Hey y'all!

My name is Chelsie. I'm an indie author living in SW Oklahoma. I started writing fantasy and contemporary romance in 2022.

I'm a mother to two. Wife to the most amazing man. If I'm not writing, I'm usually reading. Traveling and fitness are also hobbies I love.

I love to use my imaginary worlds to create yummy men (who all strangely remind me of my husband) and strong, resilient female characters who are not perfect, but grow into women fighting for their own happily ever after.

What every divorce should be for the children's sake.

The heroine takes the news her husband wants a divorce because of the shiny new toy at work. Amazingly well to the point it irks the soon to be ex. The newness of a cliche affair rubs off pretty quickly and the doofus can't get it through his thick skull that just maybe his wife doesn't want him. The heroine is insanely sane, logical and calm about the divorce to the point I wanted to ask where's the drama, where's the angst. She's in the the ex relationship for the long haul.

She does finally out her foot down and explains to the ex how unwanted he really is. Luckily she has a hunky ex- military man waiting in the wings.

Cheating second chance book with a new H. The h was definitely too nice at times and drove me crazy but it still worked for the story. I did actually appreciate that some of the misunderstanding between the two MCs was resolved rather quickly with a conversation rather than being dragged out. The cheating husband got a HEA too, and I’m petty so not sure how I feel about that, and this was on top of him getting pretty much everything in the divorce because she didn’t want it.

54 cutes and 43 adorables to describe the h. Not one annoying haha. Cut out 45% of how wonderful the lovebirds monologued about each other and this would have been much better.

I read it to fill time in a waiting room, love the marriage in peril trope. Happy the h didn't take the cheating husband back.

This story had potential, but there were too many things that bothered me. I appreciated the ex husband POV, but could have done without the mistress.

The MMC was CONSTANTLY talking about how "adorable " the FMC was. at first it was cute but then it got annoying. there were some pages where he called her adorable more than once. I get it. she's adorable. can we move on?

Personally I thought the FMC was annoying. She of course did what was best for her kids but the one time she finally exploded was when the MMC stuck up for her?? not when her ex had an affair. not when he left her for his mistress. no. when her new guy who treats her like gold defended her against her drunk ex?? that was ridiculous.

so yeah. this is a safe book as far as the relation between the MCs but I was still irritated.

I started this book and couldn’t put it down. It is a well written and refreshing story about love, loss, betrayal and redemption.
The characters were so relatable and I laughed so much with the main character and her sister.

This was an ok read for me that sort of went on too long.

The heroine’s husband cheats on her and leaves her. I was hoping for a little more angst but she’s nice to him for the sake of the kids. The angst came in the form of him regretting and trying to get her back later on.

Thankfully she never entertains this and has a brand new hero, who’s almost perfect.

I felt like there were a few too many things working against the story - the middle dragged, the heroine was a little too nice at times, the MCs felt a little too quirky or juvenile, and there were some noticeable editing issues.

I also like to find some positives too though, so I did like some of the characters, her son was super loyal, there’s a cute dog, and I did like that she found a happy and fulfilling life!

I might’ve liked this better if the writing didn’t come off so basic and elementary with a lot of repetition. Despite the plot, it wasn’t really angsty at all.

Another on my "angst/grovel/redemption" kick, prompted by the urge to read about people who do mean and stupid things to hurt others getting their comeuppance and/or painful retribution. The protagonists here had some unique characteristics, and good parenting dynamics, but otherwise were a bit melodramatic and lacking depth. In this case the cheating husband and his affair partner were OTT, and the reasons for his betrayal were threadbare. Some pointed painful retribution though for readers who want emotional resolution with a sledgehammer.

It was OK. Nothing to write home about. Except the fact that the cheating MMC was a great dad. The younger daughter forgave easily but it took longer for the son to come around and he had to work at it. The son was also pretty good help to the mom. There was a bit of extra drama at the end with the OW that felt a bit unnecessary but not terrible.

I absolutely loved this story! Feighlynn is just adorable and her son Preston is amazing. Lynn and Vin’s journey to true love isn’t run of the mill and makes you fall in love with the two of them more. Was very jealous of Lynn, wanted my own action hero! This will be one I read again and again.

Well, I liked the whole book, was considering to give 4* until the epilogue.

The epilogue for me, destroyed the whole book for me. Considering that the main plot is that the FMC gets cheated and her husband leaves her for another one and after a year he tries to get her back but she has met someone else and blah blah blah, to have an epilogue that:

1. She is friends with her ex husband while there was no redemption for him. He was just a selfish man.

2. He found his person. Like, wtf? The whole book is him trying to win FMC back cause he understood that SHE was his person and he messed up??

3. She has a second child at 39 with her new husband was a bit much. I understood the surprise pregnancy at 35, but 39?

4. Her son has great relationship with his father. We get the kid’s POV in the book. Their relationship was a mess and the fact that his father cheated and left his mother. Now their relationship is great and played a big role that the father now is married to the mother of one of his friends (?) WTF.

Disappointing and I won’t read anything else from this author cause I really really hate when I like a book and I dislike the epilogue.

I feel like the book could’ve been more stars but the author isn’t the type of author I enjoy. I personally would have rated the book 1 in enjoyment but the author isn’t a bad writer. The FMC is a doormat then overnight turns into a self righteous saint, she goes from living that the ex-husband is a good father to being pissed off that he dared show up to his son game before she even knew if he made the effort to win her back or the son back. The MMC is weird because he says things about the ex-husband like “douche walked in like he owned the place” yeah it’s HIS child’s game. Personally I found it weird That after a few “weeks” she invites her boyfriend who she hadn’t even told her children she was seeing to her sons game. The author comes across as more of a fairy tail fiction writer than a romance writer. Kind of like they’re still mentally 13.

I can’t tell you how much I loved Vin and Lynns story.

Vin….what a great main character. Lynn some people might say she was weak in the beginning but what else could she do?
What I loved the most was how organically it all played out. There was no toxicity or vengeance, Nick got his comeuppance without Lynn having to do anything….there was no getting back at the ex or any nastiness, it was just her falling in love with Vin and Nick realising what he’d thrown away (and it hit him hard).
Vin was her forever and their relationship was just ‘chefs kiss’. If you know you know. I loved it.

3.5 ⭐️

I liked this, I liked it a lot and let me tell you why.

The fact that Faelynn's husband was so distraught over his decision to leave his wife, AND we got to see it. That dude was in pain, and my vengeful little heart loved it. Loved that I saw him wallow in his misery, saw him realise how stupid he was, saw him see his ex-wife with another man and know he lost out, saw him BEG but his ex-wife was living her best fucking life...with ANOTHER man

Yeah, that made me giddy 🤭

Tons of typos

Too many POVs

Repetitive phrases (how many times do we have to read how “f*ing adorable” the FMC is?)

Too long

Flat characters

Original plot. Good characters that could have deeper. So many grammatical errors- even repeating sentences detracted the enjoyment of the story.

Ok reading.
About a woman whose husband asks for divorce telling her he’s not in love with her anymore and is in love with another woman. This ow is his coworker with whom he’s had an affair for months.
The heroine is very strong and kind, not begging him or insulting him but accepting the fact and even trying to help him with their children, especially their son, that is furious with his father for doing what he did.
The heroine even doesn’t ask for alimony, only the house, and is very accommodating with the new ow.
Enter sexy neighbor. He’s a retired soldier, now employed in security, who immediately is attracted to the heroine.
This happens one year after the divorce.
The heroine is attracted to him, he’s quite the opposite of her ex. And we can picture him, tall, packed and inked, well, who would not like him.
He’s also carefree and strong, not whiny and conceited like her ex.
Re enter her ex again, who understood that new toys soon lose their luster and wants the heroine back again.
So he starts showing up everywhere while the heroine tries to successfully dating her hot new man.
Issues happen.
Crappy exes come back.
Drama.
Ex hubby becomes an alcoholic and the heroine tries to keep her kids safe.
In the end all is well.
This is one book where the heroine doesn’t take the cheater back, hallelujah.
She’s so over him it’s not even funny.
I loved it, even more so because she’s not a bitchy and embittered woman, she’s a sweet and funny thing that doesn’t hold grudge.
She simply has no love left for him, not even when he touches rock bottom.
She doesn’t want revenge, she doesn’t want karma. She wants her sexy and better new model man so she can finally be happy. He treats her like a queen. Her ex never did.
She has pride dignity and self respect.
I wish she had been a bit more petty sometimes though.
I understand she wanted to protect he’d kids and make things less difficult for them but sometimes you have to let it go, or else those feelings of hurt, pain, regret, can devour you from inside.
She should have slapped her husband when he asked for divorce, she should have shut his mistress out of her house.
She should have refused to be always so friendly when we know she spent a heavy first year after her divorce before meeting the hero.
I’m not fond of people pretending too much, or accepting being hurt just to keep things quiet. If a person hurt someone, they must be made aware of the damage they’ve done and of the consequences of their actions, otherwise they’ll keep doing it again and again.
Thank god her older son was the one who kept reminding his dad what a worthless ahole he’s been and what a hoe his new woman was. The ex husband regretted cheating and leaving his wife and I almost felt sorry for him. Almost. Not quite.
The end was too good for my taste.
Her ex has a happy ending too, with a different woman, which I wasn’t to happy with, because I understand that in real life those sad cheaters seldom have some comeuppance, but in fiction I wish for some kind of karma.
Sadly not this time.
The heroine and the hero are happy and have more children, which made me anyway quite content.

Succeeding Love had its moments, both good and frustrating, but overall, it left me feeling a bit conflicted. It’s a second-chance romance with a lot of emotional highs and lows, told through the perspectives of four main characters: Fae Lynn, a 35-year-old mother of two; her estranged husband Nick; Nick’s mistress Arlene; and Kevin (aka “Vin”), Fae Lynn’s new neighbor and eventual love interest.

The Good:
1. Complex Dynamics: The book dives into family dynamics in a way I don’t often see in romance. The kids, Preston (16) and Jessie (13), are old enough to understand their dad’s infidelity, which adds a layer of realism. Preston’s protective loyalty to his mom and Jessie’s conflicted feelings toward their dad and his mistress felt authentic.
2. Arlene’s Characterization: Arlene wasn’t your stereotypical “evil mistress.” She had her own vulnerabilities and reasons for staying with Nick, which made her a more rounded character. Her bond with Jessie felt genuine, even if her relationship with Nick unraveled over time.
3. Realistic Flaws: Nick’s descent into alcoholism and his struggles with his choices were messy, but they felt believable. I appreciated how his actions had consequences—professionally, personally, and as a father.

The Frustrating:
1. Fae Lynn’s Boundaries (or Lack Thereof): While Fae Lynn was admirably patient and kind, her passivity toward Nick’s constant overstepping wore thin. Her desire to “play nice” for the sake of co-parenting often undermined her budding relationship with Vin. For someone who’s clearly moved on, she let Nick linger in her life far too much.
2. Vin Deserved Better: I liked Vin—he was supportive, kind, and protective. But the big fight at the charity event, where Fae Lynn unfairly iced him out, felt contrived. It was frustrating to see him have to grovel over a situation where he was defending her. I wanted her to fight for him at some point, but that never really happened.
3. Inconsistencies with POVs: The switching perspectives sometimes worked well, but the lack of consistency—where some chapters had clear labels and others left you guessing—was distracting. It felt like an artistic choice at first, but over time, it seemed more like a lack of editing.

Final Thoughts:
Succeeding Love had some fresh takes on family and post-divorce relationships, but it also fell into a few romance clichés that felt unnecessary. While I appreciated the mature themes, like older kids navigating their parents’ split and the exploration of second chances, some character decisions (especially Fae Lynn’s) felt frustrating and dragged the story down.

It’s a decent read if you enjoy messy family drama, but be prepared for some moments of head-shaking annoyance. I’d give it a cautious recommendation, especially for readers who like their romances with a side of complicated parenting dynamics.

I started hate reading by around the 30% mark. But since it was short, I continued to force myself to read onward. The writing is incredibly basic. Here’s just a quick summary of some words that came up with an absurd frequency in a 378 page book:

* Adorable - 43
* The phrase “F*cking cute” - 7
* Some variant of Cute - 54
* Some variation of Giggle - 75!!!!!
* F*cking was used 75 times and almost entirely as an adverb. Though it was also used and adjective occasionally.
* The base word “sweet”? 98 times!

Their conversations are so lame and cringey, man. It really didn’t feel like the sort of interactions that a fully grown mother of teenagers and a guy who served in the army until his retirement would have.

There’s a scene near the end where he calls her adorable for the billionth time, and she says “that’s what you keep telling me.” He asks if she’s getting tired of hearing it and she says no. But I really think he should have broken the fourth wall and asked the reader. Cause I sure as hell was tired of it.

Why did we have so many points of views? Her ex-husband was pathetic, and we didn’t need to learn anything about his misery. I’m a firm believer in FAFO. Dude got what he deserved. And the fact we had chapters with the POV of the other woman? Oh, man. So unnecessary. Macho man temper tantrums are extremely unattractive. Kevin (Vin) the hero was already pretty meh before that point, but the fight around the 75% mark just sealed the deal on my opinion of him. And the stupid Mindy storyline at the 90% mark? Legitimately made me want to throw my phone. I really disliked how other women were portrayed throughout the book. This includes: her ex’s mom, the wife of her ex’s boss, the other woman Arlene, & his ex Mindy.

The one thing I did appreciate was that Lynn had no time for her ex’s bs. Really enjoyed when she put him in his space and stopped pretending to be amicable for the sake of the kids. Honestly this book gets one more star than it really deserves due entirely to that scene. A highlight:

“As I was pulling away, I saw Nick sitting on the top step of my porch, his head in his hands as his shoulders shook. I felt no remorse. No regret. Nothing but anger for the fickle, cowardly man that once again tried to steal my blooming happiness because of his own selfish agenda.”

Three cheers! 🍻

There were several typos and editing errors throughout the book. Enough for it to be noticeable.

I will not be reading other books by this author in the future.

I read a little bit at a time because I enjoyed every moment of this book. The first day I read half of it but, since I didn't want it to end I started to read a little bit each day. I found that it had many moments that brought a smile to my face. Although it starts with a broken heart of the heroine, we realize how she is able to put her best face for her children in order to maintain a healthy relationship with her cheating ex. We begin with a sad scene that lets you know that she will hold on for her children. Her son is a teenager who protects his mom from anyone, especially his dad.

While walking her dog she meets her new neighbor H, the son of one of her neighbors who lives across the street, and from this point their romance begins to unravel. The narration is experienced from the PoV of 5 characters, h & H, h's ex, ex's mistress and the h's son. I liked this a lot, like seeing the story from different PoVs.
The h & H seem to have one of those relationships that come so easy that they seem perfect. The h's ex tries to get back together with her, and this ultimately leads to a situation where the main characters find themselves in conflict. The fact that her kids don't cause drama because they want to see their mom happy also appealed to me.
I certainly enjoyed the book and will probably read it again.

If you read the book description, then you know this is about a husband who has an affair and then asks his wife for a divorce, and leaves to be with the other woman.
We have the FMC, Feighlynn, and 2 MMC’s, her (ex) husband, Nick, and the new neighbour and love interest, (Kevin) Vin; the woman Nick had the affair with, Arlene, and Nick and Lynn’s children, Preston and Jessie.

We get POV’s from Lynn, Nick, Vin, Arlene and Preston.

There is no on page cheating.
It is discussed briefly in the first chapter when Nick tells her he’s leaving.
We find out early on that he had an affair because he thought him and Lynn got married too young, in college, and that she was happy with life, but a little boring (yeah, being a stay at home mom, who supported Nick through law school, and was an incredible wife and mother, must have been a dream come true for her, even continuing take care of their family after knowing her husband cheated and left her for another woman) but he wanted someone more ambitious and outgoing.
(grass is not always greener and he grovelled so hard 🙄.
We find out that the OW wanted what Lynn had and that’s why she did what she did.
Lynn was such a saint, she supported Arlene’s request to still spend time with her daughter Jessie, after the break up, as they had gotten really close during this year and had no children of her own.

Feighlynn was so graceful and mature about the whole thing.
She was way better than I was during my divorce (still petty and angry about it 😂).
She encouraged her children to be nice to the other woman and played down their fathers betrayal to help his relationship with them (they knew he had an affair; his teenage son never really forgave him).

Nick clearly regrets the affair and after a year, he is desperate to reconcile with Lynn.
Around the same time his relationship with the other woman was ending, the neighbour Kevin, (hot, tattoo’d, built like a brick house with a huge 🍆 😂), moves in with his aging mother, across the street, when he has returned from deployment with plans to go into another line of work.

He also had a ex-wife who had cheated on him too so could really empathize with Lynn.

He is smitten with Lynn right away and obviously she is deliriously happy.
They obviously have an HEA.
The story is so much more than that though.
The character development was simple but I couldn’t help but fall in love with them (well all of them except the cheaters).
I love how spicy Vin was for Lynn and he really brought her back to life.
Her son was super protective of her and did not want her even entertaining the idea of even being friends with their dad.
And she had her sister who was a little bit wild herself.

This story wasn't too bad, but there was a ton of over description of their everyday lives making this story drag in parts. Fay's hubby tells her, he's leaving her to be with his skank whore co-worker who he's been banging for months. Fay and her hubby's love life had waned for months, so she wasn't totally blindsided about the reason why, and she immediately accepts the separation. Fay, ever the consummate peacekeeper, makes everything as easy as possible for her louse of a (s00n to be ex) husband.

Nick soon realizes that the vapid co-worker he's with now wasn't really what he wanted after all, and lo and behold, everything he ever needed was with the saintly woman he left behind. But Fay had already divorced him and has now moved on to be with a sexy AF neighbor who treats her like gold and appreciates everything about her.

I loved watching Nick suffer immeasurably after willingly destroying his family life and marriage. The evil OW got off way too easily, and Fay and her new hottie were just a tad too perfect and too easy to be believable. In the end, EVERYBODY gets a HEA, including the cheating asshole ex husband.

Like I said, the story wasn't too bad. It wasn't very angsty, despite the content. Fay was way too good to be believable, and so was her new relationship. It was almost fairy tale worthy.

okay

I feel this could have been a good book if the characters had more depth. If I had to listen to Vin say one more time (to Lynn) “you’re adorable” or “you’re cute”, I was gonna puke!! Could he not say any other adjective about the woman he supposedly loved? That’s all he ever said about her over and over and over again. If I was her, I’d just stick my finger down my throat and get it over with. I also would have called the guy out for only having two adjectives to describe what he liked about her!

Then there was the part about the horrible and I really do mean horrible grammar. It was as though this book was read into some sort of recording device. Some sentences were completely repeated back to back. Many times you had to read a sentence three or four times including all of the supporting sentences before it to figure out what they were really trying to say because there were so much that was incorrect. Who proofreads these things? How in the world did this get past a proofreader?

I did like the multiple POV’s for each of the characters in the story. It was helpful to be able to follow along in the story.

Could have been a good story. But you really had to overlook a lot.

This book dragged. There were parts that served no purpose. And the grammar killed me. I did like nearly all of the characters but honestly the kids were the fakest parts. It was a good story as I smiled through nearly all of it but it was a shallow easy story. I didn’t feel any growth of the characters on page. They were mostly all very self aware of themselves and were fairly rational. The FMC was such an amazing woman that she made everyone else appear small in character in comparison.

Like I said too easy. I probably will never read this book again as I was bored waiting for any real drama to start or play out on page. This book was mostly about the instaromance of the FMC and the MMC new next door neighbor. The angst and drama was from side characters. The cheating ex husband and his homewrecker got their own POV chapters for no real reason. They were selfish narcissists who served no purpose in the story except and the ones you end up feeling sorry for. Smh.

Anyway, nothing memorable happens in this book. Nothing that would bring me back to read it again.

Good luck.

This book was so refreshing. It contained all of the elements I look for when reading a new love romance with a cheating ex.

Feighlynn's husband Nick betrayed her, he cheated on her with a collegue and left her for the other woman. They divorced and Nick moved in with the other woman. They split custody with their kids. The older boy ( 16) is completely defensive of his mother and the other woman is bonded with the younger daughter.

When the grandson of her neighbor moves in she feels a surprising spark. His name is the same name as her dog Kevin so she calls him Vin after Vin Diesel. He calls her Lynn.

Lynn is excited at the idea of dating again and likes spending time with Vin. Then Nick decides he wants another chance and buys the condo they'd always talked about buying when they were together. He realizes he has competition with avin. Lynn doesn't want Nick back, there's no second chance for him but he doesn't give up. Nick is the roadblock on Lynn's way to being happy with Vin.

I found this story creative and realistic. I really like when the ex realizes his stupidity in losing the fmc. I don't want them back together, I just want to see regret over losing the awesome fmc while the mmc swoops in as a white knight.

Her POS husband walks out on her (on her birthday no less) because his child free co-worker gets divorced and looks like she’s living the life. So he convinces himself he needs to be free of this marriage so he can feel like the man. And you know he’s supposed to be a hot shot lawyer and that kind of behavior is just normal for him and his partners. So hand life crisis results in him having an affair. All is good till the OW is at his Christmas party and decides she wants more.

Later he realizes he messed up because he was married to a literal angel. Now his ex wife wants nothing to do with him, his son hates him, daughter is clueless so she puts up with him. Doesn’t matter though because h shacks up with her smoking, hot new neighbor when he moves in to help his aging mother. Instant chemistry between h and neighbor (H). He’s a literal dream in a leather jacket. Ex hubby gets jealous and wants back in, h tells him to take a hike. h’s son tells him to piss off. OW gets kicked to the curb eventually and realizes ex hubby is a jerk too. It’s all a great time.
