'I had two things which not many had—an impossible dream that made every tomorrow worth waiting for, and a pain that not everyone was blessed with.'
Author Sourabh Mukherjee’s “Nargis - Through My Summers” is a love story that goes beyond a conventional ‘happily ever after’ ending and offers realistic views of the variety of emotions one goes through when love comes calling. A slice of life in the true sense, the story takes us on a soulful journey as we relive loves lost or found or nurtured unprofessed in the deepest recesses of our hearts.
Appreciation for Nargis-Through my Summers:
‘A story which evokes yearning in our hearts, pushing the hands of time. Sourabh is economic in his choice of words, and allows the reader's imagination to play. His style is that of a master story-teller and the build-up is strong. The end has a twist that rhymes well with the elevated level of this story. This is just the beginning; we want many more from you. Readers: THIS IS A MUST READ.’ – Amazon ‘This book is a must read for all romantics and "cynics" in equal measure. It’s a beautiful story, written in an extremely simple, subtle and poignant style. The way the story unfolded was beautiful yet unexpected’ – Amazon ‘A lucid read. I really liked how the author articulated the inner feelings of the protagonist. Also, must appreciate the in-depth description of emotions. I could almost visualize the scenes opening up and enacting in front of my eyes. It also got me nostalgic and took me on a trip down memory lane. The suspense of the story has been well kept under wraps.’ – Amazon ‘Oh what a treat it was! Just the right amount of text and right amount of storytelling. The ending was unexpected, but it made so much sense.’ - Goodreads ‘Just finished reading the story and have to say the ending was astounding! Really impressed. I have already read this story in Sourabh Mukerjee's latest collection of short stories 'Romance Shorts'. I quickly review it once again.
With this one story, I would say Sourabh Mukherjee is not an author he is a magician. The boy waited long and long to tell his beloved that how much he love her and no one else can love her the way he does. But, he never did so. He waited, he dreamed and one day saw her married off.
Read it, it will not take much time, I am sure you will mesmerized by his Charisma.
Sourabh Mukherjee has left his mark through this book: Nargis - Through My Summers. A story which evokes the yearning in our own heart, pushing the hands of time, praying for the boy to succeed in catching the eyes of Nargis. All of us, in our by-gone age, must have mentally waited for our Nargis. Sourabh is economic in his choice of words, tells a little, allows the reader's imagination to play in full speed, will the boy succeed or will he not. Sourabh evokes the curiosity in our heart. The style is that of a master story-teller and the build-up is strong. Nargis grows in front of our eyes through these few pages. End is having a twist, that rhymes well with the high level of this story. Sourabh: this is just the beginning, we want many many more, from you. Readers: THIS IS A MUST READ.
Review #2- Oh what a treat it was! Just the right amount of text and right amount of story telling with minimum characters (something which really works well for me as I tend to forget characters too easily :P) The ending was unexpected, but it made all so much sense with that last line in the story. It almost seemed to me as if a puzzle was solved in all the readers' minds... it made all sense to me after all.
Review #3- Just finished reading the story and have to say the ending was astounding !!! A bit 'kafkaesque'.. really impressed ... the buildup was awesome and the last chapter breath taking .... looking forward to the next story ... kudos to this first-time author!
Review #4- This book is a must read for all the romantics and "cynics" in equal measure. Me, being the cynic i am as far as romantic stories are concerned, was surprised by how much the book touched me. Wouldn't want to give the story away here. So, will keep my comments short & sweet. Its a beautiful story, written in an extremely simple, subtle and poignant style. The story keeps drawing you in and you can't let go till you reach the end. The way the story unfolded was beautiful yet unexpected. Really recommend this book.
Review #5- Nargis- Through my Summers- Is really a lucid read…..I really liked how you articulated the inner feelings of the protagonist. Also, must appreciate the in-depth description of emotions and the detailed visual effect of our very well-known and well lived Kolkata that we all have grown up in and are so familiar with…..the frequent load sheddings, the people accumulating on their terraces to get some respite from the sweltering heat and humidity, the nonchalant fanning of hand fans….the long wait for the most wanted Nor’westers….!!!...I could almost visualize the scenes opening up and enacting in front of my eyes….It also helped me getting nostalgic and took me to a trip down my memory lane….!!!
The suspense of the story has been well kept under the wraps. So for sure you’ve well stitched and well-timed it like all pro story tellers. Last but not the least it's not a run of the mill clichéd story where the endings are always.... "and they lived happily ever after"....
