What a find! Yes, it is written by a liflong Methodist Christian, but Georgia Harkness is much more that that; she is "one of the first significant American female theologians" and for me it shows. This is written quite objectively, and with full contol of the topic at hand - as well as deep knowledge of the primary works of the mystics described.
In the first part she goes into what mysticism is all about, it rotts and definitions. In the second she tracks mysticism through history by focusing on a few chosen mystics from each era. I enjoyed this book very much - as it was clear and straightforward, scholarly and understanding.
