Burned out from a string of terrible dates and even worse dating apps, Penny Jane has had enough. Luckily, she’s almost at the end of her software engineering degree, and has a brilliant idea – Waves, a dating app focused entirely on audio connections, removing looks from the equation. She’s convinced this is going to be the key to finding an authentic connection. But every great idea also needs great money behind it, and Penny is forced to partner with fellow student Sebastian Harkin, a charming but cocky business major who's allergic to commitment.

The son of a bona fide tech mogul, Sebastian knows a good idea when he sees one, and Waves has all the makings of a massive success. A massive success is just what he needs to kickstart his career after graduation—and maybe, finally, make his dad notice him. Penny is spiky and defensive, but underneath all of that, Sebastian finds her oddly...endearing.

On paper, Penny and Sebastian don’t make much sense, but over the late-night soundwaves, there’s undeniable chemistry growing between them. As outside pressure mounts and real feelings start to develop, can they get vulnerable and give their budding relationship a real shot? Or will their chance at real love be left unmatched?

From ghosting to situationships, breaking up to making out, celebrate the courage it takes to be truly seen in this sparkling, sexy exploration of modern dating.

I don't usually leave reviews for books I rate 3⭐️ because the rating usually suggests I don't have much to say.
This was OK. I found the FMC... annoying. The insecure, naive, irrational female is not my favourite. Tbh, Harken was also annoying at times. The miscommunication trope was rife here.

BUT, this was very well performed. If you don't mind the slow-burn, "just talk to each other!", everyone has daddy-issues kind of story, this is a good option that is free with an audible membership.

ohhhh i wanted to love this story because this was my first ever successful audiobook (listening to people narrate just isn’t my thing but after seeing Oliver Mills tik tok about this I had to give it a chance and decided that audiobooks can indeed be my thing if the people narrating have T H E voice. (Oliver and Georgia do btw)

For the actual story, I found it very unique but sometimes lacking in actual plot and then the ending felt incredibly rushed and you know what, I’m going to say it. It is just CRIMINAL we did not get more in depth saucy scenes narrated by this pair!!! Seeing Oliver’s tik tok of him literally flustered and blushing over some of his lines had me SoooOooOo sat and while some areas did not disappoint I was left wanting more.

Georgia was a lovely voice for the character I painted in my head for Penny and I liked seeing her but if character growth from beginning to end of the story. Overall a solid 3/5⭐️ and it was overall a 5/5 audiobook experience and I can’t be mad at that. Highly recommend listening to the audiobook!!

I really enjoyed this book. The characters are flawed, and those flaws are explored and understandable. The writing is a wonderful blend of casual humor, thoughtful conversation, and the situations feel like natural progressions and never contrived plot conveniences.

The author also clearly put a lot of care into every aspect of the story. A prime example, the story revolves around the development of a new dating app, Waves, that does away with photos and relies on sending voice messages back and forth to encourage building deeper connections. In many other books/shows/movies of this genre, that part of the story would be a throwaway, "Don't pay too much attention to this." Not here. Everything with the app itself is well thought out, makes complete sense, but also never distracts from the relationship between the main characters. It's a lovely balance, and that type of care carries throughout the entire book from the character growth to humor to pop culture references.

As an audiobook, it does some great things. You have your traditional POV chapters, narrated by Oliver Mills and Georgia McCudden (who I'll be coming back to), but in the sections of the book that follow their back and forth audio messages over Waves it becomes a pure conversation. No prose, just the two characters, through their narrators, talking to each other. I don't know if they were in the booth at the same time for these sections, but those parts are so purely conversational and their chemistry is so good that I was fully immersed and invested in the relationship.

As for the narrators, they both do a wonderful job. But I especially want to highlight Georgia McCudden. Not only does she nail the narrative aspects, but she puts such character and performance into the dialogue that I found myself finding her sections feeling less like an audiobook and more like a play or movie. She was absolutely brilliant.

I loved this book and I can't wait to see what Alyce Adams does next.

✨3 stars✨

This book is featured in the Audible Plus Catalogue.

Saw a couple of clips on Tik Tok of the recording sessions between Georgia and Oliver. The concept sounded interesting so I decided to give it a go.

I enjoyed the narrators for this story, especially Georgia, she just has a knack for bringing characters to life.
Oliver, while I mainly knew him from the Ayamé/Yuval/Oliver love triangle thing on Tik Tok, he also brought his character to life.

The chapters where it was just voicemails between the two characters also added to the experience of listening to it. This felt more like a production rather than a story being told, which I enjoyed.

As for the story/characters themselves, I found it to be quite immature and forgettable at times.
Between the daddy issues that Harkin has and Penny’s insecurity to find love because of her own daddy issues seemed to be the main focus which was quite dragging to listen to at times.

Overall, I didn’t like or hate listening to it. Maybe because I’m almost 25, I might be growing out of these kinds of reads/listens.
If it didn’t have that slight spicy scene, I probably would recommend it as a cute little YA romance but I think if you’re interested in a romance where the characters lives revolve around miscommunication and daddy issues, this might be your thing 🌻✨

Sounds Like You is a wonderful, binge-worthy read that I devoured!

I was completely captivated by the premise and the characters. Penny and Sebastian are both likeable broken characters. They have family issues that mirror eachother, ie. Daddy issues and abandonment issues. Penny is the dedicated, talented, logical engineer who finds herself as forgettable, and her online dating track record proves this. Her last straw led her to become absolutely obsessed with creating a dating app that forces a real connection.

Enter Sebastian! He hunts Penny down and convinces her to let him fund the project. The irony is that HE was the catalyst to the creation of the app because HE was the one who ghosted her on a different dating app!! Sebastian is dealing with his own toxic family dynamic; his father has no respect for his kids’ time or love and constantly makes them jump through hoops for affection and affirmation.

The chemistry was great, with a fantastic slow burn and angsty tension. Sebastian was so sweet and thoughtful, even nightly sending Penny food orders so they could “have dinner together” over the phone.

The miscommunication evoked emotion and propelled the plot in a reasonable way, highlighting the issues both characters still needed to deal with. Penny rightfully was hurt and mad as his actions seemed to confirm that she was forgettable and he was just using her.

Ultimately, the book showed Sebastian having to face the fact that his toxic dad would never be what he wanted. I really appreciated that Sebastian did end up confronting his issues and getting closure so he could be better for Penny than he was for his ex.

This was everything I hoped for and more! If you want a smart, sweet romance that makes you believe in finding an authentic connection, this is a must-listen!

For most of this book I would say it was a 3 star book. But the last probably 20% of so just dropped it down for me. It was an easy listen and if you need something mindless, it’s not terrible. But I hated when Penny went behind Sebastian’s back to his dad. For getting to know eachother through an app that allows them to communicate they really don’t know how to communicate. It was frustrating. I also was annoyed that she told him how he ghosted her at one point. Then they don’t talk about it or explain what happened in the past. Instead he just walks off to talk to his ex. Then when they’re telling each other they are in love it just seemed out of left field. And then the book is over. It just left a lot of unanswered questions

A cute little audiobook romance! Penny is studying a Software Engineering degree and decides to create her own dating app where there are no pictures-only voice notes. She needs money to develop the app so she partners with Sebastian Harkin - a business major with money to invest and a mogul dad to impress. While working on developing the app, they also develop feelings for each other, but as with dating apps and love, things don't go smoothly! I loved the banter between the two MCs and the story itself was a lot of fun - especially when the app starts getting used in a way Penny didn't intend! A great light hearted romance set in Australia too!

I caved and got a trial with audible and decided to give this a lil listen on the plane! The first time listening to a story that was written for the intent of audio only and the ‘voice note’ style certainly suited this. And as a vm girly I loved this concept. Although the characters were a lil bit annoying and they both had INSANE daddy issues (I mean don’t we all but still this was next level - I mean he stopped mid *redacted* to answer a phone call from his dad for no real reason?)
Anyway no major complaints here so

I loved this, I don’t know if it’s because I love the male voice from TikTok but I was obsessed with the whole concept!
Great plot
Great romance building
Loved the back and forth voice chats
End was a bit eh just because the tension built made it feel a little rushed and also I felt like I was about to get some good smut but it ended😩
Really enjoyed it tho it was a couldn’t stop listening kind of audio book

This was cute, witty and fun reading with my ears experience. then the nerve of the 3rd act made me angry.
Swooning over Sebastian even with his issues. but Lil miss did something in my eyes that is unredeemable.
She was the one with trust issues. But she is the one that can't be trusted. I continued because I wanted to see her get it. That made this connection unbelievable to me. I needed way more graveling for their connection to be believable.

This book is everything I want in a rom com! When I saw who the narrators were for this I was so excited to listen to it, and it did not disappoint! The story had me rooting for these characters and yelling at them. The back and forth on Waves had me giggling so much!! I loved the romance and I really liked how deep the author went giving them each a well thought out backstory.

A quick fast paced romance! Penny Jane is developing a dating app, Wave. Sebastien Hawkins is a business major who wants a project to invest in. He wants to impress his Dad. Penny reluctantly accepts to share Wave with him when she needs money. But slowly feelings start to emerge. I love the audio, though the story was predictable, it was entertaining!

The audiobook was enjoyable, with the narrators delivering a great performance. However, the story itself left something to be desired. It felt somewhat predictable, and the plot lacked depth. The central theme of father issues was prominent throughout, but at times, it became repetitive, almost to the point where it felt overemphasized.

Hmm...okay so the last 30% of the audiobook had my attention more than the first 70% so I'm glad I pushed through. Like I said before, Oliver and Georgia were great as the narrators and I definitely bought their characters chemistry especially right at the very end. The story itself was okay if you're looking for a relatively light "rom com" story

Very cute and fun story! The main reason I wanted to read this was because Oliver Mills, whom I’ve followed on tiktok for a long time, is one of the voice actors. I enjoyed it and liked both characters. The story was a little predictable but not boring.

The story was fine, nothing remarkable. It was predictable and cringey at times but ended up being pretty cute! I started listening because I love Oliver Mills and was super excited to listen to his narration, he did not disappoint! The other narrator grew on me as well, they both did a great job!

It did have some good and relatable perspectives on dating, love and relationships. The problem however is that I didn't like the characters. They were honestly a bit annoying and made some weird choices. It was still entertaining, and a funny idea, but I've listened to better.

3 Aussie Stars

This was probably my first book narrated by Australians. read book. It was a nice typical story with medium drama. Both trying to overcome some family issues but what college kid doesn’t.

I enjoyed this. Not great not bad.

Sounds Like You was the very first audiobook I’ve listened to that wasn’t narrated by someone from the UK or US 🤯 It was such a comforting experience to listen to narrators from Aus/NZ. The narration and casual dialogue made it feel intimate, like just a chat with your mates recounting their dating mishaps.

Penny Jane, a software engineering student - over the bad dates, ghosting, and superficial dating app profiles - sets out to create a new app that focuses entirely on audio. Users would communicate via voice recordings, and appearances would be ignored. Unable to fund her app idea, Penny is forced to work with Sebastian Harkin, a charming yet cocky business major with the connections and funds that she so desperately needs.

Penny and Sebastian had such an endearing relationship. Defensive strangers, to reluctant business partners. Their chemistry builds throughout the audiobook & there were just SO many cute lil moments 😮‍💨

If you have an Audible account, I definitely recommend checking this book out! It was such a fun listen & spin on modern dating 🩷

Also I agree with Harkin, team Shrek 2 supremacy 🙂‍↕️🫶

This was kind of a nothing story, both characters were annoying and the daddy issues were REAL. Also the fact that her app was called Waves was really throwing me because I kept thinking of the car wash chain 😂😂

Performances were great, and really absorbed me into the story. But… the story itself was a bit of a letdown. It kind of felt like Australia got its own hallmark christmas movie channel for year-round stories…

This was actually so so good. I actually just listened to this while being super productive because I was so invested in this story. I’m actually upset that’s it over. I’m also sad I can’t have a physical version of this for my bookshelf. 100% recommend.

Sounds like you by alyce Adams. Both characters were frustrating at times, but when you found out why it was understandable why they were the way they were. When the shoe dropped and the pre break up happened, I would have slapped him, but it's funny how he idea ended up becoming a hookup app

There is some strong profanity sprinkled throughout and one steamy foreplay scene, but no detailed sex scenes.
The storyline is good, and the narration was performed well. I’d recommend it with a content warning.
