In the fourth book in the Bat, Cat & Rat series—a companion to the Theodor Seuss Geisel Award–winning Vacation—from New York Times bestsellers Ame Dyckman and Mark Teague, the roommates bring their own fun to some classic fall festivities in three-and-a-half sweet and silly stories.
Fall is here, and it brings a slew of exciting autumnal adventures for best friends Bat, Cat, and Rat, from leaf-raking romps to peculiar pumpkin picking to the trials of trick-or-treating.
In “Raking,” falling leaves make for extra chores—and extra pranks.
In “Picking,” each member of the trio has their own unique idea about what makes the perfect pumpkin.
In “Costuming,” the roommates each work on their costume creations in secret, and the big reveal brings a big surprise!
Bat, Cat, and Rat’s irresistible friendship and amusing antics are sure to have kids laughing along.
In the words of our characters, I love it! It's perfect! Exactly the kind of book I need more of in my library. A "chapter book" for early readers with repetition and sweet silliness. I want to buy them all.
Young readers/listeners of this series are sure to enjoy this seasonal collection of short stories. As with Book #2 ("Vacation"), the author cleverly infuses humor and creative problem-solving through the characters' interactions.
Publication Date: 2025 Format: Early reader chapter book (fiction) Elements: 4 short stories told in limited text (2 related to fall activities; 2 related to Halloween); rhyming character names Connection/Topics: Work vs. vacation, saving, problems/solutions, conflict/compromise
This was so cute! There's a story about raking leaves (that was my least favorite because it made it seem like jumping in a leaf pile is a rude thing to do...), a story about picking pumpkins (my favorite of the three - and a half- stories as each character's pumpkin was unique and the others supported them) and a story about Halloween costumes. Oh and a half story about Halloween treats.
Fall festivities for the rhyming trio: leaf raking, pumpkin patch, costumes. Love the half story format and surprise endings for the series. Ame Dyckman books are always a hoot!
