Buffalito Buffet

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY: "Schoen is clearly in his element and there's a pleasant preposterousness to the whole thing, like a series of good-natured tall tales..." For years, Lawrence M. Schoen has been producing stories about the ever more popular Amazing Conroy and his companion, a buffalito named Reggie. Here we present a collection of those stories, including Nebula Award nominated novella, "Barry's Tale," which adds to the adventures of the hypnotist-turned-business-owner as he and Reggie travel the known universe, as well as beyond Human Space. Buffalitos are alien creatures that look like miniature bison and can consume anything. Their only waste product is oxygen. Which makes for limitless possibilities.

Lawrence M. Schoen holds a Ph.D. in cognitive psychology, is a past Astounding, Hugo, and Nebula, nominee, twice won the Cóyotl award for best novel, founded the Klingon Language Institute, and occasionally does work as a hypnotherapist specializing in authors’ issues. He is a chimeric cancer survivor.

His science fiction includes many light and humorous adventures of a space-faring stage hypnotist and his alien animal companion. Other works take a very different tone, exploring aspects of determinism and free will, generally redefining the continua between life and death. Sometimes he blurs the funny and the serious. Lawrence lives near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with his wife and their dog.

Buffalito Buffet by Lawrence M. Schoen

My latest book, Buffalito Buffet, is a collection of six previously published short stories, one novelette, and a novella ("Barry's Tale") which I wrote just for this collection. If you've read my previous novels you already know this is a book about the Amazing Conroy and his alien companion animal, Reggie.

If you're not acquainted with these characters, it's an ideal place to start! The stories run in chronological order, introducing you the near-future stage hypnotist and the creatures that look like tiny, cute bison but can eat anything and fart oxygen. Throughout all the stories my goal is to present a light and amusing tone, a fun read, with closure at the end of each piece.

Also included in this collection are introductory notes, giving some context to how each story came to be written and (allegedly) providing some insights into my author's mind.

Enjoy.

No talking cats or rodents. There are little buffalo looking things that eat anything and fart oxygen. The narrator is a stage hypnotists who uses his hypnotism to fight ESP and corner the market on buffalitoes.

It's light reading, so I read all the stories, but it wasn't the heavier science fiction or fantasy that I normally like.

A collection of stories about The Amazing Conroy and his charming buffalito dog, Reggie, including how he got the delightful and valuable creature. Prequels lovingly gathered in one volume for those of us, like me, who missed these gems in their original publications.
