But Bross doesn't want to be a Horse. He would prefer to be a SEAHORSE. He wants to have all the advantages that SeaHorses have. So, let’s join him on his dream.
I’m sure that you already know that seahorses live in the water, but do you know that they are a type of fish? And that the male seahorse is the only male creature that can be pregnant?
Come and join the fun while we learn some more interesting facts about seahorses in this great kids’ book.
Cute idea for a story although I really don't like the many books that are coming out that are geared towards kids in which the main character wants to be something else rather than itself. Unlike the majority of books that I read this was one where in the end the main character did change its mind so it wasn't as bad as some of the others.
This book had gorgeous pictures and the fun facts at the finish of each page kept my attention going. Unfortunately some of those facts were wrong or given in a way that confused the actual truthful information such as the male seahorse doesn't fertilize the eggs then pass them to the female if he is the one that is "pregnant" or that seahorses mate for life when they will mate for a breeding season so the author needs a bit more work on that front.
The other thing that I didn't like is the fact there was no introduction to the story unless you read the summary on the page introducing you to Bross the Horse before starting the book. If you didn't read it the book was a bit confusing: "I wish I was a seahorse because....". It was like where is the beginning of the book at?
Well... It's cute. But not much else. Laden with interesting facts and some revealing pictures, it's certainly informative. But, the way Jackson handles the writing style, ultimately resulting in the short story's Achilles heel, is not apt enough. Therefore making it not enough to heft to anything worthy of attention.
my 8yr old daughter read this to me. we were wowed and amazed at all the things we didn't know....even caught her teacher teaching untrue seahorse facts
