Saturn #2

Kids in Love

Rate this book
As one of the original Saturnites, Darby McMillon has been a longtime face of the fandom. From the days when the boys were just a YouTube band trying to gain fans up through their recent lockdown, Darby's channel - Darby's Daily Dose of Drama - was the "go to" spot for all things Spaceships Around Saturn.

Until now, she's been trusted by most and envied by few, but her meet up with SAS girlfriend Chloe Branson shakes Darby's world. She learns quickly that when you're with the band, everything isn't always red carpets and music videos.

And the closer she gets to her SAS crush Tate Kingsley, the closer she comes to losing her Saturnite status forever.

Okay I LOVE AGOS. I LOVE Nikki Godwin. I ADORE Tate Kingsley. But I just wanted to strangle Darby McDillon. And not just once, but about a billion times. She pissed me off so badly. It might be her über-fangirl attitude that's to blame, but I just really didn't like her. And I think that it would have been better if the story were expounded on more. It felt too short, too rushed. On a positive note though, it made me smile to see all the AGOS characters once more. Can someone please collaborate with Ms. Godwin and release the AGOS song, please?

I definitely didn't like this.
I don't like Darby at all, I feel the same way that I feel towards popular accounts in fandoms when it comes to this girl, just don't.
I also think that as a Saturnire she's not as much of a fan as she thinks she is. All she cares about is Tate. Honestly, she pissed me off.
She's very negative and generally unpleasant, I can only see her as a grownup brat.
I'm actually sorry about that but it's just the way it is.
I didn't care at all for these new characters ugh.
I also feel like this whole Tate/Darby relationship is based upon nothing which is really annoying.
I also don't get why Milo would be jealous of Chloe, I thought that they were pretty confident in where they were standing so uh I didn't really appreciate that either.
I'm gonna pretend that this never happened and just wait for the next book.
This let me down on so many levels, it saddened me.

*DISCLAIMER* I received a free e-copy of this novella from the author in exchange for an honest review.

YAY - back in the Saturnite world again - what a cray cray fandom!
Reminds me so much of my hardcore One Direction days (wow - that sounds like those were in ancient times, when really, let's be honest...that was like 2013 haha)
This time we get a cute and fluffy novella revolving around Darby (of the famous youtube fanvideo-channel about the band) and Tate, a supersweet (AND INSANELY GENEROUS!) member of Spaceships around Saturn.
They meet and hit it off (or do they?!) - but you'll have to read for more ;)
I must say, Darby was quite a jealous little fangirl at times - the way she hated on other bandmembers' girlfriends was so petty!
And, unfortunately also quite a bit ungrateful, so not the typical likeable character - but in light of fandoms and her fangirl emotions still understandable.
I'd love to have a deeper exploration of her character, but obviously a novella doesn't exactly allow that.

Nikki Godwin's writing is so accessible and I flew through this.
So quirky and cute - gosh, honestly, best escapism for fangirls.
So yes, again, like book one, this was what fangirls' dreams are made of.
Naturally unrealistic but still so endearing and awwwww-like, you simply have to enjoy it - especially when you were part of a fandom yourself!
Perfect short read in a world I previously enjoyed aaaand with a Hollywood-worthy HEA.

This book was one of the cutest ones I've read in a while! It was super light and fun and really captured the inner workings of a fandom. Being a Directioner myself, I thought Nikki did a really great job talking about the pros and cons of fandoms!

In all honesty, Chloe was kind of annoying in the beginning, but as I kept reading I began to like her more and more. I absolutely loved her by the end! I'm not gonna lie, I definitely did not like this book as much as American Girl on Saturn, but that's alright because I still loved it. I can not wait for the next one!

If you read American Girl on Saturn and liked it, this is a must for you! If you are a fangirl/boy for anyone, be it One Direction, Justin Bieber or whomever, this is a must for you too! If you just like squealing at your books because of cute male protagonists then you've got to read this book as well! And if you enjoy real characters with flaws and true-to-life problems (like parents who just. do. not. get. it. sometimes) than you really have to read this book.

If you said yes to all of the above (like me), then I don't even know why you're still reading this review!

This book was seriously god awful... I can't even begin to describe how much I actually hated it. I would've given it negative stars, if I could; I had to add an entire new bookshelf ("Did Not Like"- to put it mildly) just for this one. I loved the first one, American Girl on Saturn, and had high hopes for this book... needless to say, it fell incredibly short.

Darby's character showed great promise, but fell horribly flat; she came across as petty, jealous and though she claimed to be a "Saturnite" hated every time she was with the band and looked down on the fans for acting like fans. She was actually pissed that the bodyguards were doing their job of guarding the band instead of her... I mean, seriously?! And then she was insanely jealous of Chloe for absolutely no reason other than all the band members seemed to like her- she's dating one of them and they spent a significant amount of time under the same roof, of course they like her!!!!!! . She spent 90% the book being jealous and whining about this and that.

Darby and Tate had absolutely ZERO chemistry- frankly, I had no clue who Tate was as we never got any kind of character development out of him whatsoever. They made no sense together and their every interaction felt forced and awkward- the couple I was rooting for most during this book was Maggie and Axel, for goodness sake!

I had to FORCE myself to finish this book- even then, I skimmed the last half- because I could barely stomach it anymore. A waste of money... I'm going to attempt Cross Me off Your List because it's an interesting concept, but if it goes the way this book did, I'm so done.

I had no clue this book was coming, until I saw it on our calender for a Blitz post. I completely freaked, I was so excited. A whole year after reading the first book AMERICAN GIRL ON SATURN I heard nothing of the series but I always wondered and hoped there would be more. And I was not disappointed, Nikki Godwin delivered an adorable read about a young teen girl who is fanatic about a boy-band Spaceships Around Saturn. The highs and lows of meeting her idols and her ultimate crush Tate Kingsley who has taken an instant liking to her.
We met Darby in book one, her you tube channel Darby's Daily Dose of Drama - was the "go to" spot for all things Spaceships Around Saturn. But now we get to meet her and learn about her life and family.
I am going to be honest I am not much a Darby fan; she is a BRAT and whey but I somewhat get it she is only 16.

Overall a really good novella that I thoroughly enjoyed. If you have read the first book then you NEED TO READ THIS and if you have not read AMERICAN GIRL ON SATURN READ IT NOW YOU ARE SERIOUSLY MISSING OUT

PS I don't normally read YA but Nikki Godwin is a talented author who just captivates me with her words and they way the weaves them together.
Another Solid Read....Well Done

I was really excited to read this after American girl on Saturn. The first book was so cute. I love how everything fit and was expecting something similar in this novella.

But

It didn't live up to my expectations.
Darby just seemed extremely childish throughout the book. Maybe it was just her extreme fan girl obsession but to me just childish. She didn't like Chloe because she wasn't a fan girl like her. Or not part of the SAS fandom club. She was thinking about breaking up Milo and Chloe so she set up her friend with Milo instead.

I get her behaviour regarding aralie as she has a stand-offish personality. But she was so insecure about everything. I think she resents the Branson sisters, she got jealous of Emery, a little kid just because they appear closer to them than her.
Well duh they spent weeks together in lockdown with each other, of course there gonna be close.

Everyone gets fan girl moments, me included but this was over the top. She seemed to childish and crazy obsessive with Tate. Where was her bubbly personality ??

I just hope she gets over the Branson sisters and just focuses on herself and Tate.

I LOVED this book. iT was so worth the wait:)

Experiencing SAS from an ultimate fan's point of view was a really different perspective than Chloe's point of view in AGOS. I love how Nikki described all the fan-girly stuff {which i highlighted all of, because they all describe me with One Direction ;)), and that was on point. I've been waiting for this book for a long time, checking goodreads every day to see if it's available, and reading all of Nikki's struggles with writing this one on twitter. The wait was so worth it. Nikki Godwin is one of my all-time favorite authors ; and I've read all of her books {except Falling From The Sky, but that's only because I haven't gotten around to reading it yet!} and I love how each of her series has a different feel to it, and each book in the series. I love the twists the books take, and this one was no exception. Darby might not be my number 1 favorite character, but she totally gets what it's like to be a fangirl (obviously) I don't really know where I'm going with this review so I'm just gonna stop it here xD

I really liked reading it. While reading AGOS I couldn't get warm with the Branson sisters. So I totally understood Darby.
I really really like her. She reminded me of myself when I was obsessed with this one band, knew all about them and their families, watched all their kyte videos... It's long ago but Darby brought all that memories back.

I have to say after reading AGOS I wasn't really sure if I want to read another Saturn book. AGOS was a bit too much happiness and too much good-guy Milo for me.
I really wait for Noah's book because it's Noah. And Cresent Cove. And KIL let's me look forward to more Saturn drama. That book really hooked me up with the series.

And I have to say I liked seeing remarks of Miles and Jude in this book.

Kids in Love is the perfect title for this Saturn book! It’s a light, fun novella for that person with a fangirl/boy spirit. Great for the YA crowd, this novella packs cute tongue teasers like Darby’s Daily Dose of Drama, annoying younger brothers, and of course, the hot boy band. If you’re looking for that book where a fangirl gets the once in a lifetime opportunity to meet her fangirl crush, it’s definitely a good read leading up to the next book in the series. And as I absolutely adored American Girl on Saturn, it was great to see the Saturn gang again—they will always have a special place in my heart :)

This book is so cute!! It is light and sweet. It made me laugh and SMILE (and frustrated in some parts). I love how realistic it is and not everything in an artist/celebrity world is perfect and they will also have bad days. You'll definitely love Tate no matter what plus his gummy worms! IT'S PERFECT!!!!! This novella is amazing!!!! <3

"Kids in Love" turned out to be a fantastic read. I really liked Darby and Tate's characters - they were really cute together. I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline and thought it was awesome to see what the members of Spaceships Around Saturn were up to after the "lockdown" in AGOS. Overall, it was a short, sweet, and fun read.

I was so excited to to read this book because the first one was so great. It wasn't quite what I expected it to be but I think I was hoping it would be like AGOS. I didn't dislike this book I just didn't love it as much as Chloe and Milo's story.

It was so hard for me to connect with Darby. I didn't really like her character all that much especially her jealousy. She even got jealous of Chloe's little sister that is in first grade. I hated how she thought about Chloe the way that she did. She didn't give her a chance before she disliked her, I understand she was a fan and all but Darby was kind of a brat. The poor girl was in her head way too much too and overthought everything. Coming from a girl that tends to think too much that's really saying something. I didn't really like Tate with Darby, I thought he deserved better than her.

I liked the small glimpse into the band we got but I so wanted more! Even though this book wasn't my favorite I cannot wait until the next book, which I already have. I highly recommend this series to all the fangirls out there!

This continuation of the Saturn series is cute, just the first one, but this one delves more into the fandom. Lots of cute snippets of fandom culture, I can admit, it made me giggle, as I was never any kid of fangirl. Once again, though, I wish there had been more of the couple of interest -- I wanted more meaningful interactions between Darby and Tate. Tate, the adorable Saturn, is very enjoyable, and I just wanted more of him and Darby and more of what made him interested in Darby, because I saw too much of why he should run in the other direction. Again, though, it's a sweet little story and we got a little peek into the romances from the first book.

More fangirl fun

I'm the first to admit I've never been a Daniel of a boy band. A travesty. I know. But something about American Girl on Saturn got me hooked and I'm an official SAS fan. This novella was a quick, fun follow-up that I recommend for your summer reading list. Check out the rest of the series too!
