playing out, which was me standing in the middle of the library, unable to pay for an overdue library book. Poor little broke rich girl. Then he stepped forward, paid the balance, and fled. When I caught up to him, he barely gave me the time of day, walking away from me while I stood frozen in place, calling out my name so he’d know it. Every day I went back to the library in hopes he’d show up, and as the days passed I began losing hope in the possibility of seeing him again. So, imagine my surprise when he showed up and inserted himself into my day as though he was always meant to be there. The attraction between us was undeniable, but as I gave into the temptation and let my guard down, he kept his firmly in place. He was afraid he’d wreck me. But maybe I wanted him to. This is my first time reading A. R. Rose and honestly, I don't read a lot of college romance mostly because I find the characters to be on the annoying side, so I didn't know what to expect from them starting this book. The pacing (for me) went back and forth between full speed ahead and slow but wasn't boring or slow enough to lose my attention. There was enough plot to keep me interested in what was happening and quite a lot of steamy scenes which were rather long. I LOVE altering POVs when done right, and this one was perfection!
Both Caleb and Isla come from different walks of life, but they connected almost immediately. They kind of seemed like they'd been together for a while, but at the same time were still figuring each other and what they were to each other out.
Honorable mentions: The library scene was
Also, we (as in the royal we) appreciate the communication and sexual safety cues BEFORE proceeding.
"Being with her was like playing with fire. But I was a pyro, so fully addicted to this woman I'd play with fire until the world burned down around me. Hell, I'd burn it down for her."
Wreck Me was a slow start for me as I am not a huge fan of fast burn romance. Give me alllll of the slow burn and let the sexual tension BUILD before the "big bang," (see what I did there?). At first, I did not feel the chemistry or the connection between Isla and Caleb and could not see why they were so drawn to each other, other than physically. They also bickered/argued way too often. I was frustrated with Isla regarding her relationship with her parents, especially her father (what a POS, amiright?!), and I wanted her to completely cut herself off from them and their toxicity.
However, at about the mid-way point of the book, everything started picking up for me and I really started to get into the story. The spice died down quite a bit from the beginning of the book (and the relationship between Isla and Caleb finally started connecting for me) and the plot really picked up, which I loved. Weird for me to say that, as I love a smutty romance but I was way more interested in the plot, especially in regards to Caleb and his struggles with his father and what happened to his mother. I also found myself really rooting for Caleb and hoping he could make his dreams for his future come true. I loved Dave from the auto shop and how he did Caleb a solid by working out a deal to repair his car. As well as Chief Collier and what he did for Caleb in honor of his mother's memory (this had me getting teary eyed!).
The story ends with a super sweet (once again, tears may have appeared) HEA. I found myself wanting more and would like to know what happens next, even though I do believe this is a stand-alone. Especially with Isla's father...he deserves to have his ass knocked down several degrees and I want to be around to see (read?) about it.
Although this wasn't a 5 star for me, I did end up enjoying it and I really think a lot of people will love it. Some of the things that knocked it down for me a bit are just more personal preferences of what I love in a contemporary romance and not anything really to do with the book itself as a whole.
"He'd told me since the beginning I was his starlight-the one who helped guide him through his darkness-but I didn't think he realized just how much light he brought into my life. So much so, he had lit up my whole world."
I received an advanced review copy from the author, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
A.R. Rose has done it again. Another amazing novel that stole my heart within the first few chapters.
Isla is our strong FMC who sticks up for herself and is set to pace her own path. Born into a family with money, a father set to have an heir for his empire, she was not what was wanted and boy did he show it. Sit pretty, be polite, have manners, go to this school, marry this man, do this career. Her life was not chosen to be her own but now she was taking the reins. Set to create her own path, Isla cut herself off from her family money and is working towards finishing her degree chosen for her before she takes the reins in her dream. Then he waltzed right on in, showing her kindness and strength to do what she wants.
Caleb Hart, a college student wannabe forensic analyst who can’t quite catch a break in life. Broken home, broken car, broken life. When will anything work out for him? Until he saw her. She became the light that pulled him out of the darkness. His “starlight”.
Check out this beautiful, suspenseful piece of artwork A.R. Rose has so carefully pieced together to bring a wholehearted emotional novel. Read this story to find out what happens between the broken and the beautiful. ❤️

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Another 5 star read from A.R. Rose! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Caleb and Isla had such a beautiful story of trauma, growth, and whole hearted love. This book captured my attention from the very first page, and would not let go. I’m normally not one for insta love trope but she wrote this so well I loved it! If you are looking for a quick steamy romance this is for sure a good choice!
-past trauma -insta love -opposites attract -wealthy girl/poor boy -dirty talk(🥵)
“I’m having a hard time not touching you right now. I’m trying to be a gentleman, to treat you respectfully. But right now, all I want to do is shove you to your knees and disrespect the f- out of you.”
“I will never question you again, Starlight. Your choices, your path, your experiences. They’re yours, not mine. I’m sorry.”
Loved how this book just jumped right into things. You’ll find yourself rooting for Caleb and Isla the whole time; hoping Caleb opens up and shows some dependence on Isla. The ending shocked me and gave me goosebumps! I loved the spice in this story. Who doesn’t want a public 🌶️ scene when the characters first meet?!
I also loved the little detail that brought in her other books too 😜
"She had become my light in the dark. My starlight. The one thing that burned bright when everything else felt draped in shadow."
Beginning with a steamy tryst behind the library stacks, Isla Donohue and Caleb Hart, the seemingly perfect spoiled rich girl and the poor troubled bad boy, became so much more than what met the eye. Undeniably sexy as sin but also breathtakingly sweet, Wreck Me took me through a whirlwind of emotions in the best possible way. It broke my heart into a million little pieces before putting it back together again and I just couldn't help but smile while reading it.
Isla grew up having her entire life planned out for her but she wanted to break free from her father's hold and make her own decisions and her own choices. Caleb lived trapped in a home with his alcoholic father, haunted by nightmares of memories from his past. But instead of being completely wrong for each other, Isla and Caleb turned out to be the best things to ever come into each other's lives. They were two broken souls who had been through so much, both individually and together, just trying to rebuild the pieces from their shattered lives as they explored their perfectly imperfect relationship.
"Do you want me to?".... "More than I want my next breath."
The heat and connection between Isla and Caleb was so powerful and intense, absolutely combustible and all-consuming. I loved Isla's fierce independent spirit as she tried to defy expectations. And my heart truly broke for Caleb. Could he rise above his circumstances or would he be caught in the destructive cycle of the Hart men? I loved how Caleb protected Isla and empowered her independence and how they found comfort and calmness in each other's arms. Yes, there were plenty of deliciously steamy sex scenes but the emotions behind everything went so much deeper than that.
"You’re all that matters to me, Isla. I’m already falling, so if you fall too, I’ll catch you. No matter what."
Isla and Caleb became better versions of themselves when they were together, exactly who they wanted to be. They lifted each other up and felt everything the other was feeling, pain as well as happiness, as if it were their own. They really cared for one another in a way neither had truly experienced before. It was simply beautiful to watch it all unfold. This was a story about falling, getting kicked down and reaching your lowest point before picking yourself back up again and striving to be better. Isla and Caleb learned to trust each other and, more importantly, to trust themselves.
"What if he was giving up on me? On us?"
The third act break forced insecurities and fears to rise to the surface in the midst of some potentially triggering situations. But it was worth it to see Isla and Caleb overcome their problems together. Despite everything, they still managed to find hope for the future and I couldn't imagine anything but a happy ending. The epilogue was so heartwarming and meaningful, bringing tears to my eyes as it brought this story full circle. Wreck Me elevated the new adult genre to a whole new level and I was so happy to get lost in its world.
"Two hearts, Isla. Yours and mine. Forever."
** Special thanks to author A.R. Rose for sending me this ARC to read and review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own. Quotes subject to change at time of publication. Available February 28, 2023. **
This was a great book told in dual first person POV and leaves you with a HEA. There are trigger warnings for those that have triggers.
Let me first say that library scene 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵. There are plenty of other steamy scenes that will have you biting your lip and wishing you weren’t just reading it.
Secondly, this is probably a standalone, but someone really needs to knock Isla’s dad down a few steps that ends at the edge of a really high cliff. I’m just sayin 🤷🏼♀️🫣🥴
Thirdly, I absolutely loved Dave and Office Collier with how they took Caleb under their wing and helped him in his time of need. Also, Officer Collier may have made me spring some tears at the end.
Okay, now that those are out of the way, here is my review. I got the feeling at first this was a fast paced romance, but then it turned to a slow paced romance with arguments and conflicted feelings, then switched back and forth a few times. In the beginning, I didn’t really get the connection between Isla and Caleb aside from the physical attraction. That was until they actually started to open up to each other.
The mystery behind what happened to Caleb’s mother had me hooked. I had the suspicion and suspect pegged pretty early, but I was intrigued to find out how the truth came out and the result. I was also cut as to why Caleb’s father thought that Isla looked like the mother. I have my suspicions but they were neither confirmed nor denied.
Overall, this was a great read and I loved that once Caleb decided to be all in, he was a very romantic and protective over Isla. This is the first time I’ve read anything by this author, but I highly doubt it will be the last.
I received an advance reader’s copy via BookFunnel. This review is my own thoughts and opinions and left voluntarily.
Thank you A. R. Rose for allowing me to read an advanced copy of Wreck Me - these are my honest thoughts.
“I could still salvage this for both of us. Walk away now and do everything I could to forget about her, her perfect body and the way every atom i. My body knew this would wreck me. She would wreck me. And I’d wreck her. Her perfect life, her pure heart, her image.”
Isla and Caleb are two 22-year-old seniors in college who want nothing more than to leave their previous lives behind them and move towards the future. After a steamy day in the library (🥵🔥) Caleb swears that he can’t see Isla and take her down with him. But what is he hiding that could be so bad? Caleb Hart lives with his alcoholic father who treats him poorly and expects him to clean up after him and take care of himself as he has done since childhood. Caleb is told by his father one morning when he’s a child that his mom abandoned them and never looked back. He wants a better life for himself and he has dreams of going to the police academy and working in forensics after he graduates. Isla Donohue is the daughter of Andrew & Samantha Donohue. Her father runs a billion dollar tech company and he always wanted a son to take over his company when he would retire. Isla’s dreams of becoming a Veterinarian, however, have nothing to do with her manipulative father and Caleb could be just what she needs to realize that her own dreams are worth chasing. This was a great opposites attract story of two people who came from different lifestyles and upbringings, and were able to guide each other and love each other through some of the most challenging years of life. Both of their family situations were extremely toxic, just in different ways. While this was very much an insta-love/lust story from the get-go, these two worked really hard at communication and it showed in the development of their relationship. They were very mature about their situations and the realities that faced them. Hello, NO third act breakup! Will Caleb finally realize that all Hart men really are NOT the same? Will Isla be able to break free of her fathers grasp and create the life that she has always wanted? Will they be able to do this together? I’d absolutely LOVE to hear more of their story, and see where life takes them. You’ll have to read this one to find out what I mean!
*Make sure to check TW’s should you have any - i.e. DV, alcoholism, and more.
I absolutely adored Isla and Caleb’s beautiful love story. They had my heart in a vice and wouldn’t let it go. I was instantly captivated by these two and devoured their story in one sitting. I honestly didn’t want to let them go at the end.
Isla and Caleb may come from two different worlds but their situations are somewhat similar making it easy for them to relate to each other. Their instant connection was undeniable and their chemistry was explosive. They are exactly what the other is looking for.
Caleb pushes Isla to fight for what she wants and Isla shows Caleb that he and only he can change things for a better future. They struggle and go through a lot of ups and downs, which broke my heart for the both of them. But together they are a formidable team and as a team they will be able to achieve what their hearts desire.
I loved this story. It was well written, emotional, drama filled and had some incredible moments between two amazing characters.
This was seriously a nice refreshing read. So many of these romance books have billionaire heroes, and the heroines have some amazing jobs as well. This one, however, isn't like that at all. Caleb and Isla are struggling college students who are broke. Isla comes from money and is expected to follow demands of her father.. This isn't what she wants, though, and stands up for herself. She is willing to give up everything just to be happy and with Caleb. Caleb, on the other hand, is from a whole other living situation. His life hasn't been easy at all. Meeting Isla changes his life and makes him work harder for what he wants. He has to leave the past behind and make a future for himself and Isla. This book is seriously a breath of fresh air. I loved the strength that both of them showed and the determination. We see so many sides of these characters, and while heartbreaking at times, it was needed for the story. I encourage you to read this book blindly and really feel what is going on with these characters.
I. Am. Obsessed. This book was the first of mine to read from this author but you can absolutely guarantee that it will not be the last. I have said before how I am not usually a huge fan of the slow burn or instalove. With that being said, I was extremely tentative about continuing this book after the first few chapters. While I loved that it was the POLAR OPPOSITE of a slow burn, the spice was literally fuming from the first chapter, it felt super instalove-y and I was not here for it. HOWEVER, I am SOOOO happy that I kept reading and pushed through my skepticism because the story did something I don't believe I have ever really experienced before. It completely flipped. It became less heavily focused on the spice, and way more plot driven. I became immediately enamored with Isla and Caleb's relationship and where the story was going to go from there. I am upset with myself for dragging my feet at the beginning getting through this book, I only wish I devoured it faster. A true writing talent. 5/5 stars. You will not be disappointed.
Have you ever wanted to find "the one" and have the most intense steamy s3x in a library? Because Alex creates that dream guy for us and man was that scene hot. I still can't get it out of my head and I'm slightly jealous of our FMC.
Isla has grown up privileged where her dad gets/gives her anything she wants. But what people don't see is that even though she is spoiled she still suffers emotionally. Money doesn't always buy happiness. So as soon as she could she moved out and got an apartment to live on her own. Of course she was allotted an allowance that will cover rent and stuff with little left for anything else. But one day she goes to the library and "forgets her wallet" for an overdue book fee and this guy steps up and pays for it for her. She's blinded by him and is speechless. She ends up running after him but he wants nothing to do with her.
Caleb is broken on the inside but he doesn't show it. His mother left when he was little leaving him alone with his alcoholic father. Everything Caleb does is wearing on him, trying to balance school, work and taking care of his father. He deserves better in life and when Isla crosses his path she is everything but he knows he can never have her because he'll wreck her. He can tell she comes from money and he knows he won't be able to provide for her like that. But all it took was one intense moment in the library and for her to walk out of his life to realize he will do anything for her to prove his worth.
Caleb and Isla's story is not pretty at all. It's raw and bold but that's what makes it real. They get thrown plenty of obstacles along the way but that doesn't stop them from coming out on top. Even when Isla's father threatens to take everything away and destroy Caleb if he doesn't walk away from his daughter; they make a united front. She is his sunshine in the darkest moments and makes him a better man. Thank you A.R. Rose for an ARC copy of Wreck Me. This story was powerful in it's own way and just goes to show you can never judge a book by it's cover! Otherwise Isla and Caleb never would've happened.
Wow - this book was crafted to showcase so many emotions. I absolutely loved the feelings it invoked with a love story of two star-crossed lovers(in my opinion). Isla the beautiful rich girl who is struggling to get out of her fathers hold and Caleb the broken man whose been pushed down constantly most of his life, broken due to others choices.
Watching them connect on a different level right away had me so excited! I love those kind of relationships, the ones where you picture everything with a stranger - because I do believe in love at first sight.
At some points I felt like I needed more.. more of what is hard to say but maybe I just needed more information more context. More love. More worry about the now.
But watching both Isla and Caleb push each other to reach for their dreams made this book near perfect for me! Sometimes we only need one person to prove to us we are worthy and that what we want matters.
If you love small-town romances with characters that really stand out, spicy spice, personal growth, and so much more than this is the book for you!
Isla is the only child of a billionaire who a) thinks isla is useless since she is female and b) he tries to tell her what to do. She's attending business school but really wants to go to veterinary school.
Calebs dad is a drunk and his mom left him. Caleb is also a college student. He has been watching isla. He pays her late fees at the library . They are both mutually attracted to each other but Caleb thinks he isnt good enough. The tension is strong;!! Things quickly heat up.
I loved the way they completely trusted one another and believed in each other (every relationship has issues but Caleb and Isla are so cute,). I am rooting for theae 2. I highly recommend
Honestly. I don’t really read a lot of romances that start off super hot and heavy because I don’t really believe it. For someone who reads a lot of romance, I’m definitely a cynic still. However, I felt differently with this book. While yes it did start off hot and heavy with that damn volcanic library scene, it offered enough depth and character exploration as well. I am also very thrilled when I read books about characters with real flaws. It makes it a lot more real and believable.
Plus, when the guy is obsessed first, instant yes <3
This book was such an emotional roller coaster but I loved it so so much.
Isla and Caleb are such a beautiful example of a true love story. She wants nothing more than to get out from under her father’s hold and pursue her own dreams and Caleb wants to be able to get out from his current home life and pursue a career with the police department. A chance meeting at the library turns their world on its axis.
I loved every minute of this book. It was full of love, spice and a wonderful level of personal growth.
My Synopsis: Trying to survive without the stability of her fathers money, Isla is down to her last few dollars when she can't afford to pay her late fees at the library. Embarrassed and about to leave, a gentleman steps up and pays her small debt. But when she tries to thank him, he shrugs her off and leaves. But she's determined to thank him properly and he's trying everything to stay away. Until he can't. Caleb is worried he'll wreck her but it's not enough to stay away…at least not anymore.
My Thoughts: Okay first off, that library scene was HOT! But Iwas given an ARC for an honest review. I think it was overall a pretty solid book, I like how they helped each other achieve their dreams and that despite the struggles of them both, they overcame them all. I did figure out the plot twist at the end pretty early on and expected there to be more with that so the ending did seem slightly rushed to me. But overall, pretty good and I am looking forward to reading more by this author, as this was my first!
When I tell you I fell in love with both Isla && Caleb from the beginning!
Isla is our strong FMC who is the rich girl but there’s more to her than where she comes from. Not afraid to stand up for herself! Comes from money and born into a family that basically has your life planned out for you. She has her own dreams but it takes someone to show her that she doesn’t need anyone else’s approval to go after them!
Caleb is our MMC who is a college student but life keeps throwing lemons at him. Drunk father, student debt, working a dead end job just to put food in his stomach! No color in his life until he sees Isla in the school library. She becomes the light in his darkness, his “starlight”!
This book was absolutely amazing! It’s a must read. HEA, Rich girl/ poor boy, strangers to lover, spicy, small town, dual pov!
Thank you A.R. Rose for the ARC! Out today February 28th 2023.
This was a heartwarming story that was so easy to read. This book started with the two main characters, Caleb and Isla, falling in insta-lust with each other. It quickly evolves into a beautiful love story. Caleb and Isla each struggle to overcome their circumstances and broken family. It was wonderful to watch these two people become a family, help each other heal, and live out their respective dreams. The author was able to write with so much emotion that the characters came alive on the page.
Those who are lost in the dark can always find their way by the stars.
Caleb and Isla are worlds apart. She has the world in the palm of her hand. He carries around a backpack he's had since junior high. This is what it looks like from the outside.
Then fate intervenes. The sparks begin to fly, and the bookshelves of the library see things that would literally set the pages on fire. Until the real world returns.
They say things are never what they seem. This book will take this phrase to the extreme. These two characters ride a very real-world roller-coaster.
Just when you think things are going well for them, the author throws another curveball into their lives. It will keep you on your toes, keep your heart and other areas racing, and not wanting to put it down til the last page. I think this is her best work yet, and I can't wait for the next one!
Wreck Me by A. R. Rose is a stand alone, fast burn college romance told from both POVs, no cliffhanger and a HEA.
This author is new to me so I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I really enjoyed reading this book, it was low angst, easy to read, and oh so spicy.
Isla and Caleb are college students who meet on the library when Caleb offers to pay for Islas over due library book.
I enjoyed Isla and Caleb’s chemistry, the personalities fit together well. This is an insta-love type of connection but they grew together, helped each other to overcome their pasts and achieve their dreams despite their families.
For me there was much of any plot, because there wasn't a major plot twist. The core story was a bit boring to be honest. The only thing that was a good twist was with Caleb's story.
Isla's story wasn't that interesting. The best part about this book was the smut, and there was some really nice thing that you usually don't read about. That was a nice change, but it was to little of the hand necklace.
The story could have had a more interesting plot, and I'm usually one that's all for the smut. But the smut didn't feel as special because there wasn't much happening imo.
This book takes you on an emotional rollercoaster!
An unlikely couple, (one from wealth and one from poverty) find each other. Despite their socio economic situations they both come from abusive families.
Against all odds they decide to try and make their relationship work .
I was lucky enough to receive this book from Alex as an arc for an honest review. This book took me a little while to get into and I struggled at times to pick it up and carry on reading it but I am so glad I did. This book was beautiful and heartbreaking and I hope to see the couple in more books in the future. Thank you for writing this Alex and giving me the chance to read and review it.
I just love Isla and Caleb! Their struggle to overcome their pasts to be together was great to see. I'm so glad they got their HEA. The writing was great and the characters were complex. I really enjoyed this story and couldn't put it down once I picked it up.
I absolutely LOVE Isla and Caleb! The whole rich girl/poor boy trope is one you don’t see as often as we should. Caleb is smitten from the beginning and as much as he tries to push her away, it doesn’t happen. There are some TW in the book so please make sure to read them!
This was a first for me from this author but it won’t be my last. This is Isla and Caleb’s story and it is so darn good. These two were meant for the other and once you read the book you will know why I say that. Isla’s dad ugh I must say he was a piece of work and how Isla was who is is spite him well I don’t know. Then we have Caleb he is living with his family due to guilt but I love that isla helps him see he deserves and with her they together can have so much more. I loved this book and highly recommend.
