Endless Love #2

Beautiful Heretic

Rate this book
"She had fallen through time, through centuries, but it was her heart that was in true danger now." Rebecca Shipton, a driven career woman fed up with the modern dating scene, never expected her life to be turned upside down—until she discovers a mysterious antique ring that transports her back to 1658 Puritan England. Thrust into the turmoil of Oliver Cromwell’s reign. Rebecca finds herself in a land ravaged by civil war, where the Roundheads reign and religious strife fuels fear and persecution.

Lost in time and struggling to survive, Rebecca meets Isaac Winfield, a brooding widower scarred by loss. Isaac is a man shaped by duty and tragedy, raising two children alone while trying to protect his family estate amidst the political and religious upheaval. Haunted by his past and his role in the Civil War, Isaac has no room for distractions—until Rebecca’s fierce, modern spirit challenges everything he thought he knows.

As their bond deepens, suspicion in the tight-knit community grows. Rebecca’s strange ways and outspoken independence soon ignite dangerous rumors of witchcraft, putting both their lives in peril. With the weight of religious zealotry and Cromwell’s oppressive regime bearing down on them, Rebecca and Isaac must navigate not only the forces of history but the darker forces that seek to tear them apart.

In this sweeping sequel to A Shadow in Time, Anna Kensington's Beautiful Heretic delivers a powerful story of love, sacrifice, and survival during one of England’s most tumultuous periods. Can Rebecca and Isaac find their place in a world ruled by fear and faith, or will history’s relentless grip tear them apart forever?

Anna Kensington writes historical romance and historical fiction for readers who like their history messy, their heroines dangerous, and their love stories unwilling to behave.

Her books travel from the battlefields of the Wars of the Roses to Regency drawing rooms, Puritan villages, plague roads, and cities on fire. She pairs careful historical research with complicated characters, dark humor, emotional ruin, and plenty of passion.

A lifelong history obsessive, Anna holds a degree in English Literature and a minor in History. She is less interested in crowns and pageantry than in the strange, intimate details underneath them: forgotten women, disastrous decisions, inconvenient desires, and ordinary people caught inside extraordinary moments.

Anna lives in the Pacific Northwest, fueled by coffee and a research habit that stopped being reasonable years ago. She shares her home and writing space with her family, three wildly entertaining dogs, and one devoted pigeon who is convinced she hung the moon.

Kensington is a talented writer and story teller. I love the historical fiction and time travel aspect. She develops characters to the point where you want more. Where Kensington somewhat disappoints is that she ends the story too abruptly. And then the sequel has nothing to do with the characters you fall in love with. I also feel that the time travel is basically in title/description only. Sold as a time travel novel is really misleading. My other criticism is that as I read more of Kensington’s books, she definitely has a story template/formula…same premise, just different venue and different characters. Obviously this approach seems to be working for her career -wise, but considering her talent at writing and storytelling, somewhat disappointing that she feels the need to “plug and play”.

This book was a wonderful romance and the story behind it was so interesting and kept me guessing all the way through.

I loved the characters and I love the history. I learn so much about the time periods in her books -it’s more than just a romance story. I love how Anna can balance the seriousness, suspense and romance, with light hearted moments which make the characters real and keep you entertained. Love the diversity of her characters-coming from different backgrounds, working hard to make it despite the challenges they face.

Can’t wait for book 3 in the Endless Love Series!!!
