Menulis kolom perjalanan disalah satu koran New York adalah impian Kate Bogart.
I picked this up because when I read that the main character was a travel writer I thought there would be some great descriptions of the fabulous places she visited...but it was almost all about relationships (and her cat, which I dont mind reading about because I'm a cat lover, but if you hated them, you would probably find it excessive).
Bottom line - there is much better chick lit out there dealing with traveling and relationships.
This book is written entirely in emails, from Kate Bogart, a travel writers, to her mother, best friend, boss, ex-husband, and a war correspondent. Kate is mad for the Portugese bull fighter she met on assignment in Lisbon. But when he starts to follow her from city to city, she's had enough. Her boss introduces her to Maxwell, a British war correspondant who wants to enter the safer field of travel writing. Soon Kate is balancing simultaneous affairs with Maxwell and her ex-husband Jack, who has re=entered her life.
Lifht-hearted comedy featuring a young woman who isn't sure about who she wants to spend her life with, but knows she doesn't want to spend it in one place.
A modern-day epistolary novel, written entirely in email messages, this book is a fun beach read. It's a light, entertaining story about a young woman who is a travel writer, hopping from place to place by plane, and hopping from one relationship escapade to another, until the end of the book, where there's a happy ending.
Thankfully, the writer left the sexual encounters to the readers' imagination, so I am happy to say this is not a "bodice-ripper," nor is it full of repetitive descriptions of lovers' physiques.

I got this book for free after purchasing a magazine over 10 years ago. Its been on a shelf ever since. Since I’m on a “finish everything you own before decluttering phase” I thought I’ll give it a try. It has an interesting way to write a story but the characters seem one dimensional, the books is only about her relationships and doesn’t include anything about the places she’s visiting. It does include a few funny moments and is an easy read so it’s not a total waste of time.
This book is written in email type form. Catherine (Kate)Bogart is a travel reporter traveling all over Europe and free. Violet Morgan is her friend and taking care of her cat Truman Capote. Gamblin Rose is her mother. Jack MacTavish is her ex-husband. Manowar is Miles Maxwell an English journalist, was introduced to Catherine by Ted Concannon editor, her boss. Jack and Miles are both vying for Kate’s love. This book is about the relationships with her ex-husband another lover her editor and her mother all intertwined. And also the fact that she loses her cat for a day and finds him. Miles and Jack climb mount rainier to be later rescued and miles gets arrested during a story about marijuana. Finally at the end Kate ends up with her true love.

Loved it! Hilarious, smart, funny, relaxing, original, clever. Not too deep, either, so it's perfect mind candy. Which I've binged on a couple of times.
New York, rubrik “Wish You Were Here”.
If ever I am forced to put down my red pen and venture beyond the safety of my chair and the confines of my office, I hope it’s because I’ve been given the opportunity to take on a job like Katie Bogart’s. I’ve always been interested in travel and I’ve always loved writing, so what could be more fun than being a travel writer?
Of course, it’s more difficult than it seems. Katie leads quite a hectic life, and I’m not sure I’d be able to keep up with such a fast-paced lifestyle -- not to mention all her adventures! In case the title isn’t descriptive enough for you, here’s a little info on Bogie, our Wanderlust guide. She’s dated gondoliers and matadors, her ex-husband and an ex-war reporter. She wanders from Spain to Rome to London to Paris to Amsterdam to various cities across the United States writing a budget-conscious travel column for the financially lacking, and throughout her journeys, keeps in touch with her gambling mother (who is more progressive than most), best friend (whose husband, Shane, leads a band called The Killer Abs), editor (and sometimes roommate and prospective stepfather), ex-hubby (who has the spelling abilities of a high school football player – and apparently the looks to match), and lover (who has the spelling capabilities of a stuffy college professor – and apparently the looks to match) all via e-mail.
The book is broken into geographical chapters and is told through the previously mentioned electronic correspondence, all of which is highly entertaining and easily digestible, though the story itself is rather predictable. E-mail is definitely the perfect medium to tell the story of a modern working woman -- and though I envy the sights she’s seen, I am glad I don’t have to pencil in face time with those who mean the most to me. Wanderlust indeed!
Kate Bogart writes a travel column for a New York newspaper and loves the adventure of it all. She has a good relationship with her ex-husband Jack and her editor introduces her to Miles Maxwell, a British soldier gone writer. Things start spinning out of control as Jack and Miles both vie for her affection, her mother begins dating her editor and her best friend Violet goes on tour with her husband's band, leaving Kate scrambling for a care-taker for her beloved cat Turman (as in Capote). Kate must ultimately decide between the two men.
The book is entirely comprised of email messages back and forth between Kate and the various players. The concept is unique and well-edited so that the reader isn't bored or getting duplicative information. It also allows a sense of insight into each character's take on a situation that would be missing in a narrative format. The twist with Miles and his ex is predictable, but not the twist with the ex and Jack. Vi and her husband were not used well enough and under-developed as a whole.
Overall, an excellent plot, wonderful style of writing and easy to red when commuting to and from work.
obviously, we all knew who she was going to choose, so no surprise ending there. what i dislike about this book is the LACK of passion. yes, we know they had sex but it was hard to FEEL the passion. the ending was beyond BORING (i think i've seen the movie 8 times, so why put it in a book).
overall, the book lackluster. it might have been better without email and without the 'other guy' (or main guy, depending on how you look at it) being the ex-husband. i mean, who the hell was buying that! it would've been better with the sexy bullfighter! ugh.
the main character seems shallow as hell, and so does this book. but i have get three stars because there were some funny moments, and i like to laugh, and because it kept me in enough suspense that i HAD to see the ending for myself, though i already knew how it would end. basically, i finished and i laughed, so that's 3 stars' worth.
This novel isn't the deepest, or most profound, but sometimes what you need is an entertaining, low maintenance book to enjoy and use to clear your head. Wanderlust is that book. It's written in email format (not terribly convincingly, but I'll buy it for the sake of the plot line) and chapters are divided by cities, so there's a decent amount of continuity there. It's a great car ride and air travel book, but I'm content to snuggle under my blanket before bed and dream about all the places I haven't made it to yet while tucking into Dyer's novel.
But Kate Bogart, a travel journalist, none of the aboves. She's witty, fun, cool, and very secure.
Bener2 ceweeee....bangets.
This book is written in emails between the characters. Kate Bogart is a travel journalist. She loves traveling, her cat Truman, and trapped between her handsome ex-husband and a British travel journalist friend named Miles Maxwell. She also has a great best friend, mom, and editor who always support her. In the end, she chooses the British journalist just like I expected. I prefer him to her ex-husband because you can really feel his respectful and elegant style but still friendly and charming. This is a very thin chick lit, you'll finish it in no time.
In this age of text messages, tweets and status updates, incredibly it seems kind of quaint to read a book comprised entirely of e-mails. Ranging from lengthy and serious to short and witty, this construct actually worked for me even though I was sure I wouldn't like it. While the book overall is airy and light, the subject matter is somewhat deep: What do you REALLY want out of life and how do you get there?
Perfect escapist fun that will make you think about your life a little bit (totally makes me want to be a travel writer...)
273 pages is way to long to rely on a gimmick. Had this been a short story or short novel it may have been charming. After 100 pages, I really wore thin of the emails and started to notice how unlike real life the exchanges were. Why didn't these people ever pick up a phone? The main character was so self absorbed and had very little interest in her other thoughts. Everything started to feel very one dimensional.
I do give credit that the first 100 pages had some charm and wit. Had it not, I might not have gone that far.
Kate is a travel writer with two men in love with her. Here's what didn't work for me, if everyone in a book loves the lead character I feel like I should be able to understand why.
I didn't really like Kate. I don't understand why these two men were both in love with her.
I thought the format was cute, it was written entirely in emails. But everyone in this book is Kate's biggest fan and she's just too flakey.
There's not really anything about her writing in the story either. It's basically a story about her using her ability to travel to straighten out her love life.
The plot of this book is a bit contrived, I mean you don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out who the main character is going to end up with but it was mildly entertaining. It was an interesting format...the entire book was done in emails between characters. That is either a fairly genius way of writing or a total cop out and a way of covering up a total lack of ability...I'm still not sure which way I am leaning on that.
This book is written entirely in e-mails between the characters. I thought this would be a cumbersome, boring way to read a book, but really it was intriguing in a naughty, I-shouldn't-get-to-read-other-people's-emails kind of way. Kate Bogart, our protagonist, is a travel writer who is constantly on the go, and winds up finding herself ensnared in a passionate relationship with both her ex-husband and a fellow travel writer. Dishy and fun, and recommended as a GOOD-stupid read.
The writing is fun and I like a good epistolary novel (e-mails in this case). However, Kate Bogart in real life would be one of those women whom men left and right fall in love with for no goddamn reason at all. I don't get it. I know I'm supposed to find her fiercely independent and glamorous but she comes across as selfish, flighty, and self-absorbed. And I really loathe people like that.
Jack and Miles should have went gay for each other.
This is a new to me author and after reading this book, I will definitely be on the lookout for more by this author. This book follows the life and travels of a writer who writes travel articles for a magazine. The book is written completely in email format, which I enjoyed and follows our frequent flyer, Kate Bogart (affectionately known as Bogie by her close friends) as she traipses all over the world finding romance. I recommend this book.
