In The Only Witness, Book One of the Center City Series, Vera and Deacon and their close friends, Susan and Houdini, lose everything when The Grievers, a violent MC populated by weres and shifters, runs roughshod over the town and decimates The Vikings, the MC Deacon, a wolf himself, leads. Exiled from the pack and forced to flee, the foursome take refuge in Wyoming and try to rebuild a new life.
But now The Grievers, having stripped Center City of most of its life force, are themselves destroyed by an even more powerful and nefarious enemy. Deke, Vera, Houdini, and Susan are called back to their town to try to rebuild and reclaim what was lost.
In the midst of so much loss, Susan, a shifter, and Houdini, a human, who were thrown together as mates when they were barely more than strangers, find that a bond that had been forged as an expedient falsehood is becoming something real. They both have painful losses in their pasts. But while Houdini is open to loving again and embraces his feelings for Susan, she holds back, afraid for him and for herself, not trusting herself to love the way Houdini deserves to be loved, and not believing she is worthy of the love he offers her.
When a ghost of her past reemerges in an unimaginably horrible way, Susan must fight for her life, and Houdini must fight for her. In that fight, if they can survive it, the strength of their love will be tested and tempered. Only then can Susan find her way home.

I’ve loved Houdini since the first book in this series, The Only Witness. He’s the perfect kind of male lead—strong, possessive, and broody. He’s strong enough to know when he loves and to fight for it rather than against it. He treats his woman with care and respect. He’s patient without being a pushover. He’s charming and sweet, but you don’t want to mess with him or his. And he’s hot, hot, hot. A human in a world of shifters, he’s tough enough to hold his own, and that’s pretty impressive. In The Only Witness, Houdini and his friends—his family—lose their home in a rival’s grab for power. In The Way Home, they have to fight hard to get that home back. Houdini has to fight even harder to reclaim the woman he loves from the clutches of a horrible evil, and Susan has to fight to survive it, to come home whole, and to realize that she’s worth a love like his. In the end, the power of their love is the only thing strong enough to get them through. This is a tense, emotional story that had me crying and cheering and swooning. I really love the Center City family!
Really like this one too! Glad that we got to know more about Susan and Houdini. The top subject about The Hunters was heartbreaking for me. I've always loved stories about were's and shifters and personally I've always thought it would be so cool to be able to do that. It doesn't scare me - I look at it as a special gift. I also liked the fact that the shifting element wasn't in your face and there wasn't page after page about it because this is a series about an MC who are shifters. There are a lot of interesting characters in this series so I'm really hoping that there will be more books coming.
This book has a lot going on in it. It is mainly a shifter book and does touch on The Vikings MC that the characters belonged to. It was a good read, different than what I usually read as Shifters aren't my usual choice but good none the less.
