I am a voracious reader but only leave reviews of the book was gripping. This series is 10/10! Believable characters and I love that not everyone is out to get you. I think it's more realistic.
The author's technical knowledge was outstanding and really drew me into that aspect of the story. I also loved how we saw the global ramifications, not just what happens in the US.
Also I loved how she gave us endings for the bit characters scattered throughout the story.
My only gripe is some misspelling. Colonel Stanley was written Stanely but I saw it spelled both ways in book 3. Also, Drake was mislabeled as Derrick once and Will was changed to Ben erroneously. These things happen but a good proofreader would catch those.
Overall, I highly recommend this series and this author.
I admire the way this author describes nature and scenes of disasters. I love this genre of books but can't tell you how tiring it is to hear the same description over and over. Maw and deatris are used repeatedly. Its not easy to describe in an interesting way what a storm is doing , over and over again. The lava descriptions were really well done. Pleasantly surprised that characters were not overly defined aka stereotyping. Yet the characters were lovable and yet subtly layered such as the Clay character. Really good story and I have a new favorite author! Btw I love that there isn't a crapload of cussing and no f words to be found. Thank you for that! Its called intelligent prose!
Broken Earth: Reset, book 3 in the Broken Earth trilogy, closes out the struggle of the Stone family, among others, to save as many people as possible from the encroaching ice age by evacuating south, to more habitable climates. Besides the Mas Demons motorcycle gang and villain Victor Newsome, who gets exactly what he deserves, come together in surprising ways. Even Clay Peerly, problematic rancher, rises to the challenge. The writing is good and well constructed, with the exception of a repeated paragraph I noted. If you're a fan of disaster fiction, you'll love this series. Note: this would have been a 5 star review if not for the repeated paragraph I mentioned
I had trouble staying interested in the characters. They were very one dimensional to me.
I really disliked the "not so subtle" allusions to the president being Donald Trump and the author's very derogatory portrayal of him. Does she personally know President Trump? If she doesn't know him, her viewpoint is just detrimental and not needed for the storyline. I personally found it so annoying that I couldn't finish the series.
I have read many disaster novels and series, but nothing like Broken Earth. Although I enjoyed the first two books, nothing prepared me for Reset. It was unlike anything I have ever read. I had to constantly remind myself that it was fiction, and that I wasn't living it firsthand. Brilliant writing.
A fitting end to this trilogy. Ben, his family, and friends survived the broken earth catastrophe. This novel is the last in the trilogy and can be read as a standalone but to truly get the full experience read the first two books: Devastation and Havoc in THE BROKEN EARTH series. A truly exciting adventure. Great job Barbara J Barker. Thank you.
This third book has a very choppy flow, but the story is compelling enough to ignore it. The characters are relatable and ring true. Truly enjoyed this series and wouldn’t mind seeing something follow up with this same group.
If you like disaster and end of the world type books then this series is for you!!! Loved the characters and the non stop action. Really hoping this never happens in real life!
I found this series tiresome. Far too much stuff. Scrolled through most of it. This could have been one book. Guess she needed the income from three. I can only handle so much.
As the last book in the series it proved to be another excellent read and a decent ending to the series. I would like to see one more book updating the "New Earth" and its population but I would highly recommend this entire series
Third of the series and it’s as fun and fast as read as the first two books. Comes to a decent ending too. Would definitely look for more books from this author.
This was an exciting ride to the end. The book was enjoyable and finished in a satisfactory fashion. I decided to overlook some factual errors and go with the adventure. Good trilogy.
This series kept me up at night and reaching for it at every opportunity. The characters were very well developed and the science felt true. Fantastic story!
The entire trilogy is awesome! Impossible to put down storyline with intriguing characters. Even had a relatively happy ending! Kept me up late several nights.
I liked all three books. Lots of action. Not all of the people had happy endings, but we are left with a strong sense of hope, even with all the devestation.
