Sutten Mountain #3

Chase Our Forever

Rate this book
Dean Livingston needs a new live-in nanny, and I need a safe place to stay.

I’d been running from my past when I stumbled into the small town of Sutten Mountain, tired and alone.

That’s where I met a broken single dad and his adorable daughter.

Dean has more money than he could ever spend but couldn’t keep a nanny. After firing every eligible candidate in town, he was desperate for help.

So when his daughter fell in love with me after one brief meeting, I instantly became perfect for the job.

The arrangement was always meant to be temporary, but seeing Dean start to heal and open up makes me want to stay. Seeing how happy his daughter is makes me feel like I belong here.

Now, I’m slowly falling for the town of Sutten—and my boss.

I know better than to open myself back up and to give my heart to a man who swore he’d never love again.

But maybe with enough time, we can stop fighting our feelings long enough to fight for the family we’ve created. Maybe we can run toward each other for once and chase our forever.

Chase Our Forever is a small town, single dad, billionaire, age gap romance releasing on October 10th. This will be the third book set in the fictional town of Sutten Mountain. It is a complete standalone.

This is why the widower trope rarely works for me. He just looooved his late wife way too much. 😭💔

My heart breaks a little every time he and the people around him reminisce about her. I think it's from sadness because the late wife seems like a good person. But I also think it's because she was the proof that he already found his one great love. 😩

I know there are different kinds of love IRL, but since this is fiction, I don't want any of that. Idk, I just can't help but think that Liv (h) is always gonna be the second best. And for some reason, I know I'll be unconvinced that what Dean's going to have with her is a deep-consuming kind of love. 🤷‍♀️

Then, the fact that it took him only a year (or a little over) to go on a date and indulge in ONS soured my mood.

It took me over a year until after Selena passed to agree to a date with a woman. It was someone who was visiting for a work event, and it was exactly what I needed. Something casual with no strings attached. I’ve had plenty of one-night stands and brief relationships since then that never amounted to anything. I didn’t want them to. I never wanted to care for someone again, but I was only human. I wanted to feel a connection with somebody else on a physical level.

How is he able to do so when the loss of his wife is still so fresh? He had been in a relationship with her for 18 years, from the age of 14 until 32. And this is how he manages his grief? 🤔 Aside from that, he has a one-year-old baby. I know his family was there to help him, but shouldn't he put his sole focus on his kid rather than these empty hookups? 🤧🥴

Obviously, people manage their loss differently, but I expect a lot more from Dean. After all, that woman was the love of his life. Was she not? 🤦‍♀️😮‍💨

I've read books with widower/widow leads who have taken a longer time before they even get the courage to be with someone else, but Dean is DEFINITELY not one of those. 🤦‍♀️ I can't believe he actually moved on way faster than I had expected.

On the other hand, Liv has only been with one man—a coworker she indulges in backroom hookups with. She tried it to get over being a virgin, but it wasn't good, so she's still basically inexperienced. 🤦‍♀️😒

There's just too much imbalance between the MCs. I can't do it anymore. I'm at my breaking point and need to end this, ASAP. I'm just not the right audience for this. 🤧

I hope this works for other readers, though.

I had the absolute HONOR of alpha reading this for Kat 🫶 I plan to re read the ARC then giving my full review

UPDATE:

My full review - it’s no secret I absolutely love single dad, especially single dad x nanny, and for her first single dad romance, Kat knocked it out of the park.

I absolutely loved Liv & Dean but the star of the show is Clara, Dean’s daughter!

This is the only Kat Singleton book that made me cry so do with that what you will. 🫢

This is so corny and at the same time it made me fell asleep a couple of times 😭

Not another book where the MMC is the one who experiences 2 great loves while NOTHING for the FMC. Absolutely nothing. There’s a great disparity between them that I didn’t expect cuz I’m hoping that at least there’s some trace of experience for the FMC because I kept reading these single dad x nanny type of books where they tackle serious topics but almost ALL of those books have zero experience or innocent main female characters. And I really gotta wonder why in our Lord’s year of 2024 is this prevalent? (Genuine question)

I feel like authors nowadays romanticizes single dad too much? It’s always what the man deserves, what the man needs, it’s always a win-win situation for men for experiencing life and love while writing their female characters as someone who’s abused or running from someone bad and stumbling to the grumpy single dad. Like come on! Aren’t you contemporary authors mostly women? Why don’t you want your FMCs as someone who’s experienced and someone who knows love? Why is it always someone virginal or someone celibate or someone who experiences nothing of the same intimacy the male characters experiences before?

Like the book here literally said it’s the first time for the FMC to experience the physical AND emotional connection and wanting someone as much as she wanted the MMC. While the MMC experienced ALL OF IT before. That’s super disgusting. I’m so tired of this kind of writing and portrayal.

And yeah yeah it’s like in real life blahblahblah, it happens in real life blablabla. Women in real life also happens to have tons of experiences, they have considerable encounters of love and sex, so why not utilize that more? (this needs to be a study, I should’ve volunteered this during my psychology class)

*sigh* okay I’m ranting now so imma end this by saying that this book is a greatly written albeit slightly corny book about the polyamory between the MMC, the FMC and the MMC’s dead wife. Yaya for emotional and spiritual threesome! ☺️

Okay I just want to start off and say that I adore Kat and have previously really enjoyed and loved her books. However, this one was a miss for me. This was one of my most anticipated reads and it just fell flat.

This book follows Dean and Liv. Dean lost his wife shortly after his wife tragically passed. A year later Livvy is passing through town and decides to stop at the local bakery in Sutton Mountain. This is where she runs into Pippa and Dean. She ends up getting a nanny position with Dean even though he can’t seem to keep a nanny very long.

Alright well here it goes…I felt like Dean was described as very much still in love with his wife (I mean it’s only been 3 years and they had been together since they were 14, he is in his 30s) and very grumpy. (And I know they talked about how he has ONS) He also cannot keep a nanny bc he ALWAYS finds something off about them. So you are telling me that as soon as he meets Liv, he starts thinking differently?!?!? After a couple interactions…not to mention that after a month of her being a nanny he is in love and wants her to stay. I’m sorry I know Kat’s thing is insta-love and that doesn’t bother me…but the emotion with this backstory and love story does not vibe with me. I’m not saying you can’t love after loss…but Dean and his ex-wife seemed to have that BIG love so Dean having an insta-lovey story did not feel right to me. Would of also loved to see him more grumpy..it seemed once he met Liv the grump was gone.
The consistency of the Clara really bugged me. One second she was talking in complete, thought out sentences and the next paragraph is made-up words and babbling. Maybe it’s a me thing and I don’t have kids so maybe this is really what happens but it drove me bonkers.

Like I said I love Kat and all the previous books before this one…I was really disappointed with this being the end of Sutton Mountain.

Will I continue to read Kat? – Absolutely. Every book an author writes is not going to be for everyone even one of your favorite authors and this is what happened with this one.

If I were to pass away… I would want my hubby to eventually find a Liv for him and our tiny humans.
(To be clear: I’d like him to wait a couple years like Dean here did)

Single dad x nanny
Liv was top tier of this trope.
The things she did revolving around the former wife 😭
Dean, tortured & grumpy millionaire
Clara, adorable kid

I will miss Sutten Mountain, the most hallmark town ever.

Daddy Dean has officially entered the chat! And can I say, this is the perfect way to end this series!

I first want to start off by saying, I am so excited to be back in Sutton Mountain for one last time. But I am also so sad because this is an end of an era. I think the Sutton Mountain series is one of the most underrated small town romances that does not get enough hype. Like why is no one talking about this series?

If you have read this series then you know Dean Livingston is the hot single dad in Sutton. After he tragically lost his wife in a car accident, he was left to navigate his grief while raising his daughter. Throughout this time his one challenge has been finding a nanny that he can trust with his cute and sassy 3 year old Clara. None of his nanny's made the cut until he walked in Wake and Bake bakery and met Liv. Liv intended on just passing through Sutton until an opportunity arises to be Clara's nanny.

Honestly this has to be one of the most heartfelt single dad x nanny books I have ever read. Did I cry? You bet your bottom dollar I did. There were so many moments in this book that a made tear up. From seeing Dean try to accept his feelings for Liv, while also wanting to honor his wife. Ugh talk about pulling on my heart strings. And then to see Clara immediately love Liv. This book turned me into a puddle. The three of them made such a cute little family and I am so happy that they were all able to find happiness.

So please be warned, this is an emotional read. Kat will be pulling at your heart strings. You will be going on an emotional rollercoaster with this one. I think I experienced every single emotion while reading this one and to be honest I wouldn't change a single thing. I was able to relate to this story on some level. Now I have never lost a spouse so I don't know what it is like to go through that grief but I have lost a parent at a young age, so I was able to resonate with the stages of grief on some level. And the significance of a red cardinal and the things that Clara said brought me so many emotions.

Ok well now I am sad all over again just thinking about this book and series. Like I have mentioned above, I am just so sad this series has come to an end. I don't want to leave Sutton Mountain. So let this be your sign that if you have not read this series yet, you need to!

You should most definitely read this book if you like:
- Small Town Romance
- Single Dad x Nanny
- Age Gap
- Billionaire
- Forced Proximity
- He Falls First and HARD
- Grumpy x Sunshine
- Slow Burn

* I would like to say a HUGE THANK YOU to Kat Singleton for allowing the pleasure to read Chase Our Forever as an ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts, opinions and review. I am so sad to see this series come to an end but also excited to see what you have planned for the future!

I am totally not ready to say goodbye to Sutten Mountain, but these two were a great happily ever after to end this series on.

💜 Single Dad
💜 Billionaire MMC
💜 Boss x Nanny
💜 Grumpy x Sunshine
💜 Love after Loss
💜 Age Gap

Dean Livingston stole my heart, broke it and then put it back together again. I loved him and I just wanted to reach in the book and give him a hug. This grumpy, stoic, grieving man was so broken and watching him find joy in his life again…. Sobbing puddle on the floor.

Liv and Clara made my whole heart happy with the way they really connected with each other and felt immediately like they should be part of each others lives. I love how Liv kept Clara’s mother’s memory alive even as she found her own place in their little family.

This one was angsty, emotional and just hit me in all of the feels. I laughed, I cried and then I full on sobbed (the cardinal 🥹) and in the end enjoyed this final installment of a series I love.

I didn’t know how much I would love the slow burn of this one but it just made this story even better!

This was good, but not amazing. The concept was fun, and I always enjoy a good single dad book. However, I didn’t find it particularly original. The story started as a slow burn, but then it shifted to instant attraction, which felt too rushed given the circumstances.

I did love Clara; she was super cute, and Dean was also pretty hot. One aspect that felt lacking was the exploration of Liv’s past and how she grew up. It was mentioned that she left her hometown to escape, but we didn’t get much explanation about that.

By the time I reached the end, I could predict exactly what would happen, so it didn’t feel like much of a plot twist. Overall, it was a quick read that I enjoyed, but it didn't leave a lasting impression on me.

Daddy Dean's story is the perfect way to end the well-received Sutten Mountain series. Dean Livingston has been navigating life after the tragic loss of his wife, while raising his adorable and sassy 3-year-old daughter, Clara. Finding a nanny that Clara likes and fits well with their family has been difficult. It's hard for Dean to trust anyone with his baby girl. Enter Liv. She is a free-spirited woman who stops in town and stumbles into Dean's life at just the right time. Liv only plans to stay for a short time, but after quickly forming a connection with Clara, she feels pulled to make her stay longer. Although Liv doesn't have experience, Dean feels there is just something about Liv that makes him give her a chance, and he hires her as Clara's new nanny.

I adored Dean and Liv together and loved the development of their relationship. Their chemistry is undeniable, and their slow-burn romance is filled with so much emotional depth. I loved witnessing Dean grow as a character. When he meets Liv, he is still grieving the loss of his wife and wrestles with opening his heart to love again. Liv helps him heal and realize he’s worthy of having love in his life again. Their journey from strangers to a family is beautiful, emotional, and perfect. This story definitely pulls at your heartstrings and requires some tissues. I will never look at a red cardinal the same again. The scenes with the cardinal wrecked me and caused me to have uncontrollable tears.

If you are looking for a heartwarming romance between a single dad and a nanny set in a wonderful small-town community, Chase Our Forever checks all the boxes.

Thanks to Kat Singleton for the gifted eARC. Opinions expressed are my own.

Chase Our Forever by Kat Singleton 🌄

Sad to see this series come to an end, but this was a sweet ending. Dean had been a character very briefly mentioned in the first two books of the series that had me curious to hear his story. A single dad who is closed off and hesitant to let people in, but obviously would do anything for his daughter. I'm glad he was able to get his second chance at falling in love and Liv ended up being the perfect match for him.

Liv has been driving in search of a place she can finally settle down when she stumbles upon Sutten Mountain. Her first day in town she ends up meeting Dean and his daughter Clara. He is searching for a nanny and despite Liv not having any experience, she gets along great with Clara and Dean takes a risk in hiring her. It's obvious that something had happened in Dean's past which causes him to be closed off and a bit grumpy, but there's a pretty instant connection between Liv and him. Slowly Dean starts to open up to Liv sharing what happened in the past to Clara's mom. Liv is faced with a tough choice of opening her heart further to him when there's a chance he will never reciprocate. It becomes harder and harder for each of them to fight their feelings though.

I always have a good time reading Kat's books. There's moments that make you swoon and plenty of spice. Dean has a tragic backstory and was still heavily grieving the loss of his wife which honestly had me a little worried about how the romance would play out. Liv and Dean were definitely meant for each other but their love story felt a tad bit fast for me. I would have liked to have seen it happen over a longer time frame given the headspace Dean was in. I would have liked to learn more about Liv's past as well since it felt a little brushed over.

While you don't have to read the first two books in the series, I recommend them!

idk if i will come back to it, it’s the last book in the series so maybe i should make an effort. anyway i was excited for this book being single dad x nanny, but i was finding it a bit boring. first of all the fmc has had a rough past and she’s constantly commenting with literal strangers that she has had a terrible childhood ecc without explaining more, so those passive aggressive comments were annoying me. secondly and lastly the mmc is a widower and i mean it’s okay for the people from the town to praise his late wife, but the fact that it is said that he’s constantly grumpy because he hasn’t spoken about his grief with anyone gave me the impression he hasn’t moved on (3 years has passed btw) and i don’t think i will like it if this is the reality; also they were high school sweethearts, so basically they were soulmates

Grab your tissues. I didn’t think I need any until I started reading this book. I read nearly every singleton book and I have to say this is my new favorite. 10/10⭐️

Our last book in Sutten Mountain small town that we’ve all fallen in love with and it’s the most heartwarming and beautiful slow burn romance.

Liv is taking a journey, not knowing where it will lead to, but to just get out of her hometown and start fresh in her life. And she lands right in the town Sutten Mountain and into Wake and Bake Coffee and Cafe… she finds the yummiest baked goods…. And a possible job as a nanny.

Dean is a single daddy to the most adorable 3 year old, Clara. He’s gone through too many nannies and just wants one that is the perfect fit for his little family and that his daughter can bond with and love.
He’s a recluse and a grump. He can’t help it. Trauma will do that to you.

Dean and Clara understand one another and the respect and understanding for each other is the start to their love story.
Both hold trauma yet seek comfort in one another’s presence and it’s slowburn to a romance.

“I love the thought of having some consistency in our life. And there's something about Liv that makes me feel like-and maybe even hope-she'll be in our lives for a little while.”

“I don't know what it's like to fall for someone. I've never done it, but I have to imagine it's something close to this.”

I’m so sad to see these characters go but what an ending to an incredible series.

I’ll be thinking of Dean, Liv, and little Clara for a long time.

eARC REVIEW: What a great conclusion to Sutten Mountain. This is the third book and can be read as a stand-alone, but Rewrite Our Story + Tempt Our Fate come before it and are definitely worth your time!

Liv is a young, but mature woman who was finally able to leave the unsafe home she’d grown up in for a better life. Driving with no final destination in mind, Liv stops in Sutten Mountain for food and finds herself at the local coffee shop, Wake ‘N Bake (best name ever!), and bonding with the barista + owner, which turns into her staying in Sutten for awhile.

Dean is the widowed, single dad who also happens to be the towns grump. After his wife (his high school sweetheart) passed away from a tragic accident when their daughter was an infant, Dean hasn’t opened up his heart to anyone new thinking he can protect himself that way. Little does Dean know that’s all about to change when a stranger rolls into town and is open to being his daughter’s nanny.

Liv + Dean are seriously the sweetest together. She is the sunshine to his cloudy. They compliment each other so well. I absolutely loved how their relationship started out as a business arrangement of her being his daughter’s nanny, then transitioned to a true friendship with trust being built, and then turning romantic. They both did a great job of reading the other and providing what they needed in that moment. The thrift shop + the photo album are just two examples of many. And I can’t continue on without mentioning Clara. She was the cutest + sassiest little girl and her connection with Livvie was so heartwarming. She made me tear up towards the end with the cardinal conversation.

I’m sad to see Sutten Mountain come to an end, but I remain hopefully some of these characters will pop up in other parts of the Kat-verse. Thank you for the ARC opportunity, Kat. Release day is 10.10.2024!

4.5⭐️ ARC review

As much as I hate to say goodbye to Sutten Mountain, what a love story to end on.

This book felt safe. Felt like a safety net. Dean and Liv had such a heartbreaking but heartwarming story. The single dad nanny trope was once again done beautifully and was so much more than the tropes alone.

Dean Livingston lost his wife so it has been him and little Clara facing the world. Dean is the classic closed off single dad who wants to give his daughter everything under the sun and best life possible. He is the dream girl dad. He is dedicated to his family and with that comes a fierce side of protectiveness. When Dean starts to open you can see how sweet and loving he is towards everyone and learn the walls are to not only protect Clara, but to protect him and his heart so he doesn’t face the biggest heartbreak again.

Liv, just Liv, is a walking ray of sunshine. She is bright and pure. Beautiful inside and out. When she entered Dean and Clara’s life, you were able to tell she figured out exactly where she belonged. She recieved the love she deserved, the family she always wanted. She gave more than she received more times than not and that is just who she is as a character. Liv became a second mom to Clara with ease and made Dean open up and learn it is possible to move on after a tragedy.

Liv and Dean were such a perfect match. Exactly what eachother needed. They made me cry from the healing from tragedy and finding their place with eachother. Their feelings towards eachother and carrying eachothers weight was heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. These characters slowly clawed their way into eachothers souls. Opened eachother up, their worlds went from black and white to vibrant colors. They revived eachother.

ERMAHGERD!! This book was so freaking good! I am so happy that I got the ARC because I couldn’t wait any longer to read Deans story! He did not disappoint!

Dean has been struggling recently trying to juggle his job and his daughter. He’s gone through multiple nannies as none of them seem to be able to handle the job. His wife passed away suddenly a few years ago and that’s made things very difficult for him as well. He doesn’t open up very easily and he keeps people at arms length so he doesn’t get hurt again. He doesn’t expect that to change when he sits down to interview Liv.

Liv is looking for a fresh start. She’s had a very rough upbringing and she’s finally living life on her own. She drives into a small town and instantly falls in love. When a job falls into her lap she decides to take the interview and see what happens. Neither of them expected to mesh so well and for his daughter to take a liking to her so fast. They’ve become fast friends and Clare has a very good judge of character for only being 3 but she gravitates to Liv which makes the decision to hire her all that much easier.

It’s a live in position of course so the close proximity to each other makes them realize pretty quickly that it isn’t a normal boss / employee relationship. They both seem to want more from each other but won’t cross that line, afraid of what it might do. When things finally shift after he drives her to go shopping, it’s like his world started spinning for the first time in years.

I adored this book and the spice between them was so good! The laundry room 🫣🫣 and their first time together 🥵🥵 loved it! I am going to miss the characters in this series so much but I will say, Dean was my favorite!

This is the third and final book in a series and it was the perfect ending! I’ve been curious about Dean since he was first mentioned and though Liv was a brand new character she won me over so fast. Both of them have some tragedy in their pasts and seeing them overcome and work through their trauma together was so sweet. The way Liv tried to honor Dean’s late wife was absolutely beautiful and so touching and her relationship with Clara, his daughter was adorable. If you like single dad, boss/nanny, small town, age gap and grump and sunshine this was so so good!

Oh…..my…..heart.

First, let’s start by saying that little Clara is absolutely adorable! I want to spend time with this sweet girl. Dean is an amazing father and protective over his daughter and his heart because of the death of his wife.

In enters Liv, who has to have one of the biggest hearts despite her horrible past. She is just passing through Sutton Mountain and stops at the famous Wake and Bake. There she meets little Clara who has an instant connection with her. Liv is kind of pushed to interview for the Nanny position for Clara and Dean.

After that you see the attraction that Dean and Liv have for each other. You feel them fight it. The way Liv makes sure Clara’s mom is remembered and honored is just heartwarming. The whole dynamic of this little “family” and being with them to watch it grow and then fall in love with each other is everything. This book is so sweet and makes you feel so happy and loved.

DNF @ 30%....I'm a third of the way into this book and nothing has happened. It's on the boring side and there has yet to be some kind of connection between the characters. Also no other nanny has worked out and they never said why but somehow every1 seems to think this one will after not even a day?? Liv's actions r kinda sketchy too, some random stranger stopping into this small town that everyone has fallen in love with after 5 mins even though she keeps all info about herself guarded. Sure, let's make her the live in nanny just like that, sounds logical

The way Liv described Sutton Mountain at the beginning of this book is 100% the way I would imagine myself feeling when I find the perfect small town. It set the tone for the book and I was hooked immediately! Small town setting 🤝🏻 Single dad/nanny romance. I loved Dean and Liv in this one. And Clara is the cutest little girl! The big family was fun to read about and so good to both our MC’s. There are a few emotional parts but they were done so beautifully I only had happy tears. The cardinal!!! 🥹❤️ Such a great finale to this trilogy!

The sweetest ending to one of the sweetest series I've read. I ADORED Dean and Liv, and Clara was such an amazing character in this book. Her attitude was fun and sassy and gave them both a run for their money. The way the developed so naturally into the most adorable family made my heart feel so full.

I really loved Dean's character development in this book. We got to see him heal SO MUCH from such a huge trauma in his life. He was always the best dad to Clara but Liv was such an integral part in enhancing his character to become someone who feels worthy of giving and receiving love.

I adore the Sutten Mountain crew and will more than likely go back for a reread to spend time with them again. They were all so sweet and there's not a single miss in the series.

I have no words other than HOW BEAUTIFUL this story was. My oh my this will forever hold a special place in my heart. Can confirm lots of crying happened.

Truly, Kat's writing is one of my favorites. I cannot get over how immersed this entire story was. She broke my heart right from the beginning and put it gently back together.

Never been so glad to say goodbye to Sutten Mountain. Kat Singleton is an automatic read author for me. Rewrite our story was so beautifully written, that I’ve been dying to finish up this series. This one was a big, fat flop. I didn’t feel an ounce of chemistry or angst between Dean and Liv. They went from boss/nanny to being in love out of nowhere! There wasn’t anything substantial that happened to build up to the moment they finally hooked up. Every scene was predictable and the whole book fell flat for me.

I just hate the widow trope i’m sorry😭Like I LOVE a single parent trope but when he’s a widow and the wife was just so perfect and they were just soooo in love and everyone around them reminisce about how perfect she was it just makes me wanna die a little lol. also the church/dead wife as a bird thing was just not my cup of tea to find in my romance book. Also he was apparently this horrible boss who fired nannie’s or was so bad they quit right away but someone how he was like in love with her two weeks in and not grumpy lol? Too insta lovey for a supposed mega grump
