It all starts with a piece of paper with some doodles and math that Derek has dropped. So Stiles asks him to join the math team.
"You're really good. Not perfect, I mean, Lydia made some corrections," he says, leaning to pointing them out on the paper. Derek glares harder.

So they start to practice together. And spending more and more time together.
"Don't even think about taking those out in my car," Derek says threateningly, when he sees Stiles reaching for the box of Nerds in his jacket.
"Relax, I'll be careful," Stiles says, but of course he pulls the box out of his pocket upside down and a couple hundred Nerds pour of it and go everywhere. Some of them scatter across Stiles' lap, some roll onto the floor beneath his feet, some land in the little leather skirt thing around the gear shift, but a lot of them immediately disappear into the crack between his seat and the console. There isn't a sound in car, except the delayed pitter-patter of one last Nerd finding its way deep into some probably-impossible-to-reach crevice beneath Stiles' butt.
"I'm not even sure I want to know," Derek says slowly, "what would have happened if you hadn't been 'careful.'" He makes little air quotes with his fingers.

Stiles is oblivious, as usual.

Binomial Coefficients is a sweet YA story. No complications, no sex, no fantasy streak, but really adorable. Recommended.

Uh... YES . Yes, I do. That would be a "yes."

This one's so cute.

Stiles is a freshman math nerd!

Derek is a senior, a quarterback and secretly super awesome at math.

Stiles wants Derek on the math team and Derek just wants....?

Huh. I wonder. Guess you'll have to read it to find out.

"Well yeah. It was always about you."

Adorably cute and fluffy high school Sterek.

I loved it!

Since Derek and Stiles are in the math club, this gif seemed especially fitting.

A gentle high school romance from DevilDoll. Fifteen year old nerd Stiles and eighteen year old jock Derek come together over a joint love of math.

Derek takes a swig of milk before he looks up at Stiles. "You don't like football," he says.
"Not really, no," Stiles admits. "But I like you."

5 sparkly, giggly, nerderiffic stars.

Recently, I willingly jumped into the abyss of AO3 fanfics about that most amazing and adorable ship, #Sterek. Yes, Stiles and Derek from Teen Wolf. I've probably read a million (or two?) words on them since the beginning of the year.

And it's been glorious.

Yes, there have been some ups and downs, but once in a while, you run into a fic that just grabs you and makes you cry out in jubilation.

Binomial Coefficients by DevilDoll is one of them.

I FREAKING LOVED THIS STORY!!!

*ahem*

Yes, this review required at least one shouty-caps statement. :D

I read this story last night, and I can't count the number of times I squeed out loud.

Binomial Coefficients is a high school AU in which opposites, however unlikely, definitely attract. Stiles is a freshman math nerd who convinces Derek the senior quarterback to join the math team.

It's awkward. It's funny. It's adorable. It's GLORIOUS.

I loved this story so freaking hard. The way the writer crafted their relationship was beautiful to watch, and the Stiles POV was perfect in that you could definitely see the feelings develop, even through the filter of his skewed perspective. Because, yes, Stiles is just trying not to get beat up by Derek when he proposes Derek join the math team.

Derek, on the other hand... Well. Let's just say he might be more than interested in having some one-on-one tutoring time with Stiles.

*wink wink*

If you're feeling down, this would be a fantastic little fic to pick you right back up. It's a freshman/senior relationship, but I wasn't bothered by the age difference in this story. There's some kissing, but mostly it's about feelings.

That said, the first kiss? I seriously swooned.

You can find this 20k word fic for free at Archive of Our Own.

Go. Go get it. And then read the freaking hell out of it!

What I appreciate most about fluffy Sterek fics like this is that there is very little angst when it comes to these guys "coming out". Granted I know real life is no where near this simplistic or easy but again, when family and friends hardly bat an eyelash that either one of them falls for the other it's like a balm to my soul. Most often that is the least of their worries as they battle supernatural beings or confront apocalypses - that finding love with each other is actually a pretty fantabulous boon.

But I digress. This is a human Sterek fic and the boys are in high school.

There's the typical teen angst and awkwardness. Stiles is a bit geeky, always clumsy and self deprecating. Derek is the epitome of popular, cool, star quarterback. These boys are crushing hard on each other and as usual, they're pretty clueless.

This had very good voice and characterizations - it was fun, funny, cute and heartwarming. It was pure joy.

This is absolutely adorable.

There is no angst as such. The angst I felt was there for me only because it's a story involving a math club, and I'm currently failing math, so it raised my blood pressure in all the wrong ways.

But also all the good ones! Because the romance is a nice, slow burn that roasts you thoroughly, preparing you for the treat that is the dénouement of the plot - i.e. the realisation that (BAM! plot twist) that silly little crush you were trying so hard to hide and ignore is reciprocated, which in turn leads to a wonderfully intimate scene that's seasoned with just the right amounts of romanticism, awkwardness, lust and sense.

Unsurprisingly (it's DevilDoll, let's be real), all the characters are well-rounded and in character, even though the secondary ones have something like 10% of the total screen time.

Short and sweet, essentially.

Just lovely. So well-written, with spot-on voicing for Stiles and Derek. Favorite scene was probably when Stiles meets Derek's parents--the cookies, Derek's indignation over the layer cake--priceless.

This feels very classic Sterek to me, where the clash comes from Stiles' (mostly correct) perception of himself as unpopular with Derek's (here believable) obliviousness to how much his looks and athletic ability determine his place in the high school hierarchy. Most of my favorite Stereks mine that dynamic, because honestly, it's difficult in our shallow world not to focus on Derek's looks, not to have that be the first thing you think or say about him. But where does that leave Derek?--it's not like he spends his life lusting after himself. One consistent aspect that runs through all of Sterek (and the show itself) is that Derek Hale is not a vain or narcissistic person (in contrast to, say, Jackson, who knows exactly how good-looking he is and what that means for his status and relations with other people). Most of the time Derek seems either ignorant of how people react to his appearance or embarrassed by it, and its a tribute to the character (and Tyler Hoechlin's performance) that you truly believe it. Sterek itself is fueled by the mix of that embarrassment and Stiles' own combination of self-awareness, underconfidence and Olympic-caliber verbal gymnastics.

Anyway, I very highly recommend this one. It's a great length, very well written, and basically just completely charming.

This has to be the most adorable Sterek fic ever.

Seriously, I don't think you can get any more adorable than this one. It's just perfect, for me anyway. I'm not surprised that I got another 5 star Sterek fic, but one that was YA? Yeah, that's a bit of a surprise. I didn't think I would ever see any YA Sterek fics because I'm used to smut when it comes to these two.

There is something seriously nice about this story. I've always loved the whole two teenage boys have a crush on each other and neither of them knows it's reciprocated, but throw in some Sterek and I am in love with the story. Also, the whole math nerd thing is really cute and adorable and I adore it here.

I'm just in such a happy mood after this. *dreamy sigh*

Cute high school Sterek with a brainy freshman Stiles and a senior, star athlete Derek!

Stiles tries to convince Derek, his crush who's apparently good at math, to join the math team. Also, Stiles thinks Derek wants to kill him with his death glare, but it turns out that it means something entirely else.

So. Beautifully. Awkward.

Captured flawlessly the nerd / jock romance and yet broke from the traditional script at the same time. I felt awkward with Stiles, I felt excited with Stiles, I felt hopeful with Stiles. I totally pined for Derek through Stiles' eyes.

This author nailed the envy every nerd has felt while pining for that popular kid:

“Derek always looks slightly annoyed with everyone around him, and he still has more friends than Stiles.”

nailed the analogies:

Everyone knows Derek's car. He drives it to school every day. It's grumbly and dark and slightly menacing, just like Derek.

the secret excitement:

“Inside, though, he's trying not to be too excited that Derek knows his name, because that's what a loser would do.”

the prize of priding one's self:

“On the other hand, Lydia already appears to be thawing to Jackson. Stiles decides she has terrible taste in guys and that's why she never liked him back.”

and the perfectly timed humor to break up a tense moment:

“And I like your family," he says, then amends, "I like your parents. Your sisters are cartoon villains.”

And I don't want to spoil it, but if you read this, seriously tell me you can't deny laughing out loud at the "Nerd Candy" scene in the Camaro. I was nearly crying I was laughing so hard.

Derek is the high school quarterback.

And the rest is just so incredibly sweet.

I loved it!

Stiles is a little young to have sex in this one, but that wasn’t a problem for me at all. This cutesy patootsie story was just fiiiiiine without sex.

OMG! I loved this story. This is a Sterek fanfiction story. For those of you that don't know...Sterek fanfic is based off 2 male characters, Stiles and Derek, from the TV show Teen Wolf. In the show they're both heterosexual but some viewers have fantasized about them together in a m/m relationship and thus Sterek was born. This story doesn't take place in the TV world. Derek and Stiles are both regular high school students (Derek is a senior and quarterback of the football team and Stiles is a freshman and best at math) and their friends are all either on the football team or the Math team.

The story begins with Stiles seeing Derek drop a paper in the hall at school. When he looks at it to see if it's anything worth returning, he notices that there's math problems all over the paper, along with some doodles and misc stuff. It seems apparent that Derek is really smart and since he was doing math for fun, Stiles figures it's something Derek enjoys. Since the math problems are difficult ones and Derek did well with them, Stiles gets the idea that Derek would be a great addition to the math team. Stiles approaches Derek and is surprised that he's receptive to talking to Stiles and actually decides to join the team (making an actual effort to work around his football responsibilities to do so). To make things work, Derek and Stiles end up studying together a lot and as they spend more time together, Stiles starts liking Derek more and more and develops a pretty good crush on him, all the while thinking that Derek doesn't like him in return. Despite this, the story isn't overly angsty...it was actually very sweet and endearing to see these 2 stumble their way together. The story has a sweet ending that leaves us with Stiles and Derek together as boyfriends.

This was such a sweet and endearing story, I'm sure I'll read it again in the future. I'm not usually much on YA stories but this one was really worth reading. Fair warning, there's some kissing and a bit of touching but it's not erotic (but that really fit the feel of the story). Overall it's a great story that left me with a happy feeling.

* note - I listened to the podcast of this story and the narrator did a very good job but she did have an accent and it was a bit weird hearing Derek and Stiles with the accent. Still it wasn't anything too bad...just had to get used to it.

6/16/15 - Reread while driving long distances on a road trip. Still a great book. :D

Honestly, at what point is cute and fluffy too much?

Describing this the words: puppies, rainbows and kittens - start popping in my head.

It barely takes an hour to two hours to finish this, but it took me 3 days before I got myself to get through the last 10 pages. Short stories - I get, I prefer not to read them because I always end up wanting more... and there isn't ANY.
For this, I was truly baffled at how blind Stiles was. Literally took me two pages to get a read on Derek, but Stiles... Wow.

Regardless of the obvious stupidity... Maybe oblivious is a better word? That is Stiles Stilinski, I did enjoy this story.

I mean. Come on! He approaches Derek Hale (the Big Bad Wolf, though here he is by no means one) and asks him to join the math team! Enough said.
