From Book 1: ***NEW YORK TIMES and USA TODAY Bestseller***
HIM
Sarah Miller hasn’t been home in seven years. She thought she could stay away forever. If it wasn’t for her big brother's wedding, that is. Part of her even feels silly for staying away this long. It's not like anyone even knew what happened. Well, except for him.
That guy. The one she compared all others to. The one who set the bar so high no other guy after him could even compete. The one who made her feel like anything was possible. The one she thought she would never be good enough for. The one she spent the last seven years trying to forget. All she needs to do is make it through the next week without running into him.
Him - 4 stars This is actually the second time I've read this book. I read it not long after it first came out and while I remembered enjoying it, I couldn't remember the details well enough to write a review or read Her, so I knew I needed to read it again. Within a few chapters, nearly everything came back to me and I got to experience Sarah's love and heartbreak all over again.
Ms. Heywood does an outstanding job alternating Sarah's current visit home for her brother's wedding with the past when her relationship with Will moved from just friends to boyfriend-girlfriend to heartbreak. It was refreshing to see two genuinely nice people acknowledge their feelings for one another and watch their relationship grow and deepen. Alas, the world is full of miserable people who do what they can to insure they have company and two of those persons sabotaged Sarah and Will’s budding relationship. Because of the way in which the author alternates between the present and the past, the reader is well into the book before all the facts come to light and this makes for a very captivating read.
This was just as lovely of a read the second time around. Him is a sweet romance, plain and simple; the characters have amazing chemistry yet the sex scenes are written in more of a fade-to-black television style scene – you know they had sex, but the details are kept private. Ms. Heywood does an excellent job of capturing young love and giving Sarah and Will the second chance they deserve. I am looking forward to reading Her as I am quite interested to read their story from Will's perspective.
Her - 4 stars I reread Him before starting Her so that I could reacquaint myself with Sarah and Will’s story. Where Him is narrated from Sarah’s perspective, Her is Will’s side of their story. I will admit slight reservations that this would simply be a rehashing of Him, Ms. Heywood surprised me be telling Will’s story in a linear fashion as opposed to the alternating past and present style used in Sarah’s story.
This allowed her to begin Will’s story with the first time he really noticed Sarah and how his feelings toward her changed over time. I found the information on Will’s family situation sad and my heart hurt for Will the boy. As the reader knows the things that Will doesn’t when their relationship breaks down, it makes his reactions that much more heartbreaking – to know that he loved Sarah as much as he loved her and to lose her through no fault of his own is tragic. As the story moves to the present and you witness that Will is in as much pain as Sarah over their separation, it makes for a difficult read. But this makes the story that much sweeter once Will goes to Colorado with Sarah for the summer.
Fortunately for the reader, Ms. Heywood takes the story beyond where it ended in Him and we get to see what Sarah and Will endure as they move their relationship forward. The author keeps a level of realism in the book by not letting things go perfectly. There are bumps and turns on their path forward, but as they overcome them, it just helps to strengthen their relationship – especially when those bumps are other people flirting with them. Fortunately, they do move forward and find their way to their happy ending.
Ms. Heywood has written a lovely companion novel that serves to enrich Sarah and Will’s story without it being a regurgitation of material from Him. It allows the reader to connect with Will and feel the heartbreak that he went through as well. I will say that I absolutely LOVED the proposal scene and felt that it was perfect for this couple. I look forward to reading more of Ms. Heywood’s writing in the future.
"Him" was worth 3.5- 4 stars. However, "Her" was definitely worth 3. It was so dry. I though I was reading two different authors. It was as though I was reading a manuscript. I couldn't believe it. It was written as though a robot was talking. "I went here, I did this, I felt this." Too bad. I had higher hopes.
This is one of my fave romance reads ever. Sarah and Will deserve all the happiness coming their way after losing 7 years due to an almost tragic misunderstanding that I blame on Sarah’s youthful insecurity. Will deserves sainthood I tell you. He is the perfect book boyfriend, love him.
I’ve been reading this book over and over since high school and love it so so much. I love the coming of age aspect, and how it flips from past to present. 5 stars to Carey Heywood
TWO AMAZING BOOKS TOGETHER AS A SET! What more could you want? Go one click this before you regret ever existing!! LOL
HIM ~ BOOK 1 Why? Well let me tell you, I opened the book and could not put it down, I actually fell asleep holding this book, IT is your typical second chance story. BUT the difference for me is Carey put me right there with Sarah and Will, So many emotions!!! I was right there for the ride!! I loved Will so much and wanted, this to be a happy ever after book, AND every book I read I don't think well at the end of the book it will all be ok. I try to envision what they would feel and not know if it is all going to work out or not! Don't burst my bubble!! It works. LOL
Sarah fell in love with her best friend Will, but she doesn't think she is good enough for him, she is not rich like he is or from the same circle that his family is from, does Will care NO! BUT Sarah does. And well her insecurities get the best of her and she assumes something and leaves, did he do what she thinks he did?
IDK you will have to read to find out! This was an emotional roller coaster for me, Carey goes from past to present with each chapter, I do hate that sometimes, but I loved it in this book, it felt like reading two books:) and I wanted to keep reading or jump to the next chapter to find out what was going to happen.
So to wrap this up, YES you need to read this book! It is a great romance about first love, real love, sadness, mistakes, and second chances!! And so much more. It is about understanding, and forgiving, and LOVE !!! Carey is a great writer and I can't wait to read more from her!! Thank you Carey for a great book! I look forward to more of your books!! You are amazing!!!
HER BOOK 2
I gave this book 5 beautiful stars. This is book 2 in the series, you should definitely read book one because this is book is in Will's POV.
In book one we hear Sarah's side of the story. Now you get to hear Will's . . The first and foremost thing that I loved about this book is that it was different. Different how you ask? Well have you ever read a second book that is the others POV and it is basically all the same? Yeah I have too. But this one is not.. There are a few that of course you have to have so you know where the heck they cross in the book .. .But this is 100% from Will's POV and you also get to see things that you did not see in the first book, so not only is it different it dives in deeper into the story. And if you read book one.. which you should have if you haven't what are you waiting for go do it now!!!
Sarah comes home after being away for 7 years for her brothers wedding, she left because something happened between her and Will and it left her broken. BUT did Will do the things that she thinks he did? And if he didn't then whey didn't he come after her and set things right?
This will tell you exactly what happened and why. And maybe give Sarah and Will a second chance at what should have happened in the first place a HEA!
Things happened, things got said, and feelings got hurt, now seven years later Will and Sarah have a chance to make it right. And though it will be rough they have a second chance, Sarah's walls are up because of past hurts that came from Will or so she believes. And Will is hurt because she just left she never asked questions she never came to him and asked him what was going on. OR did she??
pick up this great book and see what everyone is talking about. This series is a must read!! Thank you Carey for your beautiful book! I can't wait to read what you have coming up next!! I am just sad that Sarah and Will's story is over.
A cute romance story with an interesting perspective. I found myself compelled to read on as the mystery unfolded between the past and the present. Then, when another perspective came along, I worried it would be repetitive, but was glad to see it was a refreshing look from the other side. Overall a cute story with some steamy scenes and nice characters (Sawyer was my favorite).
These books introduced me to Carey's amazing writing. Sarah and will have the most amazing relationship as best friends that develops into so much more. Then it takes a devastating turn and Sarah runs away. 7 years later she bumps into him On a flight home for her brothers wedding. Will is determined to make her his once more, and he's willing to fight for it!
I adore this series, so much feeling throughout the whole thing. You go from feeling Sarah's pain at the realisation that she's lost Will, to the hope Will carries when he knows he's going to see her again.
I've re-read them a few times now and each time I love them a little more!!! Absolutely 5 🌟 x
I usually do not buy box sets but this one intrigued me and I dove right it. Four hours later I finished both books. (No Spoiler Review)
Writing Style: The writing style was relatable and allowed the reader to feel comfortable with the character development. It was insightful to go into past and present situations as each correlated with each other in some aspect of the characters life.
Him: Well that lip biting William Price is adorably sexy and what can I say I am a sucker for blue eye dark hair guys-- shoot me. I was pulled through different emotions while reading this book. I really felt confused as to why Will was confused and why she was so hurt but damn when it came to light I wanted to kick someone. You will see who I mean and she's an evil evil wench. But Swoon HEA-- Onward---
Her: I love when authors allow the reader to know what the guy was thinking during these epic moments and I fell even harder for Will. Insert Sigh. But truth be told it was really the fact that he was so head over heels for Sarah. I love that she was this normal gal that's completely ordinary in her mind but she surpassed her own beauty in his eyes. That is something all women want, that they are the most beautiful woman to the man they love. But boy did I cry during oh wait no spoiler-- Get your hanky for the end y'all.
Covers: 1 Star Opening: 1 Star Character Development: 1 Star Conclusion: 1 Star Storyline: 1/2 Star
Overall 4.5 I want Will to be my next baby daddy stars.
Him and Her box set is of course just two books put together. I absolutely adore in the way that Carey Heywood wrote the story. Best friends throughout middle school and high school Sarah and Will finally have the courage admitting their feelings to each other.
Just like any other couple they have their ups and downs. Unfortunately though one crazy situation makes Sarah leave. After Sarah believe that she's not good enough for Will she ends up running away to live with her uncle.
After seven years Sarah has to return back to her hometown because her brother is getting married. Sarah doesn't want to go back because she does not want to relive the heart ache. But Will is ready for Sarah to come back so he can find out why she left him heartbroken seven years ago.
After finally breaking Sarah's stubbornness Will finds out why she left and he wants to make sure that she'll never leave him again. Will he be able to persuade her that they'll be able to live happily ever after? Or will Sarah run away again in hopes of never having to feel heartbreak again?
I am absolutely happy than I give this book set a chance. I felt like I really got know the characters. I can't wait to find out what happens to them in the next book. Until then, happy reading. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.
Ok, so I got this box set for 99 cents which is an automatic bonus as far as I am concerned.
The first book in the set is Him as told from Sarah's POV. It is about Sarah's feelings for Will (a.k.a. Him). I feel like this book kind of sets the backstory for the next book in the set (Her). It is good but rated almost PG-13...meaning the sex scenes aren't super graphic which makes sense, because they are young in most of the sexual encounters in this book. This book goes back and forth from past and present, all from Sarah's POV.
The second book in the set is Her as told from Will's POV. Although there are some scenes that are reiterated, it's not a complete re-tell of book one. The sex scenes are a bit more steamy and definitely move out of the PG-13 range. I LOVED this book, finished it in one day. It seemed to move quicker because all the backstory was given in book one. While book one alternated between past and present, this book started at the "beginning" and only moved forward. Also, there is additional present day story in this book that was not in book one!YAY! There is no epilogue but hoping to get more of a peek at Will and Sarah in Sawyer Says!!
So Heart Warming, I Loved It!!!!!!!!!, May 8, 2015 By Toni Myers
This review is from: Him & Her Box Set (Kindle Edition) This is such a heart warming love story, I fell in love with Will and Sarah. Will has pretty much been in love with Sarah since 7th grade, they became best friends in high school, and became inseparable. Will always wanted more with Sarah but he would never step over the friendship line afraid she didn't feel the same way, he didn't want to ruin their friendship, little did he know Sarah feels the same way about him. It would be so Amazing to have a best friend like Will, his heart is so full of love, and he is so caring, Sarah is one lucky girl, and to be in love with your best friend, it doesn't get any better than that. Sawyer is the coolest best friend ever and an amazing friend to Sarah, love her. I was really upset with Will's Mom, she had no right to interfere, it was so wrong, and hurtful what she did. Jessica was such a Jealous Bit**, I wanted to slap her more than once. The ending had me in tears, so many emotions going through me.. Just downloaded (Them book 3), can't wait to read it. Carey Heywood never disappoints, her books are awesome! See your review on the site
Her is in Will's POV This book gives a little bit of a difference of what Will went through but most of it is just a retelling of the first book. Truthfully, I skimmed so much of this book within under an hour because I did not care to reread what I just read. I guess it would of been a different story if I didn't read them back to back.
Him is in Sarah's POV I had this box set for a while and decided to read something different. This actually wasn't what I had expected so I was surprised in what direction the author took us. The story wasn't an original by far though. I have read a lot of books about misunderstandings and how it separates the two main characters until they realize either one made a mistake or find out their never was a mistake to begin with and all this time apart should of never really happened.
The author did take it up a notch and twisted up the revealing of how the misunderstanding happened on both POVs which I really think if you truly love someone, you would fight to find out why and what happened. That is just me though. I still gave it 4 stars on the first book because over all was pretty good.
This was a really good read. I loved him and was so heartbroken when she left. When I started to read Her I thought it is just the same thing with his POV. Boy was I wrong! Yes it does have his POV with a lot of the same stuff in Him but a whole lot more! I loved the hurt they both had with what happened but more so with why and neither of them knowing. When she finally opened up and told him what happened it was so emotional. If only everyone could find true love like they had to endure what they did would be fantastic. My only downside is when he found out what his mother did. Granted she was in some type of emotional state since the death of her daughter but no excuse. I think Will yelling at her for what she did should have been what snapped her out of her state followed through with everything else that Sawyer did for her. All in all it was a fantastic read and I look forward to reading Sawyer says.
Him- Sarah Miller hasn’t been home in seven years, this is her story. Sarah and Will were best friends forever then one day he broke up with his girlfriend and took a chance on telling Sarah how he felt about her. They were happy and in love, but evil ex-girlfriends and not so nice mothers get in the way of true love. Sarah and Will can have a second chance if she will just talk to him and let him explain what she thinks she knows. Sweet
Her- Will Price was partnered with Sarah Miller in sixth grade and they became best friends all thru high school, until he realized he was in love with her. Will put his heart out there and Sarah chose him. One day she left with no explanation, no note, nothing. Will’s heart was broken. Seven years later Will has a week to get Sarah back when she comes home for her brother’s wedding. I really enjoyed Will’s POV though a lot of it was the same as in Him. I love getting further into their story past the one week and the ending.
This was such a great love story that many can relate to. I really enjoyed that this was a boxset but one book was Will’s POV and the others was Sara’s. It allows you to see the story from two sides and really get engrossed in the plot. The pace of the books was matched perfectly. I never felt rushed or bored with any part. I loved that both Will and Sara has moved forward in their lives but never really got over their love for one another. It shows that love is everlasting no matter the struggles. Fate in the end will work itself out. I really enjoy Carey’s writing style. I fall into her books easily and enjoy them immensely. Her characters are so easy to connect with and her secondary characters really add to the books. Sawyer is someone I could totally be best friends with and I will have to pick up her book too. A may have just found my new one click author. I do suggest getting the boxset for these books so you can see both POV’s.
Amazon Kindle had a freebie Him&Her set when I decided to grab a copy. If you're interested in reading it, maybe it still is free...
My thoughts regarding Him:
Anyways, I had quite high hopes for this one but unfortunately I did not fall in love with the story, the heroine (what a surprise there) nor the hero. You know why? Because the entire book is built on two tiny misunderstandings that could have been solved by talking to each other for 2 minutes. TWO MINUTES. I find it very hard to believe that two people who are supposed to be quite smart, are not capable of communicating with each other for seven years. SEVEN YEARS!
I really enjoyed Sarah and Will's story. Him was told from Sarah's POV and alternated between the past and present. I loved the best friends to lovers storyline and the fact that they were given a second chance together. Will and Sarah had an amazing connection and the author told a beautiful love story. Her was told from Will's POV and not only filled in some gaps from Him but also gave included what happened next with the couple. Loved the proposal!!
Overall, this was a great boxed set and I'm so glad that I was able to read both books together. Only issue, books dragged a bit at times and rushed in others. Looking forward to reading Them!
I love best friends to adult lovers stories and this one was amazing!! Will and Sarah meet in middle school where the have to partner for a project. From there their friendship grows. Both afraid to make the move to more than friends because they don't want to lose each other. By senior year Will decided now or never. They are happy, but as we all experience something bad to take it all away. So can Will and Sarah fix the broken. I also love how his point of view was not retelling the first book. I loved the back story of how it all started. It gave you more insight to their relationship.
I enjoyed the story and there were lessons to be learned, like communication, even if you're young. Also, doesn't matter how much money your family has or the neighborhood you live in. Being a smoky is much more than about money. The only thing I didn't care for about the story was the immaturity of Sarah. She had a normal typical family life but seemed pretty blind to relationships and there really wasn't an underlying reason for her constant running away from facing issues other than immaturity.
Love, loved it! I loved the past and present in Him and in Her will's POV so genius! One of the best man's POV and I really loved dual POV's but this is pure genius written! Lovedd Will and Sarah and. The secondary characters especiually Sawyer, there is more story to tell for Sawyer and I was glad that Sawyer gets her own story. We don not have to wait long woohoooooo! I can NOT WAIT I'll one clicking that one and she's an author to look out for!
I love when I get box sets and don't have to wait for the next book in the series!!! The love story between Will and Sarah is one that rarely happens. Loving each other from middle school but not really admitting it til being seniors. Then the "bad girl" ruins it and it takes them another 7 years before they meet again and talk. The rest is history!!!! Loved it!!!
Never read this author before but will again. Everything "flowed" so both books were easy reading without being overly predictable. 7 years to get together?? The author pulled it off, suspense, romance, a bit of comedy, and infinitely likable characters. Esp got a kick out of Sawyer and her pink hair, attitude, and outrageous attitude. Nicknames like "miller lite" both cute and fitting. A fun read.
I'm not generally a fan of ya books but the mix between high school and adult really works in this story. It's about two young best friends falling in love and then having an event separate them for several years before being reunited. Ms. Heywood tells the story in a way that is fresh and you don't feel like you've read anything similar before. I could see this playing out as a movie in my mind. I loved it and I can't wait to start Them.
Loved the first book, Him ... but was hesitant about the second book ... I personally steer clear of retelling of the same story, but Carey Heywood pleasantly surprised me. There are times when you know what's going to happen from having read Him, but in Her you get insight into Will that wasn't apparent before. I thoroughly enjoyed both books in this set!
We get to hear from both sides in this box set. Sarah goes first, then Will. Their story is sweet - and one of my favourite tropes: friends-to-lovers. Watching their love "grow up" was entertaining, to say the least. And the secondary characters are a great complement.
I loved reading these series and getting both perspectives of their stories. it's refreshing reading Sara thought & felt, then going to Will's perspective in the next book. this set was worth the 0.99!!!
These two books were so good. They complimented each other really well. I love male POVs. We would all be so lucky to have a BFF like Will Price. I'm lucky I got these in a box set for less than paying for both books but they would have been worth it.
I really loved HIM however when I got to HER it fell short. Even though it was telling the story in his POV I felt like it lacked is actual feelings towards the story where in HIM Sarah's feelings were so strong. I still really enjoyed it though. Very sweet love story.
