Taylor Swift: En primera persona

Rate this book

Taylor Alison Swift was born on December 13, 1989, in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania. Swift spent her early years on her family's Christmas tree farm. Her grandmother had been a professional opera singer, and Swift soon followed in her footsteps. By the age of 10, Swift was singing at a variety of local events, including fairs and contests. She sang "The Star-Spangled Banner" at a Philadelphia 76ers game at the age of 11, and began writing her own songs and learning guitar at 12 years old.

To pursue her music career, Swift often visited Nashville, Tennessee, the country music capital. There she co-wrote songs, and tried to land a recording contract. Noting her dedication, Swift and her family moved to nearby Hendersonville, Tennessee, in an attempt to further Swift's career.

A stellar performance at The Bluebird Café in Nashville helped Swift get a contract with Scott Borchetta's Big Machine Records. She released her first single, "Tim McGraw," in 2006, and the song became a Top 10 hit on the country charts. It also appeared on her self-titled debut album in October of that same year, selling more than 2.5 million copies. More popular singles soon followed, including "Our Song," a No. 1 country music hit. "Teardrops on My Guitar," "Picture to Burn," and "Should've Said No" were also successful tracks.

In addition to commercial success, Swift received a lot of critical praise for her debut effort. She won the Horizon Award from the Country Music Association (CMA) and the Academy of Country Music Award for Top New Female Vocalist in 2007. Swift next released Sounds of the Season: The Taylor Swift Holiday Collection in 2007. Her renditions of "Silent Night" and "Santa Baby" were modest hits on the country charts.

In 2008, Swift was nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best New Artist category, and won the Academy of Country Music's "Female Vocalist of the Year" Award, the American Music Awards "Favorite Female Country Artist" award, and the American Music Association's "Horizon" award. Around this same time, Swift released her next album, Fearless (2008), which hit the top of both the country and pop charts and stayed there for 11 weeks. By the end of the year, Swift had become the highest-selling country artist of 2008.

In 2009, Swift netted several awards for her work on Fearless, including "Video of the Year" and "Female Video of the Year" for "Love Story" at the CMT Music Awards. On September 13, 2009, Swift also won the MTV Video Music Award for "Best Female Video," making her the first country music star to win an MTV Video Music Award. The win stirred controversy when rapper Kanye West leaped to the stage during Swift's speech, took the microphone, and declared that R&B singer Beyoncé should have won Swift's award. The stunned Swift was unable to make her acceptance speech, and West was removed from the show. When Beyoncé accepted her award for "Best Video of the Year" later in the show, she called Swift to the stage to finish her speech. West later apologized to Swift privately,
and made a public apology on The Jay Leno Show.

If possible, the attention has made Swift an even hotter commodity. Her concert tickets now sell out in less than two minutes, and she is currently ranked as the 69th most powerful celebrity by Forbes magazine, with more than $18 million in earnings this year alone. She recently made her second appearance on comedy show Saturday Night Live, this time as both the host and musical guest. She has also been tapped for four CMA nominations in 2009—"Female Vocalist", "Music Video of the Year", "Best Album" and "Entertainer of the Year"— as well as six American Music Award nominations.

This was an incredibly good book. It had much deeper meanings than people who think Taylor SWift is a shallow songwriters hypothesis on how good this book would be. It had showed her moral conflicts, showed the song-writing process, her personal beliefs and how those changed, and especially her struggles. Instead of just a book of her quotes, it was a lesson. I think it showed how you're opinions can change for the better. How, just because you were raised in a different place or community, or even parents with different beliefs, it doesn't mean that's what you have to believe. This book took me on a journey of how she grew from her surroundings to find herself. It's very inspiring to see how just because someone says "you should be this!"or "you should be that!" it doesn't mean you have to follow that train. It shows to find your own words, find yourself really in the way you want.

As a hardcore swiftie, I obviously loved this! It's a book full of Taylor Swift quotes from throughout her career, leading up to the Lover era. Many of the quotes were inspirational and meaningful, and I think any fan of Taylor would enjoy this book. There's also a brief section at the end of various milestones throughout her career, which was interesting to read.

Good quotes, but I guess thsts the only problem and the thing I didn't realise: this book is literally just quotes 😭😭 therefore It's took me over a month to read bc I feel like it's better in rlly short bursts rather than to binge read

Anyways, still reccomend for swifties
(It only covers up until the lover era though so no folklore and evermore ☹️)

Huge Swifty, right here. I enjoyed this book. I could hear her saying each and every quote in my mind, but that’s probably because I’ve heard her say most of them. It was put together very well and I really liked the timeline at the end.

Reading this confirmed why I am a fan.

My favorite quotes include:

"All I think about are metaphors and cats."

and

"You know, Katie Couric is one of my favorite people because she said to me she had heard a quote that she loved (from former secretary of state Madeleine Albright) that said, 'There's a special place in hell for women who don't help other women.'"

I started writing... "Pain? Write a song about it. Like, intense feeling? Write a song about it."

When I was 10 years old, I'd be awake at night and think about the roaring crowd and walking out onstage and that light hitting me for the fist time. But I was always very calculated about it. I would think about exactly how I was going to get there, not just how it would feel to be there.

[Cats are] very dignified. They're independent. They are very capable of dealing with their own life, and if you fit into that on that day, they'll make some time for you, maybe. I just really respect it.

I'm fascinated by love rather than the principle of "Oh , does this guy like me?" I Love love. I love studying it and watching it. I love thinking about how we treat each other, and the crazy way that one person can feel one thing and another can feel totally different.

"White horse" is about that first letdown, when you realize that some body isn't who you thought they were and that they're not gonna end up being your future, they're gonna end up being your past.

If you're debating whether you want to break up with a guy or not, I always ask myself the simple question of "DO you want more or not?" When they leave and they go home to their house, do you wish they would turn around and come back to your? And "I don't know" usually equals no in almost any scenario.

I think I am smart unless I am really, really in love, and then I am ridiculously stupid.

A lot of people look at me and are just like, “You’re 16. How many boyfriends have you had?” And I haven’t had that many boyfriends at all. I just like to take examples of what my friends are going through or examples of what the couple next door is going through. And songwriting is a lot more observing than it is experiencing, in some cases.

I love writing songs because I love preserving memories, like putting a picture frame around a feeling you once had.

… if you write, you can turn your lessons into your legacy.

… a hole in the emotional walls people put up around themselves to survive.

You can be accidentally successful for three or four years. Accidents happen. But careers take hard work.

Apple (Music) treated me like I was a voice of a creative community that they actually cared about. And found it really ironic that the multi-billion-dollar company reacted to criticism with humility, and the start-up with no cash flow (Sportify) reacted to criticism like a corporate machine.

There will be no explanation. There will just be reputation.

I feel like dancing is sort of a metaphor for the way you live your life. You know how you’re at a house party and there’s a group of people over there just talking and rolling their eyes at everyone dancing? And you know which group is having more fun.

Despite our need to simplify and generalize absolutely everyone and everything in this life, humans are intrinsically impossible to simplify. We are never just good or just bad. We are mosaics of our worst selves and our best selves, our deepest secrets and our favorite stories to tell at a dinner party.

I heard a quote from Dolly Parton one time and she said that regrets aren’t fair to you because you couldn’t possibly have known then what you know now.

Ever think that your parents don't really listen to who your favorite singer/actress/celebrity is and then all the sudden on your birthday (or holiday) they surprise you with books about said favorite?

Yeah, my daddy completely took me by surprise when he presented me with three books all about my favorite singer, Taylor Swift.

This book isn't actually by Taylor, but is edited by Helena Hunt.

I loved all of the quotes and topics covered in this beautiful book.

It was nice remembering all the things she said from the interviews I used to read and listen to. I used to always read and listen to what Taylor Swift had to say. I grew up with this woman’s music and was always interested in how her brain works since the days of “Teardrops On My Guitar.” The book is well structured and divided in important chapters of Taylor’s life (cleverly using Taylor’s song titles), and it’s cool to see the evolution of Taylor, how she used to think before her twenties and how her opinions have changed since then. You don’t have to agree with everything she says to like her, and you can’t deny that the singer is a wise and talented entrepreneur and songwriter. (Re-)reading her words now that I’m older makes me understand the superstar’s abnormal life, gives me a glimpse of fame, and most importantly, makes me reflect and appreciate music and art more. Finally, I just wish the book had more citations, maybe from less popular magazines, interviews, etc. Maybe as well an analysis of what she said would have been cool like essays discussing her opinions? I don’t know, just something different than just quoting her.

This book was really, really good. To anyone who loves Taylor Swift or just wants to read about an empowering woman, this is a must read.

I love how it was all quotes from her and it ranged from fun to serious and showed really useful ways to look out on life. I got this as a gift and I’m so happy I read it.

Only thing that stung was that almost every collaborator was mentioned but not Brendon Urie for Me! which is rude.

But I really suggest it! It’s a quick read and made me so happy

A book of Taylor's own words is so important for her fans. It covers the period up to the release of Lover and the song for the musical Cats. A helpful timeline concludes the book.
