This is a companion to the book Country Heaven. I found this little cookbook to be simply wonderful. There are additional recipes that are not included in Country Heaven. The couple that I have tried so far have been a complete success. Even if you haven't read Country Heaven yet, you would still enjoy this.

So, you ask, who reviews a cookbook? When Ava Miles writes it, I have to see it, read it, so, why not review it? Full of wonderful, mouthwatering recipes, Ms. Miles puts another piece of herself into this collection that is as satisfying as her romantic tales! For those who know of Ms. Miles’ style, you know she often adds recipes sprinkled throughout her books. Now she has reversed that pattern and wrote a little love and memories attached to some of her favorite family recipes AND shared recipes from one of her novels, Country Heaven! Country Heaven Cookbook, from the dedication to her late grandmother to the last page is a statement to more of Ava Miles’ talents, gifts and capacity to love what she is doing.

Now, I’ve tried a couple of the recipes and they are fabulous, relatively easy and definitely heaven to the palette. That said, I believe this book should come with a warning or some friendly advice, Like: Unless you have the willpower of a god or the metabolism of a jack rabbit, space your creations a few days apart or get those elastic waistband pants out!

My ONLY complaint is that I was hoping to see the recipe for the moose’s favorite pie in here and it wasn’t! Seriously, in a world full of health conscious eating, low fat, no fat, no fried, etc., an occasional fall from grace can be simply heavenly! And this is coming from a vegetarian who gets vapors at the sight of butter and batter!

I bought this book after seeing so many of Ava Miles' recipes in all of her books!

Reading Ava Miles stories always makes me hungry with her delicious and vividly described comfort food recipes. Country Heaven Cookbook gives us these delightful recipes plus much more. The name fits this book perfectly, it is a touch of cooking HEAVEN!

Of course, I haven't had a chance to try them all out yet but OH. My. Goodness. You must try “Fan-tabulous French Toast”! But I'm sure all the rest are as wonderful as this recipe.

I guess the best compliment I can give, is I purchased copies of this Country Heaven Cookbook for my mom and sister. It is a must own for anyone who enjoys cooking!

I received this copy of Country Heaven Cookbook from Aspendawn Books in exchange for a honest review. This book was published June 1, 2014.

This cookbook isn't very large - only about 67 pages, so there aren't tons of recipes for anyone who is looking for a good-sized cookbook or a lot of lunch/supper menus. However, the recipes are pure country all the way, and appear easy enough for anyone to make. Still, they're pretty good and a nice addition to your collection if you are interested in Southern comfort food.

Slightly Disappointed

Although I love this new Author, I was disappointed in this book due to the fact that almost all of the recipes in here were in her first book of The Dare River series. I did not need to have the first few chapters of this book included in the content of a cookbook where I thought there would be more of "Tory's" special downhome recipes. Sorry.

Filled with comfort food that will top your chart!

If you’re looking for some recipes that you’ll add to those handed down in your own family, you should consider purchasing Ava Miles’ Country Heaven Cookbook: Family Recipes & Remembrances.

This relatively short cookbook (67 pages, including an excerpt from Miles’ novel Country Heaven) is chock full of the best in comfort food. Not only are the recipes from Country Heaven included, but also several from Miles own family.

In addition to being a bestselling author, Ava also worked as a chef. So you know that she’s made sure to test these recipes out and they’re so clearly written that it’s a sheer pleasure to follow them.

May I say, I was particularly delighted by this book as I had loved the inclusion of recipes in the novel, but they were hard to find (my little magnifier search icon was a bit overused as I searched for corn bread and some other favs). Now, I just open up this handy cookbook and all the recipes are there - and are indexed - so no more searching is needed.

These dishes are both fun to make and a joy to eat. I whipped up a batch of that cornbread last night and it was light, airy, and tasty… I was lucky to have enough left to toast this morning (one of my favorite breakfast treats) after some friendly locusts descended on it.

My friends unanimous taste test verdict? This was probably the best cornbread ever - and I take no credit for it. It’s purely Ava. Really, cornbread was one of my Nana’s (Dad’s mom) favorite things to make, along with Angel Food Cake for birthdays, and Lady Baltimore Cake for special occasions (yes, just like Ava’s family). But I have to say Nana's cornbread was much heavier as the proportion of flour to cornmeal was equal. This recipe shakes that dynamic up and the results are FABulous.

Some other recipes include fried chicken (and yes, this is the exact same recipe that was passed down in my family, even to the milk gravy), a lemon meringue pie that my father would have loved, cream puffs (I’ve never attempted these, but just may with this recipe), candied nuts that just look so tasty, a great BBQ dry rub, and, oh yes, buttermilk biscuits.

Ava makes reading these recipes fun with her personal interjections and humor. But for a cook, this is like a treasured gold mine volume of down home comfort foods.

I look forward to more books - and recipes - in Ava’s Dare River series. Next up is THE CHOCOLATE GARDEN (pub date: 12 August 2014). Chocolate and Ava, mmmm. Can’t wait!

Add Ava Miles' Country Heaven Cookbook: Family Recipes & Remembrances to your cookbook shelf. It's comfort food that will top your chart!

Country Heaven Cookbook: Family Recipes and Remembrances by Ava Miles is a 2014 self publication. I was provided a copy of this book by the author and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is a collection of down home goodness Ava Miles as compiled from her own recipes and those featured int eh Country Heaven novel. I have lots of cookbooks on my kindle but I have never reviewed any of them because I didn't really know how to go about reviewing a cookbook. But, since this in conjunction with on of Ava's novels I thought I might give it a shot.

First of all all these recipes sound really yummy. I come across that a lot in cookbooks but then when I start looking at the ingredients and the difficulty level I have that “it looks good on paper” thought. If I actually attempted the recipe... well it wouldn't come out quite like the cookbook said it would. Not so with this one. These are recipes that pretty much still to the ingredients we all usually have on hand and are awesome desserts, breads, and pastries. These recipes are not overly complicated and I had my tummy growling especially thinking about those stuffed apple crepes.

This book also contains an extended except from Country Heaven the novel which features a few of these dishes. This book is nice companion to the Country Heaven novel. Also, ( sold separately- LOL) The Country Heaven Song Book is also available.

The only compliant I had was the lack of photos. ( This could be because of the digital copy I have)

This one gets 4 stars.

I adore culinary mysteries, and mysteries that include recipes. I also have been known to purchase a cookbook for one particular recipe. With Country Haven Cookbook I was surprised to find Tory's Mouthwatering Lasagna. When I read it I thought someone had read the lasagna recipe that has been handed down through five generations; starting from my grandmother down to my great nieces and nephews. It was almost identical. I knew then I was going to find many new recipes that my family and I would come to love.

An example would be Gingerbread Waffles, the combination of two of my favorite things. Something no self respecting Italian food lover ever refuses, Easy Peasy Garlic Bread. Such a variety of Ava's family recipes and I plan to try each and every one of them. Starting with the deserts.

Ava Miles has a hit on her hands with Country Heaven Cookbook! This very talented author brings your a wonderful set of delicious recipes, which I will be trying soon, and a story all in one. The cover and title is a little deceptive, when I read the cover I thought, "oh a wonderful cookbook," it is much more then that. Most authors include recipes at the end of the book, almost as an after thought, but Ava has her recipes front and center. The pancakes one makes my mouth water and that is the first recipe on my list.
I received a free copy of this book in return for my honest opinion.
