That’s all it took to leave me with a broken heart and a piece of him.

Five years later, I’m over him.

My shop. My life. My family. It’s all perfect now.

One with my eyes and his smile.

Bastien
The fear of love and loss paralyzed me.

So I rejected my mate.

For five years, I stood by my choice.

Until fate pushes me back to her again.

I lost it the moment I saw Casey again.

All the while, a larger threat looms over us.

I’m in her town to figure out a dark secret.

This book falls a bit short. There’s not a lot of rejected material angst or groveling. There is no Alpha King. Bastien is happy to follow his shitty alpha, for the most part, even though there is a lot of evidence that their commune is full of misogynistic ideals. Then again, Bastien is kind of a misogynist too, blaming Casey for years for “seducing him.”

He’s totally fine with his alpha attacking Casey. He’s fine sticking around when they demote him. He’s not a big thinker or a big actor. He lets a bunch of murderers go when he becomes alpha.

Anyway… sort of lackluster.

I don’t need my books to be written perfectly for me to enjoy them but I do need for them to make sense. This one made no freaking sense 😩

Our story opens after Bastien rescues Casey while she’s spreading her father’s ashes, only to find out they are fated mates. He is anti-fated mates because he thinks his mom died of a broken heart 🙈 but the alpha of his pack is forcing them to mate. It’s super backwards (ummm why is this most werewolf packs 😅😬) and the Alpha essentially attacks Casey when she turns down the bribery offered to manipulate Bastien. The bribery that the alpha used was literally a bigger cabin 🤔😳 then Bastien uses something he misheard to kick Casey out after a one night stand.

Then after some filler chapters where Casey moves to a tourist town, we find out Casey is pregnant. then Bastien comes looking for a pack member who might know how his dad died. And like literally none of it matters 😂 I have zero emotional connection to these characters. Probably because these two had zero chemistry before and after the time jump 😬

Alsooooo the dialogue is so bad. It’s not giving what it thinks it is. 🥲🥲🥲 and I wanted to love this book but the execution was just so bad. Like it became unbearable for me 🙃

TLDR;
Judge this book by its cover. It was NOT good at all. And the romance is 0% believable between our protagonists.

Okay

The title is misleading. There is no king in the story. Only an Alpha and a protector. The different font sizes was odd, as well as the spacing of the paragraphs. Usually, A larger space between paragraphs denotes a change in the scene, but not in this case. Something to get use to. The story itself was nice, albeit predictable. No character really stood out.

There is just something about a rejected mate secret baby troupe that draws me in. I absolutely love them since I stumbled across one a couple of years ago and I haven't stopped searching for them since. That's how I found Alpha King's Secret Baby. It had everything I was looking for. The fated mate connection, angst, a strong MFC, a twatwaffle of a MMC, and drama.

Casey was a good MFC, she was young and already going through a hard time when she met Bastian. Things went to crap but instead of letting that drag her down she dusted herself off and created a brand new life for herself and she was thriving. I loved that she didn't take any nonsense that she encountered and that she made Bastian work for it. She was an emotionally strong character.

Okay, so Bastian wasn't completely horrible. I liked him before he ticked me off. He has some poor decision-making skills in his personal life and is quick to make a judgment and stick to it. Luckily, he made up for it. I have encountered worse characters.

The plot was juicy. There is a pack that is more like a cult with an alpha that is all kinds of suspect. It's like the pack has gone backwards in time when it comes to women's rights and I seriously hated the alpha. Something is going on, things aren't adding up, and people are acting weird. Then the revelations happened and wow! Secrets, manipulations, lies, betrayal... this story ran the gambit of juicy reading. There was a lot of excitement at the end. All roads were leading to the big confrontation. I was entertained.

The Alpha King's Secret Baby was a good read, just what I was looking for.

Abandoned

I read 60% of this book, but then ended up abandoning it when our FMC accepts MMC back without even an apology.

I’m too mad.

He rejected her, humiliated her in front of a lot of people, called her a liar and a manipulator, and cruelly forced her to leave. He never once regretted rejecting her in the five years they were apart. Even after he saw her again he didn’t regret rejecting her.

This man hasn’t done a single thing so far to prove he’s even a decent individual. I guess because he has a moral compass he’s better than most of the wolves in his pack, but since he stays quiet about any issues he has with injustices being committed by his pack or his alpha he’s just a weak pushover.

This man is not worthy. Not worthy of his child. Not worthy of the mate he brutally rejected. Not worthy of forgiveness. Nothing.

This author did a great job of writing a worthless and spineless male main character.

The title is misleading

1. There is no royalty in this book

2. This kid is secret for like a handful of chapters

3. Everything is soooooo easily solved

4. The main issue is a constant lack of action of “good” people witnessing outright oppression and failing to see the danger in front of their face

The writing was meh, kinda boring.

I could not finish this book. The story did not fall in line with the 1st book in the series; it was set in a different "realm" and the writing style was different. Don't get me started on the formatting, the fonts, color and type size were different from page to page. I stopped at 40%, and could go no farther.

What in the Wattpad did I just read?? This was all telling, no showing. The story structure was abominable. The actual formatting of the ebook was completely jacked up. Just not great.

Nope, not for me. The story wasn’t bad but I couldn’t get on board with the writing style. I found it very hard to feel connected with the characters because the story was written in a rather rushed sort of way.

This was such a let down. It wasn't terrible, but when I read a rejected mates paranormal romance, I'm looking for some major groveling. That wolf better crawl back to his scorned mate. And with Alpha King's Secret Baby, we just didn't get that.

Bastien was more than happy to follow along with his sexist Alpha. (That's another issue, the title refers to an Alpha King that either doesn't exist or refers to the actual in this book and that makes it fucking gross when you understand the context.) He doesn't want a mate and he knows that his Alpha mistreats the wolves that are on pack land, but he still insists on Casey coming back with him after she's attacked and he goes along with the Alpha basically trapping her there. You know, right up until his misogynistic ass accuses her of seducing him. Then he boots her out and proceeds to hold a grudge against her for 5 years because clearly the wolf he just met was in cahoots with the terrible Alpha. He's okay with Casey being attacked by the Alpha. He's okay with being demoted after Casey flees. He just exists to be a useless man.

I wanted Casey to be a decent character but she really just existed to be a love interest for the cardboard cutout of an MMC.

There was no groveling. There was no real holding out. Overall, I didn't hate the book but as far as rejected mates goes, this was so very much lackluster.

Bastein and Casey. She didnt know much about her family except she had cajun roots from her father. And she inherited magic from her mother, but she didnt know how to control hers very well. Shes going to spread her dads ashes. Shes chased in the forest by four feline shifters. She was attacked by five shifters making her give a howl of calling. Then she heard an answering howl and knew someone was coming. Bastein was patroling his territory and he sensed something was off. He picked up the feline shifter scent. Then he picked up a female wolf scent. Then he heard the howl. He was drawn to her, her wolf, her scent. She felt safe with him. She was drawn to him. He didnt believe in the mate bond. He figured one night. That she set him up. He walked away so terrified of a mating bond that he rejects his mate. She leaves broken hearted and with a piece of him. Years later she has her herbal and healing shop in a small town with her family and then it happens, he appears. Theres truths revealed, lies exposed, kidnapping, danger and passion. WOW what a story, what a journey. Loved every minute of the read, loved every page. Couldnt put it down.

Bittersweet betrayal - Bastien and Casey are thrust together when she's attacked on his pack's land and he saves her from certain death. Not wanting a fated mate, Bastien rejects her after a night of passionate bliss. In this one instance, he will not be the alpha's pawn. But they should have known fate would not be denied her due. A mission to bring an accused deserter back to the pack reunites the two, forcing them to face feelings they kept buried for so long. When their son is kidnapped by Bastien's alpha, truths will be revealed and loyalties tested as the lovers race to little Theo's rescue. They will bring him home. Together.

This is the first tale in the series but the second I have read. Another enjoyable rejected mate story. To his credit, Bastien took to Theo even when he didn't know Theo was his progeny, and didn't castigate Casey for her deception. He proved himself to be the good man she first met, despite all that had happened. Betrayal and lies, passion and love, victories and losses. A great combination that make up this great story that has a few moments of gleeful childish joy also.

Casey has lost both of her parents now and is going to a park her dad had told her about to leave their ashes. While she is there she is attacked by some shifters, but another shifter saves her. Bastian is part of his packs security, and he is the one that saved her and takes her in while she heals. However, after one night he packs Alpha says she is his fated mate and he has to mate her. This has him refusing her but when he comes home to find her hurt things heat up between them. A misunderstanding has him throwing her out and rejecting her all over again. Now years later Casey has relocated somewhere she feels safe at and is raising her son when Bastian comes back in her life. Will they finally clear things up? Can they find their way back to one another?

This is a great story that will have you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next. This is a well written and very entertaining story. Its a book that any book lover would enjoy.

Lone wolf's secret baby

A good start to a new series and I really enjoyed reading this. A well-written story full of secrets, fated mates, love, kidnapping, magic and discovery, with plenty of twists.

When lone wolf Casey goes to spread her father's ashes she's attacked by a group of lion shifters and saved by the leader of the local pack protectors. He feels protective towards her and something he's never felt with any of the women in his pack, and offers to look after her while she recovers. But when she wants to leave again his Alpha insists that they are fated mates and need to stay together. Bastian has never wanted a fated mate after losing his parents who were fated themselves, and after an unexpected night of passion he rejects her and she runs.

Five years later Bastian is sent to track down a run-away pack member but he finds Casey who has a new life for herself, and a son. Seeing his mate, Bastian finds it hard to deny his feelings a second time, while also discovering she has an ability to use witch magic. But there are dark secrets that he's beginning to unravel and with Casey and her son involved he will do everything he can to ensure he can protect them and his pack.

No king here and the hero is no alpha too.
This author seems to have a script, hero meets heroine, they’re shifters, fated mates, he has sex with her then for some awkward reasons he dumps her.
She leaves. Five year later they meet again, this one never looked for her because he didn’t have a mate, he thought having a mate was a liability since his mother died soon after his father.
Heroine has had his son, but she tells him it’s not his son. So, the hero decides to help her anyway and after finding out his ,other didn’t die because his father died but because she was poisoned by the alpha, he wants the heroine back.
Minimum fuss of the heroine, barely any grovel, they fight the bad alpha and the hero becomes alpha in the end.
Not great, I didn’t like that the hero wouldn’t have wanted the heroine, and probably never had looked for her. Both celibate during separation, which is why I rated two starts instead of one since it was really not great.

Tropes: werewolf shifter, fated mates, rejected mate, secret bay, second chance romance.

After her father d**s, Casey is on her own as a lone wolf. When she finds Bastien, her fated mate, in the woods, they spend some time together before falling into bed. But Bastien pushes her away and rejects her due to the lies that his Alpha has been telling. Casey leaves, starting over in a new town for herself, and the secret she walked away with.

Years later, Bastien bumps into Casey when he is out on an assignment and discovers her secret. Will he discover the truth of Casey's secret? Can he win her back after hurting her years ago? Will they get their happily ever after and be a family? I can never skip on a good werewolf shifter, secret baby read. This book provided a strong fmc, entertaining plot twists and a hea where she makes sure the mmc has to work for her forgiveness.

More secret babies after a rejection…

I forget how cookie cutter some of these stories are. This one has some flourishes that add to the story, but it’s well written at least.

The guy doesn’t want a mate so he sends her away. She’s trying to leave but the Alpha wounds her and she ends up back with the guy. They have their night together but the guy eavesdrops and thinks he’s heard that she planned the whole thing. So he makes her leave.

Five years later she has had the baby and the guy ends up in the little town she fled to. The guy’s Alpha is a tyrant and he’s ordered the pack to do some stuff that will harm her and her son.

It all works out eventually and the guy and the girl get back together. It’s a fun read with some interesting small twists.

I liked it! KU read and I can recommend for rejected mates lovers.

it’s alright

I’m giving it 4 stars because I don’t have any complaints about the story itself. I’m not giving it the 5th star because this was a very bland story. Very predictable. No depth to any part of it. You don’t get a chance to really know the characters. There is very little detail of their backgrounds. It’s like the author made a bullet point list of what they wanted to happen in the story and then added a sentence or two to each bullet point and then published it.

Overall, though, it was a decent story but will be easily forgotten by the time I start the next book in my list.

** I have no idea why it has the title of Alpha King’s Secret Baby. The MMC was the leader of the pack’s protectors. He becomes the alpha at the very end, but at no time was he an Alpha King. **

Started this on a whim since I was looking for a new book to try and well I do love shifter books! This book was different from what I normally read, but I really enjoyed it! It's a second chance with a family dynamic. The MMC was a bit stubborn and stuck in his ways in the beginning and the FMC was sweet but broken. Together these two had to overcome the pressures of an archaic belief in Bastien's pack and the broken trust of a one night mating. Casey was a sweet and protective mother to her son and with Bastien just popping back up into her life, it brought back a lot of feelings and confusion for her. Plus I can't forget Casey's best friend, this character was super forward and I loved it! Over all this book is sweet, witty and was a quick read.

Very good read !!

I enjoyed this story of Casey and Bastian.
Casey is a young lady, taking her father's ashes to the National Park that he was from . While there she meets a shifter who helps her.
Bastian , is the leader of the pack security. He and his team happen to able to help Casey and take her back to their camp with them .
This pack place has many secrets , especially the kind of creepy, misogynistic, alpha.
Casey and Bastian must give their fledgling bond a chance, or be torn apart .

This book was a very easy read, full of action and the wonderful lore of shifters. There are no cliff hangers, and I wouldn't mind reading more from this Author !!

A sweet tale for Casey and Bastien

This is runaway mate book one and it’s a good story of romance and pack politics. Casey lost her father and was in the woods spreading ashes when a pack leader Bastien and his men had to come to her rescue from some supernaturals who were attacking Casey. Both of them felt the pull but did not associate it with being mates. Bastien asked permission from his Alpha to allow Casey to recover in their territory. The evil Alpha said yes, but he has less than honest intentions. Their journey begins there . . . . Read On!

Immensely Enjoyed.
Relatable characters. Drama and constant action and emotions. Getting Casey and Bastien’s POV helps when reading. Love that Bastien pulls through in the end (when you read you will understand what I mean). Happy ending is a plus.

I don’t think the title ‘Alpha King’s Secret Baby’ is right as Bastien isn’t a King so I only suggest a better title. However - This title on this page, ‘Rejected by My Alpha Protector’ is more appropriate.

All in all a great enchanting read.
