When Crimson gets offered a place in the Dressmakers' Guild Sewing Competition, she jumps at a second chance to get her dream guild membership.
But the competition isn't just about sewing. She has to contend with former friends and rivals who'll do anything to get rid of her. And why is there a wolf in the city?

Crimson gets another opportunity to try and join the Guild, through a competition. She has Leif along for the journey, as well as others from Saffron Vale, but she has to get through the competition successfully on her own…despite the best efforts of others!
Crimson shows more of her character in this story, with her determination and a gradual growth in her self belief. She has no idea of just how much Leif is looking out for her, but their (very) slow burn romance seems to be moving slowly forward. They both have their issues with confidence when it comes to this relationship.
It’s a lovely tale of courage, loyalty, friendship and integrity, which shows good qualities will triumph in the end. I cannot wait to see what happens next, and whether Crimson and Leif eventually get past all their self imposed barriers, to finally become a couple.
I just love this book. Crimson has so many misunderstandings and has no idea who Leif's "Woman" is She gets an opportunity to go to a sewing competition and become a guilder if she wins, she starts off desperate to prove herself and not really believing in herself despite all she has achieved. She ends up learning that she has all she have ever needed, including a life mate if she wants him. The sabotage is brilliant, the story is brilliant and it all neatly comes together at the end. A wonderful tale.
This is book 2 in the Saffron Vale series and I enjoyed the first and this one even more than the first! Crimson wakes up the night after the party from her scrumpy hangover at Leif's. (That's not too important I just wanted to say scrumpy hangover!) After opening her shop for the day, she is approached by an Elder from the Guild. He has seen her work and wants to help her get into the Guild. There is a sewing competition in the capital city and is going to sponsor her. So Crimson takes the trip to Capital City with Maire Bowen, his assistant, Ig and Leif. There are definitely trials for Crimson along the way both in and out of the competition. Crimson is such an adorable character. She is naive and oblivious and sometimes just makes me want to spell things out for her. She has the best attitude (most of the time) and always takes the high road. Leif is becoming a little less grumpy and we definitely get to see another side of him (in more ways than one) in this book. And we also get to find out a big revelation from his side of things!! I have so many thoughts about Crimson from the end of the book as well. I was excited, then I wasn't and I just wish that she of them could get over their communication issues! I can't say more than that so I don't give anything away! This book also had tension between Crimson and V, one of the competitors in the sewing competition. You never knew what he might do to try to sabotage her, but you always had a feeling he was up to something. His character was the perfect "villain" to this story. There were also some fun new characters from the competition as well. Belinda was a sweet woman who was the perfect opposite of V. And I love that everyone got what they should have from the competition, both good and bad, in the end! I am now anxiously waiting for the next book so I can find out what will happen in the next book - will Crimson finally get more information on something she has been wondering about and where will it take Crimson and Leif?
This was a great read that I finished in one sitting. It was nice seeing Leif and Crimson interact in a new enviornment. Leif was significantly less of a jerk and more supportive without constantly giving mixed signals which I very much appreciated. As always, smudge is a delight and there was some funny moments as the gang explored the capital. I was a bit annoyed at the frustrating turn of events at the end though, thankfully I started reading this series after the 3rd book was released.
I can see this easily being a 5 star read for others, I'm just a baby who will get hurt feelings on behalf of fictional characters so when a sentimental item is made no longer usable out of malice and that person doesn't get called out in a satisfying way....I get sulky. So that combined with some misunderstandings led to 4 stars over 5, but genuinley this is one of the better books I've read in a minute and it's easy to see that there were many eyes on the book as it feels well edited.
Charming as ever by G. Clatworthy. Crimson is offered a place at the Dressmaker’s Guild Sewing Competition, jumping at the second chance to get her dream guild membership . That’s the least if her troubles ,she has to fend of stiff competition but not in the arena you may think. There’s lots who don’t want her to succeed and anything they will put in her way yes indeed. Rivals and even former friends will do anything to see her come to an end ,to get rid of her as competition. Why is there a wolf in the city? That’s not all there is to this tale of course ,besides all the stress and angst and all there’s Lief along for the journey and he keeps her safe from others deeds ,she’s not alone in her quest. This is best read in solitude ,no interruptions to settle in and devour .It is well written I really enjoyed it.
MC Crimson receives an unexpected opportunity to compete for guild membership which not only has been an achievement she desired but also believed would be a validation of her design skills and of her personal worth.
As she embarks on a physical journey to the capital for the competition, she also undergoes a hero’s journey in which she affirms her cherished values especially after undergoing trials related both to the competition and to her past experiences.
And, amidst miscommunications and misunderstandings, there are *Developments* in her relationship with Lief.
Recommended!
Although it was my pleasure to receive this ARC from the author, it was completely my choice to share my honest review.
I should not have enjoyed a book about sewing as much as I did!
And the reason for my enjoyment was the likeable characters G Clatworthy creates, especially our main character, Crimson. She's talented, determined and feisty. Which kept me reading and enjoying this fabulous cozy fantasy book.
When Crimson gets an opportunity to join a prestigious guild, she has to travel to the city and prove her worth through enough dress creating tasks to fill a few episodes of Ru Paul's Drag Race.
I enjoyed the story, the puns and the world that has been created. All in all, a very enjoyable read, and I look forward to seeing what happens next.
A really fantastic story of a young girl who wants to set herself up in her own dressmaking shop. Her dream is to one day become a member of the dressmakers guild. Crimson, the fmc is invited to the Capitol City to attend a guild contest for dressmakers. Leif, a wolf shifter, tags along to keep her safe while in the city. The characters were fun and engaging. Easy to resonate with. The world building was brilliant and fantastically written. I felt like I was right beside Crimson the whole way through the book. This book is definitely a must read!
A stunningly inventive story with great worldbuilding, brilliant pacing, and amazing characters. I especially loved Crimson’s character development, and Smudge, he is totally cute. An absolutely captivating book.
A review copy of this book was sent to me by the author. All of the above opinions are my own.
This book frustrated me. On one hand, I enjoyed Crimson’s trip to Capital City to participate in the sewing competition. But on the other hand, I despised her distrust of Leif, and her inability to communicate with him about anything and everything. I’m not sure I can stomach any more of this series.
