G-Man #1

Diamond Girl

Rate this book
Book #1 - G-Man Series.

Fate hasn’t always served Samantha Dennison well.

A shotgun wedding when she was just 16 years-old to a man who has been cold and distant at best, Samantha devoted herself to raising their only child, Lindsey for as long as she could.

But now, Lindsey is away at college and Samantha can no longer deny her empty life, and doormat existence. At 35, she is desperate to carve out an identity for herself and shoot some adrenaline into her tattered self-esteem. It is with that purpose in mind, she signs up for pole-dancing lessons, never imagining this single decision will change her life forever.

People close to Samantha would never have guessed the soccer mom they once knew could transform herself so flawlessly into the seductive "Diamond," a pole dancer at a Gentleman's Club in Indianapolis. "Diamond" becomes the object of one biker's attention, and as much as she tries not to cross that line, fate once again intervenes, and this time she's fully prepared.

If you enjoy romance, twisty suspense, and second chances at true love, this book will not disappoint!

All books in the G-Man Series can be read as a standalones, but are most enjoyable if read in order since the characters interconnect.

I was excited to read Diamond Girl and when I first met Slate I honestly thought I would enjoy the book. Great body, hot tattoo, blue eyes, dark hair…yes! He is definitely my kind of hero from a physical POV. Not a bit of it! His physical attributes did not match up to his skills (or lack thereof) between the sheets. Up until the first sex scene I actually enjoyed the story, and I really liked the pole dancing. Though many little things killed the mood for me. Let me get down to business.

 photo Bildschirmfoto2013-03-16um223454_zpsfc537a1d.png

What did not work for me

★ Really poorly written sex scenes. I would have given Slate the boot. I was like "That's all??"
✩ Weak and subservient heroine. I cannot wrap my mind around the fact that this woman has spent 19! years of her life with such an asshole. Her husband doesn't kiss during sex, and he likes to be rough. Imagine, she never had an orgasm. Not. One. Single. Orgasm. In. Nineteen. Years. Besides, she obviously did not masturbate either coz she said that Slate gave her the first orgasm. There was a really bad scene Come to think of it I had to wonder that she wanted to seduce him in the first place because he doesn't even get her off. When I don't have an orgasm in 19 years then I think I would lose hope somewhere along the way. I mean I wouldn't want to have sex with such a jerk. I would have divorced him. Plus, she knew that Jack never loved her and she didn't have the guts to ditch him? It's hard to believe.
★ Very TEDIOUS inner monologue put into annoying parenthesis.
✩ The book needs better editing in general.
★ PLENTY of semi-colons.
✩ The term "rat bastard" has been mentioned 45 times. I'm the first to say that Jack is a major asshole. However, I'm not stupid and after the umpteenth time I really got it that he was a "rat bastard". *rolls eyes*
★ She was talking about getting sweet texts. I don't understand what's so sweet about "We need to fuck."
✩ Terms like "down there" (reminds me of Fifty), womanhood, manhood and member do not appeal to me. *insert major eye roll moment*
★ Lindsey thinks her mom and dad are in love. She idolizes her parents and it's all about sunshine and roses. But wait a sec…suddenly at 73 %: "No Mom, how could I possibly think that about you? All of these years--the years when I became aware of things between you and Daddy--I wondered how you did it for so long."(…) "I wasn't blind, Mom.(…)" Aha. She always knew that something was off. Seriously?

 photo tumblr_miqrx804Nm1rrl2a0o1_500_zps9f3f3772.gif

✩ Samantha needs to find her own identity. She wants something of her own. Uh-huh. Right. But what does she do? She jumps out of the frying pan into the fire. From Jack to Slate. It was not enough to obey Jack. Nah, poor Samantha had to obey Slate as well. He told her how to dress etc., etc.
I was never to come by his place without having first received an express order to do so by Slate. I was to notify him by text when my period started so that he knew I would be 'out of commission' for a few days. (That one had made me blush with embarrassment.) Not Baba but Samantha.
I was to get no tattoos, body piercings or change hair color without obtaining his permission in advance. I was to work out and stay in shape. He inquired as to what type of birth control I was using as he didn't want to continue using condoms since we were to be exclusive. Fifty, anyone???

 photo obey_zps44240cce.gif

★ There was no sexual tension and no chemistry whatsoever.
✩ The ILYs were not believable.
★ It came as no surprise at all that Slate

 photo tumblr_m3u7efi3h81rt4lnro1_500_zps53dc3148.gif

✩ Samantha to Lindsey: "Honey, I'm going to be honest with you because you are a woman now and you deserve to be treated like one.(…)" That pissed me off. It's so patronizing. Let's face it, do we lie to our kids? Don't they deserve our honesty? I am always honest with my kids because they have a right to know the truth.
"Okay Lindsey, if you want the truth you shall have it. I only hope you can handle it." WTF? She is a college student. It's beyond me that a mother would talk to her child like this. Is she projecting her own shortcomings onto her daughter?
★ Jack being
✩ Dancing
★ The endearment 'babe' felt…dunno…wrong?
✩ I'm getting a bit tired of bad childhoods providing the hero's reason for not being able to express his feelings. And let's not forget the ever present trust issues and other fears. Blah, blah, blah. So, to make a long story short, almost at the end of the plot I have been graciously enlightened about his issues.

"Christ, Sammie," he said, "I mean what the fuck? I know that you love me. You think I can't tell by the way you treat me? You're having for the love of Christ; can't you tell that this makes me fucking happy?"

Baba: Duh? It was

I nodded. "So, what's your point?"
"What's my point of what?"
"What is the point that you are attempting but failing to make, Slate?"
"I just think that you must know how I feel by the way that I treat you, alright?"
Not Baba but Samantha's inner monologue: (Where the hell is he coming from with that?)
"Actually, I don't."
"You don't what?"
"I don't know how you feel about me."
"Oh Christ," he said, totally uncomfortable with the conversation. "I think it's pretty obvious, Samantha. Use your head."

Wow. Baba is impressed. Not.

 photo tumblr_mfipdthSD21rrl2a0o1_500_zps6c4940aa.gif

This is a pretty huge spoiler but worth reading. I really, really wanted to smack him. Gah!

★Drum roll…now we're getting to my last issue which made me kinda angry. Slate is Sorry, but this plot twist did not appeal to me. At all.

This might be another case of "It's not the book, it's me." Give it a try and maybe you'll love it. Good luck!

★★★★★! Diamond Girl, book 1 (stand alone). Suspenseful romance with intrigue & villains; personal growth & second chances; sizzling sex & an enigmatic, domineering alpha male hero.

Diamond Girl is first book in the G-Man series. Though each book has its own hero/heroine I recommend they be read in order:
Book 1: Diamond Girl
Book 2: Love Plus One
Book 3: Night Moves

At first glance Diamond Girl sounded like a story about a bored Cougar housewife who embarks on a secret life and then has an affair with a younger man. It really isn’t that at all – at least not for me.

Hero: ”Slate”/age TBD – mid to late 20’s/biker/dark hair/blue eyes
Heroine: Samantha Dennison, aka Sammie, aka Diamond Girl, aka Sunny/35 years/married/housewife-heir to a pharmaceutical company-part-time pole dancer/dark blond hair/green eyes

Story is told mostly from Sammie’s POV, but there are several chapters of Slate’s POV.

Sammie found herself pregnant at age sixteen the night her high school’s varsity football player, Jack drunkenly and quite forcefully took her virginity. Rather conveniently for Jack her father, a wealthy man and founder/CEO of a pharmaceutical company insisted they marry and set her husband up on a successful career within his company. They enjoyed a financially comfortable, albeit loveless marriage while raising their daughter Lindsey.

Diamond Girl opens up with Lindsey having left home to attend University. Sammie, feeling lonely and not liking her status as “Stepford wife” joins a gym and gets in shape and ends up attending pole dancing classes. Next she gets a part-time job as a pole dancer at an exclusive gentleman’s club. Shortly thereafter she meets Slate…

“Any time, Diamond,” he replied, giving me a sexy smile. He turned going back to his group. I watched as he sauntered away, totally mesmerized by his powerful presence.”

Sammie, to best describe her I need to clarify that I am of the opinion that the better the hero the more difficult it is for the heroine to measure up. I would describe her as a woman who has meekly been controlled and ruled by the men in her life, first by her father and later by her pig of a husband who in addition has been mentally abusive, unloving and neglectful all the 19 years of their marriage. She has never experienced an orgasm with her husband (unclear on whether she ever had one at all). All this said, she does grow a backbone along the way and there is a spark in her and she has a sense of humor about herself that is endearing:

“I was contemplating dropping out [pole dancing lessons]; I could barely move a muscle. It had certainly burst my ‘I’m in great shape’ bubble.”

Slate has so many qualities I like in my alpha male heroes. For starters her has murderously good looks; tall, dark and handsome with a striking and sexy physique and presence. We quickly learn that he has a very dominant, bossy and enigmatic personality. And he is emotionally unavailable to Sammie:

“Did we make love today, Slate?”
“We f~cked baby. That is what you and I do. We f~ck. And today we did it damn well.”

Slate has secrets and here it gets tricky for me to review without giving away spoilers: Just like Sammie Slate goes through a transformation in the story. And though I like the bossy domineering heroes, I did like the progressive Slate better, he was more mature, still bossy, but more on the protective side and he was much better in touch with his feelings. He did also change his looks just a little as well as his clothing which quite did it for me:

“So are we good then?” I raised my face up to his and we kissed.
“Maybe,” I said, starting to feel better.
“Only maybe?” He cocked an eyebrow at me, his eyes full of amusement. “How can I change that ‘maybe’ into a ‘definitely’?”

As Slate and Sammie embarks on a sexual affair, we are privy to some scorching sex scenes:

“I need to know that you will be a good girl and not scream. Do you promise?”
“I promise,” I said gritting my teeth, arching my back.”

Alas, their budding romance quickly hits a bumpy road with villains, a mystery and dark forces set out to break them apart and even hurt them. Some of the secrets you may guess along the way, but others you may not. For me it was very much a suspenseful romance with an unraveling mystery, as well as a story about second chances. I will say no more as I want you to enjoy the story for yourself!

It has been announced that this will be a series, but my understanding is that each book will have its own H/h. For those of you who need to know about what type of ending…

Andrea Smith’s humorous writing style clicks with me and I found myself chuckling on many occasions. Diamond Girl was a suspenseful read. I very much enjoyed Slate’s and Sammie’s journey!

Samantha ‘Sammie’ is a thirty five year old woman who has been married to the same man for almost twenty years. Her husband works a lot and doesn’t appreciate her. Her only child just started college. Sammie is lost. Her life isn’t really her own anymore. After spending the last eighteen plus years taking care of her husband and daughter, she hasn’t had a life of her own. After some much needed encouragement from her daughter and her best friend Brenda, Sammie decides it’s time. For once in her life, she is going to put herself first.

 photo 18e40fa3-51ce-4b32-9c58-75f69746d0cc_zpsd3f6692a.jpg

Sammie joins a gym. She takes kickboxing classes, and eventually takes a pole dancing class. She takes to it quickly. Sammie feels free pole dancing, its something she enjoys. It makes her feel like a woman again, sexy, adventurous. Its something just for her. Sammie ends up getting a part time job at a classy club as a pole dancer. She has a secret identity as ‘Diamond Girl’.

She meets lots of interesting people at the club. One being a biker named Slate. Slate is younger than her. He is sexy, dangerous, mysterious, interesting. For some reason, Sammie can’t get him out of her head. Slate wants Sammie too. He has a complicated life, but he can give her no strings. After living with and abusive asshole of a husband who always out of town and cheating on her anyway, what does she have to lose?

Things between Slate and Sammie get hot fast! Steamy, sexy, fun. But there are lots of secrets between them. When the secrets come out of the wood work, and they realize that their lives are more intertwined then they ever imagined... what will happen between them?

My feelings had to count for once. If they didn’t, then I hadn’t learned anything from the past nineteen years of marriage to the mannequin. I was done being that person that allowed someone else to define their existence.

I love biker books. I love self discovery books. This one had a lot of action, drama, and a hot biker hero. I liked how Sammie started off weak and as a bit of a push over, but with time and confidence, she came into her own. I loved the message that it’s never too late to do something for yourself, to live the life you want to live. I think some people get to a certain age/place and feel stuck just like Sammie. There were some predictable twists and turns, but other things that caught me by surprise. I of course loved Slate... especially towards the end. I’m looking forward to the next book in the G-Man series, about Sammie’s daughter Lindsey and Taz.

I loved this BOOK!!! I'm going to say right off...this was far from perfect. I had a couple of things that bugged me. But I'm rating this purely on my enjoyment of the story. And I enjoyed the hell out of it!
I read...
and read...
and read...
and I just never wanted to put it down!

Often, even with a good book, I'm checking the percentage, checking the time left until I finish reading. Just to see how late I have to stay up, or how much time I have left before I have to get up and do dishes or run errands or whatever. Not so with Diamond Girl! I didn't give a hoot how long I had to go...I was gonna keep reading until I passed out or finished this story!!

What I loved:
The premise...
A woman in her midthirties, stuck in a loveless marriage. She loves her daughter, and she does her duty to her demanding and absent husband. They married very young (Samantha was seventeen) and her father, the owner of a successful pharmaceutical company, basically gifted her husband with an extremely lucrative and stable career. So Samantha has been a stay at home mom to their daughter. When her husband's business trips begin to take over more of his life than his home life does, and their daughter goes away to college, Samantha decides to do something to make herself feel better. Something for just her. She begins to take some exercise classes and eventually a pole dancing class to try to spice up her sex life.

When it becomes clear that sex with her philandering, ass hole husband is no longer a viable option, Samantha gets a job pole dancing at a gentleman's club. She doesn't strip...she strictly dances. She loves the music and the mood, the dancing, and of course...the male attention.

"My feelings had to count for once. If they didn't then I hadn't learned anything from the past nineteen years of marriage to the mannequin. I was done being that person that allowed someone else to define their existence."

All of this info is handed to the reader very quickly, with little detail added. I LOVED this part of Smith's "intro" to the meat of the story. I was really not looking forward to pages and pages without the sexy biker that I'd been promised. Believe me, you don't have to wait long to get to the goods.

Slate:

Hot biker dude, comes into "Diamond's" establishment to watch the show. It's apparent from the start that Slate feels a bit partial to Diamond. However, I WILL say this: he is not exclusive with his Diamond...but there is NO infidelity. Just a friendly heads up...Slate is very much a biker dude...at first **evil laugh**

One thing I really loved about this story is that it didn't romanticize the biker lifestyle. In fact, it sort of shows the seedier side of life as a biker's old lady. These guys are rough stuff, and in my opinion, only someone with very low self worth would voluntarily be involved with one of these guys. That's not at all what Samantha, or Diamond Girl, gets from Slate, however.

"Did we make love today, Slate?"
"We fucked baby. That's what you and I do. We fuck. And today we did it damn well."

Slate gives Samantha back her sexuality. He makes her feel like a woman, he makes her feel protected and sexy, an object of lust and an person to be taken care of all at the same time. And THAT'S what I loved about him. Sure, he's a douchecanoe a couple of times, but he's never anything but himself. (Which is ironic, considering...) Ole Slate is of the mind that he will never let any woman take control of his heart. Until Diamond starts to mean more to him than she should.

I really, really, REALLY loved Samantha. She's a woman who's been in this ridiculous sham of a marriage for soooo long. This is a woman that should be beaten down and feeling so low...but she really doesn't. Sure, she gets a little bummed. But she doesn't turn into some sniveling, whiny woman, running after Slate and begging for scraps of attention. In fact, when he gets too pushy with her about keeping feelings out of their relationship, she fights back...she flat out doesn't call him or contact him. She's the least clingy chick EVER! I LOVED HER!!!

"If nothing else, I now knew that I was capable of enjoying great sex. I knew that I yearned for intimacy and clo9seness. That was something that neither Jack nor Slate was willing to give me."

My dislikes:
The sex scenes...I just cannot connect with the sex scenes from this author. The word "very"...gah! "Very erect shaft", "very muscular butt", "totally exquisite". These qualifiers detracted from the intensity of the sex scene. Take out very, and I'd believe the sexiness more. As it is, I feel like I'm trying to be convinced that it's hot. And it ends up being...not...hot :(

There are some twists and turns in these here hills as well. One that slowly sneaks up on you. I had it somewhat figured out by the time it was finally revealed, but boy...it's a big'un!!! And it was well placed...it kept the action going and kept my interest piqued for the entire book.

The biggest thing that I took from this book was to never settle. Even something that seems permanent doesn't have to be. In relationships in particular, it takes TWO people to make it work. It's not worth it if the other person has given up. YOU are worth more as a person. And you only regret the chances you don't take.

2.5 Disappointing stars!!

When this book was released I was so psyched to read it! Bad boy/Biker/alpha male!
I was like Whoooooop whooooop!

I was so sadly mistaken!

Samantha is a 35year old woman who is married to an ASS hole of a husband for 19 years.

Let me break it down:

1- It’s pretty evident he doesn’t love her
2- He is never home
3- He treats her like crap
4- They hardly ever have sex

Her daughter and best friend urge her to find a hobby or something to keep her busy since her daughter Lindsay is going to College.
So she finds herself doing pole dancing classes and Pilates and for the first time in a long time she feels good about herself.

Offcourse her ASS SHAT husband doesn’t notice squat!

Then she takes a job at a club as a pole dancer called Diamond without her husband knowing.

This is where she meets ‘Bad Boy’ biker Slate.

They start a romance- a Just sex one only. No feelings allowed.

I don’t even know how this even happened because she like knew him for 5 seconds before she was in the sack with him.

He makes her quit her job saying its not safe.. So she quits:
This woman goes from one ASS SHAT controlling husband to an Ass hole controlling boyfriend! STUPID MUCH??

Sammie’s life:

1- Married for 19 years and shes NEVER ever had an orgasm? OH PLEASE! If that’s the case, why would she beg her husband for sex?
2- Husband hits her, rape’s her and calls her a whore she’s okay with that? SHE IS MORE DELUSIONAL THAN I THOUGHT
3- Shes suddenly in love with Slate? OH please! She doesn’t even know him! I think shes in lust with him

Sammie decides she wants more from Slate and he is the Wham Bham thank you Maam kind of guy. SERIOUSLY, how does she find this SWEET? Saying I miss you isn’t allowed?
APPERENTLY this is supposed to be HOTTT erotic sex- bleh there was nothing HOT about it.

This is where its supposed to turn into a thriller or whatever- her husband finds out and keeps her hostage at home.
She is now pregnant.

The twist supposed to be shocking but I really wasn’t that shocked at all.

It shows that people are not who they pretend to be.

There was nothing erotica or thrilling about this book and the story line is pretty weak too.

description

NOT!

And that is exactly my biggest issue with this book. Despite the realistic feel to the characters and their interactions, the situation and the romance didn’t make much sense to me. I never felt the sizzling sexual chemistry between the main couple and Sammie was a little too accepting and doormat-ish for my tastes.

Slate and the G-men gang, were hot and delicious but trying to prove their alpha maleness superiority made them look like assholes, a lot. Hot and irresistible, abrupt and arrogant, he managed to get on my nerves a lot. Nevertheless I want on record that he is HAWT!

description

In all, this book isn’t bad at all. It definitely worths a reading. Even though I saw the twist, like a mile away, it’s fast-paced and suspenseful with plenty of smexy times… The main characters were probably not my cuppa tea. I already started the next and it is a lot more believable, exciting and finally I make some much needed sense of Sammie and Slate’s relationship! I am sensing a 5-star rating in my near future…

I absolutely loved writing this book. I have always wanted to do a story where some under appreciated, still 'naive' at mid-life heroine wakes up and smells the coffee. That is exactly what happened to Samantha Dennison. It is refreshing (at least to me) that sometimes a heroine can still be sexy and vital after sending her only child off to college and finally, discover her own sexuality and individuality.

Samantha was defined by those around her; those she took care of and strived to please: Jack, Lindsey, her parents. Finally, at age 35 she got the wake-up call and oh, what a call it was!

Who would have imagined the instant chemistry between Sammie and 'bad-boy' biker Slate? It was there and as much as Sammie was confused by it, Slate was infuriated by it. She was not his type of chick or was she?

Sure Slate had the omnipresent 'commitment' issues that is not so rare in this genre of book, but think about it. It's not so rare in reality either!

I hope those who haven't read 'Diamond Girl' will give it a read. For those who have and have taken time to rate and reciew: I thank you very much!

This book is about love, trust, and then about taking responsibility for ourselves and ultimately taking control of your life.

What's it about
A housewife, a mother, a cleaner, a cook, a maid, and no identity, no hobbies or interests. Well that's what Samantha, aka Sammie feels like she has spent the last 19 years being just this a mum and a wife to Jack the Ass. When her daughter leaves to go to college she try's to talk to her mum into taking up something, filling her life with something other than being a wife to Jack and to definitely start to enjoy her life 'start to live' her life.
Sammy's clothes aren't fitting the way they should so she undergoes a exercise regime, she starts to trim up and firm up and definitely loose weight, then the exercise isn't enough and she wants to become something to earn her own money to have something just for her so she gets a job at a Men's club where she dances for Men as a pole dancer.

 photo poledancinggif2_zpsd905db45.gif

Jack is away on business 'ALOT' this gives Sammy the opportunity to get into her new role, live her life and get her Independence.

Enter Slate
 photo slate_zps0b0a4097.jpg
Slate is a bad boy/ biker part of the local Motorcycle club, they come do 'Jewels' dancing club pretty often and there's something about Slate that Sammy can't seem to stay clear from, Slate is edgy, Hot, and rough.

He turned going back to his group. I watched as he sauntered away, totally mesmerizing by his powerful presence. That was the only way that I could describe it. There was a sense of power he excuded, and it was sexy, damn sexy.

But Slate is also protective he is an Alpha male after all, and doesn't want Sammy to continue to be 'Diamond girl' he thinks she has no place there. They try to stay clear but they don't seem to be able to do that, after several attempts to stay clear they start to embark on an exclusive sexy and dangerous relationship.

"Come here," he gently ordered in a dark voice. "I want to touch your pussy. I want to see if it's worthy of my cock."

 photo erotic_zps273712c0.jpg
 photo passion3_zps6cbf12ee.jpg

But the more they spend time with each other the more they want more and especially for Sammy:'Diamond girl' Slade is giving her the most amazing time of her life, Jack just doesn't deliver that nor does he love her.

But are their lives entwined more than they think? Are they be known to them tangled in more ways than one?

Samantha aka Sammy aka 'Diamond girl'
 photo samantha_zpsd92705b4.jpg
Ok she has been through a lot in the past 19 years and she is starting to get her life back together, maybe for the first time. Now don't judge her thinking she's 1. a slut and 2. a whore yes this is a story involving cheating but it really didn't bother me reason being I don't like Jack the 'Rat Bastard' he's cold and doesn't feel anything and well he's just cruel, he wants Sammy under his finger at his beck and call I'd probably do the same thing if I was in her situation. So really I'd give her a hug for taking some responsibility for her own happiness and who could resist a HOT Alpha Male?!!

My thoughts
Ok this is a good read, I enjoyed it but there is a few things that annoyed me.
Firstly although this is an enjoyable read and it griped me from the beginning it lacked emotion, and I did 'NOT' feel any chemistry between Sammy and slate. Secondly I felt Slate had a split personality I mean one minute he wanted Sammy to take control of her life, to enjoy herself but be her own person, then when they got together he had rules and Sammy then just said yes without hesitation.

Saying that I was unable to put it down I read and read and continued to read in the wee hours of the night/morning There is so much in this book that I just can't explain it without giving it away but what I will say I it kept me hooked and It kept me on the edge of my seat even with the lack of chemistry I personally felt I still loved it.

This book was the first book for me that I seriously thought that I would continue to hate the hero. By the end, I did understand him more; but even with all of the reveals about him I still wouldn't call Slate one of my favorite's. I had a hard time forgiving some of the things he did in this story. I am rating this book a 3.5 stars for the main reason of my dislike of the hero for a big portion of the book. I do need to say that as far as the writing of Andrea Smith goes, I am definitely a new fan. I found she was able to keep me intrigued by her story line, even though I wasn't feeling the love for some of the characters.

At the start we are introduced to Samantha/Sammie, who is a house wife that is finding that she is having an identity crisis. She has been married to the same man for many years, in fact; they were very young when they were married. Jack and Sammie ended up dealing with her becoming pregnant, and seeing as she came from a family that owned a well known pharmeceutical company, the expectation was that they would be married. Over the years they raised their daughter Lindsay, who is now in College. With her daughter being gone, and Jack often gone on business trips, Sammie has starte to feel unfullfilled in her life. She joins a kickboxing class, and through this class is where she learns how to pole dance. Sammie ends up in a situation where she is introduced to a lady who will give her a job pole dancing at a place called Jewels. This is where the fun begins, and events transpire that change Sammie's life.

While dancing at Jewels, she becomes aware of a Biker club of men that come around on the nights she is dancing. This is when she meets Slate, and the sparks immediately fly between the two of them. Circumstances at home are becoming terrible with Sammie and her Hubby Jack, to the point that one day he crosses the line and hits her. Not only is he being abusive, but she suspects he is having an affair with his secretary and he is going away for long periods of time. Considering her marriage is going down the drain, the attraction to Slate becomes extremely hard to ignore. Yes, Slate and Sammie (he knows her name to be either Diamond or Sunny)begin an intimate relationship, and let me just add that it is more a "fuck buddy" situation; but how long can they keep it up before they might be caught. Also, there is more going on with not only Sammie's husband; but also with Slate. All around Sammie seems to be secrets, lies, and deception. What will happen when things come to the light? Would she be willing to leave her husband for Slate? Or is that even an option? There are so many questions, and when the answers start coming, it is impossible not to be blown away by what we learn. This is the reason that this book is hard to put down. There is never a dull moment, and at times it will keep you on the edge of your seat!

This is a series that I am looking forward to continuing. Not only are the covers absolutely sexy; but the story lines do seem to keep me on my toes. I like a book that has hot sex as well, and this one certainly didn't disappoint in that area either. Even with my frustration with the hero, I would recommend readers to give this series a try. It is very entertaining, and there is no shortage of surprises that make it so you are constantly wondering what will happen next. I can't wait to see what Book two brings, and there are still a few loose ends from this book to tie up. Even though there are, there still wasn't a cliffhanger; which seems to be hard to come across in books lately.I will be checking out Andrea Smith's other past works as well because so far I seem to really like her style!

I rarely give a book 1 star. There were just so many things that added up to…1 star. Needless to say, I did not enjoy this one. I don’t even want to discuss it too much because I’m just…indifferent. I’ll just give you 3 reasons why I didn’t like it:

1. The heroine is THE WORST! Everything she says is annoying. It is really hard for a heroine to annoy me. I think she's dumb. There is an actual lack of intelligence.

 photo dorothybrainhadonegif_zps0a4d07ac.gif

2. I don't like the writing style. I don't like the dialogue. I don't FEEL anything. I don't like the story line. It's not very creative. I predicted everything.

 photo BBT-the-big-bang-theory-32386275-500-281_zps62fcd6ed.gif

3. I want to rip the daughter to shreds! She's dumber than the mom. And apparently, she is the main heroine in the next book! No spank you!

OK, word of warning. This novel does contain extra-marital cheating – the husband is a real fuckwit tosser but it’s still cheating and I know a lot of you like to be forewarned.

So, we have Sammie suddenly suffering from empty nest syndrome after her daughter goes off to college and deciding to spread her wings a little. She gets fit, gets back into shape and learns to pole-dance but her husband wouldn’t notice if she paraded around naked on her hands singing the national anthem so, feeling rather disillusioned, Sammie starts a secret life as a pole-dancer at a club called Jewel using the name Diamond. Her husband is often away from home and it’s easy to keep her sultry alter-ego secret from him.

The club she works at is frequented by a Biker Gang, the notorious Outlaw MC, and Diamond manages to catch the eye of Slate – he of the intense, piercing blue eyes. Their attraction is incendiary and hard to resist and Diamond tries for a while but ultimately she gives into the sizzling intense chemistry between them and starts a no strings affair.

Sammie’s a great heroine who fell pregnant at sixteen and was forced into marriage by her parents. I love the way she tried hard to find herself after dedicating her life to her husband and daughter for years. She’s beautiful with a big heart but her rat bastard husband has never truly loved her and they are both making each other miserable. She sets out on a journey of self-discovery and finds that there’s a world of possibility out there just waiting for her to take those first few steps. She’s lying to everyone though – she’s lying to her husband and she lies to Slate about her true identity.

Slate was everything you’d expect a badass biker hero to be – he’s tough, bossy, assertive and most definitely a bit of a chauvinist. He wants Sammie for sex, he expects her to be at his beck and call and he doesn’t want to get close to her in any way but his growing feelings will make it harder for him to stick to his own rules as Sammie slowly starts to get under his skin.

There’s a whole heck of a lot of plot twists in this one and nothing is what it seems and nearly everyone is lying or has something to hide. Sammie’s rat bastard husband starts to show his true colours as they both start to grow ever further apart and there’s some shocks in store for Sammie and Slate. I loved that I never knew what was coming next and Andrea Smith does a good job of keeping up the intrigue and it’s very erotic with some shit-hot sex scenes. I really liked that this heroine was a little older – she’s in her thirties. It makes a refreshing change. I didn’t like the way Sammie capitulated completely to Slate’s demands once they established that they were ‘seeing’ each other and allowed herself to be controlled by yet another man and give up the one thing she loved doing just because he told her to. I also don’t think that bikers come off too well in this one – Yes, I know that they’re not polishing their halos but I do love me a badass biker hero!!

This is an enjoyable and sexy romance with a fairly unexpected plot line.

35 yr old Sammie was pregnant and married at 16. She is at a cross road in her life. She is in a loveless marriage and she is pretty sure her husband is also cheating on her. Sammie is left feeling Frumpy and at a complete loss at what to do with her life now that her daughter is going away to college. She starts exercising and end ups in a pole dancing class. She finds that she is good at it and it gives her a freedom from her life. She eventually gets a part time job at a gentlemen's club where she is known as Diamond.

There are many twist and turns in this book. Some you see and some you don't. I loved that the heroine was 35 and Slate was younger. How much younger, you will have to read to find out. This is a book about self discovery, second chances, and new beginnings. It's also a wonderful love story full of intrigue, mystery, deceit, criminal activities and some really Hot, Steamy Sex!!! Andrea Smith has written a fabulous story, one that is different from the rest!!

He was the one why had taught me about love and passion. He was the one who fought against intimacy because he didn't trust it. We had both learned to trust it just as we trusted one another. He was my lover, my protector, my very best friend.

4 Tarnished, Refitted, Polished Glowing Stars * * * *

I heard a lot about Diamond Girl, the first of the G-Man series for Andrea Smith. There were positive reviews and additional books for the series. With the success of the following addition, Love Plus One, G-Man 2 and the recently released Night Moves G-Man 3, I decided to go to the source...

The Blurb:

Thirty-five year old Samantha Dennison sends her only child off to college and finds herself generally feeling F-R-U-M-P-Y and lost. Her loveless marriage to 'the mannequin' has become intolerable; her daughter and best friend have both advised 'Sammie' to get a life of her own. Her husband has his own agenda which does not include her.
Sammie finally heeds their advice and takes pole-dancing lessons to get into shape and develop self-esteem, but it serves to do much more than that! The thrill of the dance and sexuality she discovers within herself is a potent mixture. She gets a part-time job as a dancer in an Indianapolis Gentleman's Club called Jewels. She becomes the dancer known as 'Diamond' and very quickly catches the attention of a 'bad-boy' biker named 'Slate.'
Slate is the ultimate 'alpha' male; however there's a problem: he simply wants it to be about exclusive sex; Sammie wants and needs more from Slate. Sammie's certain she's embarked on a dangerous relationship with the hot biker and 'prospect' member of the notorious Outlaw Motorcycle Club. She soon finds out she's totally out of her league with Slate and the dangerous people he associates with in Indianapolis. Something big is brewing in Indy; and it's not about race cars!

This book delivers on many levels. I was entertained, kept wondering when all of the cover stories were going to hit the fan and enjoyed the awakening of emotions by both main characters, Sammie and Slate. The theme of not loosing yourself as an individual while married and being a mom was addressed in a very clear way.

There were some situations which did not sit well for me personally, though.

I am a reader who tries to stay away from cheating. It is something that usually doesn't work for me. That is not to say, I don't get the motivation in certain circumstances or how it can happen. It is just me explaining my mind set. So, although Sammie's situation is horrific and her husband is beyond any redemption, the cheating factor was a negative for me.

Outside of that issue, the book was entertaining, provided quite a bit of story, was extremely steamy and understandable as to why the series is popular.

I will be hunting down the next G-Man, Taz, to see what he will be up to with Little Lindsey... I think a big romance may be on the horizon.

3.5 Pole Dancing Stars!

Nothing like a little pole dancing to get a middle-aged, frumpy woman into shape. Sammie is 35 years old and in a loveless marriage that seems to be coming apart. Her husband is gone all the time on "business trips", her daughter just left for college so she needs to find something to fill the void that has left. She gets herself into shape and finds that she has a knack for the pole dancing class that she took. She starts working at a gentleman's club, working as Diamond, where she meets Slate.

"That body of yours doesn't look like it's been through child birth, baby. It's way too slender. It does have a way of making a guy want to plant his seed, though, I give you that."

Slate, by outward appearances, is a badass biker and a member of the local MC. She is warned away from him, even by Slate himself but neither can seem to stay away from each other. They both keep more than their share of secrets and for now, that is a good thing, but what happens when feelings start to get involved and danger is lurking around the corner waiting to destroy both of them?

"My feelings had to count for once. If they didn’t, then I hadn’t learned anything from the past nineteen years of marriage to the mannequin. I was done being that person that allowed someone else to define their existence."

This is a book about trying to find yourself...

What am I? What do I want?

Sammie has been told what to do her whole life. She got pregnant as a teenager and was forced to marry......she was a wife to someone she didn't love. Well now she's DONE, she's 35 and her daughter, Lindsey, has gone off to college. Her douche bag husband, Jack, travels for business so it's time for Sammie to figure out who she is.

So she takes some pole dancing classes......she loves it. So she finds a job where she can show off her new skills. It's quick cash, the establishment that she works at she doesn't actually have to strip, so it works for her. Yeah I know most places clothing isn't an option but it's fiction people just go with it.

That's where she meets Slate. He's a biker with the Outlaw motorcycle club, or is he? He's hot but he's also very mysterious. Of course our sweet Sammie notices him and things get hot people!!!!!

"I gazed up into the very intense blue eyes of one of the bikers. He was tall and muscular; his thick, dark hair hit just below the collar of his leather jacket. His face was rugged, yet young. He was gorgeous."

However Slate has some BIG secrets and some of those secrets concern her family. Because remember she's still married but Slate doesn't care. At first he came across as an overbearing jerk and I couldn't understand why she would go from one controlling jerk to another. However Slate redeemed himself quickly!!!!

This book has lies, cheating, drugs, motorcycles, law enforcement and best friends who stick by you no matter what happens. If you don't like cheating this book probably isn't the book for you, although her husband is such an ass you will completely understand her reasoning.

I enjoyed this book and all the ups and downs that went with it. There were a couple times I thought I was getting a little bored but then BAM something would happen and I was speed reading again. I loved the ending and I've already started book 2...it's about Sammie's daughter Lindsey and, Slate's friend, Taz.

”Come here, he gently ordered in a dark voice. “I want to touch your pussy. I want to see if it’s worthy of my cock.”

Well alright! No need to ask twice now is there?

As far as life goes, Samantha Dennison’s could be better. Knocked up and married at 16, Samantha’s spent the last 19 years taking care of her daughter and her douche of a husband. At 35 she finds herself alone in her huge house with a daughter away at college, a husband who’s cheating on her as well as verbally abusing her and no real identity of her own. What’s a woman on the verge of an early mid-life crisis to do? Two words…Pole Dancing!

Eric “Slate” Slater has secrets of his own. The first time he sees “Diamond” working the pole at his usual gentlemen’s club hangout, he knows he wants to get to know her better. Slate seems like a nice enough guy and he’s definitely all kinds of hot, but his motorcycle club compadres leave something to be desired and Sammie, aka “Diamond” rebuffs him. Eventually he talks her into having a drink with him and then into his bed, all the while believing Diamond is a trailer park wife of a truck driver out to make some extra cash. She thinks he’s a 26 year old MC recruit up to no good, but she’s willing to excuse all that due to his kick ass prowess in the bedroom. At this point in the story I’m anxiously waiting for the shit to hit the fan, and boy does it ever!

From husbands and shady dealings to unplanned pregnancies to mothers and daughters being romantically interested in the same man, this book has a little bit of everything. It felt like one big, entertaining soap opera and I couldn’t put it down. Nothing is as it seems and that fact alone kept me turning the pages. I thought I’d be able to relate to Samantha a little bit because we’re close to the same age but that wasn’t the case. Sam’s character and her life are such a departure from mine that it actually made it easier to just sit back and let the story wash over me.

That being said, I can definitely understand how this wouldn’t work for everyone. Is it realistic? Not so much. Was I personally reading this for the realism? Nah, but I was aware of all of that going into it. I was looking for an entertaining afternoon and that’s exactly what this book provided.

He was the one who had taught me about love and passion. He was the one who fought against intimacy because he didn’t trust it. We had both learned to trust it just as we trusted one another. He was my lover, my protector, my very best friend .

I really enjoyed this book, The story was unique and totally capturing.
Hot, fun to read and very different.
It was really well written!! Such a drastic and amazing improvement in the emotion and dialogue delivery than the Baby Series.. I could connect with them so a ++ point there :D

Slate was SWOON worthy hot.. But I wouldn't call him an Alpha biker.. He was different and amazing, yet strong and possessive. ;)
I liked Sammie, but hell.. was she stupid at the same time.
I loved how she grew up for herself during the book.

Slate's description doesn't look much like Chris but hell if I care.. He's all I could imagine. ;)

Diamond Girl is the story of Samantha Dennison an unhappily married mother of a college student.

It's time for Sammie to claim something for herself, perhaps a job, community service or pole dancing? Yep, Sammie starts pole dancing taking a job as “Diamond Girl” without her abusive husband knowing of course.

I liked the idea that Sammie was a thirty-five year old mom who went for something that was all hers!

description

Sammie falls for Slate a biker who frequents the dance establishment and they form a relationship.

There were a lot of twists to this book which I enjoyed however unrealistic. I’m a mom who’s over thirty-five-- so yeah this could happen.

Samantha Dennison doesn't know when she lost her identity. Okay, so she knows but she is just now realizing it. Her daughter has gone away to college and she is left in her big house with a man that shows little interest in her and even more so in being her husband. With a little shove in the right direction, she is going to redefine who she is.

After a few months of getting her body in shape she finds herself taking a pole dancing class. A board housewife without the need of a second income, she eventually finds herself working as a dancer, Samantha is now known as Diamond. But even with the hot new body and more self-confidence, her husband doesn't seem to notice. But someone does.

Slate, the blue eyed biker that sits at the end of the stage has her interest immediately. And it seems like the feeling is mutual. When she finally gives into her desire to be in the arms of a man that wants her, that desires her – the sparks fly. But there is something far larger going on. Her husband Jack, Slate and Sammie are all tangled in far more than just the sheets.

So before we begin, let me just rant for a few minutes (or hours) about what a dick Jack is. I don’t think I have ever hated a character more in my life. From the first introduction I wanted to string this man up by his balls. I was done, I didn't want to see this prick’s name in the book – he instantly just made my blood boil. And shit, this was his first parts in the book. He hadn't even begun to show his true colors yet. Typically cheating is not something that I like in a book, but I found that I was the captain cheerleader on team adultery.

Now Slate, so much alpha-goodness that I was ready to kneel at his feet, lick his biker boots and submit to any of his demands. Who could say no to this man? Not this girl.

”Come here,” he gently ordered in a dark voice. “I want to touch your pussy. I want to see if it’s worthy of my cock.”

Sammie and Slate begin a relationship, he knows about the Rat Bastard, but he wants his Diamond Girl. Slate’s life doesn't leave him open to the idea of a relationship in the traditional sense. For Sammie, she is experiencing things for the first time, things that she’s never had with her husband.

There are a lot of twists in the story, some of them were predictable but that comes with the nature of these types of books. The series name gives away a bit of what those twists entail however, that did not diminish anything as things are revealed. This was my first ready from Andrea Smith, I've had a few of her books on my TBR list for a while and when given the chance of an ARC of the third book in this series, I jumped on it. Getting ready to dive into a marathon G-Man Series session. I was not disappointed.

There was a great mix of suspense with the story-line and well written sex scenes. I was immediately pulled into this story and stayed up all night to finish it, excited to know that after a few hours of sleep that I would get to start book two.

A nice change of pace with an older heroine and a love story that doesn't involve the typical young naive girl that falls in love with a billionaire. I can honestly say that this is a book that I would recommend be read. It had a great mix of everything we love in our romance reads and is well put together.

I was visualized as a daughter; a wife; a mother; a best friend by those people in my life, but I had no clue as to how I viewed myself as a person. I had never bothered to carve out an identity for myself.

When I first read the description of this book, I knew I had to have it. Not only does the story involve an older woman and a younger man, which if you know me, I love, but words like Ultimate Alpha Male & Bad-boy Biker, got me hook, line and sinker. Oh like you could resist, too.

So we have Sammie (a.k.a. Sunny) a housewife, who is fed up with her husband’s neglectful behavior. Not only that, but we immediately suspect that he’s also a cheating rat bastard as well. Forced to marry young because she became a pregnant teen, there wasn’t really a lot love in their marriage. I won’t go much into detail regarding her husband Jack, but let me just say he is a Grade A – Asshole. And cheat. And liar. And an all around scoundrel. You get the idea.

Anyway, now that Sammie’s daughter is off to college, she feels the need to do something for herself. She starts working out, taking Pilates, kickboxing and even pole dancing. Sammie is beautiful woman and a friend suggests that she try pole dancing as a part time job. Knowing her husband travels a lot for work, she reluctantly agrees to try, but later turns out that she really enjoys it. As Diamond she feels free and liberated. It’s during her work is where she meets Bad Biker Boy, Slate.

“Did we make love today, Slate?”
“We fucked baby. That is what you and I do. We fuck. And today we did it damn well.”

Slate is a Prospect for the Outlaws MC. Although he was about nine to ten years younger, the age difference between Slate and Sunny never really became an issue. Slate wanted Sunny, and vise versa. Sex with Slate was unlike she has ever experienced, but unfortunately that’s all Slate wants. Their relationship is strictly sexual. Neither really knew anything about each other. For all Slate knew, Sunny is married to an asshole trucker and lives in a trailer. He has no idea how far off he really is. However, when Sunny’s alternate life collides with her real life, things start to get real interesting. Believe it or not, both of Sunny’s lives are actually entwined. Shit is about to hit the fan when she finds out Slate isn’t really who she thought he is. Plus more complications arise between the two that threaten to comprise their situation.

“Slate,” I said softly, “Can’t you let me be the judge of that? I can’t fuck you and not love you; I’m sorry, that is just the way that I am.”
“Jesus Christ, Sunny,” he hissed, “I’m not that person; I’m sorry.”

This story was actually more than I expected. It was hot and erotic, but it also had an actual story. There was something brewing in the background. Things were not what they seemed to be. There was even a little bit of mystery and suspense woven into it. This was definitely more than a typical Bad Biker Alpha tale. The heroine’s decision to enter such a life is a little far fetched, but it didn’t bother me since the story turned out to be quite entertaining. Since this is book one of the G-Man series, I’m going to assume there will be more to look forward to.

This one was enjoyable enough I suppose. Not the greatest book I've ever read but I did finish it. The storyline was a bit predictable, I saw the big twist coming from a mile away....and I found the inner dialogue to be a bit annoying at times.

Diamond Girl is Samantha. Samantha has been married to asshat Jack for 19 years. Sam got pregnant when she was 16 and her parents forced the marriage between her and Jack...so they have never really been in love with each other. With her daughter off at college now, Samantha finally decides to do something for herself...kind of find her own identity.

So....she starts poll dancing. And eventually taking a job in a club where she meets Slate. Slate is a biker with a local club. She has an attraction to Slate. This is where things started to not work for me. At this point, Jack starts becoming abusive with Samantha...he's controlling and just mean. Well guess what....Slate was controlling too. So it's like she traded Jack for the same thing in Slate.

But as it turns out, Slate isn't who we thought he was. And now, there are quite a few side stories going on....all of which kind of come full circle by the end of the book.

I don't know....I didn't feel much of a connection with any of the characters. There wasn't much sexual tension or chemistry between Slate and Samantha. The sex itself wasn't very hot. . Like I said, I did finish it....

Forging Ahead

Andrea Smith G-Men bk 01 Diamond Girl Slate

I try not to start with negatives, especially for a book I like, but I am going to start with something that annoyed the life out of me. I'm not sure how Samantha missed the fact for nearly 20 years that her husband, Jack, was never into her. Getting knocked up after he raped her when she was 16 (no matter how she tried to sugar coat it to herself) does NOT make a good foundation for a strong and loving marriage. He proves that to her time and again with his indifference. The fact that he cheated (and worse) was no surprise at all.

I will advise that you may want to check your triggers. Andrea Smith makes Jack so despicable that you have no choice but to hate him - and I'm OK invoking that emotion with him.

I'm not one to condone cheating, but I'm unable to fault Samantha (aka Sammie, Diamond, Sunny). This is especially true when it's revealed that she's 35 and has never had reason to roll those eyes way back into her head and... release. No woman should have to go that long to experience such bliss. Just sayin'. 🤷‍♀️

Honestly, she and Slate are mostly good together. I wasn't initially hot for the pairing as he occasionally acted no better than Jack. The fact that he usually did right by Samantha won me over.

My first impression was one of awe and appreciation. I saw Diamond-the-dancer, who looked like an angel, and danced like a born seductress. I’d gotten a hard-on just watching her dance. Innocence and lustiness all rolled up into one beautiful chick that could move her body in perfection to the music. I was intrigued. I was more than intrigued; I was fucking amazed by her.
-- Eric "Slate" Slater

As I mentioned at the beginning, I did like this book. It's gritty and real with tragedy, heartache, surprises, interesting twists, and a happy ending. There are biker gan... err... MCs, drugs, erotic dancing, some corporate shenanigans, double crossing, and domestic abuse, too. There are also fantastic, heartfelt mother-daughter heart-to-hearts - some of my favorite parts.

I received an author's copy of the audio to listen to while also reading the book. The narrator, Chandler Gray, is an unexpected choice given that the majority of the book is told from Samantha's POV, but I do like him.

Reality? What's that? It seems to be missing here.

To be honest - I was enticed into this book by some super magic keywords from a friend. She knows the kinds of books I love. So- I decide to pick it up and well- I was taken for a ride in the twist department- which I loved. However, I was also on the eyeballing ride as well.

I wish this book hadn't had so many scenes skimmed over- losing valuable showing information. I wish this book didn't make some parts smoothed over like creamy chocolate, and all is well that ends well. I wish this book didn't make the FBI guys look like such idiots that they didn't know how to do their job right.

I wish that Sammie and Slate had actually real speaking moments, and heart to hearts, and less sexy times. As it would seem they only know how to screw- get annoyed/pissed, say stupid cocky stuff and hit and leave it moments. Though- Slate does do a few sweet things- and was actually sweet. I wish Slate wasn't a total idiot/moron/asshat with his wanna be alpha ways. He was a pretender and tried to be cocky. His bossy and immature ways annoyed me. I wish this showed the couple truly figuring out love- as I didn't buy that part for the longest time. It was more about lust and pleasurable appetites.

I loved the the constant action, the twists, the story plot, and that it was a fast read that kept you glued. Otherwise- there were too many things that annoyed me.

So where does one start after reading a book like this? Well, first, I didnt expect to relate to Sammie. But man did I ever. Now don't get me wrong, i have a good marriage, my husband loves me and treats me good. I relate to her in the sense that her life is all about her child and her husband. She always a mom or wife, never just a women. I get that. I can see why she needed to do what she did.

Slate: so here is where i am conflicted. I can't really tell you all the things i liked about slate and all the things i loved due to giving away all the great moments. so i will leave you with this:

slate rocked my world and completely confused the hell out of me. He pissed me off and then he made me swoon.
