I was searching for them, but they found me first.
Cerberus. That’s what they call themselves. Three men who watch over Axton Harbor with an iron fist—or a bloodied blade—and whose goal is to purge the city of the evil that lurks in plain sight.
So what do they want with me?
They follow me. Chase me. Scare me. Thrill me.
Waking up tied in their basement as their prisoner is the last thing I expect. Craving their touch comes as a close second.
I need them in order to exact my revenge, but I only get what I want if I agree to a deal with these masked devils.
The only question is, will I be another blood splatter on the wall, or will we find a way to work together without risking something more guarded than my freedom?
It’s safe to say I have added 3 new book boyfriends to my list!
This was such a great read start to finish, I never felt bored and was sucked into the story right away. The main Character Fallon, has really gone through a lot in her life and still really struggles with her past. Que, 3 MMC’s also knows as a vigilante group called Cerberus who are blood thirsty and out for revenge and a little taste of Fallon herself.
If you are a vigilante supporter, mask daddy lover, why choose and enemies to lovers seeker this book is for you!
Always check your triggers, this book does cover dark tropes and topics but they are DELICIOUS.
Cannot wait to see what else H.M Slade brings to this universe I am dying for more.
There is something wrong with the heroine, and she knows it. She is also stupid. She knows that, too. It doesn't prevent her from acting reckless and dumb over and over again. She is like, "This is a really stupid thing to do, so let's do it."
The story isn't very interesting or believable. It is quite predictable, too. The spice level is low to middle. Despite the expected cliffhanger, I don't care enough to continue with the next book.
Honestly I like the base of this one a lot, we have lying and criminal activity long seeded hatred and men in masks. However this gets a three for me because the entire book was her in captivity and being a captive. It just got boring after a bit, and the betrayal was clear a mile away because of how much emphasis was put on her mom and her connection to her being the best thing she had growing up. Of course they would betray her with that.
Overall though I like the characters, wish we didn't get so much of Tess' pov because I don't find her as intriguing as others in the book but hopefully we see more of the guys in the next book.
Plot: 3/5 • Smut: 3/5 ————-> Kidnapped by three masked men who are also vigilantes by night. She was thought to have some part of a sex trafficking ring. Proven innocent, but not her family. Secrets are revealed. Her attacker was revealed. and she’s fallen for three. Smut was good. Ends on a cliffy.
This book was amazing and I now am in love with 3 more men.
This book offers up masked men who form a vigilante group, a sassy FMC looking for revenge, and a terribly corrupt town just bursting at its seams. It delivers that and so so so much more.
Fallon is a bad ass. I love the fact that she is flawed and makes mistakes that jeopardize things instead of being perfect at something she’s never done before. She’s also sassy, stubborn, and so strong.
Matteo, Declan, and Akio are DELICIOUS. Just scrumptious men with masks, mommy & daddy issues, and a blood thirsty need for revenge. The plot was engaging, the characters all full of depth and flaws.
This book was easily a 5/5 stars and I cannot wait for the next in the series after that bomb drop at the end.
I can’t exactly say that this is a good book. It’s every trope you’d expect. That said, I still read it in less than 24 hours because it’s fun and hot and I definitely plan to finish the series
NOTES: - she did not have a normal reaction to meeting them at all. like you saw 3 different masked men in a club and you don’t find that odd???? - one of my pet peeves is when authors make fmcs be turned on when they’re in danger and that happens 1000 times in this book. i get that the authors were trying to make it “sexy” but it just didn’t work in this book given the situation (especially when they were interrogating (?) her) - the writing felt a little awkward at the beginning but got better as the book went on - though there were still moments where i cringed - on page 136 the authors wrote “you’re new room” instead of “your new room” - them talking about how good she smells (“like rain and flowers”) after they kidnapped her while she was on a run and then after she worked out was crazy…she’s definitely sweaty and definitely smells like it😭 - i feel like the story/their relationship progressed too fast given the circumstances. this book deserved a nice slowburn in my opinion. - declan saying he’s not going to pin her hands above her head to respect what she told them just to do it two seconds later…alright - when matteo is explaining the file to quinn he refers to sebastian as her dad instead of fallon’s - the way the plot with fallon’s mom was explained was kind of confusing - i think they were trying to be mysterious bc it’ll be revealed in the next books but it was confusing more than anything - i enjoyed declan and akio, but i really didn’t like matteo. i think he was supposed to be “grumpy” but he was really just an unlikable dick.
while there were things i didn’t like about this book, i had a good time reading it and am looking forward to continuing the series. i’m hoping that matteo is less of an asshole in the next book, lol. 3 starts might be generous based on what i listed above, but i read this in one sitting so it gets bonus points.
The depiction of cybersecurity and “hacking” in this novel is on the same level as that NCIS scene where the two techies start typing on the same keyboard to try and out-hack the hackers. Very distracting. The attraction between the characters is superficial and the torture scenes are way too drawn out. And yeah, it ends on a cliffhanger. I gotta say, I am SO Tired of 300 page books ending in cliffhangers! I don’t believe every story needs to be a 900 page trilogy!
I quite literally could not put this book down! I read it all in one evening and stayed up until 5am to finish it, it was that good! With strong main characters (the men giving that taste of every kind of male personality a girl wants individually, tall and brooding, golden retriever and slightly scary) and a hooking story line as well as scenes that push boundaries without taking it too far! It’s a spicy, exciting and in some parts incredibly funny book!
Fallon's life, from the outside looking in, seemed perfect. She was a successful public relations expert for her father's company and she had a best friend who could hack the pentagon if she needed her to. But appearances can be deceiving as Fallon has led a life of constantly seeking out her father's approval while knowing she will always fall short. Her mother has disappeared and been presumed dead and her creepy coworker won't stop asking her out. When a vigilante group called Cerberus starts picking off Helix Enterprise's clients it is Fallon's job to look into a new security firm to assist with any leaks the company may have. However, when three masked men start stalking her every move and finally capture her she had no idea what they could possibly want from her. Until they start demanding answers from the CEO's daughter as to a trafficking ring that her father was assumingly the head of. Will secrets start surfacing that had long been laid to rest and will Fallon make it out a love and one piece when the men who threaten to kill her also threaten to steal her very heart?
Fallon was a spitfire and I felt like I really identified with her. She was so desperate to have her father's approval even though she knew deep down she would never be good enough. She was willing to blindly trust even when she shouldn't until facts were laid in front of her that she couldn't deny. And, of course, she has an aversion to pants that made some of the interactions with the men comedy gold (relatable!). I felt terrible for her when she was tortured and even worse for her when she started to realize that everyone she ever knew was potentially a threat to her very existence. The poor girl disappeared and her father barely batted an eyelash. That had to be hard for her to wrap her mind around. But she was stronger than any female lead I have seen in a while. Even when you think she is going to crack and break down she finds a way to hold it together and throw some sass around in equal measure. She was the rising star of the book for me.
I had never delved into the whole masked men fantasy that BookTok tends to boast about a lot. This was a new one, but I wasn't disappointed. Declan, bless his little psychotic heart, was a favorite for me. He took what he wanted and when he had it refused to let go. Even while the other two were trying to be martyrs and self-sacrifice Declan was standing at the back defiantly shaking his head. Nope. That wasn't going to happen without his say so. He wasn't the leader of the trio but he was definitely the one that encompassed the most bratty of attitudes. I found him endearingly adorable.
This book will take its reader on a rollercoaster of emotion that will leave you angry, hurt, confused, and leave your heart bleeding out all over your Kindle. It is a must read if you are into masked men, reverse harems, or strong female leads.
WOW I want Cerberus to capture me!! Who wouldn’t with three MMCs like Matteao Declan and Akio. I could not put this book down. I devoured it and stayed up till the early hours in order to finish it.
This book follows Fallon Helix who’s been through some trauma in the past and is the daughter of the big boss at the family business.
Fallon gets stalked then captured by Cerberus who are a vigilante group who are determined to out all those who are involved in really bad stuff and this stems from when something happened to their sister Luna. They want to use Fallon to get to those who they believe are part of sex trafficking The story continues to explore all their relationships whilst she is in captivity and some of it gets rather hot at times. The dynamics in the story between Fallon and the 3 MMCs was so well written - one of the best plot lines I’ve read.
Love the fact that Fallon is a FMC that won’t be messed with despite her issues. Each of the three main MMCs are very different to each other but they all have a very close bond as brothers usually have. Whilst not blood brothers they have all had their own issues in the past and come together at a time when each of them needed a friend and this friendship is special.
This book had me gripped very early on. The storyline was well written with the spice as part of the story not just added for the sake of it. The plot is a both spicey and a thriller at the same time and is brilliant. The story from start to finish was absolutely brilliant. It is left at the end on a major cliffhanger and I for one will be the first in line for the second book.
Check trigger warnings before reading this book as they might not appeal to everyone.
H M Crane thank you so much for letting me have a copy of this as an ebook early. I feel very honoured to have read such a wonderful book.
I went into this book blind, just intrigued by the cover and knowing it's MFMM. I've been in a bit of a slump but this definitely got me out of it. It's been a little bit since I've read a why choose. I loved everything about this one.
The fmc Fallon is the daughter of a powerful and very wealthy man. She gets kidnapped by Cerberus and it's a whirlwind from there. Cerberus gave me Anonymous vibes. Masked group that's keen on exposing and taking down criminals. They have very interesting torture methods too😬
“Maybe we realized that to get the answers we need, we were dancing on the line of becoming the same monsters we’re fighting against."
This book does take a while to get going. The relationships between the fmc and mmcs take time to develop but I kind of prefer it that way. Each mmc is unique and each of their relationships with Fallon are different. It was intriguing to watch how they all unfolded. This is more of a slow burn in my opinion. The spice doesn't really pick up until halfway through the book.
"My knees connect with the ground as I prepare to worship at the altar that is Fallon Helix."
I'm not sure if I have a favorite mmc yet but I'm leaning towards Akio. He's the hot computer nerd. Then we have Declan, the brute, and Matteo, also a brute but he can cook 😏. Each of them takes care of Fallon in their own ways. The tension was written well, the smut scenes were great, dirty talk 👌
"...if you don’t trust me, then you have exactly five seconds to tell me to stop or I’m going to fuck you until you scream.”
This ends on a cliff hanger. I promise you'll want to jump right into the next book. I am eager to see what the hell Fallon is going to do now.
This was a pretty easy read. Lots of funny banter beteeen characters and the FMC is relatable. She’s strong, funny, forward and has little self preservation. But she’s also vulnerable and has been hurt in the past.
The MMC’s are decent thus far.
Spice is hella good.
Fallon Helix is the PR guru at her father’s firm. She’s savvy and kind, and sassy as all hell. She is abducted one day and finds herself smack bang in the middle of a conspiracy that leaves her questioning everything and everyone in her life.
As she spends her days as a captive, slowly her captors start to realize she’s innocent, and their relationship with her changes.
Along the way, the men help Fallon discover some of her own truths, but some secrets are meant to stay hidden.
⭐️ Plot: 3,5/5 🌶️ Spice: 3,5/5 📖 Genre: Dark Contemporary Reverse Harem 🏞️ Setting: Axton Harbor 🗣️ POV: Multiple 🛏️ Tropes: - Masked men - Reverse Harem - Unearthing Secrets - Forced proximity - Lies and Betrayal - Mysteries to be solved - Abduction/ Kidnap - Falling for her captors - Sex Trafficking
TW: Assault/ SA (not depicted on page) Torture Murder
Oh man, I have some new book boyfriends with the MMCs (collectively known as Cerberus).
The main FMC, Fallon, has gone through a lot in her lifetime and is a bad boss because of it. She still has PTSD from the trauma she's experienced but, can still find the good in things, even when the MMCs put her through some stuff in the beginning (don't worry although they are dark MMCs they are not iredeemable)
I like how the story is not all about spice, yes, it does have that but, it's so refreshing to have a why choose story filled with PLOT! I'd describe this story as a combination of thriller + spice + enemies to lovers vibes.
My favorite MMC would have to be Akio, he's just the "teddy" of the group with a tinge of psychotic vibes (mostly that only comes out when his loved ones are threatened though)
It does end on a cliffhanger so, just know that going into it that there will be more to come. However, I can't wait to see how everything comes to an end so, I'll keep on reading once the next book comes out.
Three sexy masked men - An agenda and a direction .
Enjoyed the sexual tension and the banter between the three men and Fallon …
The storyline flowed easily creating intrigue and leaving the reader wanting to continue , to see in which direction the story was going.
We see growth among the characters, the purpose and how Cerberus came about .
Unhinged moments , that will either have you frowning or rooting for the cause behind them .
Friendships and purpose are gradually introduce along the story .
Sexy scenes that will have you flipping the pages and an ending that will leave you wanting more .
Enjoyed the character development . Each guy having his own characteristics, both physically and mentally. The way in which they all were portrayed has you wanting to find out more.
First off let me just say, OH. MY. GOD!!!! Fallon is such a bad ass who has been through so much! Aiko, Teo, and Declan are absolute top tier! Three masked men on a mission for revenge! I cannot wait for book two after the cliffhanger! I am looking forward to seeing where this goes. I absolutely love a book with plot and spice, boy did this book have it. The banter between characters is one of my favorite things ever! The development with the relationship between all of these characters was fantastic! As a dark romance reader this was a great book with so much to it! Fantastic writing, looking forward to seeing more of the Fallon I saw toward the end of the book, and I cannot wait to see how the boys handle what’s to come!
Omg the chokehold this book had me in was intense! I absolutely loved it. This is a dark why choose romance.
I loved Fallon. Such a strong fmc. And despite her circumstances with the three MCs, the banter was so hilarious. She would not back down!
"𝒟𝑜 𝓎𝑜𝓊 𝓌𝒶𝓃𝓉 𝓉𝑜 𝓉𝓇𝓎 𝓉𝑜 𝑒𝓈𝒸𝒶𝓅𝑒 𝒶𝑔𝒶𝒾𝓃?"
I loved the men. I love grumpy unhinged book MCs, looking at you funshine. These guys are morally gray. Matteo, Declan and Akio. I have a soft spot for them all and can’t wait to read more!
The plot is so good. It’s emotional at times and very dark. I love the suspense and twists to it. Honestly it’s a favorite read this year and I can’t wait for the second book!
This is my first book by H.M. Slade and I am throughly impressed. The story is well written and jammed packed with action, drama, and suspense. It had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. There are some really darker moments that you definitely feel throughout it. So, with this in mind please check your triggers. Fallon is a feisty and strong young lady that you quickly come to love. She has been through some things but still comes out on top strongly. The guys personalities are a mix and definitely adds to the story. The ending we get to is very shocking and I absolutely cannot wait not to read the next book to see what happens next.
This was a quick read. Theres mystery, romance , why choose , vigilante justice.
It starts a bit ominous — 3 foster siblings lose their foster sister and then time jumps to when they’re all adults. They’ve started a security company looking for answers and are behind Cerberus (a vigilante group). The FMC is the daughter of one of the men they believe to be the head of a human trafficking ring. They kidnap her in connection to her father but eventually admit she plays 0 part in the illegal underbelly of the company. One by one they start to fall for her but hold a big secret that sets off a ripple effect and then BOOM cliffhanger

I enjoyed this book a lot. The plot had me hooked from the very beginning and the more the story unfolded the better it got. The characters were very well written and I absolutely loved that the FMC and her friend were just as strong as the MMC’s. The banter was hilarious and I enjoyed the unique relationships Fallon has with each of the guys. There is a mild cliffhanger that definitely has me jumping into the next book, to see how the rest of the story plays out. The only downside to this book for me was that there wasn’t enough spice or darkness for my liking. Could possibly make a good beginner book for someone starting their dark romance journey.
Very much enjoyed! I loved the FMC and how she was an actually good example of a strong female character!
A lot of authors advertise a ‘strong’ or ‘badass’ FMC but a lot of times they end up just being overly stubborn or snarky and lack depth. But Fallon had a power house job, stood her ground on important things and was a survivor of so much trauma that managed to pull herself through and survive.
I enjoyed all of the male characters too. One of the rare RH novels where I don’t really have a favorite of all the MMCs. If I had to pick, it MIGHT be Aikio but I enjoyed them all! Great story too.
This was an incredible read and I have 3 new book boyfriends!! Declan, Matteo, and Akio are YUMMY, and I need more of them! This book had an awesome storyline, and a fierce, fiery FMC in Fallon. She definitely gave the guys all they could handle. I devoured this book in one sitting, I just couldn’t get enough. The ending left me thirsty for more, and I can’t wait for the next book in the series!!
The way this book and these men captured ME!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️
I must say it is criminal that this book doesn’t have more ratings and reviews because it was absolutely fantastic!
The story line is great with the perfect amount of spice that is authentic to the story, not just thrown in for the sake of a sex scene. I loved the dynamic and growth between the FMC and MMCs.
I loved the characters, the banter, the tension, the suspense. The pacing is just right, keeping you hooked as the story alternates between moments of scorching tension and depth.
It does end in a cliffhanger, but I’m not even mad about it because I cannot get enough of these 4 and can’t wait for book 2!
Holy hell. This is a seriously awesome why choose series opener. A vigilante group of masked men who take down the most evil and corrupt to honor their foster sister?! I loved everything about it. Fallon is badass and hilarious. Akio is sweet and deadly. Declan is deadly and low-key sweet. Matteo is a dick but what a good dick. I cannot wait to dive into book two as this ends on a serious cliffhanger!
I found this book entertaining despite being rather predictable. It was a 3.5 star read for me, but I rounded up because I thought the character development was well done and I enjoyed reading about the budding relationships between each of the characters (especially that last maze scene, IYKYK). I am curious to see where the next book goes from here and do plan to continue the series. I need more Matteo y'all.
Okay I'm addicted. I'm frothing to get to the next book! And I can actually say for the first time there isn't a guy in the trope that isn't my favorite, Even if Mateo is a d***. 😉 The one thing that I would critique about it, is the parts that sell to jump into things with a specific guy. Once minute she's going to meet her friend, the next minute she's "getting acquainted" with Mateo? There's another part in there that's like that as well. But overall I love it!
So you get to know the main fmc and her back story finding out all her horrors and get proud of her for rising up. Just so you could cliff hanger the hell out of the reader…… you evil evil author you!!! Ok sorry….. now absolutely buying the series actually got this one as a freebie during a stuff your kindle event…… needless to say I’m buying the series. The torture the spice the mystery ….. chefs kiss 😘!
a new to me author … but one i will be adding to my favourite list of authors 👍🏼
a very well written / very well edited book … strong and likeable FMC … hot MMCs … banter/ snark / humour/ heat … make a winning and enjoyable combination
the writer has a definite gift for story telling … here’s hoping the rest of the series is as good as book one
So, so good. Characters grab you from page 1 and never let you go. There’s a fantastic revenge driven plot and plenty of tension between Fallon and the guys, which turns into spicy times at just the right moment in the book. I need the next book right now.
Was nice & fast paced. I really enjoyed the storyline behind it and that it wasn’t just straight spice. I hope in the second book to see more of a relationship develop between Fallon and each of the brothers individually. I would have loved if the story started with more of a background about the brothers and Luna.
