Before DI Hero Nelson has the chance to get used to his new role as a father to brand-new twins, a murder investigation steals his attention. When a second victim is discovered on his patch, Hero has his eye on a single perpetrator for both murders - but the suspect has a solid alibi for both crimes.
Hero continues his investigation until he obtains a surprising end result.

Another gripping, intense and thoroughly enjoyable read. M.A. COMLEY has done it again. I couldn't wait to read this after finishing her Justice series and reading 'Torn Apart'; book 1 in the Hero series. This is an exceptional read as one has grown to expect. It could very easily be read independently but I enjoyed the authors excellent character development. A strong lead character, however, Hero won't be winning father or husband of the year in my book... Thoroughly recommended along with Torn Apart and the entire Justice series. I can't wait to read more of M.A. COMLEY'S work now!! Five stars.
End Result by mel Comley. Hero gets a new case. A man has been killed in an alley. Another decaying body was found. Are they connected? OMG. Another fantastic read from mel. I loved the story. And what a twister of a read. Could not put this down. Definitely worth more than 5*. Thanks mel.
Hero series book 2. Oh I was ready for this, book 2 in the Hero series starts off with a BOOOMM..
A murder then a birth. Hero is thrown right into it. A good mix of work life and home life. More than a little bit drunk Stuart Daws is murdered on his way home from the pub. Then Body number 2 is found, and the search steps up. Can Hero and his team find out who the killer is, or if these 2 deaths are even linked before any more bodies are found? With home life being hectic, and his partner Julie Shaw, not quite up to much after her bad news from home, Hero also has the help of part time partner Foxy- but between them will they be able to get to bottom of all that has happened and why and get the End Result they need?
Written in the only way M A Comley can write---Brilliantly.
As with all Mel's books (I've read them all-Almost, just got the romance ones to catch up on) I thoroughly enjoyed it. And it was only home life and work that stopped me from sitting in one spot and reading this until it was finished. Could quite happily have sat and read it in one sitting. But I needed it to last to stop me sulking while waiting for Mel's next book.

Bestselling author Mel Comley has skilfully weaved yet another terrific thriller, ‘End Result’. This is the second book featuring D.I. Hero Nelson and his partner D.S. Julie Shaw. Though it follows ‘Torn Apart’ in a series, it may very well be read on its own.
The author goes straight for the jugular in this thriller and the story kicks off with a murder. A drunken man, returning home from the local pub is attacked and murdered in an alley at night. Hero starts his investigation by visiting the man’s wife and is instantly suspicious of her odd behaviour. He is sure that she’s hiding something and not telling the whole truth.
A second body, another viciously murdered man, is found soon after and Hero and his team intensify their investigations when they find a connection between the two murders.
Without divulging anything, apart from the murders and the ensuing investigations, we also find a number of other interesting storylines to keep us entertained, mostly involving the various women in Hero’s life.
‘End Result’ does not only have a stunning cover, inside it is brim-full with engaging characters and realistic dialogue. The ending: a total surprise. I certainly didn’t see that coming!
While highly recommending ‘End Result’, all I can add is that, (as is typical with all Mel Comley novels), this is another exciting, breath taking thriller that kept me literally pinned to my kindle and I couldn’t stop reading until I have turned the last page.
A fabulous, suspense-driven read that touches the heart
End Result is a brilliant, twisty book where you know that what appears to be happening isn’t quite right. A woman with a seemingly airtight alibi is the chief suspect (eye witnesses put her at the scene), but how can she possibly have carried out the murders when pub patrons have seen her throughout her shift? It’s a conundrum of the greatest whodunnits, and it’s a plot line that Ms Comley handles with effortless ease, making next events difficult, if not impossible to second guess.
There is a constant feeling of “okay, now what else…?” as the protagonists, like the reader, are hit with one incident after another, that makes the book hard to put down (even when one has a very important early meeting to make – thank you Ms Comley!).
End Result starts with a sudden, brutal murder of an undesirable – a petty crook, Stuart Dawes. The way he died, garroted, requires strength and there are a number of suspects that at first start to ‘look good for the crime’. Enter DI Hero Nelson (I’ll never get tired of loving that name!), of the Manchester Met Police, with partner DS Julie Shaw, to investigate the heinous crimes.
I love the way Ms Comley brings family firmly into the drama equation, to give a real sense of closeness and warmth to her characters. It raises them from just being the team who solve crimes, to people who you care for, and who tug at your emotions as if they were people within your own family. Hero is a principled man, who doesn’t break rules, but goes the distance to save those who can’t save themselves. He doesn’t speed, despite needing to be at his pregnant wife’s side when she goes into labor, but he does bend the rules to handle a situation facing his sister Cara, and her imminent retreat from the Force, through no fault of her own.
Ms Comley has a way of exploring a world where grieving widows care more for a loss in benefits than a loss of their beloved. A place where the police have to tread carefully, as criminals sling curses and insults, baiting the law keepers to make their move, and when they do, their solicitors stop interviews with cries of “police harassment” and “unsubstantiated claims”. As a reader, you sense the growing frustrations of the protagonists that mirror accurately the lives of the real police every day.
The gritty crime scenes take the reader to dingiest parts of Manchester - the squalid bedsits, dodgy pubs and punters, and alleyways filled with thugs and shady dealings. Dilapidated buildings and tenements where residents keep their mouths as shut as their doors, for fear of reprisals. The situation of the two elderly witnesses, living alone, dreadful conditions, but still resolute, is heart-breaking. Despite a show of strength, the reader can see their fear-infested state; their constant pleading to Hero to make their life somehow better is an indictment to this. Ms Comley shines a painful light on those in society, who, to a greater extent, by ineffectual national policy-making and a lack of joined-up thinking at regional government level, have been mishandled, and as a result, are forgotten. Just a statistic – and it require far too much effort to change it. And anyway those people aren’t ever going to be a threat to those in power. No influence. No impact. No voice. An uncomfortable truth those in the leafy suburbs push under the carpet rather than face.
Similarly, the issue of sexual harassment by someone in a position of responsibility, echoes a harsh fact: ‘power corrupts’. Ms Comley doesn’t just lead on the sexist angle, picking up the obvious, current chant of ‘me too’, but instead portrays a broader, balanced view of the culprit who bullies and intimidates men as much as he assaults women.
These sociological statements are interweaved throughout the plotlines, in a genius way, so as not to detract but to enhance an already superb story. A tremendous ability by Ms Comley, delivering powerful, affecting storytelling, and an allegorical tale that touches the heart in so many ways. I have already bought ‘In Plain Sight – Hero Series 3’, as I am both fascinated, intrigued and dare I say, addicted to seeing how our ‘Hero’ handles the next spate of crime on his patch, at the same time as balancing his event-packed home life. Crime drama lovers will adore End Result, and I recommend this book highly. It’s just a fabulous read.
This is the second book in the DI Hero Nelson series and even though I have read books four onwards in the series I realised I had not actually read the first three!! So after I realised I was going to have to self-isolate for several weeks I downloaded books one, two and three last night and got cracking on with my reading – I read book one straight away and loved it so dove straight in to this book, the second of the series End Result!
The book is a fast paced story that holds your attention right from the outset through to the brilliant ending – I had no idea who was responsible for the murders in the book and when I did find out the author has thrown a real curve ball and it was not what I had expected at all – and I loved that, it is not very often with the amount of books in this genre that I read that an author can still catch me off guard!!
The book was really good, it was very well done, there were plenty of twists that were in keeping with the plot and kept me fully engaged – I have to say I thought it was a fabulous story and it is definitely one that I will be recommending and I think it would be fine to read as a stand-alone too.
It is 5 stars from me for this one, it is a well-developed story, it has some brilliant characters and I thought it was a great addition to the series, I thought it was an excellent story – very highly recommended and so glad that I have decided to play catch up on my outstanding M. A. Comley books!
Hero become A a father of three, Fay gives birth to twin girls and Hero learns the pleasure of sleepless nights and a difficult case. Three men are murdered, the only link seems to be the widow of the first body found. She denies any involvement, having been identified by two eyewitnesses, she is arrested and held at Styal where she attempts suicide. Hero & Sally both have a feeling that Cathy Daws might be innocent, but the evidence to date and identification firmly point in her direction. They go and visit Cathy in hospital to find some answers, which results in Hero being stabbed, but they get their answers and wrap up the case. Sally /Foxy is partnering Hero, as Julie has just lost her mother and have to say, it's a much better pairing.
The second book in the Hero series & I could not put the book down! I really enjoy the style of writing in the Hero books and love how you get to know the characters & Heros family. I have read these all out of order which is something I hate doing but it hasn't really mattered. Yet another great series from Mel - thank you
How does Mel do it, although I have read dozens of her books this is only my second in the Hero series, they just get better and better but how she keeps details of the numerous characters I will never know, certainly confuses me, onto the next one ‘Deadly Act’.
An enjoyable follow up to the initial intoduction of this new detective He will definitely
be a favourite with fans of this author. Looking forward to more of the same. Brilliantly written and put together tale. A lovely fast pace makes this a must.
End Result (Hero Series #2) by Author M. A. Comley
I have only read one previous novel Virtual Justice (Justice Series Book #7) by seasoned Author M. A. Comley and I am delighted to have the opportunity to read another one of her intriguing mysteries. In this new series, the Prologue to "End Results" grabbed my attention right from the onset. The unexplained murder sets the pace for what is yet to come. Once I started reading this fictional crime novel, I had a tough time putting it down.
Moving on to Chapter One with the introduction of Hero Nelson, a supervisor for the Met Police Department, I was further drawn into the story line and the mysterious murder of Stu Daws. Garroted to death, the police seem to have little to go on but DI Nelson has the nose for crime solving. After the birth of his twin daughters Zoe and Zara, he is unable to take a leave of absence until he solves this crime. Julie his partner is distracted these days due to a personal crisis going on in her life but Hero Nelson forges ahead with his due diligence as he makes every effort to get to the bottom of this heinous crime. Now he has been informed of another death in his area...
DI Hero Nelson and partner DS Julie Shaw work in tandem along with the other copper members of their team to discover the connection between these two murders. It doesn't take long for Hero to get to the realization that Cathy Daws is the common thread. He certainly has his suspicions that Daws' wife Cathy is involved but she has a rock solid alibi to add to his frustration in solving this case. Regardless...he is relentless in pursuit of justice as he digs into the case to try to piece together the puzzle of clues in order to ferret out the murderer...or is it murderers? Only time will tell. He needs a break to crack this case wide open. Stan Foster might be able to help out there but...a third murder takes place. Once again, Cathy Daws has a "cast-iron" alibi. To add to Hero's frustration, what can he do to help his twin sister Cara out of the fine fix she's in, the one that could result in the end of her career?
I just love a good mystery and talented Author M. A. Comley has delivered just that. I realize that "End Result (Hero Series #2)" is the second book in this crime solving series but it is a stand alone novel and I never felt short changed by not reading the first one. Although, it does give me the itch to go back and do just that. However, I am going to revisit the first novel in the Justice Series. Today, I just downloaded a copy of Cruel Justice (Justice Series #1). I need another great mystery novel to read and this author sure knows how to deliver one!
I've always loved Comley's books but I think I have a little crush on Hero. There is just something about him that I love. I love the way he runs his team. I love the way he can get so down to business with the bad guys yet come home and cuddle the babies and help out with dinner. I love the relationship between him and his twin sister Cara. In this second book, Hero's life busier than ever when a man is killed in an alley and the only real suspect they have is the man's wife- but she has an alibi for the time of his murder. While trying to figure out this puzzle, Hero has brand-new infant twin daughters at home, his partner Julie has a personal crisis, and then Cara comes to him with a big problem she needs help with too. Of course, Hero plays up to his name and has to help out all of the people in his life, all the while trying to find the murderer. There is nothing slow about this book. It picks up from the first page and never lets down until the very last. A typically wonderful Comley thriller. Gotta love Hero!
END RESULT is another exciting story about Detective Hero. Confronted with several senseless murders, Hero must put the pieces together to find the culprit. All this while his family has almost doubled with the birth of twin girls. Hero is an exciting character. At work, he is cool, collected, and always in charge as he methodically tracks down the clues that lead to the killer. At home, he plays the role of dad and husband while trying to help his wife as much as possible and still set some time aside for his son. This is an exciting novel that will keep you turning the pages!
M A Comley. 2nd in series. End Result. You have no time to settle in to this book, it starts with a bang and does not let up until the very end. If you read the first Hero novel you are going to love this one, Hero never let's up and is truly a hero. A brilliant story well written by an author who just seems to be getting better as each nook goes by. I highly recommend this book. 5stars. 01 May 2014.
I have just started reading this series and LOVED THEM ...This is book 2 ( END RESULT ) follows on from TORN APART that was brilliant too..... Mel's writes so clearly with all her twists and turns you don't get confused but also don't guess the ending either. I'm hoping there will be more in this series I know there is a short story that follows this DEADLY ACT. Which I'm going to jump right into now....
I'm a huge fan of Mel Comley's books and this one is no exception. The reader is hurtled into a fast-paced plot full of murder, suspense, and the hectic family life of DI Hero Nelson.
Another thrilling read by Mel Comley that won't disappoint. It's a rollercoaster of a read that I couldn't put down once I started! It can be read as a standalone novel or as part of the Hero Series.
