Carmen: Hus of Bovaria

Rate this book
Would you volunteer to save a dying race?

The population of the planet Bovaria is in danger of extinction and needs to breed with transformed humans, known as hus.
Almost every hu loses their cognition during the transformation process, but in compensation, they live a simple life centred around physical satisfaction.
Carmen dedicated her life to helping others, but everything went wrong, and she desperately needed to forget her past.

Transformation into a hucow should have been the perfect solution for Carmen.
But things rarely turn out as expected.

Instead, Carmen's cognition is returning, she's plagued by torturous hints from her past, M'Rin – the irresistible boss of Resbis Breeding Facility – has taken a special interest in her, there is something sinister about the bosses sister, and she has to come to grips with the fact that she's signed away all rights to her body.
Her function as a hucow is to be bred, and to produce prized milk that improves the Bovarian's fertility with hus.
Life as a hucow should have been simple, but it seems that everyone has plans for her.

Can Carmen make peace with her new life? Can she find satisfaction in her new reality? Or will she lose everything all over again?

Carmen is the first instalment of the Hus of Bovaria series. It is a high heat, bright kink, sci-fi, MF, hucow erotic romance story that involves humans being transformed into cow-like alien hybrids and used for breeding purposes.

This was a super strange read. It sounded really intriguing and definitely strange, and with it being a short read, I decided to give it a go. It was interesting. It was described as a bright, erotic read, and it was. This book wasn't necessarily for me, but I appreciate the creativity.

Thank you BookSirens for giving me the opportunity to read this ebook.

Carmen: Hus of Bovaira is a short, erotic sci-fi read and the first installment in its series. The premise is simple: on a planet called Bovaria, a population crisis has led to a radical solution. Humans who volunteer to help are genetically modified into hucows—human/cow hybrids—so they can assist in repopulation efforts.

Carmen, the FMC, leaves her life behind in the wake of a personal tragedy and accepts the transformation. As her body changes, she drifts in and out of lucidity, struggling with a shattered memory and an overwhelming desire to forget it all.

M'Rin, the MMC, is one of the bosses at Resbis Breeding Facility, a top-tier farm for transforming humans, which has taken a special interest in cognizant hucows. While dedicated to his work, he longs for love and a family of his own.

How did I find this series? Through a lot of searching and access to ARCs! I read a lot, and when you read a lot, you find some truly off-the-wall options. I will not be taking questions at this time. 😌

That said, I’m not in the business of yucking anyone else’s yum, and while this one isn’t my yum, I won’t fault it for that. It’s straightforward, to the point, and well-written, especially considering the premise. My only real gripe? I wish it had been longer. I wanted more details about Bovarian society (is that even what they’re called?), how the population crisis started, and—most importantly—to see Carmen reclaim more of herself.

Four stars. I will be reading the next one IMMEDIATELY. Don’t judge me.

I love hucow stories and I especially love when they are treated well. It hasn't been common in the genre until fairly recently and I love that stories like this are making more of an appearance. This was a sweet read.

Carmen (Hus of Bovaria book 1) by Sam Aaxle

Carmen Saunders has lost everything she holds dear to herself. She decides to go away to another place and become a Hus to help save the Bovaria race. They are not the same as humans so she has to go through a process to make her able to carry M*Rin's child. This story has many twists and turns to it. I found it very interesting and I am amazed at how Sam Aaxle came up with the story. If you want something very different than you have read before I highly recommend this story. This book was very intriguing and something different from anything I've read before. I found myself being able to relate to Carmen a lot throughout this story, even though she becomes a "cow-like alien hybrid". I can definitely see the appeal of wanting to live a simpler life where you just follow a daily routine and someone else gives you guidelines. I feel like that would eliminate so much stress, anxiety, and constant worrying that people experience all the time. While this might not be the book for everyone and I wish it was just a little bit longer, I would definitely recommend giving it a chance and maybe reading something different that takes you out of your comfort zone. I think it was worth it for me, and I am looking forward to the next book!

I was given the chance to read an advanced copy of this book for free and am voluntarily sharing my honest review of it.

Carmen by Sam Aaxle was an odd read to say the least. This Sci-fi erotic novella takes place on the planet Bovaria where humans get transformed into hucows for breeding to save the dying Bovarian race.
I've read a lot of odd stories in my life, this one is probably the only one I actually finished!
I felt the book was very well written and thought out. The plot was captivating and the characters were intriguing. I especially enjoyed reading about H'Nue and how well he is with Carmen and M'Rin. I hope he can get his HEA eventually.
It states there's a guaranteed HEA, however, I wasn't fully satisfied with how it ended because I wanted more! I would go into details with all the questions I have, but I don't want to spoil all the fun!
I hope Aaxle writes more about Bovaria and hucows.

Remember: always read trigger warnings before proceeding!

Happy reading!

This is dual POV between Carmen (a human turned hucow) and M'Rin (a Bovarian). This story is set in a world where Bovarians are having trouble procreating and humans have become volunteers to transform into hucows to help with breeding. Carmen created an agreement that only under extreme emotional duress will she volunteer to become a hucow. Some of the side effects would be lack of cognition when transformed in exchange for bliss. In the midst of her transformation though, her cognition starts to return but not all of her memories do. M'Rin always wanted to have a cognitive hucow to have as his partner, so he becomes instantly obsessed with Carmen.

This was the first hucow story I've ever read and it was surprisingly pleasant. H'Nue, one of the caretakers is a fucking sweetheart. You can tell he cares so deeply for the people and his job. He takes extreme measures to care for Carmen, especially when he realizes how much of her cognitive function has returned. He is also exceptionally intuitive. M'Rin is also just wonderfully amazing. His deep need for consent is refreshing. He cares for Carmen and ultimately wants to make sure she gets what she wants out of life not force her into his dreams. His caring nature and deep feelings can be felt through the page.

Carmen, man, she's gone through a lot. What happened in her past sucks and even through all of it and her transformation, she is such a strong person. She also has amazing self preservating instincts.

It was so interesting to read her transformation from oblivion to cognitive to fighter. It was even more intriguing to see it all from two different perspectives. Once M'Rinna came into the story, though, the mystery felt a bit obvious so there wasn't a real shock into the plot twist. But even with that, this story was pretty entertaining.

This low key has a plot and was good? the fmc was mute and the back story that unfolded throughout the story was really interesting. I would read this author again.

Official review:

Hucow books are very hit and miss. This one was definitely a hit. It had a backstory, which is unusual for this genre. I really liked this one. I felt like the characters weren’t very emotional but the story made up for it. I received a copy for free and reviewing voluntarily.

This book was so strange but unputdownable. It’s my first time reading a sci fi romance with these types of outcomes. I don’t want to give much away but our MF decided to give her body up for science and slowly turns into another species while taking meds that slowly do the job for you. The MM who works and owns the farm starts noticing things he likes about her and starts to get strong feelings. When I tell you my mouth dropped on more than one occasion 😂 the spice was out of this world, LITERALLY. I tried picturing the scenes in my head, especially the transforming of the human bodies. It was giving slow burn animorphs. I actually enjoyed the read, I also loved the plot twist with a certain evil character and the motives behind their actions. I would def recommend if you’re into stepping out of the norm box. I would read another one of these books 📕 the world building was also pretty cool. I give it 3 1/2 stars.

I really liked this one. Although the hucow thing isn’t really a kink of mine, I find the stories fascinating! From the background stories to the transformations to all the other details!

The thing I loved about this book is how the hus were treated with respect. They want the hus to be cognizant and full members of the community. They have rights as citizens and protections against abuse. You don’t see that in many of these.

I liked the story a lot. The dual pov is excellent. The characters are likable and the amount of suspense in the story was just right!

I would recommend this one!

The premise, the plot, the character development, everything about this book was addictive.

From the description, I was intrigued by the unusual universe this author created and right from the first page I was hooked.

Hours after finishing this story in one sitting, I still could not get Carmen and M’Rin nor the Human Bovarian Hybrid Transformation Agreement out of my mind.

This is possibly one of the best novellas I have read.

The writing and story was well executed and never felt rushed, the author did an excellent job of showing rather than telling, and the connection between Carmen and M’Rin felt honest and genuine.

I loved the care and compassion H’Nue and M’Rin showed Carmen and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series! I can only hope there will be more of H’Nue and maybe F’Nor in future books.

This was a very odd read, and I mean that in the best of ways. I had never read anything quite like this so it got my attention straight away and read the entire book in 1 sitting.

I love this world and situation that the author has created and I’m very much looking forward to what’s next!

I loved the mystery part and was very pleasantly surprised by the huge plot twist.

The epilogue was amazing too so be sure not to skip that (I know some readers do skip the epilogues) !

Can’t wait for the next book in this series!

Having a couple of extra hours, I accepted a copy of this book.

Ummm… I should've turned left in Albuquerque! I was not expecting what I read, here. After the second chapter, I was actually afraid to continue, and left the rest for the next day. I was not expecting the transformation to a hucow to include the growing of a pelt or widening of a nose. I had some difficulty reconciling with that. Once I did, the story really wasn't that bad. It just definitely was not my cup of tea.

An absolutely adorable monster romance. The coziest most romantic story of a girl who signs away her cognition to become a breeding cow- but wakes up and can still remember her past life anyway. The story followers her transformation into a hucow and her caretakers' struggle with learning to communicate with someone who can't talk. There's a happy ever after, though. ♡

WHAT DID I JUST READ?! Seriously, WTF. My first foray into hucow (human cow) romance, and honestly? I couldn’t put it down. Wild doesn’t even begin to cover it. Sam Aaxle (an Aussie author!) took me on a bullride I didn’t know I was signing up for, and I kinda loved it.

This short novella dives into the world of Carmen, a human turned hucow, and M’Rin, her Bovarian admirer. Carmen agreed to the transformation after traumatic circumstances, seeking blissful oblivion to escape her past, but her cognition starts returning—and with it, fragments of her painful memories.

The spice? Out of this world. (Literally.) And while the concept of hucows is, um, unconventional, the depth of care from M’Rin and the absolute sweetheart H’Nue gave this story a surprising amount of heart. Also, M’Rin’s obsession with consent? Loved that for him.

Sure, the plot twist wasn’t shocking, but the journey there was entertaining as hell. The mix of high heat, sci-fi weirdness, and emotional layers made this such a unique read. If you’re looking to step way outside the norm box, this one’s for you.

I saw something strange again, so of course I had to read it.

Let me tell you, I think I have only read one other book about hucows and that one traumatised me, mainly due to the non/dub-con that was going around in there and because the mc was a literal pet without any autonomy. I don't think I even finished it, or if I did I cannot remember the ending.

What could have possibly possessed me to read another hucow book you ask? Truly, I'm not sure. Curiosity most likely. BUT this was such a breath of fresh air compared to the other story. Very low on angst, short but well-written and there was even something of a plot! Plus it was very steamy. The physical change of the FL was something else, but I tried not to think too much about it and in the end it was altogether pretty cute. I believe I would read another one of these books.

Well done author!

This is such an interesting story!!!
Not gonna lie still a little bit confused by how the Bovarian moves around but over all this is definitely a new read!

I've read some Hucow with breeding facilities themes and most of them are on the darker spectrum!
So this is such an interesting story line!!
It's so sweet and kinky and spicy for sure!!

I kinda was a hopping alot more handling between the FMC and the MMC rather than with the original Handler, it kinda rubs me in a different spot
BUUT i the handler is still sweet nonetheless!

Overall this is a good "beginner friendly" to the world of Hucow!

Book Contains:
- Hucow x Bovarian
- Transformation
- Milking
- Breeding Facility
- Light Lactation Kink
- Mention of Parental Death
- Drugging

🍑 HAPPY READING!!!! 🍑

Carmen is so different to the hucow stories I've read before, in the best possible way! Set in an intriguing future world, this is fast-paced, spicy, and emotional. Though the story deals with some heavy themes, the romance between Carmen and M'Rin is full of respect, understanding, and consent, and has a sweet and fulfilling happy ending. H'Nue is such a great supporting character and I hope to see him in a future book!

If you're looking for a hucow erotic romance with a difference, this is one for your TBR!

Hucow...but make it the most cow+cow farm story ever.

It gets two stars as there's a story. That being said, this wasn't erotic. This made me think/remember being on an actual farm. Ng'ombe zinakatiwa thaara. Ya asubuhi na ya jioni.

Add on that Carmen doesn't have a voice.

The book shows creative but potentially problematic writing.
