This book is part of Zoe Leonard and Cheryl Dunye's film project "The Watermelon Woman" (1996) for the Whitney Biennial. The staged photos used as documentation for the film are presented here as an intimate photo album.
This book is a character study for a fictional black lesbian actress featured in a collaboration/film project by Cheryl Dunye with photographer Zoe Leonard. I was cataloging this for the MCA research library which has several books by Leonard. The photos are very convincing. Fae Richards is in photos playing a housekeeper in films, old Hollywood style glamour shots, and some staged intimate photos with lovers and friends. It does a lot to bring Fae Richards to life, and there are detailed, enumerated notes that make the character's backstory more evident too.
