I really liked it. Being a fan of friends and lovers, this one didn't disappoint. Quentin(the grump)and Logan(the sunshine) are both great characters. I liked their character development so much. I don't read sports romance that much and wanted to get into it more and had a good experience with this one. It was really cute, hockey romances are fun! 💗

I was looking forward to reading this book and all the tropes just made me so excited but for some reason, I just couldn't find myself enjoying this book and as immersed as I usually would be in a hockey romance book. Don't get me wrong I loved the characters especially the friendship between Logan and Jordan. I also loved Quentin at times.

For me personally, I just thought the dialogue was a little cringey but honestly, what romance books don't have cringey dialogue sometimes? But I think that's what threw me off. At the beginning of the book, I was really loving getting to know the MMC and the FMC and for some reason, I felt like they were better off as friends. Once they started their relationship it just felt a little off for me.

I am grateful to have received an ARC in exchange for an honest opinion. All opinions are my own!

I absolutely loved this book! Logan and Quentin's story is a new favorite of mine. Friends to lovers - fake dating was delicious. Logan and her personality just did it for me. Her humor had me giggling and catching looks from those around me. I am new to Jaqueline Snowe books and this was such a great introduction to her writing!

i found it a bit boring, personally i'm not a huge fan of the friends-with-benefits. they didn't have much tension or chemistry before they got together either. perfect for a quick or filer read though.

I do love a good hockey romance and Under The Ice didn’t disappoint. The plot was engaging, the main characters growth was a joy to read as they faced their past and personal struggles. I loved both Logan and Quentin equally and together they are even more perfect. There was something special about this story that I loved especially how genuine all the characters were with their unique traits. I thoroughly enjoyed this one and hope we get to see more of the other characters in this story with their own books. Highly recommend this one! I received a complementary copy from Chasing Books PR.

Central State Hockey Book 2

I had planned a cracking opener to this review and as always I made the mistake of not writing it down and have subsequently forgotten it... But damn! I was absolutely captivated by Quentin and Logan and their personalities that it was difficult to put down, I curse having to adult and go to work.

This story follows Logan starting her independent life living with her best friend and 2 of the hockey team, after recovering from a broken heart, Logan is trying to put herself back together in enters Quentin and he just understands her, he is just as focused on trying to make it to the NHL and cannot have any distractions, however with there ever expanding chemistry both Logan and Quentin cannot ignore it any longer.

I am excited to explore this series and its other characters more, their relationships as well as other friendships, I absolutely fell head over heals for Jordan, it reminds me of myself in an other life, I cannot wait to see how it all pans out with her.

I would highly recommend that you start the Central State Hockey Series and fall in love all over again like it did. For fans of Hockey Romance, Forced Proximity, Fake Dating, and some Spicy Goodness.

ARC review!❤️ Are you a “here for the vibes” reader? Cause I am, and I loved this. Logan has a really great witty charm about her that I absolutely adored, and Quentin from the VERY beginning of the book was just so good to her, and it was so nice to see him grow so much from book 1 to book 2, and he’s just SO good. Also his dirty talk? Okkkk but also Logan’s? Okkk! I think if you haven’t read book 1 (which you totally should) you can still really enjoy this one but there’s a lot of back story about Quentin’s relationship with his mom, and his sister and his injury that I think really elevates reading this one. I love a good friends to lovers trope, (I think it’s so underrated) and throw in fake dating and I’m SO here for it. The spice scenes were so much better than I was expecting too🫣😂 lol

“We need more rules, I think, to keep your heart safe.” “Mine? What about yours?” “I don’t have one, Logan, but I’d give mine up to make sure yours stays safe” ?! I melted.

Also Jordan? Love her❤️ I love a good silly and protective bestie.

Overall I’d give it a 3.75⭐️ but rounding up to 4. Some parts felt a little juvenile, but this was such a fast feel good read with still a good amount of drama/spice. I loved it!

4⭐️ This book was absolutely adorable! A huge thank you to Chasing Books PR for the ARC—I’m so glad I got to read this early! Quentin, a hockey player chasing his NHL dreams, teams up with Logan, his guarded housemate, in a fake dating plan that helps them both. Their chemistry is instant and undeniable, making it impossible not to root for them. I loved how their relationship slowly shifted from fake to real, filled with sweet moments and just the right amount of drama. Quentin’s struggle between choosing love or his lifelong hockey dreams added depth, while Logan’s journey of learning to trust again was so relatable. It’s the perfect blend of sports romance, fake dating, and slow-burn goodness. Plus, who can resist a hockey player with a soft side?

i liked logan & quentin a lot! i think they (eventually) worked well together. they fit each other & were able to be there for the other when they needed it. i’m a sucker for a roommates to lovers situation and the way jaqueline wrote it was sooo good!

i honestly forgot quentin & audrey and their relationship so it was good to get audrey & theo cameos! the refresher was nice! i enjoyed getting quentin’s side of everything that went on with his family; he was able to start healing & i loved it <3

I was pleasantly surprised about this book and love a good sports romance. Under the Ice was my first book my Jaqueline Snowe, and I loved it. This story sucked me in within the first few chapters. I thought the character development for both Logan and Quentin was done really well. It was a perfect balance between plot and spice, and the story flowed well. I think the fake-dating trope is my favorite. One of the elements from the book I like was how protective and close the friend group was with each other. I would love to read more by Jaqueline, and hopefully we can get a book for Jordan and Preston.

Solid character arcs with a natural progression for the relationship, but the writing could’ve been better.

Logan and Quentin are a cute match with quite a few adorable moments They’re both ambitious and committed to their careers (library science and hockey, respectively), but they’re also well-rounded—or learning to be. They’re both very family-oriented and maintain a healthy social life with kind friends. Quentin is so captivated by Logan’s joy—he’s always attentive to her smiles and laughter. The way he is so in awe of her is really cute. Boy called her MAGNETIC!

The pacing of their relationship felt so right. This didn’t read like a typical friends-to-lovers story where they’ve been friends for years and are just know acting of their feelings. They meet within the first chapter, and it’s a very simple introduction. It’s not a meet-cute, but the ordinariness makes it perfect because there’s no immediate indication that these two will start dating. The fake dating starts quickly, but they’re very clearly just friends because they actually act like it. There’s no tension or flirtatious banter—lines remain uncrossed. At most, it’s a respectable, mutual attraction. This is the prefect setup for the trajectory of their relationship. They gradually build a loving, romantic connection. They also don’t jump into an “I love you.” They both go through an “I think I love them” stage first and don’t rush into anything. Their feelings feel very genuine, so their relationship felt believable.

In terms of relationships with the other characters, I really loved that Quentin acknowledged that he grew up with a different mom than his sister did. That showed some impressive levels of maturity on his part. I appreciated how the author demonstrated the complexity of his relationship with his mom. Children with difficult or abusive parents are often told “but that’s your mom” or “but that’s your dad!” SO WHAT?! That’s not a free pass to be a shitty person. Quentin loved the woman who raised him, but she’s a very different person now. The back and forth is torturous, but he does what he needs to in order to start healing, and I found it to be very inspiring. I liked how the author approached this topic as it was very considerate in portraying how some familial relationships can turn out differently from others.

I also really liked how Logan recognizes how hard her heartbreak was on her friend, Jordan, because Jordan was the one picking up the pieces and helping Logan heal. If she rushes into something new, she could be putting both of them through that all over again, and neither friend deserves that. They share a close relationship, so Jordan feels the pain that her bestie experiences. It shows a lot of maturity for Logan to acknowledge this and take it into serious consideration as she explores something with Quentin.

That said, there were things that irritated me. Every time someone talks about Jordan being wild and Quentin bringing out Logan’s wild side, I cringe. There’s literally nothing insane about what any one of them did throughout this whole book.

Exhibit A: “I then made the worst choice of all time. Foolishly, like a capital D dork, I finger gunned him. Both hands, two finger guns. We both stared at my hands as all my dignity left through the tips of my pointer fingers. ‘Whoa, I should put these bad boys away’” (48).

Omg she’s so silly 😜

Exhibit B: “‘It’s a mess. I like to call post-braid days, hat days. That way it hides all the looseys that broke free.’ Looseys. This girl. ‘You are…’ I trailed off, finding myself smiling yet again. ‘A handful? I know’” (86).

Watch out y’all!! She styles her hair 😧 Careful, Quentin! You’ve got quite the girl on your hands!! She’s just so quirky and wild 🤪🤪

Then there were things that actually pissed me off.

Logan constantly manages to bring up Gage, even in her flirty conversations with Quentin 😒 I’m glad we got to better understand her past and see her recognize all the ways that Quentin is different and actually trustworthy. But for someone who’s trying to heal and move on, she overwhelming mentions her ex, especially TO HER NEW MAN. Quentin also took wayyyyy too long to call her out on it, but his last straw was mine too.

Offhandedly, I did really like the final conversation between Logan and Gage. She was so calm and mature. It really felt like closure.

Quentin equally pissed me off whenever he tried to make it seem like he’s this bad person while only ever proving to be a cutie. I understand that he thinks he’s a bad guy because of his past, but even those recollections were so lame and didn’t really provide any context to his character. There are a lot unanswered questions there that might have been discussed in book one, but I didn’t read that, so I’m confused. In general, he was so whiny. He kept pushing people away, not talking anything out, and then bitching because he felt so lonely. I’m glad Logan kept calling him out on this and the whole bad guy thing. She said figure your shit out because I ain’t gonna be waiting around forever! To that, I say, YOU GO GIRL 👑

Quentin’s falling out with Audrey is so confusing. They seem to have a close, healthy relationship now, and I enjoyed reading about their little family. However, we kept hearing about how they’ve come so far in rebuilding their relationship, but I couldn’t fully care about it when I have no point of reference for their falling out. Their whole family story felt quite underdeveloped. I suspect book one (Audrey’s book) provides more details, including an explanation of how Theo caused Quentin’s injury. Again, I didn’t read it, so I’m lost.

In terms of the writing, this could’ve used another round of editing. There were a handful of plot holes. Early on, Logan mentioned wanting to invite Quentin and Em over for family dinner, and then it’s never mentioned again on the page. Then, when they’re at the hospital, he meets her parents and basically says he and Em did join them for dinner—but then everyone acts like it’s their first time meeting! Also, why did Rebecca say Logan “didn’t even go here?!” Yes, she lived off campus for the first two years, but she was still a student… What was the intended effect of making Rebecca say that?

And then some minor confusing moments: 1. The seating arrangements at the dinner with his mom and her partner made no sense, and 2. When they hook up in her room, where is the mirror, and when did her shorts come off?!

There was so much repetition with their movements. The same characters were running a hand over their jaw, scrubbing a hand over their face, and running their fingers through their hair. Also, the author kept repeating bits of information that we’d already established.

In general, the writing style was very literal and fell a bit flat.

Overall, this was a strong story with well-developed characters who build a genuine romantic relationship. However, the writing itself could have been stronger. This had plenty of cute moments, so it was still an enjoyable quick read.

Thank you very much to Jaqueline Snowe and Chasing Books PR for the ARC of this book. This is my honest review. All opinions are my own.

..
📚Logan, recently heartbroken by her long time boyfriend, she moves into a house off campus with her two best friends and a random hockey guy, Quentin Hawthorne. She once was a sweet, corky and carefree but her break up has left her hollow. She slowly starts healing and manages to snag a job tutoring the hockey team due to her new friend Quentin. They form a sweet friendship but it quickly turns to more with an end date attached.
..
🏒 Quentin, hockey hotshot for Central State (brother to Audrey) who experienced a bad injury due to his sisters now fiancé. But he’s finally back on the ice with only the NHL on his mind. He moves off campus to save money after detaching himself from his mom. He has a rocky relationship with her and an unhealthy view of himself, believing he’s unloveable. But he quickly connects with his new housemate Logan and begins questioning what his future might actually look like.
..
Whatever J Snowe writes I’m going to read it. I adore her sports romance books and this one was just too adorable. I loved getting Q’s story after meeting him in Through the Ice. His own mental health and personal growth is so wholesome. I just want to squeeze him every time he thinks he’s unloveable. Logan was precious. I adored her personality, especially her playlists. Takes me back to my burning CD days.💿 10/10 recommend and you’re in luck because it’s FINALLY out now!!

ARC REVIEW:

This book follows Quentin and Logan, two roommates who decide to help each other by fake dating. Logan needs to get rid of her ex, who won’t leave her alone despite multiple rejections, while Quentin needs a date for a family dinner with her mom. As they spend more time together, they feel an irresistible pull toward each other, making it harder to ignore their growing feelings. However, both are hesitant to act on it—one still struggling with heartbreak, while the other believes he's a mess who doesn’t deserve love.

I absolutely loved the chemistry between them! Their character development was top-notch, and that’s what I adored the most—how they helped each other heal and become better versions of themselves. They were so adorable (even if Quentin hates being called that). The way Quentin took care of Logan and ensured she was comfortable every single time completely melted my heart. My poor baby thought he was a bad person when, in reality, he was anything but that. I also admired Logan for being so brave and standing up for herself when needed.

The side characters were amazing—OMG, Audrey, Theo, Jordan, Preston, Liam, and everyone else were just incredible! I’m definitely going to read all of their books, both the ones already available and any that come out in the future. Everyone needs a friend like Jordan in their life and a supportive group of people around them. It was so heartwarming to see their relationships.

The spice did feel a bit weird or cringy at times, but it still made me laugh, so I guess that counts! If you’re looking for a ridiculously cute and spicy sports romance with a fantastic found-family trope, you should definitely read this book!

Logan (our FMC) is sunshine, a book lover, and highly logical and emotionally mature. She also has a scoundrel of an ex who cheated on her with a friend. (You can’t win them all..) Quentin is this moody self-deprecating hockey player who just doesn’t want a relationship. However he needs a date to his narcissistic mother’s dinners and Logan needs help deterring her obsessed ex. So begins a fake dating arrangement between roommates. A fake dating trope is always fun but it can be so predictable. I found that this book didn’t provide enough of the “fun.” This book was fine and had such excellent communication and dialogue between the couple that I highlighted quite a bit. However, the emotional impact was lacking. I wasn’t invested as much in their love story and found that I was bitter that Logan was carrying the weight of the relationship. Yes, Quentin has issues but I wanted a lot more grovel after his bad behavior. I enjoyed quite a bit of it but felt that there were areas that needed more work and depth.

This is 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.

I was provided this book from chasingPR as an ARC and the above were my honest thoughts.

I received an ARC copy of this book to read and review before its official release day.

This romance novel has everything you’d want and expect, but what I didn’t expect was to relate to and love these characters so much! And who doesn’t love the fake dating trope?!

Logan is the sweetest FMC I’ve read about in a long time. Her confidence and overall growth as a character throughout the book is inspiring. Her love of books (and amazing collection of bookish t-shirts) is so relatable. I absolutely loved watching her fall in love with Quentin, finding this incredible love that she wholeheartedly deserves.

Quentin: “We need more rules, I think, to keep your heart safe.”
Logan: “Mine? What about yours?”
Quentin: “I don’t have one, Logan, but I’d give mine up to make sure yours stays safe.”

Quentin “There’s nothing I wouldn’t do for you” Hawthorne - I love his jealous, swoon-worthy character. His banter with Logan had me kicking my feet. This man would move mountains for the people he loves. His character growth and acceptance of his flaws helped to round out the ending of the book.

3+🌶🌶🌶

When i like a book this much, i tend not to have anything to say.

I went from tears to fun. It was a roller-coaster. A very good one.
I liked the first book. A 5 stars again. This was even better.

There was so much in this book i wouldn't know what to put in this review except READ. THIS. BOOK.

Q is the flawless book boyfriend with a great redemption plot, Logan is the sweet sunshine with a broken heart, fake dating as a housemates, mutual pining, a bit of smut(from 1 to 3+🌶), words of affirmation, funny friends, found family and groveling... it has everything!

i am begging you. I learned a lot from Logan and Quentin about love, about myself, about mental health, about family, about effort and pain...

As always, a comment of the spice: FILTHY.
Quentin is a force of nature, and Logan finally finds the guy she deserves and ask what she likes. And she loves it (oh yeah, she does, and so do we)

Suggested yes.

Thanks chasingbooksPR and the author for the arc, this is my honest opinion <3

Oh Quentin… there’s something just so satisfying about reading a book where the MMC feels like he can’t have it all in life and must obsess over one aspect to be “happy”, who then finds a FMC who completely turns him on his axis and rocks his world as he knows it.

Logan (FMC) moves in with her best friends and another roommate, hockey player Quentin. Quentin has had a series of unfortunate events that have temporarily derailed his goal of making it to the NHL and he believes that he can have zero other aspects of his life other than hockey until he makes that dream a reality. Logan, fresh off a badly ended relationship herself, isn’t really looking for a relationship and her and Quentin strike up a roommate/ friend situation as they both just “get” one another. When her ex won’t get the hint that things are over, they strike up a fake relationship that could be exactly what they both need in their lives.

Their chemistry, friendship, loyalty and growth throughout the story is entertaining and keeps you rooting for them both, especially with the added drama and shenanigans of the background characters.

Under the ice is the second book in the Central State Hockey series. Once I started I couldn’t put it down I enjoyed reading this book. I loved seeing Quentin development in the first book I had mixed feelings about him but after reading his book I like Quentin now. Logan I loved her and her personality I thought she was funny in the book.
I felt bad for both characters in the book Quentin with him dealing with his toxic mother and Logan trying to get over her ex who cheated on her and who won’t leave her alone. In the story both Quentin and Logan decided to make a deal to fake date to help each other out but as their chemistry builds it’s hard for them to fake their feelings.

This was such a cute and fun friends to lovers, fake dating romance! It is part of a series but you can definitely read at as stand alone (that’s what I did)

We get the cutest FMC Logan, she was honestly a ball of sunshine! There were definitely some aspects of her story that I could relate to. Our MMC Quentin isn’t looking for a relationship and feels like he needs to focus on hockey. I like how they worked through some stuff to realise they actually are enough for themselves which then meant they were enough for each other, they just needed to get out of their heads.

Sometimes I felt the characters were written a bit older than what they were but other than that really no complaints! Super quick and easy read!

Under the Ice is the second book in the Central State Hockey series, but it can be read as a standalone.

Logan was getting over her ex, who had cheated on her. And she ended up living with Quentin. The two of them became friends and there was definitely this instant attraction between them. But Quentin wasn’t a relationship guy, and he made sure Logan knew that.

This was super cute, but I found some parts (the dialogue) a little cringey. And with the way Quentin was, I wanted this to be a little more emotional. It felt like some parts were glossed over and quickly resolved.

The friendship between them was great though. And I liked that both charters, especially Quentin, grew and were able to let go of certain things from their past (or at least work on letting go).

I still enjoyed this and look forward to more from this author.

Quentin Hawthorne - known player, hot hockey player and behind closed doors - total sap. Logan Hart - expert Spotify playlist created, book worm, future librarian - and the best thing to ever happen to Quentin Hawthorne.

This book was so cute from start to finish!
The banter? Delicious.
The spice? So nice.
The gushy feelings where he DEF falls first?! Amazing.

Big dreams involve big scary goals. This book made me root for Log & Q from page 1 😍

I thoroughly enjoyed this! Watching both characters battle their demons and overcome so many obstacles was a pleasure to witness. The depth of these characters never faltered. The raw unfiltered emotion that these two packed held you from the beginning to the end. Q is such a damaged boy in need of so much love and Logan delivers! Despite her current state of heartbreak seeing her get the love she deserves is priceless! Sometimes family is a found family and that's ok. Surround yourself with the people who make you happy.

I love a fake dating hockey trope so I was very excited to read Under the Ice.

I loved the insta-affection between the MCs and the non-judgmental way Quentin treated Logan. I loved that Logan realised what she wanted in her future relationships and used her trauma to grow. “My parents always said heartbreak was a part of life and that it showed you what you really wanted out of a partner”.

I realised midway through that this was actually book 2 in the series so it made sense why I was a little confused about some of the assumed knowledge of Quentin’s back story and the whole Theo/broken leg situation and the Audrey/mum issues.

It was very similar to other books with similar tropes, the classic fake-dating>falls in love>breaks up because of “reasons”>realises they made a mistake and can’t live without each other>end game! So if you love an easy read with similar vibes and spice thrown in then this is for you!

I love that Logan had a playlist for every situation

This book was not a hit for me. I didn’t gel with the characters and I found the names very confusing. I may have liked it more if I had read the first book in the series.

The one thing I have discovered is I prefer my characters to be older. So if you like fake dating college romance then this book is for you.

tysm to jacqueline snowe & chasing books pr for this arc

I knew I was gonna like this book before I read it just because I love everything Jacqueline Snowe I’ve ever read & because it has a ton of my favorite tropes in it (fake dating, forced proximity, etc) but I also loved the redemption arc that Quentin got and how much he grew from who he was in book 1 of this series to the end of this book. It’s a college hockey fake dating romance so most of it is lighthearted but there’s enough serious parts that there was actually a plot.

tropes:
hockey player
college students
fake dating
roommates
forced proximity

Loved this book! I’m a sucker for a good hockey romance and that was just it. The different layers of the relationship were great and I really got to know the main characters. Can’t wait to read more!

Received this one as an ARC and I really enjoyed it. The characters grew and developed throughout the story and their relationships were interesting. Had just a touch of spice but never over done.
