If there’s one thing Devon likes most, it’s chaos. They have a chaotic mind and a messy house, and they throw their characters into every calamitous situation possible. When they aren’t writing, they’re editing or formatting other authors’ works, building websites, creating graphics, reading, playing video games, or watching Fortnite streams on Twitch. They like to stay busy. So yes. Chaos.
End of 2024 project: Picking up books I’ve gotten for free that are rotting away in my kindle…without reading the blurb.
This one wasn’t half bad. Too bad I can’t remember much of anything about it to do a proper review 🤭
”I, Lucas Davenport, do hereby swear to spend the next three hundred sixty-five days possessed body and soul by the demon, Asherus, as his dedicated sexual pet and submissive. During this time, I shall relinquish ownership of the BDSM club, Hunger, for the same term length. Should I break this contract or make Asherus unhappy with my behavior or actions, I forfeit my eternal soul to spend the rest of eternity in Hell.”
This is a really short novella, but it really packs a punch. It's a quick and spicy read. Lucas is the owner of a club and is trying to save his sister and he unkowingly summons a demon. Asherus is rudely summoned and he signs a contract with Lucas, the contract has Lucas submitting to him for a year so he can save his sister and his club. Asherus quickly realizes that what he's feeling is different and and they are fated mates. Thankfully Lucas also felt the pull, but is scared because this is all happening in the span of a couple hours.
It was a fun read and I would have read at least another 100 pages with this couple. I do kind of feel like the story was a bit rushed and maybe making it a longer novella would have helped that aspect, but I still really enjoyed it. Paranormal books are the ones where I never question insta-love and it's always believable to me.
Definitely recommend for a quick and spicy read with a demon and a human, if that is what you're in the mood for.
Hunger is about Lucas who is trying to save his dying sister and Asherus the Demon General he sells himself to. I love books with BDSM elements in them and I really enjoyed this one. I love novellas because they are quick reads. It was great watching these two figure out their relationship. It was interesting watching Devon who always thought he was a Dom become a submissive. I really enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it.
I like novellas and short stories, they have to be really well done though. Here, I don’t really understand the couple, it feels like dubious con, he’s kind of coerced into it because of the contract (for his sister), but he does it reluctantly and it felt all wrong for me. If Asherus would have introduced Lucas to submission bit by bit, or at least a tad slower… but no. And in front of others besides. I don’t get the suden change from dom to sub either (it was not mentioned in the blurb and it didn’t add up), and the ignored “Don’t do it (…) please” did for me, no respect nor consideration for his partner. Which are, by the way, ground rules in BDSM. The tingles, sensations, attachments or possessiveness of a probably fated mates relationship don’t do anything for me without respect and consent. Not for me.
"His lower lip wobbled as if his exhaustion were about to lead to an emotional breakdown."
This is my first book by new to me author, Devon Vesper, I quite enjoyed it. Who doesn't like demons with a little BDSM thrown in??? This was also a quick read which is a bonus for me. When new to me authors have some quick read books it gives me the ability to sample their style without expending a lot of time. I will definitely be picking up more stories from this author. I like the fact that at the back of the book there are several little blurbs for several different books written by this author.
One thing that threw me off, at the very beginning of the book, was the main character's name - Lucas Davenport, other than that the story was truly enjoyable. Maybe the author is a fan of John Sanford or maybe it was just a coincidence?
I would definitely read another book with these guys and the club, the author barely scratched the surface. I'm thinking, prequel for a new series, not so subtle hint here!
I absolutely devoured this book! Omg loved it so much! It’s sooooo cute, and at the same time extremely hot and spicy, and romantic too. Loved reading Lucas and Asherus relationship forming and the ending was absolutely perfect! Would love a sequel for this story! Read the entire book in 1 sitting (that’s a pro to spending 3+ hours in the car) and was so sad when it was over. Absolutely recommend this book!
I know it is a short story, but it was rushed. They went from a contract with a demon to fated mates in a few hours. I think it would have been better if the demon recognized his fated matre instantly. No need for a 2nd contract and he would have shown some respect to Lucas from the beginning. I think if this was a little longer, even 20 pages, it would have been better. Or even an epilogue telling us how they are a year from when the book ends. I received a complimentary copy of this book through GRR for my honest review. angst 1/5 heat 2/5 story 3/5 POV dual
Hunger by Devon Vesper is the short story of a down on his luck human who is about to lose everything and the demon he summons that takes care of business, both literally and figuratively. Lucas Davenport is doing everything he can to take care of his sister, Sarah, who is dying of cancer. He owns a club that caters to people with certain needs as well as the legit restaurant above it and has given all the money he has as well as mortgaged the businessees to the hilt in order to pay for her treatment. Now the creditors have come calling and it looks like he might lose everything. Then Curtis, one of his workers, takes him to a back room in the club, draws a circle, and helps him summon Demon General Asherus Tornovron. Asherus is quite surprised to be summoned and when Devon tells him he wants him to save his sister and his assets he says he will do it only if Devon agrees to be his pleasure pet and give him his club for a year. Devon is taken aback but will do anything to save his sister so he agrees and signs a contract. Immediately Asherus uses him as his toy and this continues through the rest of the story with some very hot BDSM and love scenes. While both of them think this will only be for a year, something strange is happening between them as the attraction grows to be more than using each other for pleasure. Devon always thought he was a dom but being submissive to Asherus gives him peace and takes him away from his troubles. Asherus never thought he would want just one person but there is something about Devon that draws him in, especially when he finally discovers that he is his mate. This brings about signing a new contract between them that makes them equal mates who will love each other through eternity. I enjoyed this short story. You feel for Devon and what he is going through and when Asherus appears he takes over and is very dominant. Things progress very quickly and you can feel their attraction grow, especially as they care for each other. I recommend this book if you like a quick read with lots of hot scenes between a demon and a human that find out they need each other.
4.5 I very much enjoyed this story by new-to-me author Devon Vesper - such a perfect treat for spooky season and any other.
Lucas is the owner of the club Hunger, which he has mortgaged to the hilt (along with all his other assets) in order to financially help his sister beat cancer. Alas, medical science isn't enough and she is dying and Lucas is beyond broke. Lucas is at the end of his rope, so he goes to seek solace, possibly for the last time, at his club Hunger, where he also plays the role of Dom. A cute twink helps him out by helping him conjure the Demon General Asherus and he and Lucas enter into a contract to help Lucas's sister and to get Lucas out of debt. However, within moments of their meeting, it is clear that what they have goes beyond contractual obligations. Is Fate at play here?
The parameters of a novella/short story limit what we get here, but I love the vibes! I definitely wish this had been longer, so that some things could have gone into greater detail and so that we could have some explanations (like where did Curtis come from, where do Asher and Lucas go from here, etc). Ok, so I just really loved this story and this couple and would have just enjoyed *more* from them. However, what we get is spicy, wonderful, and surprisingly romantic. Yes, there's insta-lust, but it's acknowledged that they need time for deeper feelings to develop between them...sigh....I loved that too.
Thanks to GRR for this ARC - this is my honest review.
Annnnd I've procrastinated again. So many ARCs due and so little time. Here's "Hunger" by Devon Vesper. At least this is a quick read ;)

This book was a little fast and roller-coaster-y on the "what am I doing/feeling" versus "this feels so right somehow". HOWEVER, it was also so incredibly sweet and dreamy, in a weird demon summoning kinda way.
Still, I don't regret adding Devon to my To Binge list (even if he's still were he was a few months ago).
This novella is less than 50 pages, but it really packs a lot in a little! Lucas Davenport is a human at his breaking point, on the verge of losing everything in his desperation to save his sister, who is dying of cancer. He seeks refuge at his club, hoping to enjoy whatever time he has left there before he's forced to sell.
Then a friend tricks him into summoning Ash, a demon who can give Lucas all he desires...for a price. Lucas and Ash enter into a contract and Ash not only fulfills Lucas's requests, he helps him connect to his submissive side and see the joy in being cared for. It doesn't take long for Ash to realize that a year-long contract with Lucas won't be nearly enough time together.
I enjoyed the story and the writing style. It is a very fast moving plot with plenty of heat. I thought the author did a good job dodging plot holes that would otherwise disrupt the story. I also appreciated that they didn't rush the feelings. The entire story takes place over about 2 days, maybe less. So it's fitting that Lucas isn't professing his eternal love for Ash, but the possibility is there. It's an HFN, but the HEA is promised.
"My mind's tellin' me no, but my body, my body's tellin' me yes" . Man oh man. Lucas and Asherus are hotter than hot. Make sure you are ready for a cold shower after this quick novella. Lucas owns Hunger and just wants to do right by his sister. He plays the role and in his case it is the role of a Dom. He's is not dominant but being a Dom allows him full control of his current circumstances. Curtis a half demon aims to comfort Lucas after a tough night with his sister. Instead of comfort he offers a way to get all that ever desires. While Asherus is mid stroke he is summoned to take care of an issue. Lucas is completely unaware of what is happening but willing to do what he can to appease this new opportunity. Asherus is angry but also intrigued by this human. Asherus is a full Dom so he contracts Lucas to be his sub and relinquish ownership of Hunger. Lucas agrees and is blown away when he is able to give up control so easily and willingly to this demon. He experiences pleasures like never before but it's just he contract right? They couldn't possibly have this kind of connection and feelings, right? Well I guess you'll have to grab this story and find out just how deep this goes. But add it to your TBR and read it before this month ends!!
This is a really short quick novella. It is also very spicy in certain scenes. If you want a quick read, then this will be the book for you.
Lucas owns his BDSM club Hunger and he is trying to also take care of his sister who is dying. All the funds he had are dried up and now has collectors coming after him. He summons a demon with knowing as he was with his friend but when he sees Asherus, he can't help but feel something. All his life he has always took charge but when Asherus takes control, it's so new for Lucas. He can't help but like how he feels when Asherus is the one doing things to him.
The more Asherus & Lucas are together, the more the feelings start to happen. When Asherus realizes what it is, he has to let Lucas know and he can only hope that Lucas will stay. If he does, Asherus plans on doing something that Lucas won't expect.
I received an ARC through Gay Romance Reviews and this is my honest review.
A short read the packs a punch Firstly, let me say I got this book from gay romance reviews, and this is me leaving my honest review. This is a brand-new auther to me and I’ve got to say I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The big question is what would you do to save your sister and keep pyour business your livelihood?? When Lucas was given an option to sell his soul to a Demond in exchange for his sisters life and not to lose his business or be in debt. What would you do?? Lucas signed in Blood on contract. And what happens after that is, passion connection chemistry I wanted more. This book was about a whole New World and I really would like a series About the club and the way Lucas and ash run it. A thoroughly good read it is short but it’s so worth a read.
Hunger is a 10k word meet-cute Demon story. A super fast read with BDSM elements and demon/human spice. Lucas is willing to try anything to save his sister from cancer and his club forfeiture. Unbeknownst to Lucas, his resident twink is half demon and helps Lucas fix his problems by summoning Asherus. The Demon General offers a contract, cures his sister and delights in making Dom Lucas submit. After some epic BDSM erotica, Asher decides Lucas is his fated mate. Not many words available to carry on with this story so a HFN ending with a forever contract and a Dom who has had his eyes opened to his submissive side.
This is a short story full of steam and it just makes me wish it was longer! I really felt for Lucas and his situation; I'm glad he got his HEA with Asherus by the end and they were enjoyable to read together. If I had my way, I'd want to see this expanded a bit to get some more world building and depth to the characters - I think it has a lot of potential for more. Overall, it's a good short story with steamy scenes, just wish it didn't end so soon.
Short, 45 mins and spicy makes this perfect bedtime reading. Who wouldn't want a good looking, caring Demon to take care of them, even if they had always thought they were a Dom? I really enjoyed this short story. There's very little angst, enough plot to move the story along and great characters. I especially enjoyed the summoning and if this was ever expanded to a full book, I would definitely read it
This is a quick read, and I mean more of a short story than a novella, but it pulls you into the story from the first page. Lucas is a wreck. His sister is dying of cancer and despite owning a successful club, he's on the verge of losing it. Then one of his staff helps him summon a demon and he gets everything he wants and more. Asherus shows Lucas what he's been missing and also solves the biggest problems for him. A good short read.
I really liked the premise of this story - man makes a deal with a demon to save his sister, but the execution was just too quick. There were quite a few, what I would call, inconsistencies and it gave the story a sort of stuttering rhythm. It just didn't flow smoothly and, while I enjoyed pieces of it, had a hard time committing to it as a whole. I think with a little work it could definitely be tightened up but as it stands I could only give it 3*.
It was too short! That is my only negative! Another winner from Devon! Such a fun read about a BDSM club owner summoning a Demon to save his sister! Sounds simple but Lucas's story is anything but. The demon Asherus realises that they are fated mates which scares Lucas as things are happening too fast and also making him realise he is more submissive than he thought! A thoroughly enjoyable book. I received a free arc copy and this is my honest review
The book was a fast burn but felt more rushed on the sense of people agreeing to things in a span of time that isn’t really realistic (yes I know it’s a book about a demon but some things pull you out of the book world and make you go huh? And this was one) other than that a cute little story but I would have loved a little more character building and world building.
This short and spicy paranormal novella was the perfect thing I needed to read as a palette cleanser after just reading something heavy before. It ends with an HEA/HFN for the couple and I hope there are more in this series!
I received an ARC through Gay Romance Reviews and this is my honest review
Hunger is short and spicy. There's enough plot to make you feel like you have a general sense of the world and characters and plenty of heat to warm you up. Good for an afternoon of steamy m/m demon-human dom/sub play with a HEA.
I'd love to read about Curtis - he seems like the fun kind of trouble.
This was such a nice book. Asherus was really gentle and sweet for a demon. It is a quick read because it is described from different POV, as well as the thoughts of Lucas and Asherus, which really draws you into the story. It was a shame that it was over, I would have liked to see more of Asherus, haha.
This is a fun and fast read, I enjoyed it. I liked both main characters, Lucus and Asherus were both interesting and the writing style was engaging. There is much in the way of plot or character development but overall, it was entertaining and spicy fun read.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
An unexpected energy from this quickie of a read of a new author for me. A very easy, fluid writing style with absolutely nothing forced, an organic approach to fated mates with a twist. Asherus was so much more than a demon, he was even taken aback by how Lucas made him feel. Really appreciated the storyline, too! It’s always refreshing to see a demon use his powers for good rather than evil!
I found this story to be ordinary. It’s short and Devon Vesper tries to put too much into it. Fated mates, dying sister, bdsm, demon summoning, and the story suffers because of this. There is almost no character development and so much is glossed over. I didn’t like it but I guess if all you want is a short simple story then you might like it.
