The Man for You

Rate this book
Having a life shared on social media means there will be people who think they know me. Think they deserve access to me. Think they know more about me than I’ve shared, or want to share. That’s the downside of becoming an “influencer.”

It started with some harmless comments, then he moved to DM’s. But now messages are escalating. He’s escalating and I don’t even know who “he” is. And it’s not only on my phone anymore. It’s notes on my car and things out of place. Shadows that don’t belong to my stride and unease that continues to grow anytime I’m alone.

I don’t know where to turn for safety. Nowhere is safe. Nowhere is private. And I can’t keep pretending that everything is fine.

Because it isn’t.

And I am not okay.

I don’t truly feel seen in my uneasiness, until Professor Marcus Williams comes to campus. I have zero desire to throw myself at the handsome professor, but he’s there as my “knight in shining armor” when I least expect it. I’m no damsel in distress. But he’s going to be the one to save me, even from the unnamed monster stepping out of the shadows.

I really wanted to love this book but it wasn’t for me. I signed up for an ARC of this book based on tropes alone and did not read book #1. Once this ARC hit my inbox, I read book #1 and didn’t love it. I went into this book optimistic since an author can experience a ton of growth between their debut and book 2. Overall, this authors writing style just isn’t for me. I don’t require a *ton* of detail to love a book but this one just felt like the writing was super rushed.

The characters in this book just felt very 2 dimensional. Ashley has more character than the FMC in book 1, but I wish we had more background on the characters to create depth.

The stalking plot also felt super flat too and it never really enraptured me. The romance went way too quick and it didn’t even start until far in the book. I had a ton of questions as to why the characters fell so hard so fast, why they were willing to give up careers, and why parents were ok with their sickly/traumatized child traveling with a stranger.

In conclusion, I hope I’m the outlier and the only reader with this opinion. Thank you to the author for the eARC of this book.

This book has a lot of moving parts as it spans roughly four years over the course of Ashley's college life. She goes through a lot, as most college people do... but her struggles are a bit more extreme than most. I loved seeing her work through them, and the representation of depression and Raynauds (which I have) was done well. The way each man in this book was written perfectly for their part shows the planning that Nikki Grant put into this. I'll absolutely be reading The Funnel to You and the other books in this series.

I received this as an ARC. These thoughts are my own.

I really enjoyed the growth in Ashley and the exploration that happened with this storyline. This novel took place over a much longer period of time than the first one, and I feel that that was necessary to give the correct amount of space to show the changes that happened in Ashley and her life.

I don’t however, fully understand the relationship with Marcus. It feels more like she attached to him because he saved her from the stalker rather than it being truly because of him.

As usual, the epilogue has me excited for the next book!

I gotta say, perhaps some of the best partner helping partner with trauma representation I’ve read- this book goes through many phases with many players but Professor Marcus is solid gold as a man I tell you!!! Also, the stalker is bad in this guys, stalkers aren’t always the hot guy in books (i learned this hahahh)! This is age gap romance, mental health rep, professor/ student and Ashley and Marcus are the cutest:)

ARC/Beta Read 😍

So I ADORED "The Funnel to You" and it's cozy vibes with a dash of dark romance tossed in on the side but I have to admit I LOVED THIS ONE MORE.

Ashley's story takes place over essentially her full college career and every featured character is so well developed! I ADORED Sam and was appropriately CREEPED OUT by *HIM* the whole time.

And in what is clearly now typical Nikki Grant fashion, the cozy vibes still remain STRONG in spite of all the suspense.

Can't wait for book 3!

After reading Book 1 and loving it I was so excited we were getting a book about Ashley’s story! This book is set before and during The Funnel To You when Ashley is starting to attend college and first meets and starts working with Sasha. You get a look inside Ashley’s life , her career goals and her college life. Her love life, and the dark and scary stalker moments throughout the book.

There was a lot of chapters and details during her time through college , I understand that it is needed for where the book brings us but personally I feel there were details that could’ve been skipped over to help support the plot more… I don’t remember much of these parts .. what assignments she had or what business requirements and what not Ashley had to do. The time frame over the book was years long and struggled to figure out the time setting. I found myself not as interested in the book during these scenes.

I enjoyed the characters in the book I thought Ashley was a sweet, strong and a hardworking girl, she is super supportive and a good friend, but also a little denial, forgetful. Sam is so sweet, smart and seems like a really hottie.. who wouldn’t love Clark Kent vibes ! Ashley’s family and friends were great characters too, very caring and supportive! I love Matt , her mom and Sasha. Professor Williams was also an amazing character ;) . Stalker was a good choice too.

Once I got 3/4 of my way through the book I started to get more interested when the stalker was becoming more and more creepy and it was becoming more obvious. I felt like things really started moving faster and getting together at this point. I was excited to see how the reveal would happen and the story after that point. These moments were the best part of the book. I do kinda wish the stalker was a bit harder to guess tho and not as obvious. Yes the stalker and end result could’ve been avoided many of times if Ashley wasn’t in denial about it but as Nikki wrote in the beginning of the book that these things happen in everyday life and are looked over so many times. That being said this part wasn’t an issue for me at all.

Marcus and Ashley … oh how I would’ve loved more time with them! If the stalker events and college would’ve happened way earlier in the book and leave the rest for them I would’ve loved it much more I think. I love them together, he is truly “the man for you” . I love Marcus and how patient and caring he is their love and the pearl necklace scene took me out and had me sobbing.

Overall , I liked this book, I enjoyed reading Ashley’s story and her journey. I recommend if you are wanting to continue the series and hear Ashley’s side. I am excited to continue on in the series. Thank you Nikki and BBPR for the ARC!

Ashley is a people pleasing pushover. She is also quite naive, but this makes sense for someone who's not even 20 years old yet and seems to have lived a comfortable life. It is odd that for someone who hasn’t had a sexual relationship, she sure is confident and knows a lot about it all.

I get that she's an influencer, but I don't need to read every post she makes. It doesn't contribute to the story.

The stalker could have been more... creepy or malicious when the audience hears from him, but he’s so uninteresting.

Sams POV was unnecessary; we get it, he likes her.
Marcus's POV could have added more to the storyline and did in some areas, but in others, it fell flat and were uninteresting.

There’s too much going on. Quite a bit of it could have been cut down, I got a bit bored by the 8th chapter.

There were too many POVs. If anything, this POV of Sam and the professor could have been cut and added more from the stalker or we could have just had the POV of Ashley and the professor.

I genuinely appreciate when authors add their TW in the novel, especially near the front. I do not want to have to hunt it down or go somewhere else.

I was so hopeful for this one, but it needed some self editing. I can tell the author loves this story because of all the details, but not all of it was needed. I was dragging myself through this to get to the end.

It's not a story for me. It had potential, but the writing style and the abundance of too many details made it so hard to read for me.

I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. 4.5 stars!

This is book 2 in a series but can be read as a stand-alone. Personally, I'm glad I read it after the first book as it did give me more insights into the characters.

This story focuses on Ashley. She's a young college student just starting her life! A chronic illness diagnosis and stalker put quite a damper on her college years and provide endless challenges for her to work through.

Another story I really enjoyed! I like how Nikki writes characters with real issues. While obviously some things are very storybook and 'happily ever after' like falling into the perfect career before finishing your degree and having a near-perfect relationship that easily overcomes challenges, there's a lot that IS real-life too. Ashley struggles with a chronic illness, anxiety, panic attacks, and a stalker. The way she feels and responds to the stalker situation is also very real; embarrassment, self blame, etc. Even with strong family relationships and excellent friends she feels alone and that she can't share these struggles. I'm not normally a fan of age-gap romances but did enjoy this one.

TW/CW for stalking, kidnapping, sexually explicit scenes, anxiety, panic attacks. A list is provided at the beginning of the book with pages/chapters to skip if needed.

Well, I did the one thing I said I wouldn’t do in 2025... I finished a book that I was not enjoying. I didn’t want to discard it so early on so I told myself that the book would get better as it went on… in my honest opinion, it did not.

To begin with I did not expect the FMC to be straight out of High School, I don’t remember seeing that mentioned when I signed up for this ARC. This book had too much going on but I got bored very early on. I also feel like the “posts” at the beginning of every chapter were very unnecessary, but that’s just me. I did not get to read the first book (to my knowledge this could be read as a standalone) and after reading this one I will not be going back to read the first. This was a miss with me.

🖤⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 so rounded up

I recommend reading book 1 The Funnel To You because this book is set in the same timeline and some conversations overlap.

So this is still classified as ‘soft dark romance’ I wouldn’t say it’s say romance but maybe some dark themes with the stalking and lady napping. This would be a great beginner dark romance read.

Here we follow Ashely, 19ish, as she is starting her college journey. This book does cover the 4 years she is at university hence the “ish” lol. She is an active influencer and is looking to grow that and hoping school will help. While at school she develops a stalker and not the good kind. She also develops some new health concerns and is trying to navigate this new chapter in life while ‘being an adult’ and thinking she can handle everything on her own.

Insert Professor Marcus Williams, 35is, he transfers to Colorado from a university Scotland and instantly there is something about Ashely that he likes. It isn’t until she ends up at his doorstep that something takes root. He is extremely patient with her through her trauma.

Now I felt like something’s were flat in this book. The breakup between Ashely and Sam (her first bf) was missing something. It was just like he was gone.

The Man For You is book 2 in the Make-up and Mochas series and follows Ashley’s story, Matt’s younger sister from book 1, The Funnel To You. This can be read as a standalone.

Ashley is an up and coming influencer and plans to study business in college. We get to follow along as she meets Sam at freshman orientation, navigates her college classes and struggles with her health. Sam is the perfect boyfriend and he loves and adores Ashley so much. Their relationship is practically perfect. However school and life does get in the way. Crazy enough, the story is not about Sam.
Ashley had a stalker who is completely relentless and throughout book I was trying to figure out who it was. Nikki Grant did such a great job writing these scenes. I was on the edge of my seat and trying to decipher the clues as I went along.

The ending was a tad rushed for me as it spanned the course of a year and I wanted to see more of Marcus and Ashley together. But, it was still an edge of my seat, cannot put down read that I absolutely loved.

The Man For You tackles a lot of issues from stress and anxiety to autoimmune diseases and stalking and kidnapping.

✨✨This book was originally sent to me as an ARC✨✨

I went straight from Book 1 into Book 2 because I didn't want to miss a beat of Ashley's story. It felt that both books did indeed go hand in hand, so I suggest reading Book 1 before attempting Book 2. This book was also slightly darker than Book 1, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I never had a book that had me get up from my reading spot and pace the floor while reading because of what was going on in the book and never had I yelled at a book over what I just read. This book had me doing both several times, especially when "Him" got introduced (which I had a good feeling who "He" was and it was confirmed later on because again, screaming). Also, side note: I appreciated the Auto Immune Disease rep. I also have Reynauds and struggle with keeping myself warm most days (my feet get affected the worst) and loved to see it represented with Ashley.

I'm also a sucker for Age Gap romances and getting to read Ashley and Marcus falling in love with one another (and the fact that shes 19 and he's 35) was just the icing on top of the cake for me.

I really really enjoyed this book and can't wait for Book 3 to come out!

I got this as an ARC but all opinions are my own. *Mild spoilers* Okay I absolutely LOVED this. Ashley is such a sweet girl and she goes through so much in this book omgg. Sam was absolutely precious and the thing with the gloves had me like 🥹🥹🥹 I’ll be honest when Marcus was first introduced I was like who is this guy and I really did not like him at all but after the really bad thing happens I was like oh maybe he’s alright and by the end of the book I absolutely loved him to pieces. I had guessed who the stalker was but I really didn’t expect him to go that far.

The representations of depression and anxiety in this were so poignant and I think mental health representation is so important in novels.

If you’re not into reading about social media and stuff like that this might not be the book for you but I think it really added to the story and to the character development and it’s a very pivotal plot device.

The spice in this is minimal in quantity but absolute MAXIMUM quality. I definitely look forward to reading Kylie’s story in the future.

Book 2 success!

This book did some things very well. Nikki can do suspense and thrill! I wasn't aware. It really had me creaped out and on edge. She also handled depression and anxiety so beautifully. It was very deep and thoughtful, and I felt an accurate representation of these heavy and isolating emotions. It's beautiful to see the writing growth so far. A few things that weren't for me...I struggle feeling any kind of romance or spice about an adult who still lives at home. It feels too young for me, and then to have such adult relationships just feels cringe to me. The romance needs a little work because those parts just come of come in like an afterthought. It picked up so much towards the end of the book that I wish we had more of that earlier on. We spent 75% just kind of rushing through the mundane years like going through the motions (and time felt like weeks to me instead of months and years) and then it got so exciting, and thrilling, and hot, and then bam, over! But man...that last 25% was a fun ride!

The Man for You by Nikki Grant
Format: eBook (ARC)
Finished: 1/26/2025
Rating: 4 / 5

I enjoyed this book. This was the first book I have read from this author and I would absolutely read more.
The Man for Me has dark elements but isn't super dark. If you're looking to get into books with darker themes but aren't ready to get into the deep end, this is a perfect book to start with.

Ashley is starting college and this book spans her whole college years. There were places I would have liked a little more details and I was a bit confused with the time jump, but overall everything was well laid out. Ashley is trying to navigate college, new love and being an aspiring influencer when a stalker comes into her life. There were parts I loved, like how Ashley works through her health issues and how releatable parts of her life were and I liked most of this book, there were parts that I felt were a bit glossed over or rushed. Overall though, this was an easy read and a perfect cozy mildly dark romance, perfect for those that like dark romance lite.

Thank you to Nikki Grant and Naughty Nook PR for the opportunity to read and review this book!

Holy cow. So...

I loved The Funnel to You, but I REALLY loved this second installment in the Makeup and Mochas series. This series has me in a chokehold!! I was a little surprised to see this one come with some trigger warnings, but I also appreciate them and after reading the story, I can see why they would be needed. Without giving anything away, I can say that I saw a big part of what happened coming...specifically who "he" was. However, Nikki got me with the way this story ended for Ashley. I DID NOT see that coming, and honestly, I'm glad I didn't, as it made it that much more wholesome and fun for me. I was super happy to see a lesser-known condition called Raynaud’s represented in this book! As someone who suffers from it, it was really cool to see. Staying true to her previous book, Nikki left me dying for the next book with her epilogue, and now I need to read book three immediately!!

This was interesting and definitely different than anything I’ve read. You think it’s a college romance between two students but then there’s a stalker and suspense and it’s all about her and her mental health and then there are hot professors. This will keep you on your toes with a plot twist and multiple POV’s between more than just the fmc and mmc. It’s mostly about Ashley and her journey throughout college, her social media pages, relationships and family and career. If it didn’t say whose story this was about in title header I would have thought the mmc was someone else.

I enjoyed this and liked that it started one way, went another way, and ended completely in another way…. If that makes sense. But I really liked that this felt more like a real persons life because the conversations are what real people would have. It’s a lot of day to day with some time jumps.

Definitely different, but enjoyable.

When I first started this story, I was a bit confused because I didn’t realize it takes place before her brother meets the main character from the first book. However, once I got into it, I really appreciated the unique perspective it brings.

This book has a very different feel from the first one, and Nikki does an excellent job highlighting how, even if people are doing similar things online, the kind of energy they attract—and the challenges they face—can be vastly different. Compared to book one, this story carries a much darker tone, diving into deeper struggles behind the scenes.

I love how the author explores the hidden battles these women face, even as they interact with one another. If you had only seen Ashley from book one’s perspective, you would have never realized something more sinister was happening to her. This added depth makes the story even more compelling, and I can’t wait to see where it goes next!

This second week of the book tour and we have The Man For You where we get to dive into Ashley’s story. This girl. Throughout the entire book, I was completely hooked and on the edge of my seat. Seeing how Ash handled everything that came her way, while trying to keep things as “normal” as possible, made my heart hurt for her a bit I’m not gonna lie.

I really enjoyed getting to see Ashley’s point of view from some of the things we discovered in The Funnel To You and all of the new events in The Man For You.

I loved that Ashley and Sasha stayed close and that you got to see a bit more into the Pink Every Day campaign as well as some of the things Ashley needed to do for her school work too.
I don’t want to spoil anything but I will say, I felt incredibly smart when I guess who *he* was and I was over the moon to discover who was end game.
Definitely read the triggers for this one if you aren’t looking for a darker story line though.

This book is fenomenal 😍 Ashley and Sam’s relationship is so adorable 🥰 even if he chose his career over her. He was there for her, but he still thought that they should focus on their careers. Then Marcus enter and OMG 😍 You just know that the chemistry was there. He helps her through her depression and he accepts that she has problems with mental health and he never pushes her. He gives her options and ask her what she wants and can muster. ❤️

I’m a little disappointed that Sam didn’t ”fight” more to still be Ashley’s boyfriend, but I get the impression that they knew that they would have a friendship relationship and that their relationship never would have become more.

I liked that you didn’t know who ”him” was and that you got som options on who ”him” was.

One thing that I thought was a little minus was that you got to read some things that you read in ”The funnel to you”.

But besides from that I highly recommend you to read this book 📕 And I give it 4,5 ⭐️

Overall I really enjoyed this book! I liked that the story spanned Ashley’s college career. I also liked the thrill and mystery of the stalking plot of the book.

I felt left with lots of questions though. How did they fall in love so quickly? How were her parents perfectly fine with letting Ashley go off with her professor? What happened with Sam? I felt like there were some loose ends and opened ended parts of the plot that I would have liked more closure with.

I appreciated all of the trigger warnings and how the traumatic parts of the book were written. I also loved to see a character written in a way that shows the support needed for said trauma. I thought Marcus was spot on with it.

I will definitely be waiting to read the next 2 books in this series!

Thank you to Nikki Grant for allowing me to read this ARC. I look forward to reading more!

This is Ashley story and we follow her though her college life. She is happy and a social media make up queen. She meets Sam at orientation and they become friends that leads to more.

Ashley also has a stalker someone that is watching everything she does. He feels she belongs to him. And through the story we see him escalate. We also get to see Ashley love through medical challenges that was to mental health struggles.

As Ashley grows her relationships change and who she feels in love with might not be who she ends up with. Great read. Also if you read book one this book goes and back and connects to book 1 as it moves forward.

The Man for You by Nikki Grant is an absolute gem! From the very first page, I was completely drawn into this heartwarming, emotional story. Grant has a beautiful way of blending humor, tenderness, and just the right touch of nostalgia. The characters felt so real — especially the depiction of the relationship with "Nan," which was touching, genuine, and at times made me both laugh and cry.

The writing is engaging and flows so naturally that I found myself devouring the book in one sitting. It's a story about love, family, loss, and healing — all wrapped up with warmth and wisdom. Nikki Grant truly captures the magic of those special relationships that shape our lives.

This book left me feeling comforted and grateful. If you're looking for a novel that will stay with you long after you turn the last page, The Man for You is a must-read. I can’t recommend it highly enough!

In this book, the focus is on Ashley as she starts her studies in college and embrace this new phase in her life. We also get to see Sasha and Matt, the main characters from the first book in the series.

As I have read the earlier book, it felt slightly repetitive to read through again similar scenes, as the timelines do overlap. Do note that if you are expecting a romance vibe from this book, you will find it lacking in about three quarters of the book as it focuses more on Ashley being stalked by someone close to her. To be honest, I was able to predict the “bad guy” quite early on and what he did was totally scary.

The last act was good though, and I loved how Marcus was a safe and steady support for her as she recovered from the traumatic incidents. He is an amazing gift-giver, but the best gift he gave her was his time.

Nikki Grant's novel, The Man for You, offers a deeply resonant exploration of a young woman's journey through the trials of college life, personal growth, and unexpected romance. One of the most compelling aspects of the novel is the strong network of friends and family surrounding Ashley. Her brother Matt plays a crucial role in providing her with a sense of security while respecting her autonomy. Grant does not shy away from addressing serious issues such as depression and Raynaud's Syndrome. While the novel features minimal "spice," the quality of these romantic moments is profound. The Man for You is a must-read for anyone seeking a deeper understanding of the complexities of young adulthood. Whether you're a fan of romance or suspense, this book is sure to captivate and inspire.

This is just another great book by Nikki Grant. I have been thoroughly enjoying this series of books.

So in this book we're following ashley through her college years. She's dealing with a lot personally in terms of her mental health and her physical health. Now throw a stalker into the mix and you've got a whole new ball of chaos waiting for you.

I absolutely appreciate the writing style when it came to ashley dealing with her stalker. As someone who has been stalked by someone in their life, I can tell you that the emotions and things that she felt were absolutely honest and real.

There were a few writing things I think that could personally be changed to enhance the book but the overall story was phenomenal. This is another solid four out of five stars.

Thrilling, suspenseful, sexy, and fun! This story takes you on a full adventure with your emotions. The FMC Ashley deals with newly diagnosed chronic health conditions, all while expanding her social media account, and starting college. The story covers several topics like depression, self doubt, and isolation that comes from dealing with unwanted advances from a stalker. Nikki Grant does an amazing job at conveying the complexities of the situation, and bringing awareness to the dark reality that too many women experience at some point in their lives. Ashley's story shows that there can be hope, healing, and happiness found through the darkest parts of our lives.

This was such a fun book to read. This is a dual POV, fast paced story that follows Ashley and Marcus.

Ashley is a college student who is also an influencer. She starts to get messages from an unknown number who is obsessed with her. Now, my dark romance girlies: this is not a dark romance book, it just has some dark themes. I don't want this to confuse you lol. But I do still recommend this book to every kind of romance reader, just make sure to check those trigger warnings.

This is my first ARC of the year and I'm glad I was able to kick it off so strong. Thank you to the author for the eARC opportunity in exchange for my honest review.

A heart-wrenching tale with a wonderful HEA. Ashley is bright, bubbly, and outgoing, until a stalker invades her life and her self-esteem. Pair that with a health diagnosis, and she loses who she is. But there is one man there for her. To be by her side, to be understanding and patient, and to help her flourish again.
Check your trigger warnings as there are some heavy subjects covered. But I love how Nikki highlights mental issues and makes them not something to be ashamed or embarrassed about, but something to be understood and helped with.
